So # 4 Naval Base San Diego and #9 Naval Base Coronado are in San Diego County in Southern California?
@@hoabui5532 They are. It's not unusual to have multiple military installations in a single county, or city. Another example in this video is both NS Mayport and NAS Jax are located in Duval County, Florida and are about 28 driving miles apart from one main gate to the other (depending on the route taken, it could be longer).
When we entered the Naval Base in Norfolk in 1977, we were deeply impressed by the size of the ships. We stayed in the USA and the Caribbean for four months and completed a five-week training course in Guantanamo with the Fleet Training Group. We achieved the grade Outstanding at that time.
I served in the German Navy from 1975-1979 and was deployed on the destroyer ROMMEL. Our ship belonged to the John F. Adams Class and it was built for the German Navy in the Bath Iron Works - Bath / Maine. We had three ships of this type that formed the 1st destroyer squadron in Kiel.
I like to remember that time.
Thank you for sharing experience
Nice to hear from our friends.

Sad enough that already at this time in the 70's americans had to build german destroyers. But it is even more ridiculous today to see housewives as our minister of defense running the German Bundeswehr. Don't we we have an pride no more that we let these people making a kindergarten out of our soldiers and the German army and these and other politicians who have absolutely no clue, what they are doing, running our once so beloved country into the ground? This brings back some very fond memories ! Started in San Diego, boot camp (you know that was a long time ago) and 'A' school. Made way to "rotten" Groton, on to Mare Island and then Norfolk. Been to J'ville and Mayport along with Kings Bay...the good old days which I'd never trade in...been on northern runs (blue-nose)and places that are probably still classified...miss my old shipmates...some are gone and some I've lost contact with but I am thankful for the privilege and honor of serving my country in the best military force in the history of the world !

Nice run down, During my time in service I saw about half the list at one time or another. I recall taking a course at Naval Station Norfolk in June of 1990. I'd often have lunch at the McDonald's across from the carrier piers. I was an awesome sight to see with most of the fleet in port.
