The ribbon cable part.... DUDE!!!!!!! What a great way to do this
Glad you like it Ben! I thought it was a neat idea too.
Neat!?!? It's genius!
@@DreadMakerRoberts Okay.... it's genius.
I'm in the process of making my own scratch built pack as well, and my gOD your DIY ribbon cable is gonna save me SO much moolah!
Buy his plans book it is one of the best creative investments you'll ever make.
"I did" and everything it offers will fill your
Your creative world with endless possibilities. Top Notch stuff! 😜👍👍
Yeah, that is the only DIY ribbon cable that looks good that I've ever seen. Will 100 percent be using that technique
This is added to my list of "gonna make this one day!!" Looks good. I sure hope you and your family are doing good and whatever "came up" is something good for you all!
Thank you.
@@LostWax can I buy one from you? If so how much would it cost. Thanks!
Same here
@@shozinryu4 just make it yourself it's more fun
The pack looks amazing! It is very authentic to the look of the original movie packs. If I had this video a few years ago, I would have happily done this, instead of buying a vacuformed shell and all the associated bits and bobs for my proton pack.
I'm sure the cast of the original films would had loved to have this light weight packs while they were filming the non action moments. I really would love to either make one of these or even buy them done. The quality is just outstanding ❤️👍
I'm with you
would be nice if he took commissions
The ribbon cable idea is genius
Simply amazing. I’m going to Comic-Con as a ghostbuster and this was an absolute life-saver! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
A free template? Are you... a god?
Pretty sure I'm not:)
minus the elevator music your videos are always great !!!
I spend so little time in elevators nowadays, I just need to get my fix:) Maybe I should install one in my house....
It’s builds like these that make me realize how inept I am. Fantastic job
Okay, so you _did_ mention the Neutrino Wand, so you _do_ have plans to make that. Good. Great.
Glad I watched to the end _before_ saying you had forgotten the gun part of the proton pack.
Not forgotten, I'm just slow:)
This is soo good. I made an EVO/Floor foam Ghost trap a few years ago and this make me want to make a complete pack that way.
You cant go wrong with Chris he's a genius at this stuff, I invested in his plans book and from a creative standpoint its one of the best investments I've made. Great stuff! Love how he makes rivets from 2 part epoxy so simple yet so realistic. 😜👍👍
Love this build, excellent choice for the busters with back problems :)
You are a legend. Impeccable work.
Wow, thanks!
I could almost hear the self-high-five over "hand drill" :P
Fantastic work! :D
Hehe.
1:32 - Mick Jagger liked that. XD
Great build! :) Paint job looks amazing. I tried finding the pattern in the Ultimate Everything Super Value Bundle i bought, but it wasn't there. No problem though as i later saw it was a free pattern on its own. Nice of you to share it with everyone :)
Glad you found it! Sorry if that was a bit confusing!
Just stumbled across these vids. AMAZING!!!
Wow, wow…WOW. I am at a loss for words. I scratch built a pack from wood years ago, and this is one of the most impressive builds I’ve seen. I want to try this for sure.
Wow, thank you!
Without a doubt the most inventive proton pack scratch build out there. Totally inspired to make one now!
Thank you, you should go for it!
That was very cool! You should consider a job in the movies. This project has inspired me to want to make two for my young son and I for Halloween. Please continue with the wand video whenever you can. I'd still like to see your results. Thanks!
I have seen this video about 10 times already and still find it interesting which means I love this channel!!!
Looks great! Awesome paint job! Also legit impressed you made your own ribbon cable. That's something you don't see every day... ;)
I was originally trying to find an old grey printer cable, but no one has them around anymore. I'm glad they didn't cause this has a better vibe anyways!
WOW!!! Ok this is amazing and as a HUGE Ghostbusters fan without a pack, this is how I will finally do it. I can't wait to follow the rest of the build. I have the wand already from Mattel and the Spengler’s Neutrona Wand, so I might use one of those instead of building it from scratch.
