    Ok here's what I think. Being at normal weight is probably the best and healthiest thing to do...if your slightly underweight that's ok and being slightly overweight that's ok too, especially if you have a lot of mussels or whatever . All that matters is that what your eating is relatively or mostly healthy and that you get some sort of daily exercise even it's just walking for twenty minutes. However, if you are extremely underweight or obese, or at any weight in which you have health problems because of it, then that is not okay. You shouldn't need a extra seat belt or not be able to fit in a booth at a restaurant.

      Savannah McCoy Someone could be a normal wait and eat like shit then die around the same time as an obese person from the toxins that are in food now a days to make food production more profitable. Being to skinny is bad for your body so is carrying to much fat but healthy definitely isn't just how much fat someone has. Eat 99% plant foods like leafy greens fruits and nuts and have a piece of lean wild meat or it won't have any of the nutrients you need. You don't have to eat meat but it's difficult to eat enough vitamin A and some B vitamins without it unless you can eat a half pound of kale a day.

    All those 500 lbs. weighting 70-year old's do agree with HAES. The huge issue is the difference between overweight and obese. When being overweight may be even beneficial, being obese is not good. In the US Army, they use BMI plus 10 lbs. They want you to have 10 lbs. extra muscle exactly. Once you start getting too big, they start making you do static exercises (pushing the wall, carrying ammo boxes etc.). They are OK with let say you have 3 lbs. of fat and 7 lbs. of muscle because it could make you survive longer in the case of your food supplies being cut off. However, if you want to be up to physical fitness standard, most of the extra 10 lbs. must be muscle. Losing weight is important because of that majority of doctors are fat phobic or fat convenient. They blame all your problems on you being overweight or obese without checking for real causes.

  • @Skiskiski
    @Skiskiski Před 3 lety +10

    There is a huge difference between being 10 lbs. overweight and being obese. I want to have extra 10 lbs. (7 lbs. of extra muscle and 3 lbs. of extra fat). Being overweight by a small amount has been shown beneficial under certain circumstances (example: can help regulate insulin levels in some people) ; however, being obese has never been shown beneficial. And I do get the argument that eating too much added sugar shows 2-twice as strong correlation with Diabetes II than being obese, but being obese still increase your chances of Diabetes in a significant way.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his prime, had a BMI of 30.9, but had a body fat percentage of 8.5%. For those who don't know, that means he was scientifically jacked and ripped, and consequently very healthy. The only thing this video disproves, then, is the Body mass index, which is generally considered by the fitness industry to be erroneous. While this doctor is correct in disagreeing with the bmi, the body fat percentage cannot be ruled out. A percentage above ~ 30% is obese, and this woman definitely fits into that cohort, so she is far from healthy.

I'm still fat, because after excersising hard I might eat just as much as I have spent, but damn, I'm much stronger than I have ever been and I might dare to say I'm fitter than many of my mates who have 'healthy' weight. Because they don't move, they smoke, they drink, and so on. So yes, I do think you can be fat and fit. My grand-grandma was fat all her life but she lived until 99 years old, and I think she would live longer if not a doctor mistake. So I'm very tired of hearing 'oh you're fat you will get diabetes or die from heart collapse at 30'. As long as you live more or less healthy lifestyle and eat healthy diverse foods, you can stay healthy even if you're fat. Of course, to a certain extent. My bmi is about 31, which is obese, but I am still pretty fit and muscular, but I guess after BMI of around 35-40 even with sports it might get difficult to stay healthy, here I agree. But nowadays society judges and shames people for neglecting their health even at bmi 25, eventhough these people might be perfectly healthy and fit, they just don't get into calorie deficit and might not even feel the need to.

