      Well, Dead Poets Society is an absolute stinker. Ham-fisted, boorishly obvious and schmalzy; one of the most inexplicably and severely overrated films I've ever seen. But Hawke is an incredible actor and filmmaker (The Good Lord Bird is just totally fantastic) and I agree that barring DPS (which he was least responsible for!), his batting average is just out of this world. Very, very talented and superlative taste in projects.

They really capture the maturity level, complications, ideals, etc. of the character's ages, and while to me they're snapshots of their exact years and times of my life, there's still an incredibly timeless aspect to them.

      Thing is in some ways they're kind of starting to remind me of like Inside The Actors Studio, but when it got to seasons like 7, 8 and 9, and so on. For as often as the series is being done, you're kind of running out of actors that truly warrant such a deep dive. I've seen some thumbnails for ones with actors I like perfectly fine, but "their iconic roles"? Iconic? Some of these people they've featured have accumulated MAYBE 2-3 really indelible characters so far, at best. Or, I guess they can do more, just don't pretend it's a slew of incredible roles.

    This interview/analysis has proven me wrong. I always really liked him as an actor, but always had the impression he was up his own butt. Seems as though he's much more well rounded and down to earth than I gave him credit for. Glad I'm not always right, lol.

    I can't still believe that he was not nominated as best actor for First Reformed, but Rami Malek and Bradley Cooper did. The Oscars suck.

    • @Kaipyro67ALT
      @Kaipyro67ALT Před 5 lety +11

      Rami Malek was great, but Bradley Cooper has never been that great to me. He's fine, but he's never been anything other than "pretty good" to me. Ethan Hawke needs some more recognition as a talented artist. That being said, the Oscars ain't fair. Toni Colette is phenomenal but doesn't win awards or turn heads at her name and she was brilliant in Hereditary. No nomination. Often times the best movies don't win awards and remain the runner up or just an honourable mention.

    I've been watching 35 of the 44 videos in the Iconic Character breakdown playlist on this channel over the past couple of days, and man are there a lot of movies I need to see.
    Haven't seen a lot of Ethan Hawke's movies tbh. I've saw White Fang (which I didn't even know he starred in until very recently) when I was a kid, I've seen Training Day, Magnificent 7 when that came out, and I've seen Assault on Precinct 13 and Sinister, but I actually think that's it.
    Really need to catch up on my movies at some point :D
