I am going to get a t-shirt with your face on it so that i can walk the streets of Prague free of scammers
I saw this happening to someone once
You've met that scammer two weeks ago? So there are still scammers in Prague even if it's no tourists there?
was stopped by a well dressed Dutch student on Wenceslas Square one night, he had been robbed at the train station when he arrived in Prague, they took his wallet and passport.
He couldn't get money wired to him without a passport and had nowhere to stay. He wanted money for a hostel, I asked why he didn't contact the Dutch embassy for assistance, offered to google the number and call it for him. He said he already called them and they were closed for the weekend. So the muggers had taken his wallet and passport but not his mobile phone.......I thought something wasn't right. He said he had no money for food so I said I would buy him a McDonalds as it was the only place that was open. He said no, If I gave him money, he could buy something in the morning.
I wished him good luck and gave him nothing. I don't know if he was a scammer but I didn't believe him enough to give him cash.
Funny bunch of gypsies (romania ) using Arabs name lol
These guys make it so hard for me, a businessman from Germany dealing in cars, to get gas money for my jewelry every time I forget my wallet at home.
Lol
Bwahahahahhaha!!!!!🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣 try to mix it up with something other than jewelry.
just stache some gas money somewhere in your car in a secret place for whenever you forget your wallet

I think you should carry some of those old belarusian rubles to give to these guys and claim you just exchanged your dollars for them and start persuading them that they actually are the czech currency. Dunno why I wrote this in english when I am actually czech but whatever.
Thats just Genius
Nice idea
Haha, great idea!!!
Lmao UNO reverse card
That’s a great idea.
Easiest way to get out of these scams is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..
A never ending story😂
Be sure to have your wife and children interrupt with crying as you deliver the endless "story".
I honestly am very jealous of creator courage to confront them in public so easily. Wish i got that skill too
Right? I'm a wuss.
It's not courage bro. He is paid huge amounts of money! He is part of the scam. I was a cameraman for him for only 6 days when I found out he was a fake. HE IS WORKING WITH CAR DEALERSHIPS, GOLD SELLERS, TIRE SHOPS, FURNITURE STORES, PAWN SHOPS and much more. You are all fools for continuing to believe these viral, supported, funded and even protected by local elites showpeople!

A guy tried to pull this of on me in Paris. When I started speaking to him in Romanian he said "sorry, I didn't know that you are Romanian" wished me a nice day and left. :))

I don't know about the other one but the one at 1:40 got almost killed by me. He dared to go for my mother's neck. When I saw this guy on other people's CZcams channels I was shocked. If I had killed him that day he wouldn't be on CZcams no more.
My husband had the same issue in a Racetrack gas station in Georgia, it was a family that was supposed to go to a wedding in NYC and they were all dressed up driving from GA to NYC, I told my husband, why would someone drive for more than 8 hours all wearing super fancy, elegant outfits?!?!?! Really? The guy was offering him a gold watch 😄
Same thing happened to my son in Georgia at a Love's Truckstop. Took him for a hundred bucks worth of worthless jewelry.
Thank you brother for attempting to inform others of the pitfalls of travelling and the scammers willing to take their hard-earned dollars.
I had something similar. When they give you the card, ask them to recite the phone number on it. They won’t be able to.
That is smart, but that would make me a scammer because I am a dumbass who doesn't know their own phone number lmao
If they just say "just read the card", reply to them that "my eyesight is not that good"
Or just a quick Google search of the phone number will help lol
@@Ilsezwarts I used be like this, but when you memorise it it's pretty useful.
recite one number of the phone number wrongly and see if they correct you too
A very serious and dangerous scam is when you "find" a kid "crying" and they need you to take them to a specific address (nearby usually). Police has issued multiple warnings about this since there are people waiting for you there to strip you out of your cash, car plus you can get abducted for ransom or worse. If that ever happens to you take the kid directly to the police station (cause it could be a situtation where the kid actually needs help)
Yep, this is actually true and it's happening in Portugal as well.
Call police! Don't take them anywhere
never take the kid. just stay there and call the cops.
otherwise you can get charged with kidnapping
Europe is wild lol

