mickey boy I actually agree with Ellianne. I have someone in my family who's anorexic. It was a lot worse back then, she didn't even want to eat one raisin, that's how bad it was. It could start like this. It's possible.
Edit: this someone wasn't obese before, I noticed that I wasn't clear enough, she has a father that is and she always grew up with this mentality that you need to watch how many calories your food has, that eating candy is the worst you could do etc. Her mother also always complains about "how fat she is" even though she's perfectly normal. She always took us to Weight Watcher's meetings and showed us how important diets are for her. That's one of the few reasons why she became anorexic. She's kinda okay now but she still is a health freak and doesn't allow herself to eat something "unhealthy".

Most of those kids came out of there with one form of eating disorder or another. Many gained all the weight back and more. I know all of them because I was one of the kids in the video. We were all terrified to gain the weight back. Wellspring taught us that there is no such thing as moderation and they preached to us that we should develop a, "healthy obsession", where we should feel really bad if we messed up but not too bad to where we would want to quit. We were meant to aim for 0 grams of fat a day because they told us there was no such thing as a healthy fat, so we desperately tried to fill up on fat free foods, but to our dismay we always failed to adequately satiate our appetites. When we came back home and back into the real world, most of us failed to uphold our new "healthy lifestyles", no matter how long we had stayed at school and subsequent summer camps. We rapidly began to put the weight back on. We felt like it was all our own faults. That it was a character flaw and personal failure, that we had let our families down and waisted everybody's time and money. Really, we were set up for failure from the start with an unrealistic diet and view of healthy living. Some kids ended up with bulimia, anorexia, or bingeing disorders, depression, etc, and needed further treatment for those problems. This school is no longer running.

@@itsizrasroblox having 0 grams of fat a day is unrealistic. Becoming healthier has to be a lifestyle change. So you are saying teenagers are going to live the rest of their lives consuming 0 grams of fat and never eating any junk food ever again? That is so unrealistic. They should be teaching the kids that it is okay in moderation but most of their diet should be clean and good. Also, personally I think the school should be more focused on sugar intake and not fat intake.

Lydia D - it’s not crazy extreme, but it is a very healthy and maintainable rate of weight loss. You should never lose more than 2 lbs a week unless you’re either a) super morbidly obese (in terms of proportions, people on that end of the weight scale can safely lose a lot more weight a lot faster for the first portion of their journey) or b) under extremely careful supervision by a doctor.
When my Lupus was first undiagnosed and the disease caused me to lose weight very rapidly, the doctors weren’t too worried with 5lbs a week for the first few weeks, then they became very keen on drastically slowing the rate. The last month I was in a healthy weight range and still losing 2-3 lbs per week. Then I got diagnosed, was put on chemo, and my weight stabilized. I was incredibly grateful because the next step would have been forcing me to drink those hideous Ensure type drinks, which make me puke. Ugh.

Based on a quick google search, the average cost of taking care of teen in the US is about $13,000 a year. The average cost of private school is about another $12,000 a year. Then one must add in the cost of the coaches, maintaining the cabins, etc. Plus, costs will be more than the average private school because there is likely far fewer students there, so they have to cover the same cost that many more would usually cover. Is it tough for most families to afford? Yes, but is it necessary without some other form of income or stipend, also yes.

Fat is not the issue. Calories are not the issue (although overeating doesn't help). Food choices are the answer. Lean protein, vegetables, good fats like nuts/seeds/avocados, and fruits - in normal, healthy amounts. I lost 20lbs in two months (going from an overweight 185 to a normal 165) on just lean protein and vegetables, lost another ten pounds in the following year, and am still toning/shaping up. I'm basically modified paleo (occasional dairy treats) and I've never been healthy until I changed my diet. I never had the energy to exercise. (Granted, I potentially have NCGS, which I refuse to test for because I refuse to eat gluten daily for six weeks - I'd rather live without it than go through major depressive episodes and severe stomach cramps for six weeks) I like Wellspring's philosophy and how much they actually seem to care about the kids who want it badly enough - but I do agree that they're going about it the wrong way diet-wise. Just my personal two cents. What worked for me may not work for everyone, and that's okay. But a thought - if calories are the only things that matter, by that philosophy you could eat the same low-calorie amounts of baked potato chips or broccoli and still lose weight on just the potato chips. Has anyone actually tried this? I'd like to see the results.

I was working in two physical jobs whilst exercising at night. I then ended up with muscle wasting because my calories were so low. Started eating gluten free cornflakes to bulk it up and a bit more fruit. They, as a camp, should have a little bit more fat, less carbs and get rid of the bloody dairy, give them something else with calcium in it(i detest dairy for its side effects ) i wonder if they get fatty fish at all? I also ate salmon religiously and still lost weight

cokerainbows THIS. Good for you, dude! It's true - if you do it right, you can eat whatever. I have dance for two hours a week and work out minimum thirty minutes per day almost every day, so my body burns through food like crazy - I'm hungry within three hours after eating one meal no matter how much water I've had, because my meals consist of veggies, meat, and maybe a piece of fruit.
In regards to your other comment - I can have organic potato chips once in awhile (apparently potatoes are now paleo), although usually when my body isn't used to something and I eat it, I have major stomach cramps afterwards. I've had to majorly reduce my dairy intake in the last few months because of how bad I feel afterwards.
I LOVE salmon - if they don't get proper fats, they're losing out on the HEALTHY way to lose weight...

I would just take dairy out, it's no good for you, i don't think i've ever felt so good since taking it out my diet. The stomach pain is a major red flag, your stomach clearly isn't liking some of those foods or the dairy. I like to eat more naturally, i'd say my downfall is potato chips(im calling them that even though im used to "crisps", i'm from the UK) but apart from that, i don't think i'm too bad. I'm always shocked by how much humans consume though, a lot of it is really unhealthy and you don't see many people walking around that are very healthy, they are either fat, obese, flabby or super skinny/untoned. Keeping a strict diary of the food they eat everyday...REALLY! This is a recipe for mental health disaster. Eliminating all fats is also a bad idea. When they leave the camp they may either succeed in a healthy way, become anorexic, obsess over food, or given into eating fatty foods that will balloon their weight because they have been denied fat for over a year. If I go a little over my calorie range for one meal, it just reminds me to be a little better for the next one. Though I do agree about the elimination of all fats. It's also worth mentioning that to get the weights these kids were at, they may not have been the pinnacle of mental health to begin with. There's definitely a balance that has to be found on both sides of that equation.

That is *not* how you do push ups!! You will get injured doing that. Arms should be parallel to the ground and keep elbows tuck in.

its really not easier said than done. if you dont have the self control to not eat copious amounts of unhealthy foods on a regular basis there is absolutely no hope for you when it comes to you keeping the weight off when you leave this delusional, overpriced place of nonsense.
