Scott Glenn Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ - Zábava
Scott Glenn is a man's man. Undeniable talent and charisma! So underrated.
He's not, your opinion is.. the roles he gets speak loudly how he is regarded by the industry. The public are fickle.
Scott Glenn is 81 years young. An amazing character actor with an extraordinary career.
He looks 81, but does not act 81. Still very sharp.
No hes 75
Maze to bakersfield
Where do you live now and yes your looking good for your age
@@lgregory1758 He's 82 now. What are you talking about?
His voice is unmistakable. Great actor and these are wonderful stories - I would love to hear more.
He's up there with Ron Perlman and Clancy Brown.
His voice sounds so much like Nicholas Cage🤣
How could they have not asked him about HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER??????
or Training Day
They always leave her best ones out, aye!
And no backdraft.
Red October is one of his best! Clancy wrote the character with an Italian background, not resembling Glenn at all, but Glenn made it his own and I can't think of anyone better. He was perfect.
Maybe they did and he doesn't have any stories about it.
He's very humble for such a great actor. Wow
Yeah because he's an actor not a star.
Marc Maron recently asked Glenn why he converted to Judaism, the religion of his wife, Carol. Initially, the rabbi Glenn approached was reluctant in allowing it. He went on to explain to Marc that, if there was no such thing as anti-Semitism, they wouldn't be having this conversation. But, when the rabbi asked Glenn why he wanted to convert, he explained that they enjoyed traveling around the world. He then said, "if a gun was ever pointed at my wife for being Jewish, I wanted the gun pointed towards me as well." Listening to his explanation was worthy of an Oscar all by itself, reducing me to tears given both the nobility and sadness reflected in his words. Needless to say, the rabbi changed his mind.
I need to watch that. Thank you for sharing. ☮️
Darnit, now I just love him all the more. Cared greatly for his wife and embraced my people! hehe
He was so handsome in Silence of the Lambs and trashy in Urban Cowboy. Thatś a true character actor.
He had this presence in Silence of the Lambs. He was kind of low key stunning
Very observent there Opie.
Girl, yes! Gorgeous
He plays Wes so well tho I love it
*THANK YOU! Scott Glenn is criminally underrated. One of the best actors, not of our time, but ever. A true actor’s actor. Top 5 ever for me.*
I can admit this 1000%. literarely. criminally underrated.
Scott Glenn is a legend. Makes me think of all the movies I used to watch with my Dad as a little kid - and he was in a lot of them. I probably watched Silverado 10 times on HBO back in the day when I'd go stay with my Dad on the weekends. Scott Glenn always stood out in everything he was in. He just has a commanding presence.
He's a certified industry badass
Guy was unreal in The Leftovers
one of the greatest shows of all time
Everyone in it is giving career best performances
@Sean O’ Deli it’s absolutely amazing and underrated. Many critics called it the best show of 2017 but sadly audiences weren’t as into it.
@Sean O’ Deli the leftovers is a great show based on terrible ideas. If I told you the plot synopsis you would think it was another stupid apocalypse show (which it is at times) but it transcends that and ends up being a profound and hilarious show about the search for meaning in the face of tragedy
@Sean O’ Deli Its incredible. Trust me just watch it asap
I'm not even halfway through. I'm just amazed at his remembrances, and wonderful ability to communicate them. He's such a cool person.
Dude they should do more of these character actors! Way more interesting to me
He is at times the leading man.
Yes!
Same
That dudes biceps, as Wes in Urban Cowboy, are epic. Very jealous
Dude was crazy ripped
I've loved Scott in everything, but he deserves high accolades for his role as Wes in "Urban Cowboy".
This guy is the the real deal. Love him in everything he's in.
One of those few actors with a stillness and presence, that hold the audience's attention in any film...
Scott Glenn, Sam Elliott and Clint Eastwood should do a new western together
YES!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS... AND SAM SHEPARD AS WELL
82, 76 and Clint is frickin' 90! The oldest guys in the west or what? Sam Shepard has been dead for three years, so that get would be ...interesting.
@@EscanV Shepard died in 2017...
@@EscanV Sadly, Shepard has died.
I've always thought he needed more recognition
Scott Glenn is the man, on screen and off, that most of us wish we could be.
Great to hear about his time on The Leftovers. He nailed that role so hard
Charlie what’s up
He's a great actor and seems like such a cool man.
When he is on screen you can’t see anything else and he makes it look so easy.
First movie I saw him in was Silverado, loved him in Training Day.
Silverado is still probably one of my top 3 westerns. The banter btwn Glenn, Costner, Klein make that movie really top shelf, well written.
1985 was a good year.
Silverado
Pale Rider
Both 👍👍.
This was good. I had forgotten how many roles Scott had played.....because he played them so well, I forgot it was him.
