His acting in Along Came Polly was Oscar worthy. Such a brave role.
Let it rain!
I loved him in that
never heard of it. must've missed that one
Icemaaaan
It introduced the word “sharted”.
Great actor...one of the best of his generation.
The actual best imo
Sim Ber I agree. Dicaprio is garbage compared to him.
@@Jay23445 DiCaprio was great as a kid, but he never changed or evolved. He was lucky to work with great directors and writers, but it's been ages since he surprised with his actual acting. Hoffman's caliber is very rare. We're lucky though. There have been a good handful of masters at work over the last decades.
Roel Vinckens Yeah that’s true. DDL, Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman.
Dead, heroin addict. Will be forgotten.
When he acts he draws so much emotion you cant take your eyes off him.
One of the greatest American actors who ever lived.
Such an aware and smart person. An incredible talent. And a deep loss.
My generations Anthony Hopkins. This man brought more emotions to the screen than just about anyone ive ever seen. He was the kind of actor that could pull you so far into the scene that you forgot it was him for a moment, and he made you truly question who he was with his ability to create personality traits seemingly at will. Very few will ever attain that level of acting.
I miss this wonderful actor a lot. He always brings tears in my eyes!!
@Lisa Surlie and? what exactly is your point. yes, he died of a drug overdose but he was a good guy and a great actor.
This man can literally play any role and make you forget you’re watching a film that’s how powerful his acting was... R.I.P
Such an incredible artist, it's crushing to realize we won't get to see him work into his 50s, 60s and beyond.
He’s got a great laugh! Contagious
Amazing actor. A major loss.
@Lisa Surlie - look in the mirror. Literally. Ask yourself if you feel good about writing comments like that. I bet not.
@Lisa Surlie you're a bitch
@Lisa Surlie If someone being an addict makes them worthless in your mind then you are lower than anyone who's ever had an addiction
@Lisa Surlie that "junkie" had more talent and skill in the shit he dropped off in the toilet than you have. He has more people that loved/love him and miss him. Yet when you die alone, no one will even notice. So Lisa you may not have battled an addiction but you've also never accomplished anything if your talking shit about one of the greatest actors to ever do it. What a legacy you'll leavr behind.
@Lisa Surlie hey Lisa, I just came across your videos... seems like you're quite the crack addict yourself!
im never gonna get over we lost this talented man
He is a huge loss. A very watchable actor. Even if he was in a shit movie, he would always be the best thing about it.
He seems so alert & happy here too. RIP 🙏🏻
Gary Oldman is another where I'm like hey this movie might be terrible but at least Gary will keep me entertained
@@GrayWoIf Dracula, a prime example, in my opinion.
"How I approach acting - period." I adore this man and his craft.
Miss this guy.
PSH was the real deal. A rare bird. Even in a film like twister he’s memorable and stamps his authority on the scene. RIP
I have never been more gutted than when I heard about his loss, a titan of an actor
Don't worry. Life will go on.
So sad. Loved him and his work, he still inspires me to be a better filmmaker.
I miss this man. What a skilled actor he was.
I miss him! RIP
+Jan Rene My heart goes out to his family.I often wonder since I have seen the movies he did in the past just how much he will be missed as movies in all our lives show and go.I know he would have been even greater than he was if that is even possible.
@Lisa Surlie no one cares about your opinion lisa
@Lisa Surlie no chance
Such a great loss to the industry. Never made a bad movie. One of the greatest of all time...
The greatest actor of his generation.
I had a huge crush on Philip Seymour Hoffman in the 90s.
He made you engage in the part he played and you took the journey with him.
He was perfect in every role he played. Complete control of his voice, facial expressions and gestures. But who was he. Great actor. RIP
One of the greatest.
man i loved him in "before the devil knows you're dead" and "doubt". he is a real actor.
Please play the full interview....Philip SH was always so interesting. His death is such a tragic loss to the arts and it makes me very sad. He had so much more to offer. So Very Sad.
@Lisa Surlie you think you're funny?
he was one of the best actors
One of the greatest actors EVER. RIP.
Rewatching movies you see him all the time.
It's never felt like he's gone yet.
