Thanks for the overview. I bought a Tripleplay Connect and the wireless computer version also, the latter is a nightmare to set up whereas the Connect is simple and I used the Wireless USB interface to remotely connect my guitar to my iPad for my plan to street perform with the Connect with everything wireless. Can you please advise me how I import better instrument voices to the Tripleplay Connect that the Wireless version offers in abundance!

You need something like the Apple "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" ($29). There is also the Apple "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter" ($39) that allows charging the iPad while using TriplePlay at the same time. You might be able to find cheaper adapters from sources other than Apple, but be careful and read reviews. Note that currently Fishman charges $20 to permanently unlock the Connect iPad app for use with the wireless controller.
How do you remove the pickup without damaging the guitar?

Hi. This specific unit is meant to be plugged directly into an iPad. Even Fishman's other Triple Play System is meant to be used with the computer, but you can use the MIDI to go from the computer to other MIDI devices. That adapter (m-audio uno) is a "USB MIDI interface" which will not work without a computer. What you need is a "USB MIDI host", such as Fishman FC-1, Kenton USB MIDI Host MkII, MIDIPLUS USB MIDI Host (I have not personally tested this last one), and others. An audio interface is required for optimal output of your Fishman system. It's a virtual instrument with the guitar as controller. Wireless only at this time.

Great question! While you can import loops and backing tracks into the Connect App, there is not a way to import other MIDI instruments. This would be best achieved by using the product with your choice of DAW on your computer. The app also supports inter-app audio and Audiobus3, which may allow for some workarounds.

Hey there, Buster. You should be able to run from Guitar Rig into the TriplePlay without any issues. All you’ll need is an audio interface to run an output from your computer into the TriplePlay controller. Then it will just be ¼” connections. The sound of the TriplePlay comes from a ¼” instrument out, so it’s made to be plugged into an amp.

Can you connect to arranger keyboard via 5-pin Midi to play instrument voices from the keyboard on the guitar???
Hello! Unfortunately the TriplePlay system won't let you connect via 5-pin MIDI to a device like a keyboard, it is designed to connect wirelessly to a computer only. If you have a MIDI pickup already installed on your guitar (like a Roland GK3 with a GR55 floorboard, for example), you could take a normal 5-pin MIDI cable and trigger notes on an arranger keyboard from notes you're playing on your guitar.

You can add a Fishman FC-1 or a USB MIDI Host box (from Kenton, MIDIPlus, or others) to convert the USB MIDI to 5-pin DIN MIDI, and achieve what you are asking for. Note that it must be a USB MIDI Host, not a USB to MIDI adaptor.

Hey, Shodah! Thanks for your interest and great question. I can’t speak for it’s compatibility with any specific DAWs, but I do know it can act as a generic MIDI controller on Mac or PC. Fishman has a video tutorial connecting the pickup to Garage Band to control other virtual instruments:

Yes, it can connect to other apps on iOS. It can also connect to synths, DAWs, etc. on Mac, Windows, Android, Linux.
This is better than a roland pickup considering it doesnt need any aditional Roland machine to work

Hi can you use the device for creating tabs automatically by playing with guitar and using a tab software like guitar pro?
The Connect controller can be made to work with the Guitar Pro tab editing software, but Guitar Pro will not detect note durations, so you need to manually choose a duration, then each time you play a note or chord it will advance by the current duration, so entering 1/8 note riffs (for example) will work fairly well, but it will be more work to enter runs that have varied durations. Assuming that you want to try this, I will provide a guide here. All of this assumes you are running on Mac or Windows, since Guitar Pro for iOS (as far as I know) doesn't support recording tabs from MIDI. Go to www.fishman.com/support/tripleplay-downloads/ and download TriplePlay v1.4.177 or later. Install and run this software; it will not include any 3rd-party plugins but that should be fine in your case. When you plug in the Connect controller to the PC the TriplePlay software will typically prompt you to update the firmware, so do this step. There will be a couple more setup steps that will happen automatically or with a click. Now adjust the string sensitivities by playing hard on each string and observing the display, adjust so that it barely goes all the way into the red. Now open the Patches window, and select a Hardware Patch from the right-most column. Close the Patches window and double-click on the words "Hardware Synth Plugin" which will open a window of controller settings. Choose MIDI Mode = Mono (gives you separate MIDI channel per string) Touch Sensitivity = Fingerstyle and slider all the way to the left (minimizes false notes) Pitch Bend = Trigger (turns off MIDI pitch bend). Now run Guitar Pro; I'm running v7.5 so exact details may not match what you see. Start by choosing New File, then the Add Track dialog will come up, so click Create. Go to the Sound menu and choose "Audio/MIDI Settings...". Under MIDI Input choose "TriplePlay Connect TP Guitar" (it can work with the wireless controller as well). Scroll down and select "First Channel for lowest string", then close the Preferences window. Now go to the Sounds menu again and select "MIDI Capture" which will now have a checkmark. I realize that there are a ton of steps here, and I have glossed over some of the very fine details, but assuming I described it correctly and you were able to get each step to work, when you play you should see TAB and notation automatically appearing. Depending on your guitar, your tuning and setup, and how clean you play, your results will vary. Use a pick for maximum pitch detection accuracy. Mute the strings between entering each step. Back up using undo and try again if you see that the data was not what you intended. Hope this helps!

