actually enjoyed the ad this time. it's always a gift to see Honza also in front of the camera.
yessss!!!!!
What do you mean, we always see Honza...
;P
Do not get a Czech SIM card. Czechia has some of the most expensive phone services in Europe. Get it anywhere else in the EU and it'll work in Czechia.
Yes.
I did and it wasn't a bad price
What? Hungary is more expensive than Czech for phone service
Yes buy them in germany best prices 😂
@@goeran0 Polish card is maybe even better, but they require registration which can't be done without your physical presence, which could be a problem.
Saying "No, I'm from America" is such a good excuse to be ignorant...
Good point because we still don't know what a woman is 😂
yes we love a confirmation bias / clickbait moment

To be fair, you could stop me in the middle of the street with a camera and microphone, ask my name and age and I'd go EEEEEERHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM AAAAIIIIDONTKNOOOW???
I am like the woman who said she wanted to read everything afterwards. I never learned from just reading. But whenever I am in another city, area or country I get interested in all kinds of things. And then I sit in my hotel room in the evenings and read and watch videos about the things I saw.
Thats awsome! Hope you liked your stay in our city❤
Have been lucky enough to visit Prague 7 times now (never gets boring) and one of my favourite things to do is stand and take a random picture of nothing really (a drain or a brick etc), and see how many tourist then take the same picture afterwards ..it's hilarious
I love this
That's funny. Just like this vlog it highlights human nature and how we tend to "follow" what others do. Which can be good..and bad!
Janek should do it as an experiment and see what other people do! 😂😂😂😂
omg lol
Got back from Prague on Wednesday, went for 5 days. Great city…picturesque and beautiful scenery. Found out so much from this channel so thanks guys! Checked out a few of the old pubs where Czech locals go, great beer and hospitality. Will definitely go back. 🍻
I’ve been planning my trip to Prague for the last few months using your advice and recommendations as well as my own research, will finally be arriving on Friday. Even though I watched the video of you explaining how the clock works, I still wouldn’t be able to say what time it was 😂😂
if youre there and have extra time,u have to check out some other cities,Karlovy Vary for example ,im from there, its a very pretty city
@@rendycoya Yeah, especially the parts called "Drahovice" and "Doubí" theyre full of culture and the people are very nice 😉

Yesterday was our first day in Prague, walked 17 miles getting our bearings and finding the places we wanted to visit. Ticked off a few and was surprised that thanks to you guys we could remember what these places where and what significance they had 😃 Had lunch at the Dancing House and dinner at Las Adelitas 😍
Have a great time!
8:11 the honesty and love is just mind blowing!
Just got back from prauge what an amazing city, your videos helped so much and will deffinetly be visiting again next year!
Great video and very funny but also informative
Haha I liked this vlog, and topic.I enjoyed the sarcasm too! 😊
Thanks! You guys are the best!
I will be in Prague in 2 weeks. Im so excited!! And the name of the river is Vltava
*RARE HONZÍK CAMEO SPOTTED !*
And he was amazing in that sponsor segment, too.
Obligatory comment that he should be in front of the camera more often. We stan Honzík!