    "Exercising 9 hours per day and not losing weight"
    Yeah, exercise doesn't make you lose weight. Restricting calories to create a deficit makes you lose weight. You can exercise 24/7 and you'd still be 300 lbs if you ate back everything you lost from exercise. You could even gain weight if you ate more than you "exercised away".
    On the other hand you could just lose weight by only dieting and not doing anything else if you wanted. As long as you ate less than you burned. That's the first law of thermodynamics. I don't get why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
    Also being overweight is directly tied to being unhealthy. Never mind all the risks of diabetes and whatever other illnesses it brings along. Jut the stress that you're putting on your joints daily. The fact that pregnancies have a smaller chance of working out well. The fact that pretty much anyone that is overweight isn't doing it by eating 3000 kcal of fruit, but rather 3000 kcal of sweets/junk food/etc.
    No matter how much lazy people would like it to be the other way around: obese=unhealthy.
    Being thin might equal being unhealthy if you are anorexic, do drugs, eat shit food, or whatever else. But it isn't directly correlated. So, in general being thin is healthier than being overweight. The person could still be unhealthy, but it doesn't have anything to do with their body weight (except people with extremely low body weights like anorexics/bulimics).

      IIsuperstarII I am overweight..but I didn't get overweight from eating 3000kal of junk as you claimed. I eat whole foods as generally that makes up my local cuisine. I don't buy processed things in packets. So am I fat from healthy foods? Also I don't eat that much. Most times less than 2000kal. My BMI is 29 bordering 30. I am fitter than a lot of my skinny friends tho who eat way more crap than me and couldn't run a mile to save their lives. I run not that fast but for a fat girl I can jog a mile in 10mins. My best time for a 10k is 1hr 20m. I can swim freestyle for 1km in under 35mins. Not bad eh for a 190pounder?

    • @hazween23
      @hazween23 Před 5 lety +1

      IIsuperstarII you seem to have completely missed my point. I am simply referencing your claim that "you don't get obese by eating fruits but rather junk food" or along those lines. I am overweight, yes and I accept that. I just prevalenced that to being on a nutritional, wholefoods diet. According to my BMI at 30, I fall into the obese category. But my fat percentage is around 27. I am 190 pounds and about 5'6". Surely, that has had a lot to do with the foods I am eating which is still wayyy better than the crap most people (overweight or not) are eating. Also, certain foods actually make you burn more calories because of its fibre and water content. So oats is still better than say white bread even in the same caloric value as your body uses up more energy to digest complex carbs. But anyway I know I still have some ways to go in terms of my ideal weight, but atm my blood pressure, resting heart rate, blood sugar levels all indicate I am of fit health. That's all I care about really.

    • @iisuperstarii7310
      @iisuperstarii7310 Před 5 lety +4

      hazween23 That number of extra calories you burn from eating food is nothing compared to how much more you are eating than a "normal" person your height. And I didn't say that you can't get fat off of fruit. I said most obese people didn't get fat off of fruit. Which is still true. Go ask around in the US or UK or Dubai what the people with obviously high fat percentages regularly eat, I guarantee you its not fruit or vegetables. The simplest reason is that it's just too hard to get that fat off of such a calorie light food (except for some fruits).
      In fact I can even hardly believe that your diet is exactly as you describe it. Even if you truly believe it because you are clearly very uninformed. Maybe you do eat a lot of stuff that looks healthy and light, but it just isn't. Example: you make a salad with tomatoes, lettuce, and whatever other vegetables you like and then you throw in cheese and top it off with a bunch of olive oil. Just adding the olive oil alone probably added like 300kcal to a max 150kcal salad. You think you're eating light and healthy, but actually you're eating a bunch of grease with some vegetables on the side.
      And btw if your bloodpressure is perfect at whatever young (probably) age you are at now, that still doesn't mean anything. Complications don't normally set in with people that are in their prime. Your body could probably take even more. And if you happen to be a young woman then it is even more likely that your blood pressure right now tells us nothing. Considering the fact that young women are more likely to have a slightly lower bloodpressure which gets corrected (higher) as they get older.
      And just in case you had never heard it from anyone, gluttony is never healthy, no matter what food or drink it is. You can actually eat too much fruit. You can "overdose" on vitamins. There is also a prescribed maximum, it just never gets told to people because there are hardly any people that would actually deal with the problem of eating too much fruit. Look up the symptoms of eating too much Vitamin A for example if you don't believe me. You could even die by drinking too much water (which doesn't contain anything). Anything you eat or drink should be in moderation, because that is what your body requires. That includes "good" foods and drinks as well.
      And last of all, even if your veins don't get clogged with grease because you supposedly only eat fruit...you still weigh too much! It will never be healthy on your bones. If you don't deal with the complications of a heart attack you'll be dealing with the complications of brittle bones at an older age. Putting that much extra pressure on your body for so many years can't seriously seem healthy to you?
      And even if you physically still can run a mile in 10 minutes, I bet you don't like it. I've only ever been in the "fat" and "normal" section of BMI and I have to tell you I did everything I could to avoid running. We did have a different test in our high school annually where you just had to run as many circles around the football field as you could in 15 minutes and then get graded on that. And I absolutely hated it. I was faster than some of the people that weighed less than me, but at the end of it I was still beat. Fast forward a couple years till I lost some weight and I could definitly feel the difference. Moving simply cost me less energy, less effort. It also made me more likely to want to walk places. Which probably helped my body as well. Being fatter sadly also directly relates to moving around less because it just tires you out. And it hardly has to do with what you're eating. If I was stuck with a backpack that weighed a 100lbs I would be freaking sure that I wouldn't get off the couch any more than I had to. Regardless of what my actual diet is.
      So, sorry, no matter what you are actually gonna say about yourself to try to convince me that being obese can be equally healthy as being "normal" in any way, I won't believe you. It's bad for reasons outside of your diet, even if you have a diet that consists of fruit and vegetables and never any junk food or processed food.

