I agree with this entire thread. I enjoy watching the Sims 4, but for storylines and lore there's nothing better than the first 2 or 3 games. Haven't watched Sims 3 so I'm not sure how much lore it has built in. But the first two games: absolutely stuffed with lore.
I'm assuming Pollination Tech #9 terraformed the house's lawn since Jenny has a level 7 interest in environment, probably wanting to have the stereotypical family that has a house with a white picket fence.
I think the commentary on Pol 9 representing immigrants/the notorious "Other," is _exactly_ why I've always leaned towards him being exactly as he appears- a retired tech with no memory of his past, who just decided to retire in the human world and build a family. I will readily admit, it is a _way_ less interesting, fun, wacky story line than him having some nefarious ulterior motives, but I also think it's a much more accurate reflection of my life as the child of an immigrant, ya know? It's always felt much more intuitive to think of him that way. That said, I do love these alternative theories, they're definitely more intriguing, and inspire much more interesting stories! Not to mention the absolutely bonkers implications/stories/etc. of the old PSP games and stuff! Man, I wish more of that energy existed in the mainline PC games!! So glad to see you're (comparatively) back to posting, as this is one of my absolute favorite channels!
I'd like to add an important detail. Drones are not workers. In bee society, drones are fertile males whose only duty is to impregnate the queen. Workers are infertile females (actuslly intersex but they have the same gene root as queens). PolTech's family tree shows no workers, but it seems his tree is just a summary of his direct lineage, because it only shows one child per Birth Queen anyway. I think there are many, many workers who are not put on the family tree because they have no direct reproductive role. And Pollination Technicians are a type of worker. Actually, among bees, the pollinators (aka the ones who leave the hive and get nectar) are the oldest bees, and they do this job until death (or retirement). The pollination technology is the only thing making PolTech fertile, as he is actually an intersex worker. Maybe he doesn't even pull from his own genes during pollination work, which is why the alien twins can marry their 'half brothers.' And there is something funky going on with Jill and Johnny, since they are half alien but have human features like blue eyes. PT messed around with genes to make them. All the other aliens we can play as, are women, aka Birth Queens, which explains why they are fertile. Even Vidcund and Pascal's alien children are always girls. The only time I have ever gotten a male is when I used cheats to force Lazlo or a woman (aka impossible) to also have an alien baby. As an additional tidbit, there's the fact that they are called COLONY drones. These aliens have spread beyond their home planet. Even if pollination technicians are relatively new as PT is only number 9 (though he is retired so there may already be hundreds younger than him), we know that this is a highly colony based society. They take over other planets, breeding hundreds of themselves to win by sheer numbers, and now they are beginning to genetically infiltrate occupied planets and force you to raise their children, like cuckoo birds.

Pol tries to emulate the "perfect suburban family", even in a deserted landscape they have lawn. "He thinks his human costume is working". He made his best efforts to form part of that society, learning simlish, having a wife and kids, etc. Deffinetivelly there is some commentary about inmmigration, integration, xenophobia and racism.
It's all too parallel to me about about the term "legal alien" for immigrants, gave me the shivers when I first heard it as though anyone not of the US (of which I'm from Australia) wasn't even considered human especially among the more patriotic sorts like what General Buzz represents.

@@lug358 That's what I think as well, Pol is being transparent with his life, leaving whatever not so good things well and truly behind. Buzz with his military knowledge (did he have any knowledge of the Strangetown govt facility? Did he work there maybe?) may know what goes on in that society so holds Pol guilty of it through association. Either that or Buzz hates Pol because Pol was planted by the govt to integrate with the townies hence why he's been memory wiped and Buzz knows it.

Actually that’s why it’s used to describe outer space men, because they are alien to earth. I understand why we don’t use the term anymore because nowadays people think little green men when they hear it. But by definition legal alien is just a synonym for legal immigrant.

I'd say the third theory is not necessarily a theory but a thematic analysis of the story. Since it can very much coexist with the first theory. And the second theory sounds something Mr Grunt would come up with in his spare time. So, I think all of them are applicable in their own ways.

