    The best just keeps on getting better. Since LG has left the smartphone market, Sony is the only sensible brand daring enough not to catch on the trend and be different and I totally love that.

    • @Roomer645
      @Roomer645 Před 2 lety +19

      Not to catch on the trend ???
      They do not supply the charger or even a cable !
      Sure, the headphone jack is there but most people enjoy their wireless systems anyways.
      SD card slot is fine BUT if you use it you lose dual sim, why not have both like some phones.
      They SHOULD catch on the software support trend. Sony is way behind with just 2 years of OS support.
      They are really lacking.
      And ofcourse the poor heat management is a shame.
      Ever used a Sony and made videos ?? It always heated up quickly, and by the looks of it this will happen even sooner now and hamper performance.

I started to use the camera app pro and manually select the shutter speed and other settings. And in the night I can take some really cool pictures. This feature is available on entry level & midrange, it should be compulsory on flagships as well. In my case also, i store old psx psp ps2 and nintendo games on sd card and have no issues running on emulator. I mean having an sd card gives you the option to expand the storage when your internal storage are nearly full rather than having to buy a new phone. Plus upgrading phones with larger storage are usually more expensive as well compared to upgrading sd card slot. My previous phone died due to water damage and I manage to salvage most of my photos, documents etc since it was stored in sd card. However those data stored in the internal storage was unrecoverable.

    Sony is a hardware and media company first, and its seen in their smartphone designs that don't come with notches or other cutouts (except for the Xperia Ace 2 for certain regions). If you look closely, the Mark series of smartphones look like a small OLED TV. And TVs are used for entertainment. You only need to focus on what you are watching on a high resolution screen without the distractions of a cutout when using full screen mode, and hear the sound produced by its dual front-facing stereo speakers or your wired headphones. The design came from Sonys Omnibalance philosophy from a few years ago and it still looks modern and minimalist until today. They also retained the notification LED because common sense dictates that you can still use your eyes to find out that you have a message or unanswered call even if you are not using always-on screen features.

      Wouldn't go that far like, but it's better than the Samsung and Apple offerings IMO. The one thing the Xperia excels at (which is, the thing it gets marked down on!) is taking true to life shots. So, night-time is dark, not all bright and lit up like these weird *night-modes*. Part of the reason people don't like it is because of how determined SONY are at preserving the actual colour and light level of a scene.

    The things I really like about what Sony is doing with their Xperia phones
    1) They are genuinely listening to the feedback from the people using their phones.
    2) They are constantly improving their camera system, and from what I can see they are truly getting closer and closer to melding their Alpha cameras and Xperia phones. The photos and videos from the mark IV are looking impressive. I honestly believe that in another generation or two (mark v or vi) SONY is going to have one hell of a camera system on their phones. Not only delivering the quality but also uniquely their own with a distinct approach and experience.
    Despite the smear jobs by idiots like Marque Brown and his ilk SONY is IMHO doing some of the most exciting stuff right now with smartphone photography.

      Sony has the most natural photos that looks flat. Hdr is a joke. Almost no one has the time to manually go edit each photos. A phone camera should automatically process it to minimize edits in post. But I'll agree sony has the best physical device out of all. Perfect size and aspect ratio, great build. Screen at 4k is overkill but i prefer no notch/punchhole approach. Micro sd and headphone jack still present. And the greatest bummer of them all: $1600 price tag

    • @marcino457
      @marcino457 Před 2 lety +11

      I genuinely don't get the Sony consumer base. They essentially make phones for tech nerds who view themselves as professionals, because after 10 minutes of adjusting a photo they'd just taken, it looks 80% as good as something an iPhone or a Samsung phone puts out automatically after pressing the shutter button. Sony phone design principles are absolutely idiotic, forgive the hyperbole. These phones have nice specs on paper, but in practice what is the point of a 4k120 display WITHOUT DYNAMIC REFRESH RATE if after a couple of hours the battery is dead. What's the point of these fancy camera sensors, if the competition's software processing absolutely massacres what Sony has to offer, not even mentioning the fact that it still doesn't have night mode. What's the point of almost matching the iPhones in Geekbench, if your chip is running so hot that it has to heavily throttle for you to be even able to hold your phone (that one is on Qualcomm I guess). Like this phone is $1600, and it will only have 2 years of software support, what an absolute joke.

    Currently own the Xperia III it's a great phone the music quality destroys iPhone especially if you have a Sony stereo system the display is easily the best I've seen in any smart phone the camera I'd say is on par with it's competitors however it needs a dedicated night mode that doesn't matter as much because let's be honest most of not all photos/videos come out bad unless you are in a well lit area no matter what phone you have and it's own operating system would make it perfect I'd also like to see Sony make smart watches if they really want to compete they still have some ways to go before they reach perfection every year it seems they get closer I'd really like to see their on os tho Google's is not the way but other than those two things the phone is amazing fits in the hand great you can put it in your pocket and not worry about it falling out also in my opinion it's the best point and shoot camera available due to the camera button being on the side as well as lightning fast face recognition makes this phones camera a beast.

If they don't fix that by the official release it'd be a sad story because other than that it looks like a really good phone. I'd wish the SD didn't share the 2nd sim slot cuz I actually need 2 sims all the time but I guess I can live with that. The design is probably the best out of all phones atm although ofc that is subjective. I'm not one to consider paying this much for a phone when a midranger for 5 times less money would pretty much suffice my needs and yet I did consider it with this one if not for the thermal issues.

      90% of the users are not able to use it to the full extend in manual mode.

    I don't think I expected noise on the zoom lenses. Am I missing out on something here? I also don't think some software processing would be the worst thing in the world on xperias at all. Imagine having the hardware and good software, would they have an unbeatable camera? I'd think so.

      Sony can ot in2processing. They don't even do it on their mirrorless cameras so why would they invent an entirely new division just for their phones? They still can't even make a decent camera UI, should probably do that first

    Quite an amazing phone! Sad that they didn't opt for a Mediatek chipset or anything else than the latest throttling flagships of Qualcomm. Honestly, when I see either SD888 or SD8 Gen1 on a phone, it's a turn off. We don't have to make this a bigger issue than it really is, but a phone this premium and expensive would need an equally well done processor.
    Also, I like the pro camera stuff, and I wouldn't necessarily call 3,5 mm jack or microSD slot old school, since those features are meant to make life easier - yes, easier. The new trend of not having these features is only limiting, which is not progress unfortunately as neither are wireless devices necessarily (at this point and time).
