- U.S. nuclear-powered SUPERCARRIER steams FULL SPEED into the PACIFIC to conduct FLIGHT OPERATIONS!
This video includes HD footage of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) leaving port on a deployment to the Pacific; the footage also of course includes vision of the Roosevelt conducting both night and day flight deck operations.
(And how fast can a Nimitz-class carrier really travel? Officially: 30+ knots (56+ km/h; 35+ mph). Unofficially: closer to 38 knots.)

"Put her in Full Steam"
"Aye Sir!"
"Also, arrange the jets in a pretty pattern on the deck..."
and then, they are being under attack while most jets are blocking the runway
I love working on these boats here in San Diego at the Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado. when they're done and head out to sea, i feel a sense of pride because of the hard work i put in to them, i feel that a part of me goes out there with them. i recently worked on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72.
The best Navy & Airforce on Earth right there. Thank you all for being magnificent!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
אין כמו אימא בעולם !!!!!!!!
They will do more than 38 knots, the power is so strong it will twist the prop shafts into a pretzel. Those shafts are what limits top speed. Conventional carriers were able to hit 35 knots and the nukes are much more powerful.
You're high
Can you explain a bit more please? I'm studying to be a marine engineer and would appreciate any info about all this 💚💚
There is good reason why none of them can max out to the BIG E speed.
The other reason the escort can't maintain that speed. Example Spurance/Ticonderoga all ahead full 33 knots.
Of the naval vessels when I was in the Navy the Kawishiwi was the only one of 2 vessels I knew of that could match that 38 knot speed.
It was an oiler. The other as the Pegasus.
The hull can't take it and repairing cracks is expensive and time consuming.
The Ranger was 50 when retired and The Enterprise was retired also in 2017 after 50 years.
Besides that I hated being in the ship yard.
@@KAMZA. the US Navy offers programs for folks like yourself, serving on a nuclear carrier is the holy grail for nuclear engineers. Good luck with your studies.
@@dominicksforza3484 oh if only I could !! I am european tho, would probably be seemed a security threat if I ever came close to a us navy base.
For a nuclear powered aircraft carrier, full speed is nothing compared to flank speed. Anyone who has ever been on a nuclear ship traveling at flank speed will not soon forget the experience.
It will rattle your teeth

Thanks for the video.
Those ships are huge.
The nighttime filming made this video worth watching.
John Christovassilis Used to be very different up there on night ops. Had to keep your head on a swivel
Enough power to end small to medium countries in one vessel. Scary hardware right there.
Awesome!!!
WOW! We are certainly proud of that supercarrier as well as all the personnel who serve on her! We salute and thank all of you for your service to our Country. That's one mighty ship, a whole city within her! We understand that destroyers, supply ships, nuclear submarines, missile cruisers etc. are with the carrier to protect her, the carrier battle groups have a missile defense net that have many ways to destroy incoming missiles. As far as enemy subs go the carrier battle groups have anti-sub planes, helicopters, etc. and would be alerted to the enemy subs presence long before it was in range for it's torpedoes and would be quickly dealt with, so it's good to know that she's very safe out there! (Thank you for posting and allowing us to see her at sea!)
Thank you USS Theodore Roosevelt Capitan and crew
What a thing of beauty!
USS Theodore Roosevelt is magnificent 😍
That's just poetry in motion. God bless everyone that is served and is serving the US of A.....
When I was in the military, I got to work on two different amphibious assault ships. They're basically small aircraft carriers.
Especially with the introduction of the f35.
No, they aren't. They are basically platforms for vehicles to support land assault. Aircraft carriers deploy aircraft for other reasons generally
I was on a frigate doing plane guard during flight ops with the Carl Vincent. We could flank over thirty two kts. But couldn't sustain very long following the Cartier. And they would pull away from us. That was 1982.
Imagine 1 of these in ww2, the war in the pacific would be over in a day
One alpha strike would've made a parking lot out of anything with one attack. The new nukes are even more capable than the Nimitz class, which were far beyond what the conventional carriers were capable of. There's nothing on this planet a US Navy aircraft carrier couldn't hit.
If there no WW2 USA would never be superpower like now days. USA become superpower because after WW2 USA and Soviet stole all Nazis engineer ide lol .
Lol

Moving but not close to full speed years of constantly improving nuclear technology is faster than you think!
Roosevelt is listed as being capable of 30+ knots, The USS Essex, CV-9 was capable or 33 knots and I happen to know that the Essex class could meet and exceed that speed. The newer carriers are not much faster than their conventional counterparts. They can, however, steam for decades without refueling. Steam is steam, the method of generation does not impart magical properties.
@@whidbeyhiker4364 I heard somewhere that the Enterprise carrier could go 60+ but didnt hold that speed due to hull damage.
@@tennesseecurtiss5741 No not even CLOSE

Amazing!
A series of movie about this will be great to watch...
My buddy served on the JKF and said top speed was around 85 mph no clue if that’s true. But he’s not a liar known him 36 years.
Trust , me it is correct I've heard of them out to 65 mph , just a canter , regards Sergio .

During a karibik exercise
there was a old
german U 24 and the
US carrier Enterprise.
The U 24 came in reach
to the carrier without
being discovered.
It fired some simulated
torpedos to Enterprise
and hit.
After this success, the
crew made a nice photo
from her periskope,
to show how near U 24
was to the carrier.
On the other side, there
was a very angry and

A truly beautiful sight! 👍
Most of the people can't park their car. Look at the airplanes lol, perfectly aligned
Just Awesome!
Having been onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72, a sister ship, during speed testing, I can tell you that what you are seeing here with the USS Roosevelt is far from Full Speed as indicated. Probably running about 30 kts, but still very impressive sight and experience.
Full speed would likely be hullspeed. Would be a big stern wave and the ship would be sitting under it
Unless you've lived this life. You can never fully understand or appreciate this video.

When I was 10 years old I walked up on a brand spanking new 1960 Ford. This car was all curves compared to the model before and I still remember all these years later thinking how futuristic it looked and already aware that I might find such thoughts laughable in the years to come. Even at that age I realized that my worldview was so very narrow. Watching this video I can't help but wonder what sailors and pilots from a WWII carrier would think looking around the deck of this ship.

It's fun how they hit full power when they hit the deck so in case they miss the cable, they can go around. They only cut the throttle once they know they're hooked in. You can see it here.

If you think about it a commercial satellite might be able to deduce a certain speed by looking at how far the ship has apparently travelled by coordinates in what time, say to a conflict zone. It would not necessarily prove a top speed but you could say not less than X knots. Can't be that hard in principle.
I can't understand how there can be 1.9K dislikes of this video?
