    Would love to talk to you guys about my journey into running as a blind runner at 50 and my quest to try to get a London GFA time. Trying to lobby London Marathon to have para GFA times like some of the other major marathons do but until I can get an answer from them I’m continuing to try to chase the able bodied time. Any help with my lobbying would be gratefully received

    Actually being and Tom's level is a very good position - you can see huge improvements in very short time. Unlike after you run for several years and any further improvements are very hard.

    Andy as you are the boss, After your 1* rating can I try and give you some constructive advice please. For some context I have been watching from the start and still enjoy your channel. I know this is the structure and content for the podcast BUT can you dial Rick and Sarah down a bit as Rick can’t be that dumb and Sarah can’t be that annoying. Obviously it is for the banter and entertainment but get them to dial it back just a touch. P.S. was Ricks last running watch a sundial 🤣

    Pressure indeed. I have run Stockholm Marathon 8 times. 7 of those, I was sick beyond belief. I guess it is migraine or something stress related to the task at hand. Oh, and yesterday was no exception. But very, very happy to have reached the goal line. Next year will be an hour faster. Thanks guys, for all the inspiration!

    I'm two weeks into a very ambitious 10k PB, down from 61 minutes (with a traffic stops) to 45 which is an even faster pace than on my 5k in 24 minutes. But it's ten more weeks to go and the Garmin Coach is still optimistic. My pulse went down over the last months where I smashed my 5k from 30 to 24 minutes, so I should hit this 10k target and improve the 5k along the way

    So i used to smoke cannabis for 15 years (age 13 to 28) And the only thing that ever scratched that itch was running. Not full on, but a mile at just under a real heart punding run got me where i needed to be. Now im at a point of long distance running and it takes about 20 minutes (2.5 miles) before i get there or an 8 minute mile at near full power. Bow that i know its the endocannabinoids working it makes so much more sense.

  • @stephendavidcampbell

    Go Tom! Be patient, consistent and kind to yourself and your body. Let your whole system make those adaptations as it absorbs the training, don't push too hard. I came from plus 60 10k races 13 years ago and now average around 40min. Lots of ups and downs along the way, but am still loving the journey and sense of health and fitness it's given me. It will be hard work at times, but it should also be lots of fun and fulfilling more often than not. Good luck again, you're going to reach a lot of people on this series, and we're really rooting for you!

    I ended up self medicating my Achilles issues, tried shielding it for a long time and it would hurt whenever I ran. So after some reading and finding out that tendons won't heal unless you put them under pressure, I did micro runs, like 1 mile until it hurt, then over the next couple of days I would walk around on tiptoes and do heel raises while standing about until it stopped hurting then went on another micro run. Basically repeating that and increasing the distance to ride the pain wave to freedom. (Disclaimer: I'm not a health professional!)

  • @CaptainBrash
    @CaptainBrash Před dnem

    Pretty crappy giving a one star review which is basically "I'm not the target audience" I learned a lot from TRC and now largely watch it for entertainment and go elsewhere when I want white boards and graphs etc. Not that the videos aren't informative but I'm in the learning how to program and getting into the nitty gritty phase of running but still watch all of the TRC content.

    The physiological expression for nerves and excitement are exactly the same, the only difference is one is associated with fear, the other with joy. Even telling yourself "gah, Im so pumped to be here!", when you're absolutely terrified, already helps! Also, useless banter is what makes podcasts with several hosts stand out! Keep that roast going!

    Doing more racing has helped my self-inflicted pressure. Having children and responsibilities it can be hard to find time to attend a race, I would put pressure on myself to do well, as people were going out of their way to babysit for me. I used to shake with nerves for an hour or so before and then feel dread on the start line. Now down to only a slight shake and feel absolutely calm and relaxed on the start line 😅
