      Yeah no problem, happy to help! The used scooter market is sure to be even bigger then the new market when you think about it.
      If you know how to fix things, there's plenty of money to be made off buying old scooters are repairing them.
      I should have mentioned this in the video, but make sure you buy something name brand with parts available. If a company goes out a business and the parts arent available, the scooter becomes nearly worthless.

      @@ScootaGang yeah K agree with you the used scooter market is huge.!
      Definitely an opportunity to make a few dollars if you know what you are doing.
      Yeah thanks for saying about name brands, I would always buy well known brands exactly for the reasons you mentioned.
      I've a 4 year old Razor T25 still in perfect working condition because I cleaned it up every single time I used it, it was my first scooter and modestly priced. I rode over 3k miles on it so far I don't use it much these days but take it out for a ride every now and then. Cheers mate am happy I found this page.

    The most important thing is to check if the scooter charges to maxium voltage. There is degradation if it doesnt. 14s should be 58.8v. Not 58.4v or anything

    • @ScootaGang
      @ScootaGang  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You are correct, but, usually the charger won't charge to full before the battery actually has any problem so it's a little hard to test for an average person. But yes in general you want your voltage as close to maximum at full charge. That is the key indicator of battery health.

    Great video bud. I buy and sell used scooters and your information is right on point currently on my 5th scooter a Dualtron thunder 1 which i got used in perfect conditiob for 1600$ with 2500 miles. It now has over 6000 miles and still holds a full charge. Currently at 257 charge cycles. Possibly gonna pick up a storm limited for 2000$ with less than 1000 miles. It has the updated motors and controller and dosnt have the top soeed issues that occured in the early batches. Or my other option is a Dualtron Ultra 2 UP 72v 40ah from voro for $2185 as its a floor model and has 36 miles. I feel that the storm limited is such a good deal at 2000$ as all the others are over $3500+ i check marketplace multiple times a day always looking for that big score on a monster scooter. Thanks for sharing this with the community i know that early on i didnt know any of this stuff but now when i show up to buy i usually know more about the scooter than the owners themselves lol

    I understand what you’re saying, but we’re not gonna open the scooter and taking multimeter to the battery to make sure that it contains a slightly above average voltage.
    And that is not how amp work it might be at the right volt, but the original amount of power ?

    I wished i heard some of the things before.
    I ended up with a 1000W rear hub motor scooter for just 160€, its battery is somewhat ok (about 200 cycles, first use in 2021), but the outside looks pretty bad, even bent suspension fork on one side.
    The issue was i wanted a very affordable, yet somewhat "powerful" scooter, range not that needed. Around 1000W sounded like a sweet spot to be on the budget side.
    I ordered some replacement parts including some bearings, built my own LiPo battery pack for the scooter (additionally to the original battery to carry in the backpack) and am currently in the process of disassembling the scooter entirely before putting it back together with new road tires instead of the worn offroad ones, new brakes, suspension fork etc.
    All in all, i have basically paid about 600€ including an additional DIY battery pack and the major parts of the scooter are new/good. This type of scooter would have costed me 1000€ at absolute least brand new, and i got even a multi purpose battery pack additionally which fits in the scooter for another 48V 12Ah.

    If You have to pick one scooter under 1000 or entry level scooter for first time what would it be? or what should I look into I been looking at Gotrax or Hiboy S2. What do u think

      I had a hiboy max pro last year, definitely get that it has 11 inch tires so much smoother over bumps then everything else that style!

    "thats like 7-8 years worth of riding"
    in my case i've almost doubled that in 1.5 years 😂, at 12500mi/ 20,000km on my main Chinesium scooter rn (Obarter X3), did VESC mod almost as soon as i got it though (within 60 miles of riding it) as i didn't like the throttle response of the squarewave controllers
    but still, those Flipsky's (75100 Alu PCB) are holding up well, heck even the Chinese 1kWh pack is holding up really well IMO for what it is, i didn't expect it taking these kinds of power and regen daily for such a long time
    i did all tire replacements and even motor ball bearing replacement myself, i'm only on my second pair of pads, i mainly use VESC's regen

    • @ScootaGang

      Hahaha I know for the average person that is realistic, for us scooter addicts we have to ride non stop and the miles can add up much quicker! I've still never had a battery issue in all my riding, across the board they are solid on these higher power scooters.

      @@ScootaGang But voltage sag is pretty annoying on many scooters still, at least all what i have seen including my own one now.
      My DIY battery pack i built for my scooter has same capacity and voltage, but since they are 26x 6000mAh LiPo pouch cells (2 in parallel, 13S) and rated for high discharge current (i think 80/160C) they voltage sag is so much less than any other scooter i have seen so far.
      This battery pack can probably release >1500 Amps short circuit, so i wasnt expecting anything different than the barely existing voltage sag i saw.
      Im just wondering how much of a fire hazard those LiPos are... i never had more than 6S 5Ah in a single vehicle before and those were RC.

    most of the things you said are an easy quick fix, bolt replacement or brake adjustment prior to sell. And you would be none the wiser.

    • @ScootaGang
      @ScootaGang  Před 3 měsíci

      Exactly, you should be looking for a scooter that the owner has done the basic maintenance, same as any other vehicle. That or call them out and offer them less money because you will have to do it soon.
      Ive repaired some used scooters where the brakes come in and there are no pads left. The piston went straight through the metal backing and it was metal on rotor. The whole caliper gets destroyed and you will end up paying way more to fix it simply because they were lazy and didnt do any brake pads the whole life of the scooter. Def the type of problem most people want to avoid dealing with when you just bought a scooter.

    Everything is repairable on a scooter, stuff that is a pain, is the battery, controller and stem wobble. Get used to maintaining it. Be proactive and buy tools and spare parts ahead of time.

    get one from someone that is aware of lithium care such as temperature how much to charge it.
    I am currently looking at some from battery expert store. That is their name.
    They’re keeping them in the sun in charged all the time don’t buy these.

  • @bencoelho3
    @bencoelho3 Před 3 měsíci +2

    Another important thing: don't buy something that is "I've had it for 2 years but only done 50km". The biggest killer for a battery is it not being used.
    (Also, sorry for going into kilometres. From Australia 😂)