Wooo can’t wait to watch ❤
This was such a good video! 😄
I'm going to study for my next trip to Prague, but I answered everything correctly. 😂😂
I have used both T-Mobile and O2 and both work perfectly fine in Czechia!
And love the video 😍 hilarious 😂
Hi, we are happy that you are using our services 😀. Vašek, O2 Guru
I laughed so much. I arrive in 9 days and cant wait. Great video
Just came back from Prague. A lot of snow and beer, museums and landmarks, Christmas markets and great "classic" music (from street rock bands to Opera!) . It was my second visit and the city appears to have improved its services since 2017(except cleaning the ice from the pavements). A smart phone and a credit card can do all the hard lifting for you....for info to getting you around.
Younger people have been introduced in the tourist industry elevating the face of the country.
We had a great time in Praha. We ended up visiting on the anniversary of the velvet revolution, and the streets were packed. Unfortunately we were only there for one day but we'd love to come back!
Here for the strapicky reference (British guy who noticed the name and thought that referred to the trdelnik) - loved that video. Still cracks me up.
This video was awesome! I learned alot while laughing the whole time! See you in Prague this fall!
Fun video! I loved it! Prague is my favorite city!
what a fun idea theme for a video, loved it
7:57 the arrogance is just mind blowing...
On 14th of December i have a planned trip to Prague and i cant wait, your videos inspired me
This was so much fun. Looking forward to spending Christmas there again this year. I am seeking out cheap beers, so any other tips would be welcomed. Cheers. 🍻
Argus in Lidl
Such a fun video 😊
This whole episode is an excellent example of the bandwagon effect (so many people didn't know what they were waiting for or even looking at, but still just went with the rest of the herd). Also:
9:04 "Trdelník? Some locals call it 'strapicky' " For a moment I thought that would be a word for "piece of poop" or something (which in Czech would be "kus sračky"), but then I remembered that's how a tourist pronounced "staropražský (trdelník)" (which means "old Prague (trdelník)") in a previous video.
In a way, the pair of you could be Honzik, as it's a bizarre portmanteau of Honza and Janek 🤣 But that is probably a legit Czech name so apologies to anybody offended by this notion!
Well in fact, the names Janek, Jan and Honza are a single name. (John)
@@spokeshave5415Indeed🎉🎉🎉
Reference 9:40 Ay, 👍good guess😂😂😂😂😅
My flatmate "Honza" is called "Honzik" by his parents and grandparents.
Honzík is a familiar way of calling someone named Honza. For example parents would probably call their kid little Honzík instead of more adult Honza.
Was in Prague for the THIRD time this year, loving that city so much. I started learning Czech because this is my favorite city in Europe. Czech is pretty hard, though... I can say "Jeste dve piva, prosim", "Ktorim autbousem mame jet do centra? A pak metrem do stanice Staromestska?", or "Nejsme bulharski podvodnici!" (had to point that out to a very rude and xenophobic security guard who called us that), and also "Je to DHT zdarma pro lidi nad 65 let?". Oh, and I had to point out at the local lekarna that "mam bolest v krku". Still, pretty damn hard language.
Anyway, I'm going again for the RAMMSTEIN show in May. I also got to experience other parts of Prague beside the city centre. Like, I went to a concert club at a place called Meet Factory which was in a very weird, spooky part of town, near some train lines. Yet, I felt really safe. I dunno if this is near the "end" of the city but it felt so weird in there. I kinda feel more like a local now :D
Ještě tě bolí v krku z toho piva?
@@DaweSlayer Hahahaha, ne, ale mam velky zizen na toceny Pilsner Urquell! Just sayin, I'm so glad I understood what you said without Google translate :D
I was just in Prague about two weeks back. A shame I didn’t get to see you two on my time there
I have also seen your video about how to read the astronomical clock and I still don't know how to read it. Please reshoot it again. For non-astronomers this time.😂
Janek, nice to have met you in person in NYC. We are planning to go back to Europe in 2025. Quick question should we start or end in Prague?
Very interesting episode...make some more like this please 😊😊...
I am dying of laughter. Great video.
I have watched your video guys and you speak Spanish (or so I assumed because I heard you speaking some words) Janek… I wonder if you have ever been to Mexico. I love this channel and I am looking forward to go to Prague, thanks!
Big fan of you guys but you came across as mocking the visitors for not knowing the names/history of the sites. Sometimes it's enough behold and to appreciate beauty.
I know it’s just a fun video idea, but I don’t think tourists should read about every pretty building before they take a picture of it
I don't hear anyone saying they should.
@@MarvinCZ He didn't say that anyone said that
Well when you get back home and show the pictures to your relatives or friends they're gonna ask "Oh wow what's that building" so...
If they would photo every pretty building in Prague they would run out of storage place real quick :D
@@johndorian473 😂 dude what? Hopefully you never take a city skyline photo and show it to your family/friends. They will expect you to name every single building in the city for taking that one photo
I love hearing all the different accents. I will be there in a week and a half. Hope to run into you.
I spent 3 months in Prague, and God do I miss it!
I bet, just standing somewhere on a square, watching a balcony and if you stand there long enough people will stand around you waiting for the non-spectacular thing. 😂
"Are you know what you looking at? No, I am American." says it all hahah.
I would say that not knowing what you're taking pictures of is quite normal, you just like it, so you take a picture of it.
Can you do a segment or show on the czech routing markers. The hiking markers.
You are awesome and amazing.
I love your videos.
Or, I miluji your videa!!!😁