no it's not.
I looked this up because it happened to us for a 3rd time in Las Vegas today. This time they came up to our car window when my husband was in Walmart and my 13 year old was waiting in the car. My husband came out of the store and knew what was happening, he took the ring out of my sons hand and gave it back to the man.
Happened to me in Kingman
Worked at a pawn shop directly next to a gas station. I recognized the rings in the videos immediately, they have a very specific look and feel to them and are unlike other counterfeit gold ive seen.
So, I've experienced the "Dropped Ring" scam. Where someone runs up to you from behind, taps you on the shoulder and holds out a gold ring saying you dropped it. Then when you say it isnt yours, they say you can have it, but to give them some money for both of your good luck. So, I knew about this and in Italy, a lady tries this on us..so I said to her, "Yes yes thankyou so much that is mine!" And I kept walking. She started freaking out, asking for money..and when I said I didnt have any money..she wanted my shoes. I refused her my super comfortable teva sandals and she proceeded to take off one of her shoes, throw it at me, and then pick it up and walked away..with just one shoe on.
I threw the "gold" ring in the trash, and hoped I stopped someone else from getting conned, lol. It was great fun.
That's awesome)) i was in Beijing and some guy dressed as a monk in a lift gave me sacred icons (knowing he wanted money). I said thanks and got out the lift))) I think he started swearing))
Chad move.. Throwing it in the trash, something I'll definitely do. If it's real gold, s/he'll fish it out (which they won't).

The same one happened to me and my partner when we were in Paris a few years ago, twice within less then 10 minutes. Like, we literally walked away from one and were talking about it when another person approached us. The funniest thing was that I had just read about it and we had talked about it a couple of days before, with him saying that "that couldn't possibly happen that often."
Dude tried to pull this on me when I was on my lunch break at Walmart, I usually test people by saying I don't have any money. He immediately said to go inside and get some out of the atm, instead of leaving like a normal person. Dude even had his kids in on the scam. Disgusting people
I had a guy try to pull the same crap on me. I was downtown heading home and he claimed both him and his wife forgot their wallets and they ran out of gas. He also supposedly had kids and when I told him I had no money he told me about all the nearby ATMs. Who forgets their money and phone 🤔
What level of gypsy was he?

I was heading out of walmart like 30 min ago and some dude with a family pulled up behind me in a bmw x5 and asked for gas money, literally around the corner there was a gas station. I grew up as a teen in Miami and here you would learn to trust none, so as soon I noticed the gold ring and being too friendly, I said no he took off and never saw him again. Always remember to trust nobody. No one is your friend in this country lol.
Happened to me in a Target parking lot in Texas. Didn’t know about this scam but it sure felt like one. I just told him “no” and walked away.
I had this scam attempted on me. While I didn't know it was a scam I was at the store loading up my groceries and a foreign man come and offered me his ring for help. Instantly I said nope not doing it and that the pawn shop could help him then I left. Glad I didn't fall for it and should have called the cops!
Had this happen to me in NYC, Queens. I was talking on the phone on the sidewalk, when a car approached me and the driver asked me for the gas money and offered me jewelry in return. I didn’t know that this was a mass scam that goes around the world, but I knew right away this was a scam. Also the guy had two kids with him. I guess they bring kids with them to get sympathy
In Switzerland these scammers don't offer you golden jewellery but luxury clothes ; it's pretty wild that these sort of scams happen worldwide
I would much rather give someone 10 dollars for clothes than for brass chain that is worth like 50 cents, gotta admit the scammers in Switzerland got style
@@G59METH A friend of mine got scammed like that when he was young and from what he told me the clothes were mediocre at best and they asked him something like 30 francs. The logical explanation is that since we're next to Italy it's more acceptable to give someone luxury italian clothes than gold jewellery
7:15 he did mention that in the video
They only happen cause morons fall for them.
Is it you on 7:08?
I experienced this in San Francisco, luckily I didn’t go any further once he offered me a gold ring in exchange for a rank of gas . My mom told me as a kid “If it doesn’t make sense, then It is usually a lie
right. same scam happened to me where I lived a few years ago. I didn't get to the ring part because unfortunately for him, there were literally four gas stations the direction he came from so none of what was going on made sense. He had a little girl with him too. I hate that they use family just to cheat people.
I fell for this on a road trip through South Dakota. I gave the “family" $5. Then the junk rings came out. He wanted $50 now. I handed the steel to the toddler being used as a prop. In my hometown we have a scammer/bum who’s been trying to drive some kids to Danville. It’s been twenty years and he still hasn’t gotten there. Those helpless kids must be in their twenties.
Happens a lot in the Bay Area. Don’t take a cd or anything from a blk man & never take the ring. The big 2 scams I’ve had here in Cali

One of the BEST uses of social media is to spread information that helps people, educates them, and (hopefully) keeps them safe from scams and con artists. Good for you. I did not know this one. Here in New Orleans French Quarter....We have those wretched fake monks keeping US busy! LOL...
I experienced similar scenarios in the middle east. People driving cars claim they are in need of gas and hence need money. But it was more of panhandling than scamming. They would ride cars full of families - women and little children and I cannot fathom what kind of effect that would leave on their children's minds.
I experience this on Prague 3 years ago. In one of the bridges. The guy said it was Italian and his family were on the backseat (true). I didn't take the ring because I'm from a third world country and I know well you never never approach to a unknow car. I told him that i was from Mexico and i was walking because i didn't have any money. He leaved before i could finish. Jaja excelente comentario el suyo parcero, me hizo reír bastante, se a lo que se refiere. Cómo Colombiano entiendo a la perfección!