Automatically? Not quite. The easiest way to do it would be to record your song as a midi and then import the midi into Guitar Pro. Otherwise you're editing note by note.

Yes, both Connect and Wireless versions of TriplePlay have similar capabilities, except for the wireless capabilities and additional controls on the wireless version.

Yes, but you need to update the FC-1 firmware to the latest, using either the Connect iPad app or the latest Mac and Windows software (1.4.177 or later).

I am way more confused than when I came in looking for answers.
I do not have IOS, I have no Apple products.. I would like a midi trigger that I can run into my PC with.
If this can do that, then I assume all programming could be done through my host VSTi.
With no Apple products.. can I get this product, open the box, attach it to guitar, and use it as a general midi trigger in a Windows system without issue?

This is nice! I'm so close to getting an FTP, but I'm very curious: is FTP really more accurate than the Midi Guitar 2 app? A lot of people say that this app is nearly as accurate as the FTP, but I assume they only tried the app on an electric guitar, and that it wouldn't compare as well on an acoustic. As I do only play on acoustic, I think I will be better off with the FTP than with Midi Guitar 2. Could you please give it a try and compare it? The app is free (in demo mode which would be enough to compare). Thank you.
TriplePlay will be more accurate than MIDI Guitar 2 when playing chords, and will track faster in general. This is because it uses divided pickup technology. But, you have to mount the TriplePlay pickup and controller on your guitar, while MIDI Guitar 2 can just work directly on the audio from your guitar.

The guitar must use steel strings, because the pickup is magnetic. Bronze acoustic guitar strings will work because they have a steel core. Nylon strings will not work.
Looks intriguing for sure! Me wonders though, can it be used as an effective polyphonic midi controller on PC? I’m thinking specifically in terms of strumming, and using guitar sample libraries, such as the “Evolution Steel Strings” by OrangeTreeSamples. This is a gadget that I would definitely love to review on Reviewer’s Revival. ;)

Im not trying to be negative, but this would have so much potential iff...... it was wireless, and it was a vst that worked with other vst's to hook upto guitar simulators for modeling and recording. I hope my feed back here is helping 🤔🤔
So I've used the first Fishman TriplePlay for several years. That unit is wireless. Today, I downloaded the new app bundled into the TP Connect, and plugged the USB dongle into my iPad. Worked just fine.
So, given that you already have bought into Fishman's controller approach, you can get this wireless.

Can this be incorporated into my pedalboard for a live show?
Hi, Joey. The TriplePlay is designed to let you control virtual instruments in your computer with your guitar. The audio would be coming out of your computer so it wouldn't really work directly with a pedalboard unless you wanted to somehow route the computer audio through your pedals. That could be done but it will take some different conversion boxes to make the signal something that will work with standard stompboxes.

@@soaresoare2033 No, Fishman offers software for Mac, Windows, and iPad. The Lenovo M10 Tablet runs Android which we currently don't offer software for. But if you have MIDI synths on your Android tablet, you can likely still use the TriplePlay controller. You should be able to simply plug it in; although you will need an adapter, and the exact adapter depends on the exact model of the M10. If you have a M10 Smart Tablet you need a USB C to USB A adapter, and if it is an M10 Tablet you need a micro USB to USB A adapter. If you are a unsure about installing MIDI synths on your Android device, then I recommend that you try to get use of a Macintosh, Windows computer, or iPad and use the Fishman software.