I believe Mr. Hoffman, as he states in this interview , has no need to fear that he is pretentious at all. He was great, perhaps to much so...maybe a victim of perfectionism, maybe, I can't say, but I believe he was a genius at his craft. "Thus in the execution of a work of art the painter has his colors, his canvass, and his brushes; the sculptor has his clay, his chisel, and his modeling tools; the poet has his words, rhythm, harmony and rhyme. Every art has its different instruments; but the instrument of the actor is himsel." Actors On Acting."
One of the few celebrity deaths that hit me hard. One of my favorite actors growing up from movies like Mission Impossible 3, The Big Lebowski and The Master. Never got to work or meet him and that always hurts. RIP to a legend.
One of the best to ever do it. A real standout in every film he has done.
Capote was to me a masterclass in character acting. When my then boyfriend told me, Philip had died it broke my heart. Such a loss to so many.
It would be awesome if you could upload the full interview. Thank you!
Charlie rose has the best interviews to watch.
:'( God i love him. Miss you. There will never be another
From the moment I saw him in his role in Scent of a Woman I just knew he was going to be incredible. Such a natural with total relaxation in his scenes.
So sad that people who have so much talent and access to so many wonderful things are sucked into drugs. What a shame.
***** we, are the ones who get sucked in, and whats worse, addicted in the stories ruminating about such well known people. communicated always first from a place of authority
Lisa Surlie ha ha. funny bitch eh, looking for a reaction 7 months later
+westathan Starting (2amcafelegendary) your comment deserves more likes
Well people are only humans and humans are emotional and thinking a lot, get depressed and etc etc. Shit happens to all. No one is perfect.
As an artist, who is left handed with a High IQ (double edged sword, all of them) and started out at 14, I can say that really creative people have a tendency to do drugs or drink to make the noise go away. It’s not a bad noise, not all “Artists” are haunted, but the best ones usually have voices that they need to keep quiet. I don’t think that being rich and famous makes them do drugs, just makes it easier. Him, Ledger, Robin Williams are great examples. It is really sad and it is a shame
Such a shame because I just adored him on screen and I got so excited when he came on screen
Great actor!!
When I saw that PSH had died, I was in Garowe, Puntland. So many things....the many many characters, the demons that must have hounded him...it was all so much. What an impactful person.
I really miss this guy. Really great loss.
You can hear it when he talks, he absolutely loved what he did, but he also sounds like he just needed a break. He talks about wanting to take a year sometimes, slow it down and do a play, but then he also implies that that would mean passing up good opportunities.
Once you slow down in that industry it can mean you're out of the loop of consistent, good roles, sometimes permanently. It's not an ironclad rule, but think about how many actors are popular for a few years, then totally disappear.
Sadly, it looks like the pressure to constantly perform or quit may have led him to seek such a dangerous release.
I love his acting in scent of a women
He was one of the greats, and my favorite actor of all time. Hope he rests in peace.
superb actor... one of the few... gone way way way too soon...
rip sir...
Agreed: one of the greatest! Incredible talent! R.I.P.
I see this in Neal Peart as well. Those people who overwork are compensating and it takes its toll.
One of the all time great character actors, easily top 5.
Passed on my birthday. Monumental loss. Cinema is terrible without him.
great respect for this man
One of greatest !!!
His part in Charlie Wilson's war is understated brilliance.
That role was truly brilliant.Seeing that much talent in one movie is unheard of.
"...to give my whole heart..." sums him up
Great, humble man
#legend rip
"My loyalty! For 20 years people were trying to kill me. People that know how!" RIP PSH.
Truly the saddest death in Hollywood, for sure.
@Shahaan Singh heath ledger...mostly...or james dean
So many sad deaths.
James Dean for sure but Marilyn Monroe too mysterious ones like Natalie Wood and Brittney Murphy now too may have been foul play also.
River Phoenix. That one still breaks my heart.
@@calisongbird he was a sacrifice to Hollywood. Make no mistake about it.
He was always the best thing about any movie he was in.
I hate the term character actor. It’s often used when they try to say he is not a leading man.
Hoffman was a leading man in every single sense of the word.