Its an insult to rob you without even investing in a gun ( basic tool of the trade).
Rule of thumb: Keep walking. Ignore. Don't let anyone stop you, touch you, or hand anything to you. I don't even take someone's business card unless I asked for it.
The ONLY people who will stop you on the street are people trying to scam you, rob you, or get you to join their cult.
A person truly in need will be humble and clear what they need.
Unfortunately this is true. Even if they are just asking for directions, or a match for their cigarette. People who want to scam you or rob you want to stop you, and then do their thing. If I do help them I do it without breaking my stride.
I have no problems with street thieves and beggars. I will be far more violent, viscous and noisy than they can possibly imagine. Be warned, these criminals can damage your shoes with their teeth.
It's a bit sad but that's the truth.
@@ppumpkin3282 ehh I don't think you have much to worry about from someone asking directions or to borrow a lighter, I've been on both sides of both of these examples and there was never an issue.

What really grinds my gears is that they literally bring their families along with them teaching them to continue the scam instead of making an honest living. If you were any parent worth their salt youd know the criminal life might pay well but it can also have diasterous returns like going to jail for one.
Oh yeah I mean he may or may not be teaching the child to scam but what he is definitely doing is bringing his (maybe even someone else’s) kid with him because it makes him look more legit. Enough people assume that no scammer would bring their kids along and are more willing to believe their story. Some people even bring their kids along with them while they’re actively robbing people as a bullet shield hoping whoever they’re stealing from will be less likely to shoot at their car with kids in it
All cultures are not the same. What a lovely addition to Prague.😃
Yup. One had his daughter we with him

And honestly - this is so bizarre - this cannot be an efficient scam. These guys are rolling around in Mercedes and BMWs trying to scam a little cash off of people. This can't be cost efficient with gas prices and the time it takes and the opportunity cost of using these cars to get - what - maybe 500 CZK each time?
Saw this first hand! Same setup, was in mid 2022 at a Wawa gas station in northern Virginia along the I-95 corridor.
i like how one of the cards say "Dusseldorf - Ellerstrae" because they cant type "Düsseldorf - Ellerstraße" lmao

I had this Scam pulled on me when I visited Rome, Italy. The guy almost had me, except for his greed. He was offering me a dress shirt and designer belt for my generosity in helping him. He wasn't happy with the amount of cash I gave him, so I said ' OK, give me back the $50 and I'll give you $100. When he gave me back the $50, I dropped his gift in the passenger seat and walked away.
I had something similar attempted on my in Hungary. The guy "found" a ring in a bush near the station where I was sitting and tried to get me interested in his find. His aim is to get you to pay half the cost of the ring and take the ring with you. I didn't know the scam a the time but I avoid interacting with people in these places due to scams, so I just gave him a thumbs up and went on with my day.
Ironically a lot of the time, they rely on your greed specifically. The gold thing is intentional, because it puts you in an almost "too good to be true" position where you really want that once in a lifetime bargain. But if the situation was real, would you really want to take someone's gold in exchange for a fraction of the real cost?
Yep. Had one in Rome too. About 10 years ago. He offered me t-shirts for free. Then he asked money for gas so he can get to the train station. I walked away.
@@ivanlagrossemoule Yeah, the "Oh, did you just lose this ring? It was behind you on the floor." is a typical scam in Paris as well.
@@ivanlagrossemoule yeah, happened to me on broad daylight in the middle of the most frequented tram car in Budapest. The guy even had a story that coming over from romania, and not having his ID on him, he's not allowed to take it to a pawnshop, so i can buy it for shits from him and take it there myself. In the end i simply declined, nothing fancy unfortunately
Wow! I love how u upped him up to $100, and then walked away with your original money! Smart!
I've had people come into my work offering me everything from shoes to watches to phones for like $30. Said no everytime and if they didn't leave, I was calling the cops. Never, ever buy anything that's being sold way below value from random dudes on the street because they're either stolen, defective or just plain fake.
The worst thing about these scammers is they make everybody assume the worst about humanity in general and just make you not even consider helping actual people in need because you've been burned too many times.
Yep. I was filling my truck in St Bonifacius MN on 3/22/24. I hadn't heard about this scam; that it is planet-wide. At any rate, some mo-mo in new BMW SUV, with a young child in the truck with him, laid the "Can you help me" and took a "gold" necklace off and offered it. I said no and he left but was just leaving at the time I left the station. He had apparently tried his scam on others.
What a strange scam. I would have thought that just asking for gas money would be more effective without the gold and other parts of this con.
I think it's because they ask for large amounts of money. They need gas but the only collateral they have is "expensive" so they ask for more than what you'd normally need for cash, a hundred or so as opposed to a tenner
Lol right? People in the US do that all the time.
A variant of the scam is that they want you to hold onto it until they "mail you" the repayment when they get home.
It relies on people's greed. Also they'll sometimes offer it as collateral and promise to wire or mail you the money back, on the premise that the ring itself is worth hundreds of euros the mark is more likely to give them much more cash.
Even if this were real and not a scam... I couldn't be bothered.
I don't have time to call someone back and arrange a means of them paying me back while I return their gold. Especially if I'm a tourist, I want to make my vacation time count.
Just for these guys you should have some monopoly money in your wallet to give them. If they call you out on it being fake money, just reply with "yes, I know, fake money for fake gold."
When i was a kid i once bought a fake watch from a guy selling it at the beach (i know i know) told the guy fake money for fake watch, his face was priceless. For the ones wondering why i bought it, i use it for travel incase i get robbed (worked already!)
And you can just claim that it's Canadian money
Thats pretty good !
A Brilliant idea.😎
Gonna buy some off of wish for this...good idea.
I had a similar scam in DR on the beach with a found gold ring. I talked him down in price and felt happy/guilty for my good find. Later over drinks three other gold rings were shown by our group to each other. They were brass and we all laughed at each other for being scammed.