Snap!!! I have the Spengler wand too, I just finished cutting out all the pieces and sanded tonight. Glue commencing tomorrow. I may have to use other things for some parts, and I am having major problems finding the pipes for some reason.
Hi guys, did you get the hasbro wand to fit?! is the foam stable enough?!
My daughter's gonna love this!
My pack is a little over 40lbs. Which is why this build is definitely my next project.
Another great video for a cheap Proton Pack. Though you got quite creative with a number of the brass and angled fittings, there are still a lot of alternate read-made parts that one would find in the plumbing section of a hardware store that work just perfectly.
Also, if you wanted a more 'true' paint chipping method, you could first paint the entire pack (or just the main areas you need) a silver colour, then use a masking medium like liquid latex or toothpaste to mask off the chipped areas of the pack. Such as along edges and ridges that would get the most wear and tear. Then paint the entire pack black. Once dried, simply rub/wipe the spots you masked and you will reveal the silver underneath. Makes for a more realistic chipped paint look.
That's a great idea for the paint chipping, I'll have to give it a try!
I used foam board for the base on mine 1yr ago. I couldn't fine some hose to hook neutrino wand to until I found foam ninja toys at the dollar tree. The foam handles made a prefect hose after I glued them together. I like you video and it really gave me ideas to build another one. Now you need to build a ghost trap.
Glad it could give you some ideas!
Looks awesome, man! Definitely going to be building this.
Chris is an amazing fabricator of craft foam, I've made several of his creations. a Steampunk'd Dr. plague mask, top hat & goggles, a pair of his & hers steampunk'd gas masks, and verything came out awesome, I've even taken this knowledge and modified some items at my job to give them a steampunk look, my boss actually loves how they look. I definitely recommend buying his guide which includes plans of everything Chris has made over the years, I did and from a creative standpoint its one of the best investments I've made. Chris is definitely a funny & Goofy guy but a genius at recreating steampunk'd items as well as movie props. If you're a creative person you can't go wrong with this purchase. Definitely top notch stuff! 😜👍👍
@@jackvolta3489 he definitely knows his stuff. Going to have to look into getting his book
@@shanedemink2966 It's well worth the $$ you won't be sorry Shane, besides that if you buy his collection, everytime Chris comes out with a new idea, because you bought his stuff, you get it sent to you for free definitely an add-on that keeps coming. 😎👍
Yeah. I’ve got about half of my pack made before I saw your last video…thinkin’ Im gonna switch to making yours from here on out…it’ll be like a…foam/metal/mdf/WTF proton pack. I’m here for it.
Thanks again for an absolutely stellar and refreshingly creative tutorial. 🙌🍻
Hehe, sounds perfect! Whatever works:)
Another goodie.
If you keep a small recipient with water nearby you can dip your fingers into it and smooth out hot glue to a _wonderful smooth finish_ and it is even easier on your fingers too!
I gotta try that out.
You should do a trap and pedal too
So very excited about this. Ben Eadie had been talking about making a foam version because the ones made with fiberglass and aluminum are so heavy. But you beat him and it looks fantastic! Definitely won't be attempting this before Halloween but maybe I can get one done before NEXT Halloween. Might try to add lights and sounds. Amazing as always!
Thanks Traci! Yep, you'd have to build fast for this Halloween!
Hope that what came out either is all good, or will turn out all good. Don't worry - we will wait patiently - well worth the wait! It's an amazing build!
Thanks for the patience! Much appreciated.
Adam Savage likes this
Thanks so much for the video.
My pleasure!
I need the 3rd part, this is brilliant!
Yeah, it's a bit slow coming, but I'm working on it!
Wow
This is tremendous! Thank you so much. Can’t wait to start building
Have fun!
Lookin so good. Just finished my pack build.
Nice!!
So good!
Thank you!
Amazing!!!!
Thanks!!
Thanks I’ve been trying to build one of these for years
You're welcome, I hope it helps!
