The bulky guy keeping up is a beast!
At 60 in 2022, Steve Moneghetti ran 15:52 for 5k. 18 years of training left to prepare for that record! Seriously though, well done Andy. World Masters is calling.
I ran at that meet, Collingwood Classic (Melbourne) I was in one of the slowest heats though!
As someone who used to run 16.30 and is struggling to go much faster than 20.00 right now, this is really encouraging. And I joined a running club for the first time in my life last week!
Hype video as always, 5K is always the sweet distance for new runners but relatively nightmare when you are getting serious into running!
Well done Andy! still got it indeed :)
He really does!
3:57 can we just rewind for a minute and appreciate how beautiful this path is for the shakeout run? That lush green. No cars. (Not even crazy hills of North London). OK - resuming play now.
Well done Andy! I reduced my goals a few weeks ago because i felt it was impossible, but after seeing this, and hearing the words you shared at the end.....its GAME ON!!
You can do it!
Let's goo! 15:33. That's blistering speed. Amazing work on the workouts and the videos. Maybe you can go for the sub 15 minute 5k? I mean, at least that's what I would go for in a situation like this. It's videos like these that really inspire me to train for XC season and to break 18 minutes in the 5k, 11 minutes for the 2 mile, and the classic 5 minute mile. Keep up the amazing work guys, way to go Andy!
Challenge accepted
@@runningchannel Heyyy lets goo, I didn't actually think you would respond, thanks for the reply. And if this challenge is actually accepted, I wish you goodluck! Have a great day Andy! :D
@@Bweyg Who knows. Maybe this was Rick or Sarah who accepted the challenge in Andy's name. :D
@@asharablack That's true, I didn't even think about that. :D
Amazing effort Andy, very inspiring. I'm 61 and have been running for 43 years. When I was in my 40's I trained for a 5k and ran 27 mins PB. Recently I did 2 Ultra's and now want to try and bring my 5k back down to 28 mins. I have trained specifically for it and knocked 2mins 30sec off my recent PB to go under 30 mins. I know I can get there with continued specific training. Bring it on!
Fascinating to watch Andy's running technique. The way he seems to glide round the course belies the supreme effort he's putting in. Very inspirational.
I use to listen to the Running Channel all of the time because of Andy. If he were a bigger part of the content, I'd come back and listen/watch.
You should watch the podcasts, he’s very present
Andy is featured very regularly and if you want to listen to him every week then check out our podcast!
One star review?
@@runs.long_notfastYeah, all that useless banter with annoying Sarah and stupid Rick 😂
@@livewire1957239 Wow...have nothing nice to say, then say nothing.
Love it. Totally get it Andy; if something feels a bit daunting or unreachable, then that's the right challenge. It's a mental challenge more than the physical in many many ways. It's all about self-belief over self-doubt. I'm 57 and recently improved five different distance PBs (1k, 5k,10k, 21k, 42k) by 8-10% within an 11-week block. The concept seemed impossible; all the training sites said 7% improvement was the outside max. Believe, train, execute.
Got to love the “I’m not doing the shake out run fast” when he is doing 5m/km
My PB is 7m per km 😂
Amazing effort and well deserved result!
The hardwork, discipline and absolute mental resilience to just push through on such a hard effort really pays with a bang on result.
awesome job Andy! thanks for taking us on the journey from excitement to doubt to success!
Brilliant 💪🙂👍
As a 58 year old trying to break 18:30 I can completely relate to the thoughts you have going into the race.
18:30 for a 58 year old is really fast tough
@@jellekraak7930And as a 58 year old for me try to break 27 minutes is really tough ..(but I'll get there one day ) 😄
@@carlcblake860 you sure will 👍
Get after it you legend!! Is that on a parkrun course? If so, which one?
@@theinconsequentialrunner trying...but not on a Parkrun 🙂
Unreal Andy!!! Love the channel. You guys are such an inspiration
Brilliant! Nicely done, Andy.
So awesome! Congrats Andy, has to be an amazing feeling
I can totally relate to the feeling of the nerves evaporating the second the race starts. Well said!
Well done Andy, you have absolutely got it. Amazing.
Congratulations Andy!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Fantastic!! Congratulations Andy, epic time, I’d be buzzing too!!!
Still got it, indeed! Inspiring and so much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Absolutely fantastic effort Andy! Making it look easy as always. Superb 🎉
Well done Andy! I know when you achieve something, it feels so great.
Now I understand about the fields! 👍
Andy, this is such an insane challenge you have accomplished. You are an inspiration to all runners.
Inspiring! Happy for you Andy! Well done!
Incredible job, Andy! I was cheering you on out loud whilst watching the video (I do this in every Running Channel video that features a race - anyone else?)
I was training for a 5k but got sidelined by an injury so for now I'm focusing on recovery and returning to my previous volume without re-injury. Got a half-marathon on the books for October and hoping that will still be doable🤞
Well done, Andy! Amazing.
Well done Andy! Amazing achievement. An inspiration to us all as always. 😊
Happy for you Andy! I'll never be the world class athlete you are, but I could feel every bit of doubt, nerves, and euphoria! Well done!🥇
Outstanding Andy - Inspirational stuff man 👍
Amazing Andy, well done!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s amazing! Great work Andy!!🎉
Great job Andy. Inspired me to go for sub-20!!
Absolute beast. Proud of you!
Way to go Andy!! Congrats!
