Concerning conception rates one consideration is "silent heats" ..cattle cycle but we might miss signs such as clear discharges and then the bleed off sign. Ironically, being behind the cows constantly in my comfort stall barn of 45 milkers, you can watch more closely as they as they are in your face whether it be hoeing shit or during milking and chore time. When they drool clear fluid it's a great sign. Your free stall set up is great, no doubt.

Walking behind and amongst the cattle routinely when working in free stall operation as herdsman I spent all time with cattle naturally observing for signs of heat as the comfort stall experience proved. Consider that I focused on cattle only.

Well it eventually put you out of work we have rules here no matter what 1 bring a calf to the pen each year 2 all cows calve on there own 3 when we call they come 4 good feet and legs for traveling. We have few problems with conception rates because the best stay here and if they don't want to be here we sure don't want them. We have easy keepers and they are out year round with zero issues I know it's different with dairy but some of it is a bit ridiculous. I think cattle should be breathing fresh air year round but that's my opinion
Yeah, he's good!!! And he has so many wonderful suggestions about how to do things easier and more efficiently. Now, I'm not mentioning that he is also a Cavan-man in the same sentence as cost effective, mind you, but that's a reality too. My family has been out of the dairy bussiness for 25 years now and i can still remember many of our cows ,numbers there looks and traits i still miss it

I started doing a pre breeding scan a few years ago to identify cows that were either dirty, not cycling or cystic, I also done blood test on random 10 cows and pool the sample at the start of breeding to identify the mineral status of herd at that point in time as status will fluctuate over the course of the year, blood for disease is recommended if now vaccinating much, a good pre calving mineral is the foundation to a good breeding season usually better to get it formulated to suite your herd rather than buying a one size fits all off the shelf, I found BLF nutrition in Carlow invaluable and so helpful a family run company formulating minerals

How’re things Adrian. We had the exact same issue Struggling for yeas to get to the bottom of the issue. 3 years ago was the tipping point had just over 50 cows empty for 3 conservative years . I changed a few things but minerals were my biggest change I put every animal on a mineral program just like my vacation one and get mineral annualises done on both my silage and cows to get a per calving mineral blended. Also during the milking session in have all my nuts blended to a mineral spec just for my issues . Better breathing was also done picking higher fertility bulls for the cows . 3 years on my last scan returned 16 empty animals I’m now down to 8 percent back from the mid 30’s to low 40’s. In fertility is a huge issue on farms and from what I feel farmers are afraid to mention it as it might be a bad reflection on there management skills but instead it’s issues out for there control that are just hard to grasp. If you haven't already I would check copper and selenium levels in forage and blood test, might help fertility and a large whisky for your cold!

6 out of 50 isn't a major problem considering no bull very hard to spot cows bulling once they get low in numbers don't like bulls myself and they're s nuisance most of the year especially with children about maybe more scanning during the breeding season and I use heat seekers on the cows and heifers and find them good great video as always and in farming there's always something

Hi Adrian what we normal do for drawing silage bales from farm to farm is use are tipping trailer it’s handyer than a bale trailer to move around and it would save u having to buy a bale trailer when u have the tipping trailer there already
Wow your cows are tiny. I have never seen cows so little. So adorable. Seems they are even smaller than our Jersey cows here in the states.

Good video, first time here, I notice others had same problem this year. I believe 2021 weather has to do with most issues with animals reproductive.
Hi just an idea from what I've seen but you could use the robotic collars since they pick up a cow in heat. As well would you ever buy a small wheel loader from Kramer JCB Kubota etc as it is a insanely useful machine on the farm and saves a savage amount of work

You are very right about have good handling facility's that one man can run, a lot of men overlook those things, thinking sure it's only a crush but the little details like that and having well trained animals that make the difference especially when it comes to safety.
