  • ** WARNING **
Apparently some people don’t read the entire description before trying things, so I am adding this warning AT THE TOP for the benefit of the lazy and impulsive.
**CAREFULLY** read the hazards below before attempting this. Proceed with caution! If you break something, we’re all very sorry for your inconvenience, but the blame is not for someone else.
This is a 2004 GMC Envoy, but this should apply to many makes and models. Hopefully this helps someone, I spent way too long yesterday being brain-dead about this!
IMPORTANT: Most wrenches with open on one end, "box" on the other end are angled, not flat. USE ONE THAT HAS THIS ANGLE SO YOU CAN FACE IT AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD!
Be careful the wrench is not touching the windshield and if so, take steps to protect the windshield or damage to the windshield could occur. The wrench I used was angled up away from the windshield, ALSO, this particular vehicle has a plastic faring (as you see) which elevates the wrench off the glass some, so IN MY CASE, there was no risk unless I'd somehow hit the wrench itself. YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE DIFFERENT!
    Proceed AT YOUR OWN RISK!

It worked - THANKS! I had tried 3 different ways to get mine to release that were absolutely stuck and would not budge. This method worked in less than 30 seconds per side, although for my vehicle (Nissan Xterra), open-end wrenches were too think so I instead used a 1" wide chisel. I also instead used a smaller, lighter tack hammer that did the job very sufficiently. Thanks again, nolatone!

Thank you sir, worked on my rear wiper arm too! Putting the nut before hammering is a wise piece of advice. The surface where the lever force is applied was glass in my case, so make sure you wrap the tools with soft cloth before applying any pressure to avoid scratches on glass and/or paint.

Tried all over town to find a puller tool with no luck. Needed to replace the broken rear wiper arm on my daughter's 12 year old Acadia. Found this video, and it saved the day. My wrench was a little too thick to fit behind the arm, but I was able to drive it under the broken arm, which probably started the loosening process. Got all the way under the broken arm and finished with the process in the video. So appreciative of this kind of help.

Let me just say that, as a technical writer for almost 40 years, your presentation absolutely nailed it!!! My 2003 Ford Escape wiper arms felt as if they were welded in place. But with more than a few well-placed whacks from what we in the Navy called a BFH (big _______ hammer), those things popped right off. AND it allowed me to return the totally useless tool I purchased. Great job, Nolatone!!!

Was standing in the junkyard today, on Independence Day, and a woman comes up and asked me, do you know how to get a wiper arm off this car? 2002 Buick LeSabre, and after removing just the bolt, obviously jammed on tight. Use a crescent wrench to get under the plastic underneath, used a three-quarter inch open end for leverage, followed your lead and put the nut back on and commence to beating on it with a hammer. Popped loose. she was thankful, but I thought I’d pass along my thanks for teaching me something I didn’t know when I got up this morning. Many thanks!