THANK YOU!!!! THIS IS GREAT
You're welcome!!
Love your work and your great sense of humour.Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Absolutely awesome - thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome work! At that weight having the costume on all day would be easy and it holds up great so far. Loved the wire cable trick!
Awesome! Thank you!
Amazing! I love your videos 👍🏻🙂
Thank you so much!
Such a great build. Thank you for these videos and your plans. I appreciate the honesty of your channel
My pleasure!
Incredible work, wow!
Superb! Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Having made one out of a much heavier material I think a foamie pack would be so much easier to haul around and it looks great!
Such clean work, looks incredible. You found some awesome tricks that I never would have thought of to make some of those obscure parts.
Glad it was helpful!!
This is amazing, you did a fantastic job!!! I built a proton pack years ago out of wood, foam, and junk and it's pretty heavy, but I might make this one for a lighter feel, thanks man!!!
You're welcome!
Hey, if you only have an inkjet printer, go get some photo paper and print the stickers. Before you go touching the ink, spray it with a few thin coats of spray clearcoat. I prefer matte clear coat.
Nice tip.
In September i build one but is too heavy. This is perfection.
Glad you like it!
Definitely tempted into trying to make this! Can't wait for your neutrona wand vid!
Nice job on the ribbon cable. That's a part I still need to make, I'm going to try that method. Thanks.
Good luck! I hope it works for you!
love the video.. would love to have you on our show in November.. our Ghostbuster month
for anyone asking what this tube is at 7:41 . its a sdr 11 hose
Love this so much! I've wished to have a proton pack since I was 5, now with Afterlife I was thinking of actually getting one for a full cosplay. Just got the pattern from your store (with a very little donation, hoping to donate more to you soon :)) and will start working on this ASAP! Thanks a lot!
Aww, that's so cool, time to make those 5 year old dreams come to life❤️
this has helped with my own 3d printed build gave me some great ideas I will be getting ur plans and building some foam ones cheers dude can't wait for part 3
Glad I could help!
Im ALMOST to this video #2 on "my sons" Proton Pack (in reality he's going have to sign it out everytime he wants to play with it). Im going to use an old ruck frame so dont need that.. I really really hoping you're still doing a Neutrona wand!!
Yep, the video just went up!
hello from Brasil
amazing...
Thank you! Cheers!
Can wait to see the finals steps!!! And don´t worry it wont be for Halloween. Better release great final version when you ready! Congratulations!
You're a Legend! My Eva foam is due by Tuesday 6mm thick Hugh density. Hope 1x2 metres is enough :o
Nice!
Well then, the ghost hunting can start 😁😁😅
Wow, amazing, I love it ! : o
Holy moly!!! I'm wondering how much you've spent on materials so far... even though you go to thrift stores for some stuff...
Fantastic execution of information as well as practical supplies, kinda reminded me of The King of Random ,P.S. that bicycle ride made me laugh 😂, new subcriber here👍👍
Glad the bike ride made you laugh. It was quite a workout:)
That's a cool way to make stickers!
How much money do you think is invested in the completed proton pack? I'd like to start one but I am on a budget, too.
Have you thought about doing the Gizmo Belt?
Would be interesting to see your take on it
Never been so early in a comment
Nice work!!
Sticky tack is called kennaratyggjó or Teacher’s Gum in Icelandic
In Danish it’s called elefant snot or Elephant snot (obviously)
Wow, who knew?
That so AWESOME! Are you going to put in lights and sounds? And a neutrino wand video? I hope 🤞🏻
I'mm gonna try build the wand next. Not likely any sounds tho.
This is amazing! I'm anxiously awaiting your neutrino wand video. I'm curious what you'll be using for the clear tube
...so am I.....
man i love your videos! i just find your channel, i also have a small props and art channel where i just finished my samurai batman cosplay!
Sweet!!