"HEY, HEY, HEY"
I worked for a jewelry store in the central valley of California and we bought gold by weight. We had the official acid testers and it was always heartbreaking to tell someone that they had been cheated. It happened all the time. Always bought at a gas station from a guy needing gas. some paid up to 50 bucks thinking they were getting a real hunk of gold. It was always a huge man's ring that looks fairly real if you are not trained.
About a month ago, I got played by some middle eastern guy, with his wife and kid in the car. Very believable. I explained to the guy that I'm currently homeless and I couldn't really afford to help, but he seemed so convincing. He got me for $80, i had $40 left over for food.
I took it to the gold exchange to find out it's fake. They told me what to look for. I had the 18K stamp in the chain, but I didn't have a manufacturer's name.
I'm still homeless, but I have a couple grand saved. I got approved for an apartment for November.

I was confronted with the same scam in Russia, but they went even further, crying that they had run out of petrol and money, but had to get to a relative's funeral on time. Offering a "gold" ring from their finger, of course.
There was a guy who tried this every Christmas in gas stations around McLean Virginia for three years in a row, around 2009 or so.
There is also another scam that used to happen all over the Washington D.C. area. Two guys in a white van pull up and ask you if you want to buy some speakers really cheap. They tell you a story about how they work for a custom home audio installation company or a commercial AV installer or whatever. Their boss accidentally loaded an extra pair of speakers this morning and if they take it back he's just going to toss them because he already took them out of the box or off he inventory sheet or whatever bs. I decided to play along the second time I ran into this scam sometime around 1990. The speakers were a cheesey generic off brand with a bunch of cheap plastic grills made to look like dome tweeters and a fake horn tweeter, and then a midrange and a woofer. It was swap meet junk.
A few years later I drove a friend to a job interview and when we got there we both immediately recognized the speakers from the scam and joked about how we located the hidden lair of an organized crime operation as we turned around and drove away.
In July me and my husband go to the Prague, we seen this scamer in 2019, we have idea, in our country ( Poland ) we have a "money for kids to learn, totally fake, looking totally legit ", we take them, and give It to scamers ( if we met them ). I just experienced this in Dahlonega, GA USA. A young middle eastern man flagged me down and told me he was from Miami, even though he had Ohio plates, and that his CC stopped working. He then handed me his ring and told me to give him money. I told him I'd escort him to the gas station and buy him gas with my credit card. He declined my offer of course. I also noted that I had seen him around town flagging down cars. He got nervous and left.
It happened to me in 2005. A guy and "his young daughter" asked for help with gas. He told me he was from another city and he needed to get home. I did give him some money for the gas. Yes it does hurt the honest people that really need the help. We have pan handlers here in the states that work pretty much like a company. A car will drop them off and come back later and pick them up and drop off someone different. Best think they say is to look at their shoes. Why would a homeless person be wearing a brand new pair of high dollar shoes? They hurt the people that need help too. If they really need gas then why are they wasting gas riding around asking for gas and if they have gold jewelry, why don't they go to a pawn shop and pawn them🤔.

Bewear of scammers and who you give your money to, I have been scammed from the online scammer but appreciate God for bringing me THEGREAT BEST OFFICIALPAGE on Instagram got my account verified.
I’ve forgotten my wallet and needed gas before. I went in and told the attendant. They wrote down my plate number, took pics and all kinds of info about me and let me have $15 credit until I could bring my wallet. They said it happens a couple times a month. The scammers are pretending to be in a predicament that doesn’t exist.
When I was realy young like 7 or so I remember this happened to me and my family in Sweden when we were on a little roadtrip. It was the exact same sort of scam with a family that was “out of gas” so they stopped cars and wanted to trade a ring. I remember that we just left them after negotiating for a little bit. I also remember some of the family members were sitting outside the car eating McDonald’s like it was a walk in the park waiting for their parents to Finnish their “job”
Yea, who falls for this BS???

