- Productive day today, headrails are in and looking great but it was a bigger job than I thought in the first place, matts are going down super light and how to put them in 👌👌
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Coming along nicely. You mention of cold hands made me thing about all those bolts you're going to have to drill into the concrete to hold the matresses in place. What out for White Finger syndrome or Reynaud. There's a limit on hand exposure to vibration. Using a typical hammer drill in concrete it only takes about 30 minutes of use per day to cause damage to the nerves/blood vessels of the hand.
I've seen many old time site tradesmen with poor circulation/numb hands is later life due to indiscriminate use of power tools.
Hopefully not being a H&S nurd but that's A LOT of anchors to be drilled 😮!!

Get an Aloe vera plant so you can cut a leaf off and put on yr back scratch, very soothing, add some tea tree oil as an antiseptic, might sting a bit..❤❤

They are plotting it already aren’t they, they know the fences are down and I’m saving the other half of the farm for grass growing so they are just helping themselves to the silage pit 😂😂
Hi Charlotte, now I understand why you went for single the mattresses. It will be easy to replace them in the future. Yes, I was one who fast forward to the end, cause you never know what you have is store for us. It looked like a laborious task, but with teamwork you got it done.