You got me at Minute 0:25 😂😂😂
You never get tired of trdelník, 🙂
We should have you guys in Zagreb
It would be nice to have this type of guides in every larger city/country
So many vacations could turn from bad to great.
Not talking about main destinations but actually many tourists just put points in their Google Maps and come to place. So many new places to visit, that people decide to take pics, then google those places history etc. Same thing does Czech tourists when they are tourists somewhere outside Czech republic [or Czechia how ever you call it]. But when people travel to somewhere far from big cities, to some castle or some natural place for example, then they will read more about the place beforehand (especially we Europeans and Asians).
We call it both, Czech republic and Czechia, same like France and Republique Francaise.🙂
@@davidpelcNo French person u now speaks about "république française", while "Czech Republic" is commonly used and "czechia" was introduced later on official diplomatic language. that was what the one you are replying to was referring too.
@@DietwinvonLengenfeld OK, then other example, United States and shortly just America.
"Priprava! Very easy Czech word!"
Oh, yes! I agree! What's easier than a word that contains an "r" that is pronounced somewhere between an "s" and a "th"?? 😅
Strapicky = Staropražské
brazil mentioned!!
Hahaha É foda!
Its crazy to me to visit a city and have no idea where to go, what to look for and having no basic Knowledge about the city. I literally spend days before my prague trip researching where i should go and what everything ist.
As a former flight attendant who usually had only a couple of hours to explore a city, most of the times I also had no idea of what I was taking pictures of and that is completely fine in my opinion.
Agreed! I think this comes across as extremely pretentious.
That propeller hat 😂
Good video. But I've never heard of the law of knowing something's name before taking a photo of it.
Quick learn everything before the tourist sommeliers get you!
04:30 - That tourist from Brazil should watch our video about Prague with a lot of history from the city hahahah
Janekkkkkkk I just saw you at bila labut 😅 crossing road without the zebra crossing. I was in the tram 😅🫶🏼
Not knowing names of things isn't always a sign of ignorance. I don't find names terribly interesting, so there's every chance that even if it's something I've researched, and could tell you about its history, I probably couldn't tell you the name.
I also tend to take pictures things I think are beautiful, even if I don't know anything about them. I don't need to know the title of a piece of art to see its beauty.
Not knowing what you're in line for, at least as a general concept of not a specific name, is a bit nuts.
Pulvertornis! We have one of them in Riga, Latvia. Come over and see it yourself.
Priprava in russian it’s flavors that we add in food like Knor, Galina blanca

"Do you know the name of the bridge?"
"NO, I'M FROM AMERICA"
She thought she is in Paris.
I was only the last night looking at some of my photos I took on holiday years ago and I don't know what the building is, google photos helped a bit with a name
2:00 One hundred and more years😂
I don't know why Always in my mind I imagine your name as honza
because it is his name, he is just known as Janek, but even Honza is not actually official variant of that name, that is Jan
I knew everything but i know it all because of this page and because i read when i go to a new place. How they dont know Vltava river, if its always on google maps..😅
4:30 The door (used by the clock keeper) leads to a room with the astronomical clock mechanism, which is actually pretty simple. You can also access a little balcony under the astronomical dial and by a small ladder you can climb right next to the statues of apostles. I got a chance to visit it and it was great.
😂😂😂😂😂 best video ever
Not to ruin the partnership, but 500 crowns for a week of 10GB?

It is from another vid where Janek asked tourist how it's called and he replied with Strapicky , the shop name was Staropražský Trdelník ( oldprague tdelnik)
that's why :D
Ahahahaha, that's funny! Thanks for explaining it!@@doposud
I love Janek's Honest Guide videos. But for me, this felt more like calling out tourists who didn't know about the city. From the comments, I'm clearly in the minority and I'm not claiming to be "right", but that's how it felt to me.
I don't want to feel like I go to a city that I'm interested in, and feel judged for not knowing stuff.
I'm sure that this wasn't Janek's aim with the video as he clearly says at the end that people were honest and that even Czechs didn't know many sites. But for me, personally, that's what came out of the video, a feeling that I am expected to do a lot of research before I go to visit somewhere many people recommend.
What would have worked for me (again, this is only my opinion, not a "correct" view) would have been to give more of an intro as to why you're asking them these things? "We wanted to see how many tourists were honest about their knowledge of our history/culture" and also maybe say that during the interaction with them so that it feels less like a trick caught on camera.
I'm sure I'll get a lot of counter arguments, but this isn't me claiming a right or wrong, just what I felt watching this. I'll still support Janek's videos and keep watching them, I'm not a hater.
I was thinking the same thing and I’m not very sure what the aim actually was here. I don’t think the assumption that people have to do research before taking a picture on their vacation (let alone to know your name) is justified. 🌝 The sponsorship is the only thing making their point relevant imo 😃 the video was probably an afterthought to the sponsorship, not vice versa.
Thanks for writing out your thoughts. I shared many of them but didn't quite know how to express them. Same as you will still be coming back for more. That said, I hope to never be approached by Janek with Honza behind the camera asking if I know a building in the distance. I'd be gob-smacked by the camera and not able to remember anything I watched on it. But I'd love to meet them in the streets of Prague.
I just saw it as a little bit of fun really. It's not that deep. I don't think he meant to judge anyone. It's OK to laugh at yourself sometimes.
Too many people are far too conscious of their own laziness as tourists and are blowing things out of proportion. Stop taking everything personally and calling yourselves out. It's pretty clear from Janek acknowledging many times that he didn't know certain things around the city either, that it wasn't meant to mock tourists. It was a light-hearted episode based on a funny observation about tourist behaviour, that kind of goes against what common sense would lead you to expect. He didn't go out of his way to make tourists look bad. People like the 'you ruined his video" guy or the Indian lady who just couldn't be bothered did it to themselves.
Isn't that kurtosh?