Still happens, very similar scams, but only a few months ago an Italian guy stopped me in Värmamo of all places. He had the story he went to a business meeting but the people he was supposed to meet missed the meeting, and he had some very expensive sample watches to sell for a few hundred kronor because he could not afford to pay the duty on them on his return home.
Usual deal, luxury car, well dressed, well spoken.
How disgusting!! There are many different types of scammers all over the world. Thanks for showing and telling about this type of scam.
I wonder if the license plates are valid for that scammer driver or are they also fake????
Thanks again and take care.
We just experience that two months ago on the Freeway in Houston, TX. This a young man, he waved on the side of the freeway like he needed help. When we stopped there he said he needed gas, then he said he can trade his rings and gold chain for $200.
Around 2015, I was standing by myself outside my small hotel in London when a woman walking past suddenly bent over and picked something up off the footpath beside me. She turns to me and says "you dropped your ring". I replied "no, its not mine". She then replied "oh well you can have it, it will look nice on you". I still refused it saying that I don't wear jewellery. She tried a third line of which I can't recall but again I refused to take the ring so she gave up and left. I thought it was an odd thing so I googled it and turns out she tried to pull the "gypsy ring scam" on me. Had I taken the ring, she likely would have harrassed me for money as a reward or as a small payment for the trinket.
Homeless in Florida will walk up to you at the gas station with a tank asking for money because their car is stranded a mile down the road. If you offer to fill it up they refuse.
Yooo, a variation of this happened to me two weeks ago in Prague, on a street between Prague Castle and the Senate building. I was heading toward the river when a woman came up to me looking sad and telling me she lost her bag and "needed money for travel." The funny bit was that she had a small bag strapped over her chest, and she saw me look at it. (I mean, what's the point of a secure smaller bag if you keep all the good stuff in the big bag?) She gestured to her back, and again said, "need money for travel." I finally grew a spine and said no. She gave up easily and started scouting out other people.
Subscribed! A scam I came across on my last trip to Europe, first in London, then a couple of days later in Berlin, was the old gypsy woman holding a suspiciously quiet toddler in her arms, begging for money. What kind of toddler just lays there with its glassy eyes staring off into the distance on a warm summers day? I reported both suspicious cases to the first police officers I encountered, who perhaps unsurprisingly, decided to do nothing about it.
As a child I saw this routine being played out on my father - he was offered a fancy looking watch (1973). When he declined the guy tried to negotiate a watch swap with him - the flashy fake Rolex for my dad's gold Omega.
I reckon it's at least as old as the Romans.......Excuse me, citizen. My friend met a cute girl that pretended to be an escort, took him back to the hotel where they drugged him and maked out his credit cards in the room while he was passed out.crazy and funny at the same time..be safe out there
This happened to me in the states. A man had his whole family in his car. Wife and like 4 or 5 children. And he offered me the same exact ring in your video. I still have the ring. I gave him $30 US dollars for it. I took it to a Jeweler shop and they told me it was 100% copper. They took advantage of my kindness, but everyone has their dues in life to pay and he'll pay for his one day
We've encountered this a lot in Turkey. People often come up with the same excuse: 'I ran out of gas, I need to go home,' and so on. I'm currently dealing with customs, and I need some money to buy gas. Here's the thing: I can offer you these perfumes or even Apple products at half price, but that's when you realize they're all counterfeit. It's disheartening to see how the world is deteriorating, yet there are still people like you who strive to make a difference and bring about positive change.
Me and my husband experienced this only the guy was standing on an exit ramp next to his car and flagged us down and said he needed gas. Offered us a gold ring and we said no, we went and bought a gas can- put gas in it and went back and of course he and his car was gone. This was in southern Illinois
Did anyone else notice that when Janek's yelling at the second scammer to stop, saying "Hey, Hey, Hey!!", that the car's license plate ends in "HEY"? Seems like he was prepared lol.