Character actor is a compliment. Many A-listers wish they had the talent of character actors. Some character actors have charm, charisma and looks and end up becoming leading men. Ryan Gosling, Cillian Murphy, and Oscar Isaac are all character actors who have leading man qualities. Jude Law and Ben Affleck are more digestible matinee types (for lack of a better term) but don’t have the same level of talent as a character actor. Actually, I take it back, Ben Affleck in Chasing Amy, Dazed and Confused, and Good Will Hunting was a great character actor. He lost something when he became a movie star. Matt Damon still has strong character actor vibes. So does Leo DiCaprio. Best character actor transitioning to A-list star is Daniel Day-Lewis. Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Vince Vaughn, Tom Hanks, and Chris Evans are all safe bet actors with star power but not much range. PSH was one of the greatest. His role in Charlie Wilson’s War is the best thing about that movie.
He is a great actor...I think Philip was the best villain in the Mission Impossible movie series! He brings a lot to every film where he is. A loss to Hollywood and us, rest in peace.
I loved him in "twister" and "almost famous".
He seems like such a solid, down-to-earth guy. What a loss.
Met him on the set of Hunger Games CF. I'll never forget the funny moment we shared in the makeup trailer. He was a gem.
Never gave a bad performance in a movie, not once.
I loved him in The Talented Mr. Ripley
What a heartbreak. I even like him acting as himself.
He’s Legendary in Charlie Wilson’s War
great actor
he was a good man. good spirit. rip
I miss both of these guys.
Love him in Boogie Nights and Charlie Wilson's War MF'ing Gust with a G
hehe
miss you and your talent....
RIP to an unbelievably talented man. The demons got him in the end.
Not my favorite actor but I believe the best actor ever.
This guy was the best
one of the best actors and people alongside with robin williams he made the movies he was in better even ones that wernt his best hes a legend and will be missed
I miss both these guys.
he was like a sophisticated Jack black. RIP Mr. Hoffman sir.
He was much, much more than that.
i never saw his movies, boogie knights i think.. im more of a spaceguy.. no disrespect. in the interview, seems like a calm jack black. but obviously he touched more hearts than i know if. rip good sir.
Kriswixx Just look him up on google and watch a few of his movies. You'll instantly become a fan. Guaranteed.
I meant it as a compliment. whoops. I will, thanks James.
Now that you say that, he should've been Carl Denham in King Kong but he was Capote that year
Such a sweet man
Gran actor sensible e inteligente
miss you :'(
RIP Phil 🥺
Him and harry dean are my fav actors great character actors
People do not get sucked into drugs. It's either you have a disease called addiction or you do not. What makes one person turn into something they hate and can't stop the what is causing that once started versus the person who smokes a little too much pot gets the head spins and never does it again.
With an addictive mind that feeling is what they are looking for. It is a soul sickness, and we all have our own crosses to bear.
God you bless Phillip, he was a super talent in a world of actors who can't do much more than look good for the camera. RIP.
He didn't overdose on pot. Pot had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Don Henderson that's not the point... he's using a casual pot smoker as an example of the difference between a normal personal and an addict. So anyone with the physical capability to stop drinking or smoking whenever they want (i.e. a normal pot smoker, social drinker) is the not the same as an addict who has a physical disease and thus, physiological obsession.
look, according to a vision/dream TheRaymond86 had: Philip S. Hoffman is suffering a bad fate in hell. Trust in the Lord Jesus ..... nothing is impossible if God decides to take charge - REPENT
REPENT: we don't need no examples to be made of us!!!
Ideology speaking
Great actor. Gone way too soon.
Also I have that same shirt he’s wearing! Nice style Philly, nice style
Incredible actor
I miss him. A lot.
His portrayal of Truman Capote was the greatest acting job of all time!!!!! Absolutely breathtaking. I’m so sad that your demons got the best of you.
Lisa Surlie fuck you 🤷♂️
Such a Great Loss. Such a GENEROUS Actor x
I miss him
RIP to one of the greatest
I've been listening to the sound track on CZcams of his Jack Goes Boating movie. Incredible music. The movie was my intro to Fleet Foxes and Grizzily Bear. Forever grateful to PSH!
A class actor.
He was my favorite actor and now the world sucks.
He and Giamatti are two of my favorites 👍
is there a full video somewhere?
Won't let me post the link but go to charlie rose's website then search Philip Seymour Hoffman and you'll find it!
Miss that guy
