Ethan Hawke wanting his family to watch a 7 hour long Russian movie on vacation is peak Ethan Hawke.
Well he's always been a pretentious twat
Luckily Uma dumped him 😂
Peakan Hawke
Hawken Peake
out here lookin' like Last Samurai
Ethan Hawke taking Uma Thurman to see a Cassavetes film on their first date is peak Ethan Hawke
And Husbands of all of his films. The meanest and most uncomfortable Cassavetes, which really takes the cake when it comes to films as endurance tests.
and at the film forum nonetheless!

I love that Ethan Hawke kept bringing War And Peace on family vacations hoping that the fam would want to watch it 😂
Would they have any time left for the actual vacation after watching it?

@@MrTranzformer1 Do you even English, brah?
@@MrTranzformer1 no offense but Iron Man is for kids
My advice for you is to go and watch some real Cinema movies from the good old days instead of Disney shit, there’s plenty of them out there waiting to be re-discovered but if that’s not to your liking and only like Disney shit then it’s your total loss kid
@@MrTranzformer1Lol clearly, you're the kid 😂
This is a delightful dynamic.
Maya was born in 1998 but she’s a true film buff. Ethan and Uma raised her well.
Shes looks so much like her mother. Yet so much like her father.
Yeah, that's how genetics work.
Funny that@@grahamkristensen9301
She sounds like her mom but looks more like her dad. I always thought Uma's voice did't fit with the way she looked LOL but in Maya's case it's not that way.
Almost like she's their daughter
@@BatmanHQYT yeah maybe she is
Great to see Ethan and Maya hanging out in the Closet.
A lovely Father Daughter Day.
this was so dang wholesome, when they started singing "Turn Around" LOL
Yeah, beautiful.
Although the only correct line after "turn around" will forever be "Ninjas!" for me
Maya is a mix of Mom & Dad. They are sweet together.
Ethan looks so yang
That's usually how it works...

I love their relationship. Nice to see a father and daughter duo so engaging with each other and enjoying each others company.
Watching Ethan Hawke talk about his love for movies is always a pleasure.
He was quite the hearthrob for me growing up (90s teenager!), but he's so much more - he's a real artist. Proper substance! I love how passionate he is about art, books, film...inspiring guy.
As a father who loves sharing important movies with his kids, this was perfection. This is maybe my favorite of these Closet Picks. Would love to see more with 2 folks bouncing off each other like this.
Maya is the spitting image of Uma, I hope that she eventually does a movie with both of her parents.
Spitting image? Really?
@@jeshkam brainrot
They look obviously pretty similar. But Uma looks more like a model type while Maya is more a 'girl next door type'
Yes, because that's what the world needs. More nepotistic art.

In all seriousness, this was genuinely delightful
The SUSPIRIA remake made me a fan of Dakota Johnson.
She is actually reasonably talented

@@Melancthon7332 Is it untrue in this case?
@@Melancthon7332 Why do you hate it? It's a thing that has wanted a name for a hundred years.
"I watched it on a plane and it really got me through a long flight" thats the most backhanded compliment ever 😂
I'm going to very respectfully disagree on that one. Twice a year I face a 14 hour flight and it's very difficult for me to find films which I actually want to watch (because I've already seen the ones I'm interested in). So if a film can keep me engaged during arguably the worst bits of my year, it's doing something right.
Moon was one. The Liberace movie was another. There have been a few, but they're rare.
How is that backhanded? It's a genuine compliment.
@@al201103Check out FMoviesz, countless movies and TV shows to get you through.
There's no hint of backhand. Some people seem to look for negativity that isn't even there.
that's what i thought i loved it such a classic daughter move. I really love Maggie's Plan I'm very surprised they have that quality of film on planes
Picnic at Hanging Rock, My Brilliant Career, and Wings of Desire are what made me into the person I am today..
You have excellent taste❤
😬
Excellent films! 👍
Nice! I live not far from Hanging Rock.
Blood Simple
Badlands
A Streetcar Named Desire
Citizen Kane
Marathon Man
The irony of Ethan mentioning Dead Poets Society while climbing up on the step stool!
You mean, "the appropriateness".
Ethan is so on point about Peter Weir - every film he made is worth watching. Sad to hear that he has officially retired.
Hopefully he'll come out of retirement if he finds the right project
Master & Commander.
Tremendous.
Russ’s best role.