Those "business cards" look like the cards they stick onto your car door window in big parking spaces in Germany, saying they want to buy cars for import export

I experienced a similar situation in 2011, in Berlin, when I was approached by an "Italian" who claimed that he had come to Berlin for some fashion exhibition and that he ran out of money for gas to get back to Milan. So he tried to sell me some used clothes with some fake tags attached. When I told him that I don't have money for something like that, he insisted to tell him how much money I have at me. I didn't stay to listen to what other "requests" he had. So he angrily started his Citroen Xsara and drove off.
I for one am always happy to help these guys out, and I’m saving all the gold rings in a big jar for my retirement. 😊
This reminds me of the scam where some stranger "finds" an expensive piece of jewelry in front of you and decides to share it with you. You just need to buy their half.
Yep I had a guy try this in cuba. I told him to keep the ring because I don't like rings and he laughed and left.
I experienced this two times now in Texas. It was very alarming at first seeing a "distressed well dressed" man with his family. When i offered to pay for gas and ONLY GAS as the pumps were a few hundred feet away, they declined multiple times. They really just wanted to cash and offered to drive further away to a bank (to also trade for a GOLD ring). They left after i repeated my lack of cash. I didn't feel so about about letting down a family "in need" as i saw their rented BMW drive away and my senses came back to me.
They really should have known a millennial eating a bowl of macaroni alone in a truck older them him was a bad target for cash.

I've been putting off watching this because it's painful. I fell for it driving from Poland into Germany. The guy had a woman and child in the back seat and I pulled over on the motorway to help. I kind of guessed it was a scam and told him to keep the ring, saying 'either you're honest or you're not.' He wasn't, obviously. That was back in 2012.
I experienced much the same thing in the UK, several times over several years. Always Italians who were flying back to Italy the next day. I was offered a leather jacket... A watch... A suit. And suit material. Always a "gift". Well you know what they say "if it sounds too good to be true, it is"
I had a gas scammer actually come to the door of my condo asking for money for gas. I said "Sure. I can help you." I grabbed my keys and wallet and told them to follow me to the gas station that was 2 blocks away and I would buy them gas. Of course... they refused, got back in their car, and drove away.

In LA we used to get a similar version that they would do one of two ways. Either be sitting there with a gas can looking helpless and ask if they can get $20 for gas. That their family is inside and they need to get home (usually while the car is still running, wasting gas 😂🤣😂)
Or they “need money for a tow”. They have a tow company then but it wants $200 to come out (secret: it’s their friend that has a tow truck. Often with a legitimate tow company logo). And they’ll give you something of “more value” in exchange for you to use your credit card. Often a “designer bag” worth “thousands”. Bro…why is a grown man with two kids in the car carrying around a random empty designer bag in his passenger seat? Sometime they just take the $200. Sometimes your card gets skimmed.
I encountered this scam in Portland, OR, just before the pandemic. I was stopped at a light with my windows down, and a mild-mannered looking business man in the car beside me got my attention and said he was in town for an important meeting but accidentally left his wallet in Seattle and needed help buying gas. It was super weird so I just told him I didn't have any cash and drove off. I'm glad to confirm that it was, indeed, a scam. It definitely felt like one. [Edit: I feel like I should mention he was a white guy since so many people here are commenting that the scammers they've encountered were Middle Eastern. White guys who look like lawyers do it, too.]
Omg, this happened to me last month at my parents place (Canada). He called me down from next to my house (suburbs), and after his sob story I blatantly said “Sorry, but what do you want from me?” They asked for gas, which was weird, so I said no and watched them drive away. Why would I give gas money to somebody driving in a car, they clearly had enough gas to get that far. You break down, you walk, you don’t immediately start begging.
It would probably work on a generous American. Over here walking is often dangerous, roads are made for cars exclusively with accomodations for pedestrians coming as an afterthought if at all. To an American, no gas == stuck.

I experienced this myself for the first time Monday last week in Atlanta. I was never aware of it and that's why I'm here now wanting to know if this scam was common. The guy who tried me was pulled over on the side of the road in a brown GMC Acadia. He claimed he was from Germany. His accent was clearly Middle Eastern. He was saying he needed gas for his rental car. The car only had dealer plates. He had a woman and baby in the car he was claiming to be his family. After the gas station, he started asking for money via gift card from the gas station so he can get a flight to Germany. Initially, he was saying he needed to get to Texas. I just so happened to be on my way to Arizona. I offered to caravan with him and fill up his tank. He changed his story to needing to fly to Germany. He claimed he was very rich and wore "expensive" clothes. I am big into high fashion. I knew his accessories were fake. He offered me "gold" jewelery valued at over $2000 a piece. I didn't take it. I gave it back because I'm genuinely a nice person that doesn't want anything he was handing me. As soon as we arrived at the station, I didn't know why he was pulled over like something was wrong with his car. He initially claimed he was out of gas, but I saw it still had a quarter tank. He could've at least made it to the gas station himself. I called the cops in atlanta after he fled. I took pics of his car as he was running away. If I could post pics on this comment on CZcams, I would so everyone here in Atlanta could be aware of this guy or any of his shady friends. I only called the cops because I was concerned that the baby and woman were likely victims of human traffic. I'm fully aware most police departments will not crack down on the scammer since I didnt give the guy anything, but perhaps theres a way they can pursue him and his group for Human Trafficing.
In Indianapolis this same scenario happened to me at a gas station. I put gas in his car and told him to keep his ring but he insisted I take it. The ring turned out to be gold plated. The guy was well dressed and of middle eastern decent. He had a woman with him he said was his wife. He was trying to make his way to Texas but lost his wallet.
I found very similar scam in Italy some years ago, but the interesting part is that the same guy stopped me two times in the exact same spot, telling each time the same story about fuel.
I told him "You had the same problem right here just one month ago!"
It was near Peschiera del Garda, and he probably targeted German tourists, but didn't expect to find another Italian.
I experienced this in Poland almost 25 years ago. A car was parked at the site on the road, child inside and a crying woman who wanted to sell her ring for money to buy gas. Coincidentally I had a jerrycan gas in my car, and a petrol station was 2 kilometers down the road. So I offered him gas to reach the station. He declined....