Awesome is not enough Andy, you looked amazing and think you have far more to give if you toed the line for another 5K in the future! 😊
Well done Andy, you did amazing! Congrats with this time, it's bloody fast
Excellent video; and yes Andy, you still have all the mental resilience, the physical burst of energy, but more importantly, a greater wisdom than in youth! Well done on this fantastic outcome! Looking forward to your upcoming achievements on TRC.
That’s an amazing time, congrats 👏🏻 💪🏻
Wow, sooooo good, great job Andy, love the video style!SUPERSTAR🎉
Wow wow!! You are such an incredible athlete! Congratulations Andy that was awesome!
Congratulations that was fantastic. Very inspiring
Congrats Andy! You killed it!
Holy smokes! This is literally TWICE as fast as my 5K time 😢
With those metaspeed shoes you'd gain at least a couple of minutes
And just how many people are as good at being you as you are?… I’ll wait 🤷🏻♂️ don’t compare, celebrate and understand anything is possible 💙
@@nathanprice4031 I MUST compare. That is what drives me to do better.
@@nathanprice4031That comma means we shouldn’t celebrate any of the mentioned things in that sentence.
Me too, but I’m also nearly twice Andy’s age!
Cool! That video really motivates me to keep trying to go faster.
Dang Andy. You crushed it! Way to go!
Well done Andy!!
Well done Andy! Brilliant! Many congratulations on that awesome post retirement PB 🎉🍾👏🏻👏🏻
Nice one Andy, really motivating advice too!
What a nice thing to find out about yourself!
Thanks Andy, this was really inspirational. I got my 2nd 5k coming up in 3 days from a 20 year break. 3 months of being dialed in every day to empty the tank. Just getting started.
You're amazing Andy. Great work!! Inspiring to think about doing things that are just a little scary!!
Really enjoyed this video. Good to see Andy still has that agressive knee lift. Heres to chasing fast times 🍻
Once an Olympian, always an olympian.Way to go Andy!🎉
Thank you!!
Congrats Andy!
Amazing ending 🎉🎉🎉
Legend!
inspiring 🙌
Well done Andy! It's reassuring to see that even with all your experience you also feel nervous before a race. Kudos to you matey that was awesome running! 🎉💪👏👏
Great run Andy
Congratulations Andy 😊
Great job, Andy! And that speech at the end . . .wow . . . ready to run through a brick wall, now!
That competitive nature is always going to be there, Andy. We can tell in your race videos how you build up a nervousness about performing 😅 Well done!
Awesome job Andy
I used to run cross country. Now almost 8 years later I am back into running and struggling to break 25 minutes. Amazing to see at any age you can be an absolute monster in the 5k. Pumped me up.
Well done Andy!
Congratulations Andy! Odd Downs is where I did my first duathlon. That mild slope is quite deceptive when running and also cycling. So good to see you run there! 🎉
You're a star Andy ⭐
Amazing, looks effortless. Still got it!
Lovely track, great time btw ❤
4 lap course is interesting. Well done, I used your 5km plan this year which definitely had a few session that scared me, and helped me get a new PB. Now i want to see just how close to 20mins i can get
Wow Andy very impressive!
Awesome content, and congratulations 🎉
Thanks for watching
No. 88! Love this guy's running form! 😊
Inspiring to see someone get out there to go on a mental and physical challenge. I'm training for a pb in the marathon in oktober I set over 8 years ago. It's going to be hard and I have no idea if it is realistic. But for sure will make every training and week count and be ready the day I'm standing on the startline.
YES YES YES Andy🎉
Incredible effort
Good job Andy 🎉
Kudos to Andy! I'm going to take another crack at a sub-20 5k myself. I have been trying on and off for years, but I'm closer than ever before.
Like a gazelle. I wish I had that in me. Well done, sir!
You DO still have it (one might posit that you had never lost it). I refer you to the story of retired grandmother Michelle Rohl, 58 years old, who qualified on Friday for the US Olympic 20km Race Walk team this past Friday evening in Eugene, OR at the US team trials. I'm almost 56 and, with my wife and daughter, we are all beginning training together to improve our health and fitness. It has only been a week, and change is difficult (darn, that Newton's Third Law) but we will persevere. Well done, Andy!
Well done Andy! Superb run. Inspiration for me to try and break sub 19 mins :)
Nice. Congrats.
wow well done!!
Great job 👏
Superb effort sub 16!. Class athlete is permanent
So so true
Well done
I ran that race back in April. Completely out of my depth. I absolutely ran the first downhill way too fast to keep in touch. Well done Andy.
Well done Andy 🏃♂️
This looks like the track the GTN team does their challenges on! Are we going to see a crossover?
Top effort. Great vid.
Thanks 👍
Congrats! Haven't broken 20 mins for a 5k yet but haven't been trying, focused on marathons these days, thinking of having a crack at it soon maybe
Chuffed for you Andy!
I ran my first sub 20 (19:54) this weekend! I have the same shoes as you. Next goal 19:30!!! I’m age 34 so not sure how much more improvements I can make. But I also started running plan for a few months only.
if you're doing sub-20s at age 34 and you're just starting, then there are PLENTY of improvements you can make!
But sub-20 is really good for amateur runners.
❤️
Furthest ive traveled is from Florida to Massachusetts to run a half marathon in my hometown. Almost 1200 miles by car. (1900 km).
Hey Andy, with all your kids, I was surprised you didn't have a commercial kitchen. Cheers from Oz.
