There's hope always.Remember one thing, while there's life there's hope.Every cloud has a silver lining. Please view some videos of Israeli farms and agricultural activities in a hopeless desert turned the dry arid land into a fertile ground.so your farm will make more successful stories in future, don't loose hope. Mixed farming yields wonderful results.

It's really shows you take pride in your work, and in the things you've managed to acquire to better your farm. That's rare these days, and a shining example to your girls. I hope they follow your example, as we need more women in agriculture, in various roles - farmer, vet, and every other thing that can help to make agriculture more sustainable, safer, and successful.

Great advice Adrian, all of it. My father hadn't much but whatever he had he worked damned hard for it, no easy breaks. His motto was "Let your eye be your judge, and your pocket your guide". Avoid debt like the plague and only borrow if you're buying land or for something that's going to make you money or at the very least is going to make your life easier. Sadly he passed away in 1990 at only 67 with prostate cancer. He left lots of good memories. I have now run the beef and sheep farm for 30+ years, got rid of 2 parasitic siblings out of the equation, expanded the farm a few times when land became available. But I will leave you with one word of advice, mind your health. A one man operation can be devastated if you take sick, particularly when the family is small. This almost happened to me last year, but thank God for the HSE and the wee country we live in, they fixed me up like new. I had 3 heart attacks in one day April 1st 2020, luckily I was in hospital when it happened. I was sowing fertiliser the evening before and felt bad and knew something wasn't right. Got into A and E 8pm, at 3am in coronary care I was dead for almost 8 minutes, 7am same again, 12 noon in helicopter heading for Galway, 40 minutes run from Letterkenny. 4 1/2 hours wide awake in theatre while they put in a stack of heart stents. 7pm another heart attack. They resuscitated me and 5 days later got home. Took a month before I got going right again. Avoid stress, keep people out of your life that stress you out, and take time to smell the countryside around you and make a bit of time for the young ones. It can all be taken away in a snap.

Great video and insight ! You should be seriously proud my man. I worked on a dairy farm as a kid with my uncle. Summer/October holidays and any other chance I got. Always always wanted to work on a farm my uncle always talked me out of it. 4 years as a car mechanic apprentice. 8 years operating heavy plant (which I love) and now 2 years into a complete career change (not loving it) I have a wife and kids and my job now allows me bundles of time at home which I love. God my heart still lies with farming/agriculture though. Your videos help me keep in touch and feel nostalgic and happiness watching. Thankyou

I don’t know if your wife works but most small to medium farms that I know of can only enjoy some comforts such as a nice house, car or holidays because of the wife’s income.

Started out with very little machinery and bad housing but over the last 30 years that has changed through hard work and the odd tear! I have been told that You’ll never last! that farms are getting bigger, you need to do this and that! And truth be told av seen farms going from 50 cattle to 500 cattle in this area and most are not here now. Some of them haven’t even time to eat a ice cream! I have time with my family and the farm. Love working with my cattle, I know every move they make and they know every move I make. Like your self I hope that doesn’t change, because once it’s gone it’s gone for good!

Great video Adrian, not a farmer but big fan of yours and my cousin farms similar to you. I've liked yours and will like and follow a less followed farmer too. I love your obvious love for your dad and what he's done. I've had direct experience of farm tragedy through my job, but I like your farm safety culture! Stay safe and look after that lovely growing wee family of yours please!

Hi Adrian great video I went down expansion route but went renting land first before I went pouring concrete and stainless steel unfortunately rent started going through the roof before I could get cow numbers up had a few hairy years trying to stedy the ship with dry cattle before I had too call it quits and give up land rental I felt a complete failure having to cut down but my wonderful wife said to me you had too give it a go to find out when I finally realised this i copped on and i milked my 60 cows payed off my big super levy bill from 2015 and other stuff now I enjoy my farming and I am making a resnable living out of it and as the older I get I now realize it s great too be involved in a career which motivates me which I have control over and I'm not surfing burnout as one old timer said to me when I was young buck cows are a vocation not a career choice best of luck to you and your family

Literally the best video you’ve made yet Adrian in my humble opinion, your always better off doing less better than a lot badly and for sure there’s much more pleasure to be had doing things properly than spreading yourself to thinly, thanks for all your hard work on the vids

"Creagh farm".. a young lad from Wexford. Very small basic dairy farming family, 3 at a time in parlour. No greedy factory farming there. He's off to college at min I think. I enjoy his content. Good luck to him.

Another great video , very good and a lot of sense spoken , I think a lot expect it handed to them , hard work is the answer . I had to smile when you said about looking after the machinery , when I was working on the farm , I always got grief for washing my tractor etc inside and out , not mine I just worked there , but I always said like you , you can always tell if someone has looked after something , when my tractor was swopped the gent that bought in never got out of the reps car and said he'd have it , so yes look after your equipment and it will look after you . 👍

here in the Netherlands it is very difficult to be able to farm there is little to earn and you have to have at least 130 cows to get a bit of nice income together more and more rules are added I am still a young person I would like to be a farmer but most likely I won't succeed just like the other young Dutch farmers

What an excellent video and a lovely thing to do for the young youtubers. I have 5 daughters and my 11 year old Daisy makes and edits these videos. She loves farming and loves making videos for everyone to see. She gets very excited if she gets a new subscriber or if her videos get some likes and comments. Thank you. Keep up the good work. Carl

Well done on your farm and your hard work for the last 20 odd years. Considering the policies that will be implemented in the next 5 years: If we cut the national herd by 10% across all farmers, your 5 cows are a lot more important to you than the 50 cows in a 500 cow farm. (all things being equal). This reduction in income will not be covered by any "extra" subsidies, because what the EU and the national government have done is reduce and re brand the farm subsidies to make it look as if farmers are being compensated with extra subsidies.
If we have to reduce production to save the environment then that reduction needs to be replaced by (a) increase the litre price, or (b) the gross income loss should be covered by the EU/Gov. If trees shrubs etc. have to be planted then the subsidies kick in. Remember, we as farmers will - like everyone else- have to pay all the extra carbon taxes as well. Why should agriculture get penalized over and above any other sector. Airlines will add any extra cost onto the ticket. Haulage companies will increase their charges etc. etc.
Apologies for the rant -better out than in as they say-. But it was not too long ago that we were all encouraged to increase increase increase.
