    The bollard problem is so easy to fix. Put a scale on the Bollard, don't go up when weight is on top.

    • @q3kq3k
      @q3kq3k Před 3 měsíci +39

      You don't even need a scale, just detect a motor stall. If for some reason your motor driver doesn't support that, you can do it separately by measuring current with a bunch of passive components and a comparator. It's like $.50 worth of extra parts to detect this condition, and you should be doing that anyway to avoid burning out the (comparatively) expensive motor.

    • @marcosmoura911
      @marcosmoura911 Před 3 měsíci +41

      Both bad solutions. Just add a gearbox so it goes up anyway regardless if a car or a truck is on it. lol

    • @scragar
      @scragar Před 3 měsíci +35

      Easier solution, install security cameras and force the people who damaged it to pay for repairs.
      Also tow the cars that are parked illegally and force them to pay impound fees and parking fines to get their cars back.
      People will stop doing it when the consequences excede the reward, and right now it looks like the city just doesn't care which is why it gets taken advantage of.

    • @baronjutter
      @baronjutter Před 3 měsíci +20

      Also I've known cities were bollards like this were constantly attacked by entitled drivers, the city simply made sure they were also protected by cameras so the criminals who destroy them can be charged for the sometimes hundreds of thousands of euros of damage.

    • @Alexlfm
      @Alexlfm Před 3 měsíci +3

      You wouldn’t use a scale. The way it’s normally done is to use a current sense resistor on the motors power supply to monitor how much current it’s drawing. Then it’s a simple matter of having it timeout anytime it’s over current like it would be when it’s trying to go up with a car on it.
      That’s assuming though that the problem is in the motor. In reality it could just be that they’re using a garbage gearbox, which would tend to be my guess. Though you could use current measuring to protect the gearbox too it’s not nearly as foolproof unless you build a better gearbox which costs money.

    We have a similar water dispenser in my city, albeit just in a pedestrian mall. Initially you had to buy a card and load it with funds to use it - but you couldnt do any of this at the machine, you had to find a retailer that had the facility!
    I rarely saw anyone use it, but somehow it survived long enough to eventually gain a credit card reader so you can pay directly for the water.

    After living in Prague for couple of years now, I am searching to move on. City is amazing, beautiful, has a lot of events, content etc. The downside is that Czech living standard isn't proportionally growing with the inflation and prices. The city is incredibly expensive and they try to charge you everything possible, literally everything. Now that is fine if you are a tourist and you visit for few days, that is to be expected, but when you live here that is a nightmare. I work in an IT company and many of the foreigners from it already went to surrounding countries. My conclusion at the end is also that this is a city for tourists and it doesn't pay off living here unless you are having very good income. I mean, try to find a place to live in Prague, you will find yourself paying 500 euro for a jail type room in the basement with no windows. The only cheap thing is the beer but if you are not alcoholic that doesn't change the situation too much.

      All tapwater in the Czech Republic is very well purified and completely safe to drink. The norms for drinking water are very strict in Czechia. One thousand liters (yes, 1000!) of such high-quality tapwater costs about three euros (65 CZK). How much does it cost to fill one liter bottle? Exactly 0,064 CZK or less than a cent/penny. Sure, there are some maintenance and cleaning costs involved, but the public health benefits of travellers having access to clean water likely outweigh the costs. Yearly budget of this train station is hundreds of millions of crowns.

    0:30 as an arthritis sufferer this bothered me in Tokyo. With bad knees, going down stairs is often as bad; if not worse than going up as I can't brake effectively with my knees. Going up is slow and painful, but if I ever get hurt.. It's from going down the stairs.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin Před 3 měsíci

      That's why I don't brake when I go down. Older people alway do one step and then stop, that's extremely inefficient, for example when I go with my father from some longer hill, it's really suffering for me, because I can just let my legs go without actively braking to save energy, I have to do few steps and then stop and wait for him. I can't really imagine how it is like beying older, but these people are not that old, they are in their 50s very often. I would say that today younger generations are in much better condition than our ancestors were. I am 32 now, I feel the same as when I was 15, but when I was 15 and someone was in his 30s, he was already considered like almost middle age, not able to jump and run etc, in the past 30 years old person looked like today 40+ but on other hand, there is terrible amount of lazy fat people who can't even do one step without car, but that's already offtopic I guess. 😀

    I think the whole "skip the line" crap should be ended... these mobile food order apps like at a coffee shop where people walk in, see a long line so they resort to ordering on their mobile to "skip the line".. They should put a 5 minute wait on their order to prevent people from using it to "skip the line".. this is basically if you have more money than everyone else you can just butt in line because you have a phone & credit card... they do it on credit which is even more of an insult to people waiting in line... Whenever i see it happen.. I walk out of line and leave letting them lose a customer each time... maybe more people will follow suit...

    • @HakanMB

      But isnt it free to "skip the line"? I use it alot at McDonalds, or I order with the app to be correct. Everybody can do it, not every does. But if I know I will drive to McDonalds in 10 min, why not order my food, and it will be ready when I come. Instead of waiting 10 min inside of the restaurant. Sometimes order when Im at the restaurant and have to wait 10 min, doesnt matter if someone comes from nowhere and pick up their food before mine is done.
      If it was a VIP-treatment or something, then it would be another thing. Paying like 5€/month to get first in line, then I would stand with you. =)

      Unfortunately, that's the case of plenty of places and it takes citizens to change things. For example, when it's time to vote the new mayor. Send an email to each candidate to ask about specific things that you would like to have fixed/changed. From the answers you can decide who to vote. I'm sure some of them will say I do that and then don't do it, but you can send more emails and protest with other like minded people. And, obviously, vote for somebody else next time. I know it isn't a quick process, but starting is the main thing, then getting others people (friends, family, neighbors, etc) doing the same, being vigilant and pointing out to the autorities their negligence.
      I personally do a little cleaning of certain areas of my city and add few flower plants. Sometimes it can make a difference. 😊