@@adgtr383 Hi Pog Guitar, yes I develop software for Fishman, and try to answer questions about TriplePlay when I see them. Playing sax on the TriplePlay system, especially if you are using a modeling synth, should work pretty well. It requires clean technique and proper setup to get the best results (for example, the MIDI bend range of the TriplePlay controller needs to match the bend range of the receiving synth, and if the TriplePlay is set to "Mono Mode" the receiving synth needs to handle multi-channel MIDI). For realistic sax emulation you might want to add a breath controller.
I'm just confused by this pickup. Is it different in any way than the last triple play pickup? Is the only difference the software? Anybody know the answer to my question? How come no demos answer this, man?
Hello! Yes, the primary difference is that the TriplePlay Connect is designed specifically for use with iOS devices, whereas the full TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Pickup is designed for use with Mac or PC DAW's. It's also a bit more streamlined, but their functionality/design is very similar, just the difference in application.

I saw this same question from you on another video, and I replied there as well. There is a way for you to register your new TriplePlay Connect even though you did not receive a registration code. When you fill out the form for creating a new account, carefully read the instructions below the box that asks for registration code. Yes, both the Connect TriplePlay controller and the wireless version work with any DAW software (except Pro Tools on Windows) or standalone virtual instrument.

@@rossbyron TriplePlay controller works best/easiest with DAW software that has multi-channel MIDI tracks, such as Logic, Reaper, Cubase, Reason, Garage Band, and so on. DAW software that only supports one channel per MIDI track, such as Studio One, Live, etc. can sometimes create some additional steps in your workflow, but it can be made to work. Contact Fishman support if you get stuck, or go to the TriplePlay section of the VGuitar forum for lots of helpful info. Somebody there created a tool to make it easier to use TriplePlay with Live, for example.

I can't seem to find an answer to this question: WHAT is the difference between Triple Play and Triple Play Connect, aside from $150 and a wire? Does it work with windows, and does it come with the same software and libraries? Anybody?
Hi, Steve. The main difference between the two is the wireless connectivity of the Triple Play. It's quite a bit more expensive to do a wireless system and rechargeable batteries vs. a wired USB Bus powered system. Other than that, they are basically the same, so it really just comes down to whether or not you want to be wireless or not.

Fishman has recently streamlined the differences, so that the software offerings for TriplePlay Connect and TriplePlay wireless are now essentially identical. Either version will work equally well with Mac, Windows, or iPad. The differences are, wireless vs wired, rechargeable battery for wireless only, a few more controls available on the wireless version, Connect version is more compact and cheaper.
@@sweetwater This is incorrect information. The TriplePlay Connect WILL send MIDI to ANY device that accepts USB MIDI, including Mac, Windows, and Android devices. The TriplePlay Connect comes with both a lightning and USB cable allowing you to connect to an iPad or any other device that accepts USB MIDI, and this includes the Kenton MIDI USB to MIDI Din host box.

TriplePlay Connect was specially designed to be able to plug right in to an iPad via Lightning, and the marketing emphasis is about how easy it is to get it up and running on iPad with the Fishman Connect iOS app. But it ships with both a Lightning cable and a normal USB cable, and it works as a standard USB MIDI controller compatible with almost everything.
The latest version (1.4.177 available here: www.fishman.com/support/tripleplay-updates/) of the TriplePlay software for Mac and Windows is compatible with the Connect controller. Note that the 3rd party plugin bundle is not provided with Connect, but you can use your own VST plugins. You don't actually need to use the TP software except one time to adjust the sensitivity of each string. In summary, using Connect with iPad is simplest, but it can work with almost anything, although with a bit more complexity. I would be happy to try to answer more questions for you here, or you can head over to the TriplePlay section of the VGuitar forums for a great technical resource. Hope this helps!

The app is iOS only but I'm pretty sure the midi pickup is seen as a standard midi device and should work on anything device that supports standard usb midi devices. I'll find out next week because I ordered one with the intent on using it with my windows PC and VST midi instruments.

I am pretty happy with it. Windows can see it no problem. It is just a standard USB midi interface. I added a new generic midi keyboard in studio one and it worked with my vst's no problem. Tracking is very fast and feels real good. Bends and whammy bar stuff works really poorly, but it might be a setup issue. Everything else feels pretty good. The sensitivity varies a little though, so it is clear that the sensitivity needs adjustment since the radius of the pickup is smaller than my neck, I cant have all 6 strings the same distance from the pickup. Fishman have already said they do plan to update the windows software to support the connect in the future, so it is just a matter of time I think before we can tweak the firmware settings. I tried the current version of the windows software and it didn't see the connect. The 2 buttons and the volume wheel send standard midi commands too, I was able to map the volume wheel in studio one, but not the buttons because they send program change packets and I haven't figured out how to make use of that in studio one. So overall, I am happy with it, it works good enough for studio use and what I want to do with it. It's good enough I'm not gonna send it back, I'ma keep it.

