Sony Xperia 1 IV vs Sony A1 | How Far Have Smartphones Come?

  • Can the Sony Xperia 1 IV keep up with the Sony A1 in video performance? In this video we show how far smartphone technology has come in the camera department, now being able to shoot 4K 120fps on all three lenses on the back of the Xperia 1 IV. Of course, we don't expect the phone to out compete Sony's flagship mirrorless camera, the A1, but it was fun to show how much the gap has closed. The Xperia 1 IV is no joke when it comes to being a real option for filmmakers, videographers, content creators, and live streamers. The 4K 120fps is super buttery, the internal stabilization is revolutionary, and the auto-focus is everything we've come to expect from Sony.

Update, I cancelled my pre-order couple of weeks ago. No reviewers online talks about the over heating issue, but there's too many user reports that says there's overheating issue. Even a software update doesn't completely mitigate the issue. And for 1700 USD, I don't find it worth getting a phone where the battery life severely deteriorates from Day 1 due to so much heat generation. I'm avoiding the SD 8 Gen 1 chip in general.

I would say that they hit the audience in another way than someone that is really focused on photography, those two phones got better and more helpful software that makes it a more ideal setup for most people lets be honest here. I do think the Xperia doesnt get a fair review by a majority of content creators but they do highlight some of the issues the phone has which is also ignored by the once that is more leaned towards the phone.
I do think you can get some great images with the Xperia but I also believe that if you put a S22 Ultra and an Xperia 1 IV in the hands of a normal consumer and tells them to go and take 100 photos with each the overall quality will be way higher on the s22 ultra since the phone does all the work for you its basiclly very easy mode while Xperia is hard mode to get ideal photos you need to setup and alot of photos during each day is impulsive when you see something you want a photo on.
Personally I've choosen to look at specific areas like macro shots and night time the Xperia doesnt really handle well at all, notice how this review didnt shoot anything outdoors during nights or completely avoided going into macro mode and really close up photos. Thats because he knows the limitation on those areas.
With the S22 Ultra or Iphone 13 Pro Max you get what you see, with Xperia the quality will differ alot more and sad to say most people won't be able to get photos like we see in reviews made by people who works with photography on a daily basis.

I have zv1 and just ordered this phone. I got to match with my zv1 shots, I dont always like pulling a camera out, this way i can just get the phone and everything will hopefully match.

I feel like the 4k 24fpps 5min57s in looks like utter shit tbh, the fact you don't fully show the video, or show more examples suggests you think the same regardless of what you said? I like the look of the phone but issues like having fixed focal lengths inside each lens and the 24fps not looking amazing is offputting considering the price

Sony marketing team is best than its quality and reliability, I am owning Sony expera 1 iii. it gets hot and shut down the camera app, due to over heating. Maximum 2 minutes outdoor 4k video shoot with the phone, the camera shut down due to overheating issues. Reality hurts,

Congratulations, you are the only person in the world to have an Xperia 1 IV that does not overheat LOL

Not very far, since smartphone sensors are still the same small size... Everyone who uses their brain knows it's more about "using make-up" to improve phone footage.
Until they don't change the sensors, we will only see tiny and marginal improvements.

Why sony isnt just put the reverse engineering on their smartphone, like.. make a profesional mirrorless with phone form factor and give them android os. Why 🤣

Was this video sponsored by Sony at all? Man I hope one day Sony make attachable lenses for the phones that only fit Xperia devices.
Also shout-out to the T* coating as apparently this is one of the defining features for clarity apposed to plastic on every other phone. I won't buy a phone without it now.