    • @hazween23
      @hazween23 Před 5 lety +1

      IIsuperstarII I somehow get the impression that you are mistaking me for advocating that it's ok to be obese. Where have I ever implied that? I used to be a lot heavier than now and lost weight but at the same time I won't be dropping dead with the current fitness level and weight I am at now. You seem to be stretching my argument to extremes that are just so far fetched likening my diet to gluttony and so forth. I never said it's ok or that I overindulge in whatever foods I take. And no, obviously I don't just eat fruits or overeat them. In fact I stay away from most fruits as it's high in sugar. What I am also trying to point out is that it's important to factor in other indicators of health rather than just what the scales say. Any doctor would tell you that. I think you missed all that in your eagerness to say me wrong. In regard to my blood pressure and that as a woman I am predisposed to having an increase with age, well I am no fortune teller. But if I am able to maintain it with the relatively healthy diet I have now (prob not the best but still better than most) I still won't be dropping dead as a direct result from my 30 BMI. Again, in case you missed it, NO I AM NOT SAYING IT'S OK TO OVEREAT AND BE OBESE. But at least, it's ok to be fit and healthy even if you're carrying a little extra weight like me. I wouldn't be a glutton or predisposed to diseases just because I can't get to a 24/25 BMI. Get what I'm saying? Jeez. Your comments are laced with ignorance and not to mention your snide about me being misinformed and my diet. I wish I can show you how I look now to make you see a simple point.