It might be worth mentioning they haven't updated the software yet for windows, but someone from fishman did say they are still working on it last week. Can you create a MIDI file with this? As in, record a song and save it to MIDI format, so then, for instance, you are able to open it on Guitar Pro?

It doesn't look like there is a way to record a midi track in the TriplePlay app directly, but you can record a midi track with this in a DAW like Pro Tools, Studio One, etc. And you could export that to other programs like Guitar Pro. Well, i dont recommend this thing. I bought it. It works with VSTs....kinda. finally had the bending string problem out of the way, but its still so clunky like all other controllers. Garbage. Unless you like to play a damn sax on your guitar. Because thats why i learned to play guitar...to play cheap saxophone on it...

I dare all guitar-to-MIDI-controller-type device promoters to show how well it does tracking of basic 6-string rhythm guitar strumming (perhaps you want to control acoustic guitar sounds with your electric guitar - that's what I want it for. I don't own an acoustic guitar and don't want to buy one).

The tracking is essentially identical to the wireless version. You can think of it as a cheaper version with wired connection. I manage the software and firmware development of this product, and the goal was to make it equally capable but at an entry-level price.

Great till you try to download the Native Instruments then you get sent round in circles trying to sign in when your already signed in, then you try and another da and hey I have to re set my password again. I didn't know that re setting my password over and over again was a feature of the package and not being able to get hold of the so called Native Instruments that were offered free as part of the package.

Yes, our new app is iPad only. But the hardware works with anything that supports USB MIDI, just like the wireless version. And you can use any USB to MIDI hardware (such as our FC-1 pedal) to connect to virtually any hardware synth ever made. And soon you will be able to use it with our Mac and Windows software/plugin if you are an advanced user.
The tracking seems very good, indeed, the app sounds... well... they're so conventional. A midi guitar that cannot play with the many modern vst plugins is a nonsense imho. Is this setup available for iPad users only? (really??) I do not understand why such a good midi tracking device has been limited so much in terms of sounds: this makes no sense.
according to the fishman website "TriplePlay Connect also works as a MIDI controller for Mac and PC apps and sound libraries." so it should work as a standard midi controller. It seems like they are really pushing the ipad angle, which I think is selling it short. I think they should emphasize that it is a full on midi controller and the ipad app should just be a side note.
I never got on with the triple play....I wonder if the tracking is better on this? Jamstick are releasing a new product too.
Laughing Buffaloes This set up doesn't allow even a standard Mod Wheel behaviour. So, I could use this just to play notes, beside a modern midi controller with knobs, faders, wheels.
About the iPad software: it sound cheap and super conventional, not attractive at all, and has no sound design features, which is a silly and blind strategy. Maybe they look for customers of two decades ago... I cannot understand why they released such an outdated concept.
M. G. Krøger IOS is an amazing platform for musicians with thousands of professional sounding apps. The iPad opened a new world of music production possibilities. You should give it a try. It will blow your mind. I have used many PC and Mac applications to produce music before and now I use it all together.

They are definitely pushing the app but there's no reason at all you couldn't use the pickup for whatever software you've got on your computer. Is it better than a midi keyboard controller, like you're describing? I think it depends on how comfortable you are playing keyboard
You lost me at double sided tape.
FYI, it is not ordinary double-sided tape. We use industrial-grade tape that we have found to be reliable, removable and reasonably safe for your instrument. Always insure that your instrument finish is in good shape and clean before attaching. I would not recommend attaching it to raw wood, such as Willy Nelson's Trigger :)
how else would u attach the pickup to the body of the guitar? by drilling holes in it and screwing the bracket on? i think not
If it isn't for android how are most people supposed to use it? IOS is getting rarer because apple is trash. Is apple paying off these companies?
Um iPad os and iOS are great, apple is doing amazingly well in this market, Android sucks in this aspect

Look at any louis rossman videos to see how they build these devices to slow down and fail on purpose to force you to buy new products. As far as software, apple slows down your old phone and claims it is to keep your battery life the same. They have been sued numerous times for this. Their software is pure trash.
