  • It's a tough thing to do. Make a folding cockpit that can you can set up inside a minute, which is sturdy enough to do the trick and cheap enough to stay out of reach of fixed rigs. Still, I can see why this design has stuck around for so long, they kinda nailed it.

    I got one of these just before the lockdown. When I first set it up I couldn't help thinking it was a seriously half baked solution, however I shouldn't have bean so dismissive of it as it went on to serve me extremely well for about 3 years. With a T300 wheel and T3PA pedals mounted to it I must say it was probably the most fun I ever had sim racing.

    I maxed out mine with a t300 + T-LCM with the stiffest springs. Works perfectly! From folded to playing in under 30s everytime😅

    Still to this day I use my Playseat challenge, now heavily modified. I started exactly as you showed, out of the box+ a Logi G29.
    Then I wanted a more premium setup, that I still need to fold away in my tiny flat. I have a CSL DD 8Nm + CSL pedals with Loadcell brake on it. The company indigo lime sells a reinforcement kit for the PS challenge, that makes it strong enough for a 8Nm DD wheelbase + Loadcell brake.
    I even modded it with Bass shakers, 2x 50W, one in the backrest and 1 under the butt, and 2x25W at the Throttle and Brake pedal. It’s so amazing! It’s still the playseat with equipment of 1.500€ bolted to it! I love it so much and I can’t emphasize enough how often I use it and fold it up again!
    My next upgrade is a full aluminum profile rig but that’s many years away, the PS challenge is more than capable for me!

      Do you think you’d be able to use the 5nm CSL DD without reinforcement?

    • @edcgadgets-de
      @edcgadgets-de Před měsícem

      @@argarcini yes. 5Nm would be fine but really the limit. With the reinforcement 8 is the limit I feel.

      I've been thinking of this, to replace my custom built office chair setup, with alu parts and extrusions.
      My main concern with this seat, is the basshakers not transmitting good enough feedback through the seat cloth.
      How have you mounted yours and how does it feel like?

    I have a different version of the playseat that has 6 seating positions. Works great for not having space for a dedicated rig. My only complaint is the adjustment locks, add some locktite or else they loosen with repeated latching

    Great vid. I started with a G29 on mine, before upgrading to a Logitech DD pro. Whilst that is pushing what the challenge is capable of, it still works well. Care needs to be taken with the additional weight when getting in and out, but it's held up great for over a year. There are several companies offering upgrades to improve stability, which are well worth considering if you try a stronger wheel on it.

    @topchris175 Před měsícem +1

    I had my Heusinkveld Sprints and Fanatec CSL DD 8nm attached to this for 9 months or so. Fully agree, folding it with these was a nightmare, but the challenge held up well. I’m going to hold on to it and let my kids use it in the next few years.

    • @topchris175
      @topchris175 Před měsícem +1

      I did add about 8 zip ties to secure the pedal plate to the rail and more zip ties beef up the attachments for the lower pedal rail. Mainly for peace of mind, no one wants their pedals falling off 57 mins into an hour long race.

    I have used one of these since gt5 on the ps3, absolutely clutch when you have limited space.
    Can literally be put in a closet when you’re not using it. It’s not meant to be the end all be all of rigs but what it is meant to be, its mega at. I’ve even bought a few sets for friends over the years and they loved them.

    Ive had my playseat challenge for about 4-5 years... Currently with a csl dd, shifter, handbrake, and buttkicker ... I climb in and out of my seat. Its still foldable too but nowadays i keep it stationary. But was very convenient when i had to move last year. There is a flex but its expected.
    Btw- youll quickly learn to secure the wheel base after getting smacked in the face lol.

    I've got a dd1 attached to mine. I don't have much space available, so this is the best option. It holds the dd1 really well considering what it was designed for. Just strengthened it up with some cable ties and hardly any noticeable flex

    Been racing about a year now, as I don’t have room for a fixed rig. Started with a T300RSGT but just upgraded that to a Logitech G Pro DD wheel and pedals. You hit the nail on the head saying it moves but not enough to be offputting, and I get consistent times
    Just take more care when folding up, as the new wheel and pedals weigh about 3 times the Thrustmaster ones 😅

      I’m using similar now but how you fix your pedals onto the frame ? I used some aluminium square pipes to stack it high enough. But thinking of make it better but have no idea to start with

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  Před měsícem +1

      That's a stacked seat! Amazing list, and thanks for chipping in with your experiences. Anything unusual you've had to do to accommodate all that?

    • @Kefuddle
      @Kefuddle Před měsícem +1

      @@dannyleeracing Yeah, it is taking it a bit to the limit, has to be said. The seat needs to be braced at certain points, hence the Indigolime kit, which is relatively pricey tbh,, but it works really well. But it also includes the parts to fit the Sprint pedals too. To fold it, there are few more steps like loosening a couple of parts, putting the shifter in 6th, retracting the Sprints, but it does not take long. I set it up next to my desk and have an Ergotron monitor arm for my 43" so that it just swings over and viola! I need the space in my cave so cannot have a dedicated rig and I simply cannot live without my Sprints and DD wheel, so this is working perfectly for me.

    The best chair like this right now is the the next level racing pro. Its so good that it can hold my dd+ and sure move a bit but succesfully felt so good snd so comfortable due to the padding on the seat. Not to mention each part doesnt need to be screwed or unscrewed its so simple ro move and adjust. While being uncredibly strong its the only chesper one like this I would suggest. Some peolle eant the bigger bois for ffb and want to pay extta for the wheel and base while saving money on the rig and if thats you do what im saying. The ffb from the dd+ is so good thst the slight loss from movement is still so much better then even a dd pro on a stiff great rig.

    the clutch pedal would be much more comftable as the brake. so your legs arent cramped up. maybe i need to modify mine.

    Boy do I feel dumb. Got this as a hand me down and never realized that the wheel support swings. I do have a question for everyone: I am a shorter person and if I completely lie back, the top of the seat pushes my head forward. Anyone has a fix?
