    I keep them both. With enough caves, I see them out about the same amount. Though my leopard frogs seem quicker to hide if I move. On their behalf I've owned them for a shorter time then the L046. I cant choose between them. I need more of both! only 5 L046 & 4 L134's.

    @MrFkoller Před 7 lety +1

    I have to say I'd choose the zebras....... although I love the green phantoms. What are your thoughts on dithers? I noticed most of your 'pleco focused' tanks don't have dithers, is there a reasoning behind it or just coincidence? Love your channel by the way.

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  Před 7 lety

      +Franz von Köller Hi Franz, I don't use dithers because I don't feel it's worth the risk of a dither fish getting sick and spreading it to my plecos. I know it's pretty low odds but just not worth it to me.

      @MrFkoller Před 7 lety

  • @thominaduncanson8003

    Absolutely the Zebra Plecos!!! L046, Hypancistrus zebra-had two back in 1996 for one year, then we got orders, and I rehomed them with a young man who was thrilled to get two healthy Zebra Plecos for free. He left with written instructions as to quarantine/water temp/ph/high volume water flow/lighting/feeding/caves/appropriate tank-mates/frequent water changes-25% once or twice per week according to tests. I was *determined* that my fish would have every chance at a long life (15 years) with him, and LACK of vital information would NOT be to blame. 😏🇺🇸

    Hi Bob I do find the zebra pleco very attractive. What is the sex ratio male to female with plecos? What is the minimal tank size? Did you say they are in a 20 long? Hmmm how many inches is a long? My tall is 24" x 12" x 16".

  • @jasper777777
    @jasper777777 Před 7 lety

    I find the Zebra frog pleco to be the most beautiful of the plecos, but I've heard the leopard frog plecos are slightly more outgoing and don't hide as much. I'm not sure if that is true but its enough to make me consider getting a leopard from pleco instead- also where I live the Zebras are $400 and Leopard from plecos are $150-$200.

      In my area Zebras are around $150 and Leopards are around $100. But just a year ago you could get Leopards for under $50. Their price is really skyrocketing due to their natural habitat getting wiped out.

    Do either of them swim very much or spend much time out in the open? What are their care requirements? (same/similiar?) I know (?) they are lousy algae eaters and prefer a wood/omnivore diet. Fragile or bulletproof or inbetween?
    My bristlenose will suck on my hand and allow me to lift them out of the water - out in the open most of the day - but then my tank is just a tangled mess of wood. I remember the first time I saw a zebra - 1992 in Seattle - $29.99.

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  Před 7 lety +1

      They are pretty similar, i keep the zebras a little warmer because they are younger. I wouldnt say they are bulletproof like a bristlenose, but they are pretty hardy. A lot of people think because they are expensive they are harder to keep which is just not true.

  • @Jeff-ik9zj
    @Jeff-ik9zj Před 7 lety +1

    I prefer the zebras
    And if you want to see your plecs more often you need to add tons of hiding spaces. Because they have more hiding spaces they will go out more often because if they get scared and need to dart away there is allways a hiding space close by
    My 30 long is bassicaly one big hiding space of wood rocks and plants and my plecs are allways out grazing on the wood

    • @Jeff-ik9zj
      @Jeff-ik9zj Před 7 lety +1

      And adding a shaol of chilli rasboras or cardinal tetras also works very good to bring them out

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  Před 7 lety

      I am not too concerned about seeing them. The zebra pleco tank doesnt even have a light. I just put one on it for filming. The breeder i got them from doesnt light his pleco tanks either. I have thought about throwing in some dithers, but i figured since i dont really care about seeing them, its not worth the risk of bringing in possible contaminants.
