- 20 Years later and I'm finally able to try this food again... In this video I relive my childhood by trying one of my dad's favorite snacks: LIMBURGER CHEESE! Let's review this strange food and see if it brings back some memories!
HEY LOOK SHORTS ► cloakbrand.com/
The Limburger ► www.amazon.com/dp/B005BI030S/...
Early on in my childhood my dad introduced me to Limburger Cheese Spread on Triscuits. I loved it. Despite the fact that this is a SUPER STINKY CHEESE I just couldn't get enough of it! However, when I was about 10 years old Kraft stopped making this particular delicacy much to my dad's disappointment. Fast forward to 2019 and I may have found a replacement for that long lost favorite food. Let's see my reaction to my childhood favorite snack! How will I react? Will I still like it? Or will it be gross?

14 µSv is not a big dose of radiation. The average person gets about 10 µSv each day.
its not the radiation dose that kills you, its how long you're exposed that kills you. so if that's 14 µSv per HOUR- that's 336 µSv/day. say he filmed like 15 minutes with it, 1220 CPM * 15 min = 18,300 counts.

ah yes the crack
I've done this by drinking diet coke. Brings me right back to my grandma's house and all the memories that brings. I don't really like Diet Coke anymore, but my Grandma loved Diet Coke, and it was the soda she always had. I had Diet Coke a month ago, after not drinking it for years, and I just suddenly had a rush of nostalgia, almost like I was directly back in the kitchen of her house, drinking a can of Diet Coke. It was the weirdest sensation. I didn't know what Mark was getting at the first time I saw this video, but I still was happy for him to have those memories... but now, I totally get what he's saying.
Amy really was there for him. Usually, when he's doing random things that don't explicitly involve her, like the sour patch series, he'll offer her some of what he's trying, and she'll almost always decline. But here, it's nice that she saw how sensitive of a moment it was for him and tried a food that was so important to him, especially given how many times he stressed in this video how irregular the taste and smell is, and how most people wouldn't like it.
Yeah. It's clear he really wanted to share the memory of it with someone.

Fun fact the glaze of fiesta ware contains the uranium really well so generally speaking fiesta ware is only really dangerous when it's cracked or broken because then the uranium can leak
But Geiger counters read the leakage so it going off should mean that the glazing is damaged right?
@@vertonimal IIRC the main form of radiation emitted by the Uranium Oxide in the glaze is alpha radiation, which is fully stopped by a single sheet of paper, let alone human skin, so it poses little/no risk to us. This of course changes once the glazed is damaged (or if the food is highly acidic, like pasta sauce) as then the uranium oxide can leech into your food (alongside lead), and once you eat it you no longer have the safety barrier of your skin between you and the alpha particles, which is what causes issues.
@@silverfur11 so basically, if the cup is damaged, would they then have to actually report it to the government and evacuate? This is really interesting
That is still dangerous
That only accounts for the danger of the Uranium seeping out into the food/drink. The radiation itself is not contained by the glaze and can pose a real hazard.
For some reason I laughed so hard when he found out the cup was radioactive and the Geiger counter kept on going up I couldn’t breath and started crying from laughter looking at his face.
Or maybe you couldnt breath bc the radiation
Mark: **not understanding why eating a food that gives him positive memories of his dad would make him cry**
Exactly! The tearing up, the house, the garage, he didn't understand why the cheese made him think of that but they all have one thing in common. Psychologically, doing something again after 20 years when he used to do it with his dad, every single time, of course it's going to bring back the well of memories. Things you buried or thought you moved on from...it's sad but...also really happy. That's the same way I get when I examine rings in a jewelry store, I remember sitting in my grandmas room as she showed me every single piece of jewelry.

Love how calm Amy is about the deadly mug. Fiestaware can cause cancer. It's unsafe when it's chipped at all.
Since the mug wasn't chipped, why was the Geiger counter picking up the radiation? It should only do that if the radiation is leaking from the mug yeah?
@slayerkifonna6831 I feel like someone explained that in another reply section. But if you're still unsure, just look it up.
@@slayerkifonna6831 hi, here's the explanation I got from another comment "IIRC the main form of radiation emitted by the Uranium Oxide in the glaze is alpha radiation, which is fully stopped by a single sheet of paper, let alone human skin, so it poses little/no risk to us. This of course changes once the glazed is damaged (or if the food is highly acidic, like pasta sauce) as then the uranium oxide can leech into your food (alongside lead), and once you eat it you no longer have the safety barrier of your skin between you and the alpha particles, which is what causes issues"
@@boopussnoopusI don't like to necropost in the comments but I'll reply to this anyways
While it's true that uranium primarily emits alpha radiation, I believe a lot actually ends up contained by the glaze. So the vast majority of detectable radiation coming from glazed pottery would be beta (especially) and some gamma. These types of non-specialised geiger counters are very beta sensitive and tend to way overestimate the radiation dose too;
They estimate what the dose is purely based on the amount of particles that hit the tube, but don't take into account the energy of that radiation, which is what you need to determine the dose.
And yes, consuming small parts of the glaze or uranium that had leached out would not be healthy, but not the end of the world either. Uranium (as a heavy metal) is quite toxic, and that would be much more of a concern than the relatively low levels of radioactivity
Having lost my mother last year, I now come back to this with new eyes. And boy does this hit harder now. If your reading this please cherish every moment with your loved ones, even when it’s the hardest. Love you all ❤️