When the doctor is doing surgery on himself😱
She looks and sounds so much like Uma.
Like father, like daughter.
Also, Maya Hawke's film knowledge is impressive. Shows you that her parents raised her right and that she also has the will to study the history of film. Excellent choices!
It's funny, you kind of expect movie stars kids to at least be somewhat familiar with lots of films, but many are not.
@@scottboswell6406I’ve seen interviews with directors whose knowledge is shockingly limited. Thank God for Criterion!
I swear every time I hear about Kicking and Screaming in the CC my knee-jerk reaction is “oh cool a Will Ferrell movie in the Collection”
Both Kicking and Screaming's are great films.
Dad energy: “There’s a stool here.”
I love that they kept that part in, haha. Very relatable "dad moment" for Ethan, lol
Such a wonderful treat to be able to watch the Hawke's in action!!! Thank you Ethan and thank you Maya. Please do more stuff like this.
I love these two nerding out together over films.
Wim said he was the first to be allowed in the closet a second time, now Ethan is in a second time and he has a Wim story!
Last weekend I actually got to meet Maya Hawke at a convention for a photo op. She was so wonderful and could not have been nicer. Love seeing her and her dad make their picks here.
Children of Paradise is probably the greatest French language film ever made. Very happy it got a shoutout here. I feel like it’s one of the most underrated and undertalked about movies out there.
One of the greatest in any language.
I'm glad she loves Altman's movies as much as I do
My favorite Altman movie is Cookie’s Fortune.
My drama teacher was in An Angel At My Table. We're very proud of it here in NZ. My favourite Campion film.
My favorite Campion film is Bright Star. 🌟
This is great! These two not only get on so well but have a genuine passion and knowledge of movies. Six minutes on CZcams… and I’m cheered and smiling. 😊
Amores Perros is in our face the whole time and they just pass it. It breaks my heart!
I don’t remember anything about that movie. But I remember it being an amazing film.
I´m a cinematographer from Pina Bausch City, Wuppertal in Germany, You two are so adorable. I grew up with Ethans Films, from Explorers to everything till today. Love
That was fun. One time at Sundance, for the screening of Almereyda's Hamlet, the guy behind me changed position of his legs and really kicked the back of my seat in the process of doing so. No apology or "excuse me." As I turned around to see who it was, there sat Ethan Hawke. Uma was next to him.
Well he could have apologized nonetheless.
Great taste. I am always amazed and excited by Ethans passion for cool movies
Ethan saying Kicking and Screaming is his favourite Baumbach is awesome. Baumbach really needs to work with Josh Hamilton AND Chris Eigeman again.
Where it all started. An all-time favorite movie of mine 🍻
It's a testament to Orson Welles that even though The Magnificent Ambersons was butchered in the edit by the studio it's still a masterpiece!
Yep. But I wouldn't say it was "butchered".
This is so wholesome, such an amazing father-daughter relationship and dynamic! And how the love for movies run in the family. Can't wait to see Wildcat!
I actually enjoyed this visit. At first, it was normal but listening to a father/daughter discussion on movies was priceless!
I’d happily watch the Hawke Family Film Hour!
The beauty of Roman Polanski's TESS (dedicated to Sharon Tate) is astonishing. It's even more impressive when you get to know, that director of photography (Geoffrey Unsworth) died on the set, and the picture was finished by another cinematographer (Ghislain Cloquet), and you can't see the difference between works of two of them. They won an Oscar by the way (beating Michael Chapman's Raging bull!)
And TESS has something else - one of the most natural beauties of cinema - NASTASSJA KINSKI.
Any time Maya wasn't facing the camera all I could see was Uma Thurman, she looks so much like her mother. This was great.
This is so sweet to watch! Love the conversation between them.
I've been on a Sissy Spacek kick myself recently going through a load of her films again. She really is one of the GOAT actresses. These two spoke about a lot of the same movies on the Letterboxd channel this week. I appreciate their love for Days Of Heaven, one of my favourites & the Criterion 4k blew my mind. Almost looked 3D at times with the color depths especially in the 'golden hour' shots.
Look up her talk show appearances promoting Coal Miner's Daughter, especially the ones with Levon Helm backing her up! Will instantly lift you up out of the doldrums.
If you haven't seen "Prime Cut" (1972) you're missing out.
Loving your channel Criterion, it’s a joy watching artists talk about films they enjoy!
The two of them singing "Turn Around" was absolutely adorable.
I adore Maya. She is the perfect mix of her parents. Interesting and intelligent.
These two are delightful to watch.