Would have loved to have heard him talk about Training Day and Hunt For Red October.
Yes, Training Day.
...and _Backdraft_
Backdraft!?!?!...
@@nathanhawkins4525 not your cup of tea? 🤷🏿♀️
Breathe dog.. Breathe....
Nothing left to say....Glenn is a legend and a hardcore man. Respect. He can stand with any director and any other so called leading man. Anywhere. Anytime.
He's like an American version of Christopher Lee
Ha ha nice call 😁🤙🍺
There really should be a movie where Scott Glenn plays Guy Pearce's dad
Oooooh Yaaasssss!!
He could have played his father in LA Confidential
No Hunt For Red October? That one I’d possibly my favorite Scott Glenn role.
One of the great unsung, larger than life, guys to ever walk the big screen...
The Right Stuff: One of my top 10 movies.
Silverado: One of my top 10 favorite westerns.
The Leftovers: Possibly the greatest tv show of all time.
Thank you Scott Glenn for being a part of those.
Backdraft and Vertical Limit are 2 of my favorite movies, and Scott's awesome in both of them.
That's one of the best horse stories I've ever heard. Ajax, what a bro.
The way he described the relationship between Crawford and Clarice in Silence of the Lambs is exactly how I felt when I watched the movie. The two moments where he touches Clarice were so powerful because they were both signs of respect towards her. The gender discrimination was prevalent in the film, and Crawford saw that, but he never stooped down to that level. Instead, he gave her a shot and wanted to see if she could step up to the challenge.
The moments where he touches her come towards the end of the film for good reason. In the first moment, he's basically comforting her not because she was emotionally weak and needed to be held, but because she was a trainee that just went through a traumatic experience. The second moment where he shakes her hand is where he accepts her as not just a female FBI agent, but an FBI agent period. Brilliantly done!
It’s one of my (any many others) favorite films, and didn’t realize he was the actor that played Crawford until watching this. Great hearing that story, and I appreciate your insight into it, too. This is a great interview.🙂
I just watched SOTL again yesterday on CZcams. It was free too. Love their relationship. 🙂
I love him as Jack Crawford. Rewatching SOTL and more.
He did't talk about Backdraft. I thought he was great in that movie.
Same. He's great in so many roles.
Crazy Whitefella Thinking is one of my favorite episodes of television ever.
One of my favorite Kurt Russell roles as well. He was on a role in the 80s and 90s.
Let me go, Bull.
@@Islanders83 You go, we go.
What an incredible actor! Anyone who can convincingly play a bottom of the barrel scumbag (Urban Cowboy), a larger than life hero (The Right Stuff), and a nerdy administrative type (Silence Of The Lambs) without letting any of the characters' vast differences bleed into each other is OK by me.
He did something bspecial when he changed his facial habits for each roll.
Excellent point!!
Great actor and good storytelling
This dude makes any movie he’s in 20% better
This Guy Is A Great American Actor Would Like To See More Of Him.
Part 2/2 ...
I love Scott Glenn. I’m 51…so I grew up watching this handsome fella! Thank you,Scott!
Such an interesting performer and so many fascinating stories. Scott elevates any scene he’s in, with a presence and gravitas that you can’t take your eyes off.
I grew up watching Scott glenn act in a lot of movies. He's easily one of my favorite actors of all time! 👌👌😄😃
Relax, Jonesy. You sold me.
Wow. A genuine legend right here.
The hard part about playing chicken is knowing when to flinch...
True badass..
"You may need this, sir!" Gives enemy sub captain his sidearm.
Silence of the lambs was such an amazing movie! Literally had me sucked in
I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chiani FEEFEFEUUHFEE
@@gbreeze99 we know the line
Babeminzgirlsszz.SpaCe
That was when America went hardcore. That film.
@@lizannewhitlow1085 what? They made way more hard-core movies before that
I just stumbled on this, and I am so glad. I could listen to his experiences for hours. He should write a book, if he hasn't already. Thanks GQ.
Exactly! I could just listen to his experiences all day!
I saw "The Challenge" in boot camp at Parris Island. Every Recruit and D.I. in the theater left jacked up. Great memory.
Man he’s such a legend. Love this kinda stuff.
His role on The Leftovers was amazing.
I’m a dressage rider for 40 + years and I loved your riding story.
I still love Urban Cowboy.
Had no idea he was in Apocalypse Now. Didn't even recognize him after watching the photo of his character.
"My name Jose Jimenez!"
Loved the scene in the Mercury capsule with the full bladder.
Cooper: As you were, Commander, sir!
Shepard: Argh, you prick!
LOVE Scott Glenn! He was in my all time favorite movie (he played Mercury astronaut Alan Sheppard in "The Right Stuff"). My teachers teacher was also in that movie! (Jeff Goldblum).
