  • In this video I changed the rear door latch assembly on the driver side or just fix the clips. Went to local junk yard to find a good working assembly or you can order clips off Amazon.

Do the door on the opposite side. I removed Outside and inside handles as well as the door latch. Everything seems to work fine til I get to put everything back. Shut it. Door won't open. Key hole feels weird now as it wont turn as it normally would. Its eaither my cables are too stiff and wont let door latch return to normal position or it the door latch itself not returning to the original position. But when i take it apart everything seems to be working normal.

Putting the whole unit inside the clip didn't cause the cable to be too short? There are slots in the plastic to fit the clip. I would have loved to have seen you attach the cable to the bottom latch.

Getting the cable end into the handle was easy to follow because it's in your video. Since none of the other questions on here have been answered, I suspect you aren't going to tell me how to get the cable ends into the latches assemblies, so I will just thank you for the help that you did provide and look elsewhere.

@@WedgeGangly Thanks for your comment! I was having issues with the right door as well, thankfully I was able to get it opening again without needing any replacement parts. After examing all the cables it turned out the only problem was the right rear door handle mechanism was just sticking because the screw holding it to the door frame had rusted up, after spraying it with a generous amount of WD40 and loosening it just a touch the mechanism now resets allowing the door to open. Probably not a permanent fix but I doubt I will need to tamper with it again before I get rid of the van (it's a work fleet vechicle with 200k+ miles on it).

My 99 E350 came with a replacement side door the guy was going to replace because of dents. So far I have had no problem removing everything off the old door, except the outside door handle and its corresponding inside piece that has the heavy spring on it. Its just beating the daylights out of me how this thing is mounted and removed. If I can get it free, the whole cable assembly will just pull out. But I can't see clearly enough inside the door to see how its mounted. I am about ready to take a saws all to the old door and cut a opening big enough on the backside to see it directly.
Its an old video, but anybody ever taken apart the main door handle on the right side big door and can tell me how this thing is mounted and removed? My four letter vocabulary is increasing exponentially on this project. I almost wish I had thrown out the new door and fixed the dents in the old door at this point.

The OLD cars from the 70's n 80's never had these PROBLEMS. I had a 1986 Ford F-250 for 15-years and it NEVER had door issues. These car companies better hope I never become rich, if I ever do become rich, I will start my own car company and I will make sure everything is simple and easy to repair, or better yet, that it never breaks to begin with.
Man... can't they just make a simple dead bolt for these vehicles such as a simple dead bolt that one uses on a house door.
