Awesome review and demo Leon..
i smell some " in app " purchases, in the future, from Fishman of sample library's and music genre packs...
which is an awesome thing indeed.
Great video the sounds are amazing. Great video man!
"No laptop!" I know what Leon needs for Christmas! Cool Vid!
Thanks for sharing brother!
Be Well Leon!
*anything but another lump of coal*
I can't wait to get the TriplePlay... I've got a YRG MIDI guitar and love it, but you have to treat it like another instrument rather than a guitar in a lot of ways, would love to bridge the gap a bit closer.
Now that is something different! Cool! I saw a bass guitar in the list. Could you demo that selection using your electric? Really interesting product to spark ideas and get guitar players out of their comfort zone to try new things. Great video. 👍
Gee thinking of biting the bullet for on of these. I have and old Roland gr09 and have had a lot of fun over the years adding strings, brass, keys, etc.
WoW! A cool soundtrack, gamer album in a few days. Though in my case it would take a year! I’m still playing my cables blues, metal & oldies channel as my PC generation to solo to.
Great piece of gear. If not considered gear, I apologize.
Cheers
It's only now I realise I could have played "The Lick" for every audio example here.
@@circulargates7949 I've got an old Roland VG-8 kicking around and the TP definitely feels like the evolution of the GK thing with roland. Super cool!
@@circulargates7949 the Kronos is a BEAST. I'd love to grab something like that for the studio but at this stage soft synths get the job done.
@Leon Todd your welcome here facebook.com/groups/FishmanTriplePlay/
Cool. Can you also midi out with it, so that you can trigger sounds from a hardware synth?
John Mclaughlin has used the laptop for years. I just saw on the USA Shakti concerts he’s updated the pickup to a small one. Oil. I do have iPad Pro but no laptop.
Thank you so much! It´s a very nice demo. Very useful. Allow me just a question. Is it posible to create a pedal steel guitar sound? Do I needed to buy it apart or is it included? Warmest regards and thanks
Thanks-:) I am trying to decide which sort of midi pick up would be ideal for me so I can speed up homerecording workflow.I should have been more patient. You might of answered my question at the end of your video. So maybe I buy this. I mostly want it for homerecording.Using it live would just be extra. Thanks-:)
vguitarforums was useful for new users to get acquainted. I’ve had it for a couple years and learned you don’t need Fishman software plugin, necessarily. You don’t need their synths. You can use the FTP with anything. It’ll play drums. Anything. And you don’t need their plug-in. It looks like it’s built for children.
There are sensitivity controls, in their software app, and that will adjust the number of stray notes that come with misfret stings. It is tracking all of your movements, the sensitivity is crucial.
After that, you can play all your synths real time, record the MIDI, record the audio that tracks from the synths, or exclude data tracking such as for use live.
Velocity, probably the most important aspect, will allow you to hear all of your samples in new detail. Sample libraries include everything from soft to hard hit instruments. Nice to hear a Rhodes keyboard come to life and break up in distortion, for example.
I love it.
I know that this video is old now but I just want to point out the IOS app is a nifty toy but a fuill on DAW makes it insane. Possibilities are endless.
Question: you can make every string sound like a different thing, correct? Is it possible to make specific strings silent?
I've owned a Fishman for a few years and a Godin Synth Access guitar before that. Try doubling your lead guitar with a Taurus bass pedal sound
à la Geddy Lee for early 80s Rush fun. Mellotron tones make me all misty as a King Crimson fan from way back. Good as my Fishman is it still doesn't do guitar bends and vibrato but the synth in Axe Fx III does and it tracks really well. Maybe do a video on that. Always enjoy your videos Leon.
the taurus sound is one of my top 3 synth sounds of all time thanks to old Geddy./\
Does it work with Propellerhead Reason? Also I play left handed (left handed models, not hendrix style). Will this make any difference? i assume not but want to be sure
This is nice! I'm so close to getting an FTP, but I'm very curious: is FTP really more accurate than the Midi Guitar 2 app? A lot of people say that this app is nearly as accurate as the FTP, but I assume they only tried the app on an electric guitar, and that it wouldn't compare as well on an acoustic. As I do only play on acoustic, I think I will be better off with the FTP than with Midi Guitar 2. Could you please give it a try and compare it? The app is free (in demo mode which would be enough to compare). Thank you.
Hello Leon, that’s a really great review! Do you have recommendations on how to integrate the TriplePlay into a standard guitar rig (like using the FX return of a guitar amp)? Cheers
I'd recommend some kind of mixer or A/B box in that setup
14:00 or so - the unison riff stuff reminded me of some of Frank Zappa's stuff....
