  • Kwik Lift Kwik-Lift car lift how to build a car ramp assembly owner review Not a 4 post and not a 2 post car lift. Kwik Lift Car lift made in USA Very heavy duty, and VERY HEAVY. $800 for the lift $200 for the g floor mat and $200 for the jack $1200 total, plus air jack for the middle bridge around $200 and couple of jack stands for $80 total. Thank you enjoy!!! Overall around $1500 total for a used but loaded Kwik Lift. I feel EXTREMELY SAFE under it, I don't think there is a lift out there where I would feel safer. Later additions are 640912 All-In-One 3-Ton Bottle Jack with Jack Stand for cross members. But planning to buy a 2-3 air bag jack for tire and brake work to use on the side of the ramp (need a better air compressor first).

During my ten plus years of owning a Kwik Lift car ramp, I can assure it is one of my most prized tools. When not in use, I merely park my car on it. Garage space is limited.
    I highly recommend this.

Dude, I have to agree, I can't see how i lived without it all my life, I ended up buying Powerbuilt 640912 for the cross member, and planning to buy a good aircompressor 21gal+ at harbor freight, and a 2-3 airbag jack to quikly raise the side of the car if need brake or wheel job done. Did you get any useful stuff for it?

When my father built an attached garage to the house, he dug a pit down the middle. He could just drive the car into the garage & then go down a ladder to get underneath the car. He also had a door to the basement to get into the pit. Don't tell anyone, because it is not within city code or covered by insurance.

with those cross pieces you can get a magnetic strip or 2, attach it to the bottoms and if you are under the car you can stick your tools above you so you can see them and grab what you need, as you need them. If you are changing oil stick the drain plug to it very easy to find when you need to. You could also stick parts trays to them and have a place for nuts and bolts. oil wipes can go on top or other rags.

This is an informative, excellent video Eugene, thanks for making it. It is one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to purchase an excellent condition Kwik-Lift today for $700 including a full set of casters, center bridge, a 2 1/4 ton floor jack and some large, heavy metal drive-up wedges that are the full width of the ramps. After using ramps and jack stands for over 35 years, I now have just what I need to perform basic to moderate difficulty under-vehicle service a lot easier than before.

Actually, you might be surprised with how much those rods can support in that sort of use even if they were not just for keeping things from moving around. Back in my day, it was common to weld up your first set of jack stands for a car out of two pieces of pipe in which one would slide snugly inside the other and to drill holes though it so that a 3/8" pin could be used for adjustments. A 3/8" piece of round bar stock is going to have an ultimate strength of around 5875 lbs, but that can be doubled since the weight is being distributed on both sides of the piece of pipe. Safe working load would be less though, depending upon what safety factor you felt comfortable with. Of course, it's going to also depend upon the side pieces on the front pieces of your lift. If they are thin, it would allow them to cut into the cross rod more than if they were thick.

If you can’t afford $800 for these ramps, you could build some from 2x12’s or 2x14’s or 2x16’s with supports every 3-4 feet depending on how heavy of a vehicle you will drive onto it. Wood ramps will be heavier but probably could be built for under $200. Just be careful.

yes I have to agree with that, done brakes, and this lift is definitely not for brake jobs, I did overhall the suspension on bmw using this lift, it was very useful put the cross bar in between and a jack stand with jack in the middle, but for brake jobs forget it, this is not made for this.

@@surfbeetle1967 yes I had this lift and it was fine for oil changes but tire rotations and brake work. You need the traction strips in order to drive up the ramps. Kwik Jack seems to be the better solution now.

      @surfbeetle67 Před rokem

@@waynebeck7801 for tire rotations, I just use my floor jacks, lift up one side, then lift up the other. For Brake work, I have the cross pieces and I have bottle jacks to lift the car up, works fine and I'm not laying on the ground. My cars are very low to the ground and this makes it easier to work on. For my trucks, I just use jack stands in the driveway for brake work.

yes, and no: got the 2 in one jack/stand from pep boys, a perfect fit for cross
member, and it lifts up the whole front or just one side if needed in no
time. But you are correct, I am looking into a double or triple AIR
jack to be showed onto the ramp and to raise the front or the rear or
the side in no time, but for that I need a much bigger compressor which I
will get sooner or later. And that expedite any suspension work 100x
times. So the perfect combination is 1) kwik lift 2) 179$ jack
(daytona) in the back to raise the rear if needed (could be fine without
it) but I needed the car to be level it to fill up the transmission on
my mercedes there is no dip stick. 3) a double or triple bag air jack
      for $180-250$ and 4) a $160+ at least 21gal compressor from harbor
freight. So all and all I would be happy if I would have all 4, but for
now just 1 and 2. and managing with what I got
