This thing is gonna be a huge leap for us.. I'm happy that Uniden slow-rolled the release in order to feel comfortable with the tech working properly
It’s all about the tech support. ALP always seems to be one step ahead of the gun mfg countering any changes to their anti jamming software as quickly as it comes out. I’m sceptical that Uniden can match that.
meanwhile, 99% of cops are too lazy to use laser in some states, so they're definitely not upgrading guns

Those antennas are insanely big (deep) due to what i expect the combination of radar and laser. That will make install MUCH harder.

It's done well in beta testing, but now that we're getting final firmware sent over, we're arranging another set of laser testing to see how it fares.

Vortex thanks for the video, I am a Uniden fan for sure. I am going to yank out my TMGs and have this one installed. I did not have time to watch all of your video but will later. I was wondering when it is coming out and the price which I am sure you covered.
When leveling the laser jammer heads, make sure that the vehicle is also on level ground.
Would there be interference to run ALP as well as this system with the uniden jammers? Primarily to have the integrated radar from uniden. Or will they sell the system for only radar without the jammers?
How does it feel?
I'm curious if the casings and weight make it feel cheap in the way the Uniden windshield mount detectors do in comparison to some others. I know, you wouldn't be touching much of this (aside from control panel) often, but I'm still curious as the cheap feeling of the Uniden windshield mounts is one of their least attractive qualities IMO.
At expected price point for the R9 I would be disappointed if it feels as cheap as their windshield mounts, even if performance was exceptionally good and unmatched.

Hello, I live in a country which is very illegal to use detectors. So is this pretty much undetectable? and can I use it without the jammers? because I will get pulled over once my speed shows up 0 in their detectors. Thanks

The R8 has an "Accessory" port on one side. I thought I read somewhere that this is intended for the laser jammer. Do you know if/when Uniden will sell a "laser only" system to plug into the R8?

Will this radar detector work properly if it is used together with the thinkware u1000 with radar module or the u3000 with the built-in radar module???
Yes. Thinkware’s radar only transmits while parked, not while driving, so you can have both in your car. If someone else with an R9 drives past your parked car, they’ll get a false, but that’s about it. You can run both in your car without issue.

Jammers aren't illegal to own or sell in TX, but you're not allowed to operate them. Just like you're not allowed to speed. If operated properly, in the majority of instances, it would be very difficult to make a charge stick.
A heads up for people interested in buying and then taking it to a shop to have it installed. Any reputable shop won’t install equipment that you didn’t purchase through them.
So it ships with a laser jammer by default? Can you ask them to just sell it separately because I want the best of the best, R9 and ALP, not both uniden.

The states that ban these are numerous and the ones that don't will within a few years. If you drive around the country, this would be nearly impossible to have on your car without getting a ticket.

It's 2023. Do we really have to see horrific sights like a line of 10 RJ11 slots? Is there any logistical reason why USB-C couldn't work? Just cost? At least be consistent with the the "extinct technologies" theme and use jute rope instead of zip ties. Maybe some bakelite housings?
I’d imagine for ease of modification. What if you wanna shorten / lengthen a cable during your install? It’s pretty trivial to crimp a new 4-6 wire RJ connector, but not with USB. That’d be my guess. RJ connectors can also securely lock into place while USB can slowly slide out over time.
To conform to SAE standards, automotive connectors should have locking tabs, which USB-C connectors do not have.

Yeah you can pair laser jammers with the R8 too.
The Laser. jammer on this unit is not mobile. It's hard wired

Every laser jammer is designed like this. The closest thing to a mobile-ish setup is the Escort ZW5 since you can use that without running a cable through your firewall, but even that needs to be mounted in your grill, wired to the car battery, etc. There are no windshield mount options that you can plug and go.
It is about time. I saw mature beta installed/operational in certain non-grata person (declared by certain sad hams NPCs) vehicle years ago. Before “covid”.

The engineering and design of this system seems to be really lacking? The spider web of wires just isn't necessary with todays technology, this reminds me of aftermarket car toys from 1995! They know everyone is going to be running 2-3 heads front and rear so why not have 1 one wire bundle that runs to the back where you can tie laser, radar, and maybe a GPS unit to it? A separate display unit, control pad, and LED status light.....really! The size of this stuff is also unreal, why is the GPS antenna 10x larger than it needs to be and that speaker.....just wow! With todays modern cars and all their tech + airbags there simply isn't the space under the dash for all this junk! So disappointed, I was hoping Uniden would crack the laser jammer nut as very few are going to pay for this plus the amount of install work not to mention carve up their vehicle to install it.