Literally playing sims 2 rn and I was just remembering myself how wild Politech 9 is. Like we talk about Bella and olive all day but then we have politech 9 who has two alien daughters with the dude whose human daughter he later married and also has two children’s with. Just imagine johnnys half sister is his half aunt. And Jenny’s half sisters are her step daughters 😂 like what is happening
Idk why, but I didn't assume pt9 was malicious... except for when I was a little kid, but I thought I was just being judgemental of a green guy as kids are sometimes😮... I was later drawn to the family because of how wholesome an alien raised in a cold alien algorithm wanting to experience warm sim connection & love was to me... hm. I never really liked the story pt9 had in the psp. It just didn't make any sense because the aliens don't have families in the pc game... So, when it came to polli acting weird, like with the evil laughter, I assumed it was a "old habits die hard" situation. Although I did make up a story when I was younger that Buzz had feelings for Jenny before she suddenly eloped with pt9, thus his obsession with them and why his marriage went south... What a thinker.🧐 This is all over the place, sorry.

To be fair to the human Sims, I don't particularly blame most of them for holding a level of distrust towards Aliens. I mean, considering that these creatures will occasionally kidnap human sims and impregnate them without consent, would you be so willing to welcome them within your community with open arms? And it's not like a "that was what my ancestors did, but I'm not like that today" type situation because these Aliens are still currently doing this type of stuff to humans to this very day.
When I was 12 and addicted to playing The Sims 2, my favorite town was Stangeville and my goal was always to populate it with as many aliens as possible to make Pollination Tech #9 mission successful :x Now that I think about it's a little messed up but I just loved aliens in The Sims 2 T_T
oh how i miss when sims had cool lore. i love playing sims 4 and making fun stories by myself but it will never be as fun as messing with the pre-existing families of sims 2. 12 year old me was a menace to all of them and it was so fun.
The Smith's house, with the three dormers evenly spaced on the upper floor, the way the roof overhangs the porch, and the stairs going down, just everything about it if you step back and look at it for a few mins, really is reminiscent to me of the shape of a spaceship. Also, the chairs in their dining room, and the singular chair in the corner, are the exact same as the chair at 88 Road to Nowhere in the tiny, double trash can room at the corner of the lot. Do you think Buzz Grunt used to work at the facility that is now a shopping center?
My personal theory for PT9 (and again - it's mine so it might be a bunch of bs) is that he escaped his home planet after "accidentally" spreading the royal genes to Sims - namely Glarn Curious. PT9 seems to come from a matriarchal colony and is the only male child of his queen mother, breaking the successful chain of having female descendants for several generations. He might've been locked up in shame, but managed to sneak out and get involved with the colony drones and other pollination technicians. Since Glarn seems to be his only victim, it might've been a one-time abduction PT9 managed to pull before the queen discovered what happened and how he "desecrated" the royal blood by using it to impregnate a random Sim. Maybe he was banished or actually ran away on his own with a death sentence on his back. Somehow managed to end up in Strangetown - the same place where his victim lived - and tried blending in with the Sims there. I don't necessarily think he lost his memories, but rather decided to forget his past life in order to start a new one. Maybe his PSP delusions carried into the PC game and he truly believed he successfully disguised as a regular Sim.
12:06 Extra chair for company such as one of the children's friends staying overnight. They will need a chair for dinner and breakfast. It is set off to the side for more leg room, the table is not made for chairs at the ends just 2 on each side. That's clear by the length of the table properly scooted in and knees would be hitting each other. The chair unused and under the table would have the legs of the people eating hitting it, so for everyday comfort it is set in the corner of the dining room and when company is using the chair the sides chairs would be closer together to allow space for the end. Not at all a mystery, grew up in a house with a chair in two corners of the dining room, both usually covered in Moms crap lol. Though our table had leaf's to extend the length of the table it made it cramped in the dining room with them in so they were in a closet and the extra chairs in the corners of the room. It's actually really common, enough to be seen on TV dining room sets even.
As someone who intermittently plays Sims 2, it's a nostalgia. I might download it again as it feels like therapy. Great video! Been watching since the 2020!
We don't really know what was the relationship between Glabe and Glarn, since there's no indication they were actually married. Many players assume so, because of the way the photo looks as if they were sleeping in the same bed when the twins were born. But Glabe could've been just an affair of Glarn while he was already married to Kitty. Especially since a) neither of the twins have a memory of the divorce and if it happened after they were born it should be there and b) they seem younger than Jenny and even Pascal or Vidcund. They seem to be in their early 20s at the beginning of the game, living with their roommates and only making plans for the future.
@@Spartak2811 Well, that's just their fan theory. It could be possible, but then again she would've been on Glarn's family tree to begin with. I've seen several different ideas of who could she possibly be, but I stick to the belief she was Glarn's affair partner after Jenny, Pascal and Vidcund were already born. I know The Sims 2 timeline is already messed up (like Nervous Subject being younger than Buck Grunt) and I don't really believe the twins were born before Glarn's marriage with Kitty and Jenny's birth.

