    The fact that you can assign artificial tuning to each string is a great feature, as you can implement whatever odd tuning you like (e.g. Fripp’s New Standard Tuning) without restringing to custom gauges or wrecking your axe’s setup.

    Regarding notation: For tracking the chords as they you should use the "multi-channel guitar" option in 32:49 as it then assigns each string to a different channel which should result into the right frets. Can you try that and give feedback if it makes tracking better?

    Well well this looks familiar.
    It didn't take long before the whole thing was taken apart and parts were being re-modified. :D
    There are two kinds of people.
    Others will read the manual and come to the realization that it doesn't fit and contact the retailer.
    Then there's the ones who just do and make it work.

    Thanks man! I've been looking around for about 45 minutes trying to ascertain what's the difference is between the Triple Play and Triple Play Connect, other than $150 and a wire. Fishman sure as fuck doesn't want to tell me, nor do Sweetwater or the other usual suspects. So I've subscribed to your channel, given this video a big thumbs UP and thrown the rest of 'em the middle finger. Cheers!

      At Fishman we have recently revised things so that Connect and Wireless are essentially interchangeable expect for the wireless features and different number of controls and buttons. Either one can be used with the Mac/Windows software, or the Connect iPad app. Previously we charged you $20 to unlock the iPad app for wireless users, but now that option is free. Previously we did not supply the Mac/Win software to Connect customers, but now it is included, even if you purchased in the past.

    I love about this review is it exposes the other side of the glossy sales pitch demos that would have you think everything is roses from start to finish in real time. I don't need products that involve lots of swearing to get it to work and some of the comments reinforce that. I found myself irritated just watching your irritation trying to get it together. I could see myself wrestling with that. No thanks. I'll check out a few other midi guitar items and see if they fair any better. Thanks for the review!

    I enjoyed your video. The TP software you are using appears to be the original Triple Play for wireless version so I can see how you didn't have any instruments on your install; and that particular software does require a code to operate so I'm surprised it worked at all. : ) I have had the original Triple Play wireless version since around 2014. it worked great until I did a factory update and has been screwed up ever since. Lots of tail chasing instrument software updates and authorization codes. I also just recently (Jan '21) installed the Triple Play Connect software for the iPad which I hoped would be a fix for me. The Triple Play wireless setup does work with the new Connect software but of TP Connect software looks very entry level, has limited plug in's and I yet to see where or if you can save presets or set lists. That being said I am not midi savvy so still muddling along.

    Thank you for this video. Can you tell me whether I can use the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI also with iPhone (not iPad)? I'd expect it to run with any Bluetooth MIDI compatible device, so it should work with iPhone too, right?

    • @mrjteele
      @mrjteele Před 4 lety

      It does not use Bluetooth. It uses a proprietary wireless protocol with a small dedicated receiver dongle, which has a USB A connector, so for iPhone you would need an adaptor, USB A to Apple Lightning. Although some third-party adaptors work, your best bet is to use an Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter ($30), or an Apple Lightning to USB3 camera adapter ($40) which allows charging of the phone during use. If your phone doesn't have a headphone jack, then you might connect a USB hub to the Lightning adaptor, then connect the TriplePlay to the hub along with some sort of audio interface or similar solution. The Fishman Connect app only works on iPad, but you can use the TriplePlay controller with the iPhone with any iOS synth. Hope this helps!

    can you change tuning inside of the Fishman app? Like individually manipulate pitch of each string?

    • @mrjteele
      @mrjteele Před 3 lety +1

      In the Mac/Windows TriplePlay app, for sounds that are "Mono Mode" i.e. separate MIDI channel per-string, and using synths that support combis/multis, the answer is yes, because you can edit the sounds in the combis/multis to adjust the tuning however you would like. In the iPad app, no. But in any case you can re-tune your guitar, (if you have "Monitor Hand Position" set to On, also tell the app how you have it tuned,) and it will follow. You can bend each string independently.

  • @davidjoy2951
    @davidjoy2951 Před 4 lety +1

    Hey bro ,the reason the plugin doesn't work in Cubase [and why it says 'Looking for Receiver' ] is because that software
    is actually for the TriplePlay Wireless pick up. I guess you figured that out already.

    • @sonicwingnut
      @sonicwingnut  Před 4 lety

      I think you commented on my update already! But yeah it DOES work as a VSTi, it's just it uses 2 discrete MIDI devices - Cubase automatically adds 'em, so it by default disables the VST app as it won't work if something else is using it. Thankfully it only needs one of those 2 MIDI inputs (the second one), so if you set your DAW to use MIDI device 1 for direct-to-DAW MIDI input, you can simultaneously use MIDI Device 2 for the Triple Play plugin. You can have multiple instances too, but you have to tell whatever instance you're using to take control.
      Like you said none of the factory sounds are available outside the iOS app, but that doesn't matter if you got a big bunch of VST instruments instead.

    Nice vid bro-:) I think I'll have to get one. I mostly want to use it for the purpose of having the easy editing possibilities that midi can give you. For example if I record something and somebody asks me to change the key,basically transpose the song I can do it without recording the whole fucking song again. My workflow: I record myself playing metal/rock guitar and then I try to play bass and program drums. So as long as I can get a good rock/metal sound and edit the midi notes I am in. All the crazy sounds are just extra for me to wank with-:) Thanks for any feedback.

    • @GG-xg2be
      @GG-xg2be Před 3 lety

      I tried this out on a Jazzmaster Baritone 30” scale in Bass VI tuning. It wouldn’t register the bottom two strings (Low E and Low A) at all. I’m not sure if this is because of the low register, the thick string gauge, or both.
      So if I had to guess based on my own experience, your low A wouldn’t track at all; while the other 5 strings might be track fine.

    • @sonicwingnut
      @sonicwingnut  Před 3 lety +1

      One solution if you only need the synth output is to simply transpose the MIDI output one octave down and play your synth parts an octave up on the guitar. Wouldn't work for blended guitar and MIDI though. For recording I'd just use a regular guitar but live if you're jumping between synth and regular guitar it'd work on the baritone, just play the synth bits higher up!

    • @GG-xg2be
      @GG-xg2be Před 3 lety

      @@sonicwingnut the tracking on the baritone I had was very dodgy, even playing higher on the fretboard didn’t help. There was no way I’d be comfortable playing live with all the tracking errors it made.
      For live purposes, I ended up putting the fishman triple play on a Line 6 Variax. It’s the best solution for this exact use case right now. The triple play works flawlessly on the Variax because the physical tuning is in standard, with 10 gauge strings, and a 24.75 in scale length- though you can manipulate tunings that the guitar outputs through the Variax controls.
      I’ve tried the Drop pedal and it just couldn’t perform like I needed it to. This solution will do until some mad genius comes up with something for this niche market

    • @Exavolt
      @Exavolt Před 3 lety

      @@sonicwingnut Good thinking! Also, I could also see if I can get it to cover the higher strings as I play baritone 7s, as in, place to it cover the 1~6th strings and have no hexaphonic pickup under the lowest string. wonder how well that'd work. Also yeah, I'd be using it for live for sure!

    • @Exavolt
      @Exavolt Před 2 lety

      @@SynthStreak I was going to use it bass synth parts live for our songs so we didn't have to run backing tracks, so they would have been significantly slower than the heavy guitar bits. we play more of a modern metalcore sound with alot of heavy synth stuff going on so the synths are way slower then guitars. never got it though because we're in drop A and this unit can't do that according to fishman.