I would insist that his car is electric and he doesn’t need money.
Oh this is what Dwight and Jim would debate in the Office series. Did you watch it? :D
I am not even sure this should be considered as a scam because nobody should buy a golden ring or necklace from a stranger they just met!! But if you are willing to take the risk for making a profit from those ''gold'' items then it is your problem really...
Something similar, happened to me, in a supermarket a guy asked me if I knew where he can find a certain product, while I'm pointing at a store employee he can ask, another guy walks past us and drops a plastic bag full of golden chains, and keeps walking like he didn't notice, the guy who was asking me for the product picked it up and showed it to me, $1500 is written in marker on the bag, and says: "do you want to split it?" I told him to keep it and walked away.
The next thing is to ask for what ever cash you have and let you keep the $1500 worth of jewelry, If you're greedy and dumb you might fall for this, I am very skeptical and don't trust anybody, plus I don't like jewelry.
That's a hilarious scam. Sounds like something youd see in a sitcom

This same thing happened to me in my home state of Illinois, USA. The guy had a lady walking around the gas station with a small child asking for money in exchange for a “gold” necklace. Be careful out there.
Good video. Thanks. I worked as an international truck driver throughout Europe and saw similar scams widely.
As mentioned its is common to have families in the car to appeal to emotion.
A variation with truck drivers is to approach them at an automated filling station and ask for diesel fuel. This means the driver will rob his employer to put fuel in the car. The fuel is doubtless syphoned off or more likely pumped out.
Another one is less tourist centred, a truck is allegedly low on fuel, the scammers ask for a few litres from the victim`s fuel tank to get them to a gas station. If allowed they "magically" produce a large container and a high speed battery pump. A lot of fuel transferred in less than a minute.
They`re all over the place. be careful.
Thanks again for the videos, a reminder for us all, even if we think we are well travelled we are all potential victims.

Except he was only wearing part of the uniform. I said no and a week later at a completely different gas station 30 minutes away saw him again doing the same thing, same half uniform, same story.
Same happens to me but it was a family waiting for me with their car at a "automatic" gas station in the middle of the night. Couldn't even get back in my car. They were blocking me to get gas.

Similar one in South Africa that caught me. Was filling up at a petrol (gas) station, guy comes and asks me for a few, well, liters of petrol as he needs to get to a job interview. A week or so later, colleague of mine who I had told the story to, saw the same guy at another station, with the same sob story and same car, so told me to blow it, that he knew it was a scam, and the guy ran off.

What I usually do in cases like this is say "Okay, come with me to the gas station I will buy the gas for you". That almost always ends it. Here in Berlin the scheme is similar... the people need money for something to drink or for a ticket for the public transportation. "I'll come with you buy you the ticket at the machine". They never accept this offer even though it would satisfy exactly what they claim to want.
Someone tried the same scam on me in a gas station parking lot, offering his ring for help with gas. His young wife and child were in the back, and he made sure to introduce them as part of the scam...but he quickly abandoned the scheme when i asked him why he was driving his car around when he was so low on gas, instead of walking. He even accused me of causing his family to go without because i "hated foreigners"...to which i replied that if he cared about his family he would earn an honest living instead of trying to lie and manipulate others.
Before he drove off, his wife did at least give me an apologetic look, proving she knew that her husband was wrong.
This happened about 3 years ago on my way home from work (UK, Essex). I was driving and his car was parked up on the pavement, right at the entrance to a large A-road. So no pedestrians at all so it looked like a legitimate breakdown. He was out of his car flagging other cars down and no one stopped; I felt so bad for him because he looked like he needed help. I was the idiot that stopped *sighs*. Gave me the same spiel about gas, gave me the card, ring etc. i didn't really focus on his story or the ring because i just thought he genuinely needed help and was trying to convince me to help....but once I opened my wallet....something inside said no...but it seemed rude to suddenly say no to him. So I gave him £5 and his response was "this is all you have?" in a slightly snarky way and I said "yes". I had more but obviously my alarm bells were finally going off so I didn't give more. I got home and checked out the card and address on the back and the location sent me to an open field somewhere in the UK haha. I fell for it. Hope my story helps prevent others from falling for this scam. Just because they are parked up and looking broken down like in my case, does not mean it's not a scam. Thanks for making a vid on this @Honest guide
This happened to me in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I was washing my car at a self wash station and right after I finished a man in a grey SUV pulled up to me and asked if I had some money because he needed gas to get back to Quebec. After I asked him to repeat what he said because his accent was hard to understand, he asked if I could speak French(no). I told him that I just used the money I had on the self wash. and I had only $1 left over that he could have. He must not have been prepared because after I said I didn't have money, he pulled up a "gold" ring on a chain and tried to offer it to me after without mentioning a card. I briefly told him that I didn't need that he sped off as I walked away.