Ah yes, the good old Curious-Smith Family Wreath. 💖 Personally I don't think Pol is malicious in any way and is genuinely just enjoying his retirement and family life, but that's just my interpretation. I'd also hesitate to take too much of the PS2 game as True Canon, as there are MANY glaring inaccuracies, mistakes, and character changes made between it and the original PC game. And also, for that matter, there are also multiple inconsistencies within the PC game's memories themselves, so we kinda gotta play fast and loose with what we consider to be "true," lol 😅
Glabe is one of the most beautiful pre made sims. I think the age discrepancy is just explained by them not being played. Really Chloe and Lola should be elders 😂

Ugh I miss sims 2 lore sooo much. Sims 5 better have lots of LORE as it is what made me love the game. Having story lines to play out PLUS the oppertunity to write your own stories is the best way to game. Sometimes you want to be given a family with a backstory and play their lives and not always be forced to create your own story (or the weak stories given in sims 4 where sims don't know anyone except maybe one other sim)
And I feel sorry for Glarn who was traumatised for his all entire life. And he wanted to forget this disaster happened in his life and never thought that his daughter will marry his abductor, in reality, his rapist. Shame on Jenny.
Well I remember The Sims DS was all about alien INVASION (and cults, lol), so maybe if that timeline canon, Pol could've met his now wife there, I want to think something something twisted love story developed and General Grunt maybe liked her but she always ignored him, so he automatically hated Pol since? No alien racism here, he just hates everyone (though the commentary is there).
I take Sims 2 psp as my gospel truth so I definitely find first theory compelling, though it's clear they wanted an allegory for xenophobia (as Sims aren't inherently racist)

Now that you mentioned it yes Pol acts really weird on PSP. It's almost like he's a totally different person.

We don't really know what was the relationship between Glabe and Glarn, since there's no indication they were actually married. Many players assume so, because of the way the photo looks as if they were sleeping in the same bed when the twins were born. But Glabe could've been just an affair of Glarn while he was already married to Kitty. Especially since a) neither of the twins have a memory of the divorce and if it happened after they were born it should be there and b) they seem younger than Jenny and even Pascal or Vidcund. They seem to be in their early 20s at the beginning of the game, living with their roommates and only making plans for the future.

@@Spartak2811 Well, that's just their fan theory. It could be possible, but then again she would've been on Glarn's family tree to begin with. I've seen several different ideas of who could she possibly be, but I stick to the belief she was Glarn's affair partner after Jenny, Pascal and Vidcund were already born. I know The Sims 2 timeline is already messed up (like Nervous Subject being younger than Buck Grunt) and I don't really believe the twins were born before Glarn's marriage with Kitty and Jenny's birth.
@@BKNTDit’s not just a fun theory but an official clean template of neighbourhood cleaned from corruption and with restored family connections. Glabe is connected as Glarn’s sister. And I believe in this version more. Glarn was a knowledge sim.

Personally I don't think Pol is malicious in any way and is genuinely just enjoying his retirement and family life, but that's just my interpretation. I'd also hesitate to take too much of the PS2 game as True Canon, as there are MANY glaring inaccuracies, mistakes, and character changes made between it and the original PC game. And also, for that matter, there are also multiple inconsistencies within the PC game's memories themselves, so we kinda gotta play fast and loose with what we consider to be "true," lol 😅

exactly! they do since they're both based of Nevada.. However, Lucky Palms is inspired by Las Vegas, Strangetown is more an Area 51 kind vibe

Ugh I miss sims 2 lore sooo much. Sims 5 better have lots of LORE as it is what made me love the game. Having story lines to play out PLUS the oppertunity to write your own stories is the best way to game. Sometimes you want to be given a family with a backstory and play their lives and not always be forced to create your own story (or the weak stories given in sims 4 where sims don't know anyone except maybe one other sim)
Sims 2 is still everything. :)

Well I remember The Sims DS was all about alien INVASION (and cults, lol), so maybe if that timeline canon, Pol could've met his now wife there, I want to think something something twisted love story developed and General Grunt maybe liked her but she always ignored him, so he automatically hated Pol since? No alien racism here, he just hates everyone (though the commentary is there).