I’m excited to start this build, I have a question. Would you suggest spray painting the pack or just paint it as you did in the video? Thanks
I'm not a fan of using regular spray paint, it just gives such thin coverage, it's hard to add the worn silver antiquing on top of it. If you want to spray it, you could use plastic-dip, it gives a rubbery coating that is great. Just make sure to not breathe it in when you are doing it!
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I made a proton pack following them. I e-mailed you photo’s of the result. Did you get them?
Amazing job... sell me this please lol
Lost Wax, serious question. What is the best method for hardening the foam? A couple of layers of glue and a couple coats of Plasti dip? This pack is my first ever foam build.
I don't try to harden the foam. If you put a brittle coating over it and it flexes you're just gonna get cracks. Rather try to have a flexible coating that will move with the foam.
We want part 3
Part 3 just dropped: bit.ly/alicepackframe
Do you think you could use spray paint or do you recommend acrylic paint?
I find that acrylic gives a bit more texture, which somehow makes it easier to apply the metallics without getting marks that look like fingerprints. But that being said, I haven't done tons of experimenting with spray paint.
Well done! a great guide to making an inexpensive and effective proton pack! One question: are you planning to make a guide also on the creation of the Spengler neutrino wand?
I hope so!
if you were to add the electronics to the foam pack would it catch fire because if it does not then i might build ome myself
You think this pack could work with the Hasbro Plasma Series neutrona wand?
Can I ask why the epoxy for certain parts instead of the glue gun? Is it simply a case of what will bond best to the materials, ie epoxy for anything with metal or plastics but all foam seems to be glue-gun primarily? Thanks in advance!
Yep, that's pretty much it, hot glue doesn't stick well to metal especially, and some plastics aren't that great either.
@@LostWax Thanks for the reply, good to know! And I've bought the Ultimate Everything Super Value Pattern Bundle already - AMAZING value. Can't wait to build this with my son who is nearly 5 after we finish another project - sorry I couldn't wait for the Proton Pack to be added so cheekily grabbed that too! This is such a good entry into the world of building along with cardboard for young (and young-at -heart) makers. Thanks so much!
Do you think you could add the hasbro neutrona wand to it????
Egon: There's something very important I forgot to tell you.
Peter: What?
Egon: Don't cross the streams.
Peter: Why?
Egon: It would be bad.
Peter: I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean "bad"?
Egon: Try to imagine all life as you know as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Ray: Total protonic reversal.
Peter: That's bad. Okay. Alright, important safety tip, thanks Egon.
Make the wand next
That's the plan!
If you do make those ten more proton packs, I'll take a couple off your hands. lol
Just kidding. Good job
😁
Can you tell us about the Twinkie… I mean the T Rex Tape? I don’t see it in the video description, or mentioned on your website’s “Materials/Tools Used” page. Thanks!
Very awesome!! Just wondering how much time was put into making this 🤔very well detailed , damn!! 👊😎
It's too hard to know, because I am adapting the pattern and filming at the same time, it takes me waaaay longer than it would take building straight off the pattern.
At 07:44 what is that item you are cutting to use for the wiring? I want to use that for my own Proton Pack I'm building. Thanks 👍🏾
That's a piece of tubing that used to be commonly used for sinks, like between the valve where the water comes in and the tap. You could also use something like the tube from a pen or any other small tubing you can find.
When can we see you at a convention?
I'm not sure.... I'm kinda shy, and not a big convention fan, so I have never done a con.......
i really hate to ask this but what is the outer diameter of the gray pluming connecter pipe thing
Good morning, have been watching your videos on the proton pack very closely, feeling like attempting a build, your solution to the alice pack conundrum is wonderful, have you started plans for the wand yet?
Just finishing making the wand today, then onto editing the video. Hopefully out by next Sat
@@LostWax epic! Thank you so much 👍 the alice pack pipe work blew my mind 🤯😁
@@richardpaul2241 Aww, that's cool to hear!
What size was the clamp you used? I've found something similar but in different sizes
Will it work with a 1mx1m 10mm eva foam?