I laughed in his face when I pointed out his gas gauge showed a half tank, plenty to get 90 miles to “home.” This was in rural Alberta, Canada three years ago.
I encountered the same thing in Denver. The driver a husband a wife and a child in the back, all very well dressed all in gold jewellery, driving a rental and from the middle east. Said they lost their wallet and needed money for gas, tried trading an expensive gold ring for gas money and then a Rolex. I almost felt bad because the entire family was in on the scam and tried pleading for cash to get to the airport to get to their flight home. Lucky I looked at the Rolex quickly and the second hand was ticking instead of smoothly moving and knew in the moment everything was then fake on what he was trying to trade and what the sad story. @@kingcookie3920 There's a comment above some one experiencing this sane scam in Switzerland 😀
Life is full of potential unpleasent events. It's not going to go away by ignoring it. Doesn't mean get walked over. Does mean face the problem to resolve it.
Otherwise it's just living in fear. Way I see it got to at least try. If nothing else the expreince helps with when it matters the most. Which it does.
That said I don't reccomend going to Africa. People will death march you there. Though even then the one that challenged them was let go (with some others still alive). Those that seek stength value strength. Spines get respected. When they're honest. It's about getting the other person to consider that they're doing something counter productive. Fear will breed violence. Escpaism is the path of self destruction.
If only scammers were the least of some peoples concerns. Thing is if you get scammed, deceived or taken advantage of then you were ignorant, weak and fragile enough to fall for it. How will you ever build up an immunity if you avoid? You won't. Therefor face the situation to learn how to catch on. Same logic applies in various situations. Things will get worse before they get better. Once they do get better though, you got it. You know. You're aware. It's not about "each and every scam". There's just certain "patterns" to look out for. You'll know them if you make it a point to look for them. Doesn't happen with what you know/fear alone.
If you want a hook then consider how the lack of expreince could cost someone their sanity or even their life. I have saved peoples sanity and lives because I don't avoid the unpleasent events. Really important to talk sense into suicidal nitwits when they lie to themselves.
It's why scammers are so unpleasent. They represent that "self delusion" that we can fall victim too. Yet even a scammer (or someone that hides themselves and self hates) can be convinced. Just keep asking questions. Keep showing you're observent without assuming. Keep getting people to ask themselves with the right questions. Then they can't take advantage of you. Even someone with a gun in your face will be defused if they question themselves when you're showing you're undestanding. Provided you know what you're doing.
considering the advantages, I think confronting and facing a few unpleasent events is worth it. Make no mistake though. My reasons are selfish. Just happens to benefit others too.
Consider this though. How many people have you taken advantage of without even realising when you're selfish? How many times have you been incosnidirate and refused to consider another perosons opinion? Perhaps after getting the last word in then shutting down communication. If this is so many people in the world, if the world is that selfish (which it is. Unfortunately) then it's no wonder scammers scam. That triggers them too? Does anyone consider that? Probably because they too live in fear. Or maybe someone judged them so they do it just so they know they have the choice. Could be any number of reasons. Reasons that none scammers gave them without even realising.
Better to assume nothing. It's what scammers take advantage of. Question everything. If you fall for a scam then you might have bigger problems.

The thing that doesn't add up here is I always keep about £20 in my wallet, specifically as emergency gas money, as well as another £10 plus some change in the car glove compartment (for parking meters, tolls & any other emergencies). So there is literally no way I could end up driving around asking for money.
Sometimes people just need gas. That would be my luck, because I would offer people something.
@@alanmalcheski8882 true but I think peoples intuition has a lot to do with it and the manner in which someone is approached
This is happening all over the USA as we speak. What’s crazy is people getting scammed are hiding behind helping people when what’s really happening is a scam mixed with greed. The greed takes over and the scammer wins and the scammed are rightfully furious. Again if it seems to good to be true… it is.