I bought one of these to use with my mac and not with the ipad app. The one I bought was the wired one. Setting it up was very simple. My issue was that I didn't get on with it but the same happened to me with the software Midi Guitar 2, so it must be something with my way of playing. It didn't respond as I imagined it. Again, it might have just been me because other people don't seem to have issues so... One thing I really want is to have one of my electric guitar using Nylon strings, so I'm looking for pickup choices etc. There's no pedals I know or guitar effects that will make electric guitar strings sound like a nylon guitar. That would be great!!!! :)
Plz help… *For live performance.. Can you run guitar rig with the tripleplay (wireless)? Separately or mixed/blended?
Also, where or how does the sound of Tripleplay come from? Studio monitors or is there a way to go through amp?
Thank you in advance 🙏🏼
Hi Leon question how you connected your guitar usual effect pedals and the midi pickup to the iPad at the same time ?
Nice. It looks like it tracks very well. NI has been doing great soft synths a long time as well as great modeling. Definitely interested in this for the easy connection. Big fan of iPad music and a ton of great synth apps, Mixing apps, drum apps that are matured in implementation and latency with iOS is very low. Great response.
Yeah the tracking and latency is great. Haven't tried it with any other iPad synths other than what's in Garageband but it works a treat there too.
@Leon Todd - definitely interested in seeing more content with this. It's great that you are interested in synths and utilizing the guitar to explore the synth world. I'm definitely a better guitar player than a keyboard player but enjoy playing keys too. Now they have keyboard controllers with isomorphic layout (like guitar) so if you are good with chords on guitar and scales, you can play them on the keyboard. Roger Linn's Linnstrument controller is setup in isomorphic layout and so is the Synthstrom Deluge. I don't have the Linnstrument, but do have a Deluge. It's an interesting approach to playing keys that a guitar player can understand. The Midi pickup and actual guitar is of course the easiest for a guitarist to get. Great stuff.
@@vondragonnoggin I just got Audiokit Synth one for my iPad (which is free!) and it's blowing my mind with the TriplePlay. The Linnstrument is a bucket list item for me, looks so, so cool.
@@LeonTodd Hi Leon. I bought a Triple Play & FC-1 foot controller almost 3 years ago but pretty much gave up on it. The mounting of the pickup & main unit was easy but if I remember correctly, I couldn't get very many of the synth sounds even after having installed all the free software. I'd like to give it any try and your video has been much more helpful than any Fishman put out.
Are yoy still using the unit on a regular basis,
How are the guitar models on the app?
I’m looking to replace my SY-1000 but I love the guitar models on that unit, and I’ve seen some older videos where the guitar modeling seems aweful and like it’s stuck in the 90s.
GREAT video but Where ARE the pitch bend options? I can’t find them and I get chromatic notes in a pitch bend only.
Does it work with Propellerhead Reason? Also I play left handed (left handed models, not hendrix style). Will this make any difference? i assume not but want to be sure
Hi Leon, I've been looking for something that can reproduce the Andy Summers pad sound; can this do it?
Great demo. Does it track well when strumming? Cheers.
If you turn on "Monitor Hand Position" it will track strumming open chords well.
awesome =) in a strange coincidence i just bought one of these the other week, attached to my strat, using it as a controller in say Ableton , which is really cool, translating guitar style playing to other instruments/sounds
out of interest what sort of sensitivity across the strings did you settle on? did that take a long time to tweak?
on mine the radius on fishman pickup means the D / G string are considerably closer than the other strings, took a little while to get things right, picking everything helps a lot
Like you I just had to get the D and G balanced out but it was more or less plug and play. I need to try this with the Ableton looper, just been getting into Ableton and it's so, so, SO fun.
awesome =) if you want some pointers / help with the ableton stuff let me know , you can use Ableton midi effects to enhance/effect the response of the Triple play
there's a midi gate for example, where you can have it ignore midi notes under a certain velocity, which can be useful
@@paulbradshawguitar I don't know how/why I didn't get into Ableton earlier, it's stuff like that that just makes me so pumped to dive into it.
it's a blast, i got into it last year, making 80s synth vibe sort of music, been investing in oldschool hardware synths the past couple of months, my living room is a mess of midi and audio cables with controllers now =0 i still play guitar but ableton/electronic music has become my focus now, plugins/vsts are an expensive habit as well
soundcloud.com/airship81/walkway
the clip mode is incredible, essentially lots of different loops that you can arrange/rearrange as you see fit , and you can get pretty wacky creative with effects/routings and all that
i'm pretty sure you can use all that axe fx programming to great effect =)
Paul B you mean to say there’s no midi gate included in it’s own software settings??
i tripped over the cable and pulled out the high and low string sensors. i miss it in a big way. i did a massive cello track. amaszing horn tracks. banjo. piano. endless possibilities. can't afford to replace it. :(
Noooo!