Their interactions are so refreshing and delighting you just know there has been so much kindness on this family.
Kicking and Screaming was brilliant! Noah Baumbach astutely captured the essence of aimless college graduates, some of whom never tend to leave their days of education behind. Also is a sharp critique on if your studies really ever translate to the occupation you pursue.
This was adorable, these two could start a film podcast together.
In the early 2000s we went to New York for a week, on the same day we saw Zadie Smith in one book shop, we saw Ethan Hawke doing a reading from his book, Ash Wednesday, in another.
This is so cute - I feel like we all peeked into ten different ongoing conversations among the Hawke family
Excellent Ethan. The closet of love!
Looking forward to seeing your collaboration with Maya on the Flannerly O’Conner film “Wildcat”.
This is a great channel for insight into movies I wouldn’t normally consider.
I could watch or listen to these two talk about movies for HOURS. They should start a podcast.
I met Ethan Hawke once in NYC and got to tell him what Before Sunset means to me. He’s very friendly and approachable. If I ever see him again, I’ll tell him he must be proud of how well his kid turned out. She’s great.
Watching the two of them together talking about movies is delightful. This is my favorite Closet Picks so far.
We are so back
Finally
Love how Maya is so into this that she's crawling on the floor and climbing the shelves!
This was so wholesome omg I love them! Their father-daughter relationship reminds me of my own relationship with my father. We both love movies and love recommending stuff to each other so we could discuss them together 😭❤️
They are so adorable together. Also, Maya not only looks like her mother, but it's fascinating how similar their voices are!
Nothing like a surprise Bonnie Tyler song-a-long in the CC. Seriously, these two act like me talking to my imaginary friend if I ever got invited to the closet. Just spittin obscure trivia, making non-sequitur references, saying how every movie I see changed my life. All while yoinking half the closet. Loved this vid.
What the Hawke?
(hawk call sound effect)
Really enjoyed this one. Love seeing film passion pass on a generation. 3 Women and Kicking and Screaming are two of my favorites so it is nice to hear them mentioned, and I got a whole bunch of other movies to look out for too.
That was great. Still recovering from that very spooked-out St Vincent closet pick, it felt delightful to see some laughter and genuine dialogue taking place. Not too serious nor too light. Just right. Thank you Maya and Ethan.
My all-time favorite picture with Ethan is EXPLORERS (1985).
Was NOT expecting an Explorers reference in the comments!
criterion needs to release explorers on 4k/blu-ray. if they have risky business why not explorers.
If I heard a woman in my city say, "When i fell in love with Nashville", i would immediately asked for their hand in marriage. And then i would obviously get called a creep....but it would be worth a shot!
Just watched it recently and I was floored
Thanks for the recommendations, it was a pleasure to watch.
I just love these two amazing people. They are just infectious and incredibly appealing! An awesome father & daughter team!
She has the exact same voice as Uma, amazing
These two must have so much fun together😊
love this. best one yet. father/daughter, and i like how Ethan's story about taking Maya's mam on an early date, and we all know its Uma Thurman he talking about.m and how much does Maya look like her mam.
Seeing their dynamic together is just beautiful. Love it🔥🔥🔥
The mechanic got promoted!
Heck yes! This is great!
This is so Before Sunset style. At the Shakespeare library I. Paris moment. I want to see them in a 4 Before Sunset part. Where Jesse is one of the twins in a place like this a library picking books. Beautiful. This video is a short film itself. The way Ethan refers to the first date with Uma...I can see the script of this 1 hour movie father and daughter picking up book/dvd talking about life, memories, childhood experiences, holidays trips. Love it!
Maya is pure Tarrantino for a young Uma in a Kill Bill ultra prequel. Now that would be a film!
Agnes Moorehead was great in The Magnificent Ambersons.
This could have been a million times longer and would be the best. These two are great together ❤❤❤❤
Such a great video. It’s nice to see people especially family compassionate about a hobby. A great selection of films being chosen here.
Father and daughter choosing films together, what a great thing!🤩
I'm making a note in my letterboxd lists!😉
Maya Hawke is fantastic, I like her!😊
"wim wenders" cracked me up. their relationship is so cute
When the shooting was over, they went home, cooked up a load of popcorn and watched Armageddon together.
this is the kind of relationship i wanna have when i have a daughter someday. just good friends talking about cool stuff we like
What a pleasure watching these two. Need a part 2 and maybe a bigger closet
