Exactly, however we feel good and well rather than dumb. Although there is slight change in motivation when alone or with other runners. Anyways that slightest motivation change is lost aswell as soon as engaged in my workouts or run.

This was awesome Sarah. I felt a sense of pride in you doing this, especially when you said “doing this for the girls”, because what Florence did was not only truly magnificent, but revolutionary for female runners, and here you are today doing the exact same challenge! Thank you for paying homage to a great lady, you did brilliantly! 💪🏻

I’ll hazard a wild guess that Florence wasn’t carrying a selfie stick when she did her run! There’s also a difference in mindset between treating the run as a speeded up long distance run, as Sarah did, and did very well indeed, and what, I suspect, Florence did, which would have been an extended sprint.

If The Running Channel can get to Cheshire they should have a go at 'The Mow Cop Killer Mile' - one mile, 550 feet of climb. I don't think it's been run as a race for a few years but was quite an event in the 1980s/90s. Male record: 6:12 (Bashir Hussain, 1991); female record: 7:54 (Shireen Barbour, 1992).

I wonder if TRC can do the The Great Court Run at Trinity College, Cambridge, which was re-created in the film Chariots of Fire. From the College's website, this run "involves attempting to run around Great Court within the length of time that it takes the College clock to strike the hour of twelve, including the preparatory chiming of the four quarters and the two sets of twelve." Maybe even try with a relay team?

It's incredibly unlikely that Ilott did the run in 40 seconds while running in heavy traffic. That's 20 miles per hour. If she did it in 40 seconds (the time between the first and tenth strikes), she outran most modern sprinters - male and female - while literally jumping over cars. She can't have started with the first hour strike. I've tried to find any specific reference to when she started in any of the original accounts and can't actually find an original account that states it explicitly. Reporters of the time would have known better than to use the phrase "12 chimes", so that phrase is certainly a modern error that has cropped up in the retelling. If she started when the "Westminster Quarters" (the chime tune that plays before the hour strikes) ended, she would have had another 13 seconds. (I pulled up a video of Big Ben chiming noon, and there are 13 seconds between the end of Westminster Quarters and the first hour strike.) This would bring her time to 53 seconds, or 15mph and still a whopping accomplishment. Well, 54 seconds if you count the bonus second given by the speed of sound delay. =]
