I've volunteered with them twice (once inside the prison, once outside for low-level offenders) and it's truly such a remarkable organization. Yes, it's for the kids, but the dads are treated with deep dignity and respect- they're not known by their wrongdoings but as their identities as human beings and fathers. It's a weird and humbling dynamic and I wish more people had the opportunity to experience this group's mission.

@@brandonizaguirre2963 wow, what the hell man. It's never as simple as that and you should know it. Also, I'm pretty sure there's an extremely heavy screening processes for the prisoners/fathers that get to participate. I'm sure they have to have impeccably good behavior to earn the opportunity and much more. Every case is unique. The father who was a murderer was in a bar fight. It was probably an unintentional murder. Still murder, yes, but it was probably something like involuntary manslaughter. (alcohol + bar fights don't go good together). A rapist would be unlikely to participate in something like this that, again, is FOR THE KIDS more than anything else. Hopefully you at least have sympathy for the children.

When he was later transferred to a low security prison he got decent meals, got to watch TV, his kids and wife could visit, we could even apply for a certain amount of time where he got to spend time with us outside of prison, like a 24 hour period (sometimes less, sometimes more). He was also allowed to get a job and work if he was monitored by either an ankle monitor or someone who worked in the prison. I’m 17 years old when I was younger my dad used to verbally and physically abuse my family. In grade 4 he was charged with sexual assault, the case remained open and he lived with my family again. Those years were terrifying, I was always afraid of him hurting me. In 9th grade, I came home to see my mom and my sister distraught. They told me my dad had been arrested, I couldn’t even hide my joy. He’s been gone for more than 3 years now. I don’t want him to come back. But I do miss him, because he was my dad. There were happy moments with him too. I always just wanted to feel safe around him.

I didn’t know that he was gonna go to prison until 4 days before he went, and he finally told me and my brother. I was 13 when he went away. I miss him so much. My mom tries to make me feel like I shouldn’t love him. But I do love him, he is my dad. He always put work before me and my siblings, but I still think he was a pretty good dad. I have some good memories with him. I had to go from when I was 13yo until a few months ago (17yo) without seeing him. When I was 13, I used to cry at night fearing that I would never see him again, and I would think “all I want is one hug from my dad”.

This program needs to be in every prison. Breaks my heart. Yes, children are the silent victims and they need their fathers and their fathers need them. Just because a man’s incarcerated doesn’t mean his ability to love and parent his kids stops. It doesn’t mean that he is not a good parent. These types of programs benefit both parent and child and helps to foster self-worth and attachment.

I absolutely agree with you on that. My ex husband has been in jail for almost a year now and it breaks my heart that my daughter is the one who showed me this video. I'm heartbroken right now and there's nothing I can do to help her. My fiance passed away from brain cancer 2 weeks before her father was arrested and she was just as close to him as she is with her father so she has been through so much. Unfortunately the jail doesn't allow any contact other than video chat or phone calls which cost more for 10 minutes than most people where we live make per hour. The children involved are the ones who are suffering the most and I hope that more facilities will have programs like this one available to help the children not punish them too.

My dad is in prison, he went to prison when I was 12 almost 13. I took out my anger at school by getting into fights and getting into trouble. Some kids would bring tequila to school and we would drink it at recess, and I did this to numb the pain of missing my dad. Then the next year (8th grade) when I was 13, I met a girl and we got along great. I was excited to go to school because I knew I was gonna see her. Eventually we had sex. We had sex a lot of times and I never had access to condoms because I couldn’t get anywhere to buy them or ask my mom because I was only 13. She got pregnant and immediately told her parents who were the most supportive parents ever. But I never told my mom, and her parents didn’t tell my mom because they thought that she might get scared and want an abortion. My son was born when I was 13. I’m now 17 and my dad is still in prison. But now I have a beautiful 3 year old son who I would die for. I travelled back to USA (I had to move away from there when I was 14), and got to spend the entire day with my son. It was the best day of my life. But leaving him was extremely hard. I cannot describe the pain of having to stop hugging him, put him down, and get into the car and drive away knowing it could be another year before I see him again. I don’t know how to be a dad. I’m only 17, and I don’t live anywhere near my son. But I still love him more than anything on this earth, and he loves me too.

You know Grace is a gift no one deserves not even the most law abiding citizen. I belive im everyone being held accountable for thier actions buf i also stongly belive in redemption. I just think its sad that we are so condemning like we never needed a second chance before. We are all sinners. Some more than others. Its becuase of thise mentality that the united states is overflowing with prisoners becuase programs that offer you Gods grace are belittled and not supported. Its mote convenient for the pockets of the country to make more jails and continue cramming them in than to offer grace to a selected few that want to recive it..

To teach him how to shoot his first basket, or kick his first soccer ball, etc... Even though he did commit murder witch is worse than horrible... The scene where the daughter who spoke in the mic with her father behind her, made me tear up. My dad (who I never met), was in prison in some point of his life. He was out, for God knows how long, and I've always wanted to look for him and meet him for the first time in my life, but... sadly, I never got that chance because he passed away in 2018. Even though he's gone, I'll always forgive him. If he was alive today...(gosh I'm getting emotional here. trying not to tear up), he would be very proud of his son. For the dads out there, I give my respects for being great fathers for your child or children. And also a question for the dads if you can help me. Like a son to fatherless child seeking greater advice. (dont worry I still have momma)
How will I know when the right girl is looking for me, and not the other way around? I'm nervous to just walk up to her and start a conversation then have her think it's weird. Any tips or good ideas?

I know for a fact that whomever God has for you to be part of your future and your life, He will reveal her to you, and you will know in your heart that's the one. You'll just instinctively know when it's time to speak or smile or have that nice eye contact without words. Somehow, your paths will just happen to cross at the proper time. You'll feel it. But just try to not let a special opportunity slip by is all.....❤God bless you.

It looks like he has a clean record in the prison in terms of behavior, so hopefully he get released at the earliest date and be reunited with his then-adult daughter. Jeremiah (Amiah’s dad) was last sentenced from jail 2013 (this was recorded in 2015) and he was released in 2019. From what I can find, he has not been to prison since.