Hello! I watched the video with interest. I want to buy a triple play fischmann like the one you presented. You convinced me. I have 2 questions. 1. to have a latency as small as possible can I use an android tablet or an ipad? 2 Is it possible to use a wireless system instead of cable? Thank you
The standard triple play is wireless, this one isn't
@4:11 there are false triggers...watch the fretboard play notes you’re not fretting,,,,this would have messed the look of my notation. Can you set it up to ignore these false, double note triggers? Thanks
Should I get this for recording iMac
Sirve para sintetizadores rolan y así tirar la gk a la basura
Did you run into any tracking issues? Looks like it plays pretty clean. Did you have to make any adjustments?
I tweaked the d and g string sensitivity but otherwise it was plug and play
Nice, gonna check it out
Have you tried it with an acoustic guitar yet? I'd be interested to know if it would work with nylon strings as well as steel. Great review - thanks!
It won't work with nylon strings, but it will work on acoustic steel string.
so I can use 3rd party vst's like positive grid, native instruments etc?
How do you use the foot controller with the ipad setup?
I've always wondered what Eddie V would have done if this tech was around when he started out. I bet you it would have been amazing.
Eddie Valiant? Of Valiant & Valiant Detective Agency? That's an odd question, I'm not even sure he plays guitar. I heard a toon dropped a piano on his brother's head though, so at least one of the family was deeply affected by music.
I'll let myself out thanks
@@rickfeith6372 Eye roll. Good one, amigo.
How do you switch octaves?? An octave button like you have on any midi keyboard.
If you are using the Connect iPad app, you can assign the up and down buttons to do what you want.
Leon, I'm an old man and not all that tech savvy, How do you go live with an Ipad? are you Mic'ing it or are you going through another computer? I need to know so I can use the connect in church.
Run the iPad headphone out to the mixer using a stereo cable
Does it work on iphone?
Epic
Have you tried a usb to midi adapter for sending the din I/o directly to a synth?
It will work with a "USB MIDI Host" such as Kenton, or the Fishman FC-1
could you connect to a hardware synth via 5-pin midi? Do you need to get an extra adapter?
You need an adapter - they make a foot controller which converts to midi
wait a minit, no wireless option
??
11:18 or so, total '70s vibe....
I have the play and having problems setting it up and sensitivity? Can this be used Ona Mac ? Is it free with triple play ? Ta
The free app lets you fine tune the sensitivities.
Sir Will TriplePlay connect work with computer if yes then is this same app which can be used to connect with computer
Sure will.
Does it have a high amount of latency?
Is it from picking to the signal to the sound less than 30 ms?
2 ms. AFAIK - Above 6ms. is the critical time... FWIW
Does this pickup still work with computer programs or is it just made for the iOS app?
You can plug it straight into your computer and use it to trigger soft synths
Which triple play software are you using? I looks nothing like the triple play software I have except that they both show a fretboard looks more user friendly. The one I have is definitely not. Bought is around 3 or 4 years ago. Oh well I finally notice that you are using a different device called triple play connect.
The iPad software
@@LeonTodd Thanks, for rapid reply. Nice Demo videos. Keep em coming mate.
Is there an Android version of this app?
NO
How do you amplifi the pad if your going into pad via USB plug how do you get this into your live show with band?
I use the headphone out
@@LeonTodd Cool Thx
How’s the latency? Doesn’t look to bad
Pretty good! It's more about getting used to the trying to play a bit less "guitar like" than anything else
Is there a decent acoustic guitar sound? Does it track rhythm guitar ("campfire chords") strumming OK? It would save carrying around an acoustic guitar - in addition to an electric guitar, if so.
If you turn on "Monitor Hand Position" it will track strumming open chords well. But it uses MIDI, so it can't sound any better than the virtual instrument you are triggering.
@@mrjteele do you know any excellent acoustic guitar software instruments? Thanks!
My Triple Play has been screwed up ever since I upgraded to ver 1.4 but I’m old. ‘probably need a 16 year old to reset it up for me. : (
Contact Fishman support and they should be able to help you
So you need a laptop for live performances?
You can connect it to your iPad, or you can connect it to the Fishman FC that converts the signal to midi.
Ah ok I'll try to research for fishman fc, thank you 😊😊😊
14:39
keyboard players are obsolete now.
every other musician is obsolete now!
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to run this thing and have no audible latency..? I assume Fishman would not release a product that was incapable of
This has to be the best synth for the money my friend might be buying a gr55 Roland and this makes it look like a jumbo mess and a waste of money