The Original “Man on Fire “ with Joe Pesci, Secretariat, Urban Cowboy, Silverado, My Heroes have always been Cowboys, The Right Stuff, Silence of the Lambs, Hunt for Red October, Wild Geese II. And a real World Force Recon Marine. It makes me Mad that he’s never won a Oscar.
That’s right! Scott was the villain in Urban Cowboy!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@fw1421 He was the villain too in _The River._
So glad he talked about Urban Cowboy. Wes Hightower was a phenomenal character.
Buffalo Soldiers (2001) with Scott Glenn, Joaquin Pheonix, Ed Harris, and Anna Paquin. Glenn's awesome in this totally underrated film.
I'm glad GQ involves underrated actors/actresses as well! There should be a slew of videos for people like Glenn. I vote David Strathairn next!
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scott Glenn has one of my favorite lines of all time: "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." I know Hamilton said it first, but his delivery was perfect.
That was actually Malcom X
@@azizurrahman9459 Alexander Hamilton said “Those who stand for nothing fall for anything”. There have been many iterations since including Malcolm X.
Lovely story about the horse😊
Yes that was cool
Silverado was one of my dad's favourite films and I remember watching it so many times that it became my fav too.
I loved all his low budget stuff...The Challenge, Wild Geese 2, Man on Fire, Extreme Justice, Slaughter of the Innocents, Night of the Running Man etc
A great actor, yes, but after watching this I realize he's an even more extraordinary person in real life.
Such a great actor and seems like a very likeable person. Would've liked to hear even more of his stories.
Captain Bart Mancuso of the USS Dallas is my personal favorite
glad the supermax prison he's apparently in let him do this
LOL i think its actually some kind of martial arts/dojo place.
I thought the Hand murdered Stick....
I love this. Great storytelling by a person of wisdom, skill and experience. Thank you, Scott Glenn
I can't believe that they actually let him ride a bull. And that they left that scene where he almost gets killed in the movie. Epic.
Legend. Absolute acting LEGEND.
The Leftovers is my favorite tv series ever, The Right Stuff us my favorite movie.
That's the first thing I saw him in, the Right Stuff
Always liked the ex-con character he played in urban cowboy great movie 🍿
What a fascinating, engaging and talented man. Excellent stuff.
Absolute Power, Backdraft, & The Silence of the Lambs are my favorite Scott Glenn roles. He's great!
The man has stories for days. This was great
I saw Scott Glenn in an episode of Monk. CZcams recommended me this video one hour later. Google is probably spying on me.
He looks fantastic for his age. His body is in amazing shape. A class act too.
How neat was it when Glenn says "Mr. Glenn, you are way out of line!"
Ed Harris -> John Glenn
Scott Glenn -> Al Shepard
Sam Shepard -> Chuck Yeager
Hey Scott, lots of fun hearing you reminisce. THE KEEP is a cool thriller.
This is the best GQ episode I've seen so far. I've pretty much have seen most of the actors they've interviewed. This man's stories are epic!
I was hoping he'd discuss The Leftovers and I was not disappointed. The single best acting experience of his life?? Ooh baby!
One of my favourite character actors, an enormous talent.
Great breakdown. Was hoping to hear him talk about training day, but with a career that long, there is only so many you can talk about.
And Hunt for Red October.
Awesome actor and story teller.
That Apocalypse Now story might be the coolest story I've ever heard
Been binging these for a couple days now and this man is the most engaging, best storyteller I've seen. If love to see a part 2 with some of the edited parts and expanded stories...
Class act. Yeah, Scott has been a fav of mine for a long time. Good to see a little of his perspective on his movie roles. Thanks
So underrated. He's in my Top 20 actors of all time. So many great supporting roles he's played, I can't wait to watch this list and him talking about the roles. Legend
Scott Glenn is a legend, couldn't you at least organize a lapel mic?
'Extreme Justice' along Lou Diamond Phillips he was awesomely menacing.
In Altman's masterpiece NASHVILLE (1975), Glenn provides welcome humanity and almost wordless gravitas as a recently-returned veteran of the Vietnam War. If you've missed it, you've missed one of his great and most understated performances.
The Hunt for the red october? Cmon...
I am a fan of Scott Glenn. One of the best underrated actors out there.
I wouldn’t have expected anything other than to sit here enthralled by his incredible stories. Amazing job!
I've always liked Scott, but after watching him reviewing his past films, he's one true and honest man. Tells it like it is. I appreciate that.
the original man on fire
Loved him as stick, never heard of him before Daredevil but I'm glad I discovered him this dude is the real deal what a badass
One of my top 5 male actors! Thank you GQ for sharing this
Fireman, Sub Captain, Vietnam Vet. This guy is a beast.
Give this man a lead role. Cast him in everything.
