      When I was in high school, which was over 20 years ago, we saw movies like Dead Poets Society and Swing Kids as a part of our collective education. I love that he brought up River Phoenix and Gus Van Sant. My Own Private Idaho is absolutely fantastic. Keanu Reeves is one the actors from that same generation. He's an amazing character! These guys are the actors that truly made a significant impact in my life.
      It's nice to see when actors like Ethan Hawke opens up. He's alive when he speaks which deliver these things with an impact. It's beautiful!

    Ethan Hawke and Robin Williams worked together in "Dead Poets Society"
    Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman worked together in "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead"
    His feelings about both actors are incredibly thoughtful and genuine. He is not one of those actors who pretend like people that suddenly passed away meant more to him than they really did because it's the popular thing to do. He doesn't feign sadness and adoration for actors he didn't know. It's clear how much they meant to him both professionally and personally.
    And this is why Charlie is the best: He shows a clip, asks a question and just lets Hawke run with it instead of trying to cut in with pointless banter.

      @fajita2 Před 9 lety +11

      averyaugust Absolutely, he is wonderfully insightful here about these extraordinary colleagues of his, and I loved what he had to say. I also want to add that he says something extremely important about depression and creative people--and about pretty much anyone who works very hard and passionately in his or her career. "It comes at a cost". It can be draining to devote so much of your skills and talents to do great things. We as audiences and receivers of those talents can so easily appreciate those efforts, but we really should pay attention to those moments when those brilliant people are not "on" and are drained by their work. That's when you can see what is really going on underneath.

And the parts we have chosen I'm glad someone has told our stories.And the depression of being drained to fit in this world and being mature about the seriousness of life. It's a constant death that keep me fighting for answers of why me Lord,of myself I'm nothing.

    Ethan is not my favourite actor, but he is a guy who has many stories to tell, so it is the most interesting of his, the way he tells an anecdote and you can't stop to stare at him listening what he tells, so that's why he's so special. Besides, he's a lucky man because, he's been surrounded by greatest actors, such as Robin Williams & River Phoenix.

    This made me think of Mr. Hawke like he’s a normal person. I suppose they are. But it’s not always apparent.

    Hawke is one of those actors who could have taken the RomCom route and rode his looks into a lucrative easy career. Instead, he has taken chances and made interesting and sometimes great art. Actors like Hawke keep cinema and theater viable. Thanks for doing that for people like me who love cinema. PS-doing a movie about Flannery O’Connor will hold you in good stead with me for an eternity-one of the great writers of the last 100 years.

    that was as genuine as an actor can get from what I've seen, not the usual bandwagon bullshit