    • @iisuperstarii7310
      @iisuperstarii7310 Před 5 lety +3

      hazween23 Reread your comments. Whether or not you literally said the words "BEING OBESE IS HEALTHY" is irrelevant, you are trying to imply that obesity doesn't have to be unhealthy by saying that: an obese person's diet is made up of only non processed, healthy foods and that you can run faster than some of your thinner friends and the fact that all your bloodwork is A-okay. You can go and claim "Those are just facts I wasn't implying anything." But in that case I'll end the discussion there because you clearly want to play dumb. You have only mentioned "facts" that are in line with the idea that obesity can give you the fitness level of a normal healthy person.
      Also, it is kind of comical that you keep finding ways to avoid responding to any of my arguments. Either it's "you missed my point. Let's not talk about that" or "omg you are so sure of yourself you should see yourself". I keep trying to respond to pieces of your comments in which you try to tell me that you're a healthy obese person, and you keep trying to make me look like I'm an obesity hating idiot that can't listen to reason.
      And no, you were not just trying to tell me there are other factors to look at when considering a person's health or you would have done that in the simpleist way "Weight isn't the only factor indicating health. Look at all those skinny cokeheads". You very clearly came at me trying to prove that obesity doesn't have to be a problem in itself if you just eat fruits and run fast. And then I told you that carrying an extra 100lbs is a problem in and of itself.
      And in response to your last part about "carrying a little extra weight can be...", let me remind you that I never actually talked about regularly fat people on the bmi scale (except in reference to myself because I never hit obese). I only talked about obese people. Which means people that dont just carry "a little bit of extra weight", but people that carry a lot of extra weight. Hell yeah people that carry an extra couple of pounds and are just chubby can be just as healthy as skinny people or even healthier. But for the last time, obesity is a problem in itself. It isn't just a bit of extra weight. And it isn't made up for by eating healthy foods. That is why I keep responding to your supposedly neutral facts with comments of my own.
      And just to clear things up, the only reason you mistook my comments for snide is because they apparently disagree with your worldview. At no point did I cuss at you, or imply that you were stupid for believing something, or anything. The only thing you could have mistaken as snide is the "uniformed" part of one of my comments and while that was not meant as an insult, I still stand behind it. You gave me the idea that you thought you were eating 3000kcal worth of fruit and vegetables every single day, which is practically impossible seeing as how expensive fruit is and how much you would need to consume of it to actually get to 3000kcal. My only conclusions were that you are not sure what you were eating, or that you were lying. And I figured it would be snide of me to tell you you were a liar so I went with the alternative. Apparantly a mistake.
      And about me stretching things to the extreme to call what you're doing gluttony... excuse me? You are eating well above what is required for your body. You are in fact eating so much that you are hurting your body. In what universe is it stretching stuff to extremes to call your eating habits gluttonous? Do you think only 400 pounders can be called gluttonous? Or are they just regular too? I don't get how you could seriously think that you could get to obesity without gluttony? It must just be a big coincidence that I have never seen any obese starving people in Africa.
      And lastly, it is really something to have you tell me that I'm ignorant and snide when in all my comments I have tried to state things as objectively as possible and only mention you personally in things that you brought yourself up as evidenice. Yet every single time I get a response from you indicating that you have either disregarded everything I said or you are trying to tell me that I'm too stupid to see your point. The impression I got from you is the exact same you got from me.
      Basically that you are misinformed and actually think that your weight poses no problems (because only a fortune teller could look into the future and predict that an extra 100lbs is gonna leave you with brittle bones), and that I'm an idiot for implying that you are wrong and not listening to anything you say (even though I keep responding to arguments in your comments while you have not at any point actually responded to mine without immediatly disregarding it).
      I don't see the point in continueing this discussion because clearly neither of us is gonna change our position any time soon. Good luck on your health goals.

This is not OK. If you ignore it, it could lead to other health problems down the road. You might feel fine now because you just a bit of obese on the weight and you add some exercise. It might keep you down temporary. As you're aging, your metabolism goes down and you keep eating the same stuff that got you obese. Exercise will have very little effect change in your body. Losing weight starts at the kitchen, not at the gym. Exercise only helps to speed up the process of losing weight. It's not the main thing.

    Neither extreme is ideal. And what is considered "fat"? Many average people are considered fat. However, morbid obesity is not good in any case.

    That doctor is conflating fat percentage and BMI. And yes if you’re merely 20 pounds overweight, you can be healthy. Different from being morbidly obese.

    "Thinner means sicker and heavier means healthier." what? That literally makes no sense at all. I'm 6"4' and used to weigh about 275 and I started to have a lot of minor health problems ranging from constant headaches to high blood pressure, but since I started to lose weight and eat healthier, those health problems have decreased significantly. Now I weigh about 256, and I still have a ways to go, to go back to my normal weight range (which is 220 to 225) but like I said, those minor health problems have decreased significantly. I would like to add, that it is unhealthy to be underweight too, so you have to find that healthy medium where you're in the normal weight range for your height.

    Weight stigma is a result of weight bias. Weight bias refers to the negative ideologies associated with obesity. These can include laziness, lack of will power, a lack of moral character, bad hygiene, low level of intelligence and unattractiveness. Stigmatising beliefs and ideologies can lead to stigmatising acts.

    Honestly this is not surprising based on the amazing things the body is capable of.
    It's almost like people never looked into history and maybe idk questioned societal logic.
    Think for yourself but you don't have to, not everyone wants to learn new things. That's understandable.

    Being skinny does not equal fit and neither does being fat. BMI works good for diagnosing how unhealthy someone is by overweight but the fat to muscle ratio is what needs to be looked at for fitness.