2,200CPM isn't dangerous in of itself, it's only if he drunk from it, he was mildly irradiate not contaminated, the reason it is radioactive is because the glaze contains uranium, this couldn't transfer into the food/drink unless they had high acid content which would allow some of the radioactive elements into the the food/drink, the food/drink would be irradiated but that in of itself wouldn't matter as if you irradiate say some water it doesn't make the water dirty, if anything it would kill the bacteria in the water making it safer, if it was contaminated like a piece chipped off into it and then someone drunk it then it would be an issue, but as amy said it is fine.

Orange glazes used to contain uranium because of the orange color it would produce when fired. This was pre 1930s before radiation was common knowledge. Its not really that big of a deal though, since its just a small thing. The card states those numbers because of it usually being used to scout locations with radiation not objects. If a location has that much its pretty much lethal, but a simple cup wont do much if its stored properly
@@reedmichello7819 would you still take the chance to drink from it though?
Im a ceramic artist and its pretty well known that these things exist. I really wish i owned some honestly, they're pretty cool.
Fiesta Ware is a popular ceramic brand. The radioactive red Fiesta Ware is famous and very expensive, which is most likely why Amy’s family has held onto it.
It’s not dangerous unless you eat from it. People who know Fiesta Ware know not to eat from it.
Title idea: Mark makes us cry with nostalgia from a cheese spread ft. Amy's Chernobyl-in-a-cup collection
it depends on what radiation its detecting there are 3, alpha, beta, and gamma. more than likely its picking up more beta / gamma and it can't tell the difference between the two lesser radiation types and the deadly alpha.
@@rionthemagnificent2971 you are sorta right, Alpha particles are much harder to detect, tho there are a lot more of them. the reason they are so hard to detect is because they are the weakest there are, Alpha particles can barely penetrate a sheet of paper, thus they are harmless. Gamma on the other hand, is definetly a concern, even high amounts of Beta particles is already a bit of an issue. tho most meters just detect them all the same, so they judge all particles as the same value, while most of them are harmless Alpha particles. so meters can have a super high rating thanks to Alpha particles, yet be completely harmless, they arent even able to penetrate the skin.
Edit: some meters are able to detect Alpha particles, which tend to have huge amounts, i think this meter was mostly detecting Alpha particles. the high numbers are still scary, but it should be fully save
@@RoseWhitmore Yeah, I remember reading alpha particles being fairly harmless for that sort of reason, and it's likely that's what Mark was mostly picking up. As Amy suggested, Uranium's particular use in glass and pottery is actually a thing, especially those made before the discovery of radiation. Unless you're talking about its use in things like nuclear reactions, over 99 percent of such Uranium is Uranium 238; A comparatively stable isotope that can't undergo fission and actually does undergo alpha decay to radiate such particles. As such, an overwhelming majority of the radiation coming from that mug may very well have been from alpha particles, and Uranium's use in these more mundane applications does tend to be (relatively) safe. Of course, with Mark's luck and "medical history", who knows....

@@crazy_ventures697 I like it, I actually learnt something lol
watching this always reminds me of the fact that my dad, who had me when he was 50, could definitely die when i’m 18. and of course he has a favorite strong cheese that’s getting harder and harder to find. i’ve also made the mistake of watching this on father’s day.
Yup that’ll getcha

DUDE FIG NEWTONS ARE SO GOOD.
My dad passed away when I was 16 and he LOVED chicken biscuit crackers with the canned cheese. We used to eat them with him all the time so everytime I eat them I can't help but think of my dad.
He also really loved happy tracks/moose tracks/turtletracks all the same thing but he LOVED that ice cream and he complained so much when blue bell did the recall thing 😂 I miss my grumpy old man

It’s actually really sweet how meaningful this one experience is to Mark. My dad and I love each other but our relationship is super different to Mark’s and there’s this really warm feeling I get seeing how much Mark loves his dad
This has to be the most heartwarming thing I've ever seen. The looks on his face as he remembers things, it made my heart happy.
