    As a "entry level" rig, the playseat challenge is absolutely awesome. I've had mine for a year (that I bought second hand together with my thrustmaster t300 wheel) and I've spent countless hours sitting comfortably in the seat.

      @@Kireth yeah, anywhere I can get a zip tie through the pedal mount and round the Playseat pedal mount, think I’ve used six or seven. As a backup I also have the long 10 inch bolt that came with the Fanatec pedals threaded through the front of the pedal mount and it braces up against the metal lip on the Playseat pedal base. So unless you are strong enough to bend metal, it ain’t moving.

    Agreed that the pedals mount is horrible with the Challenge..... I started with the next level gt lite frame and it had a plate for mounting the pedals and could be flat on floor or inclined position. Definitely made a world of difference. I too had the flex issues you did not horrible but noticeable the more serious you get about sim racing.
    I recently got an 8020 rig too, just got it together yesterday. Basically a GT Omega Art frame. Can't wait to get it dialed in to feel the difference between rigs.....

    I have the same Playseat Challenge + a T150..
    the ergonomic design of the seat is comfortable for long periods of racing. sometimes I use it if I'm not racing because it's just that good.
    I definitely recommend getting a block of wood to put on the wheel plate due to the T150 having the clamp. the clamp prevents the wheel from fully sitting flush thanks to the bolt mechanism under the wheel plate. it leaves a small part of the wheel off (up to 1/2 inch) causing the wheel base to shift when used.
    one thing I do wish it were able to do: angle the pedals up a small degree.
    I agree the pedal bar should have been pre drilled for all pedal sets, but the velcro strap is doing a good job for my T150 pedals
    all in all, it is a good base for beginners up to hard-core sim racers!

    A couple of months ago, I was torn between the PlaySeat Challenge and the Next Level Racing GT-Lite. I don’t have much room for a full-on rig, and I needed something compact and easy to fold away. The price was virtually the same for both so that was a wash.
    After some more research, I decided to go with the GT-Lite. What made me go for the NLR rig was specifically the pedal rack. As you mentioned, the pedal mounting can be quite cumbersome with the Playseat. On the GT-Lite, both the wheel and pedals can be bolted on. It is pre-drilled for most wheel brands, so no drilling required. I currently have a Logitech G29, and everything bolted right on.
    My only complaint about the GT-Lite is the lack of lumbar support. I solved that issue with a small pillow on the lower back area. Problem solved!😉 There is also a bit of flexing on the wheel mount tubing, similar to the Playseat, but that’s about it. Thanks for the review. 👍

    I have an ADX Ultimate Gaming rig, it was about £150 too. I had to redrill the pedal plate to shift it over to reach the brake pedal as the steering wheel plate is supported by a center metal rectangular bar, also after a couple of hours the pain in my coccyx is immense. I am awaiting the delivery of a 'ergonomic' seat cover that will hopefully improve it. Other than that it is a good starter rig, it looks the bomb which is why I bought it and ofcourse the price.

    I can't comment on Fanatec, but with Logitech and later Thrustmaster pedals I never had any complaints, velcro strap works just fine. My issues were wheel deck wobbliness and lack of shifter mount, but after couple of trips to the local hardware store, I solved them fairly easily, now I've got a shifter mount and a pretty solid wheel deck, so well happy

    I just recently ordered me one of these to upgrade from the set up I have now. I have a Logitech G920 and currently have it all set to a Vevor wheel stand and use my GTRacing chair with wheel cups so it doesn’t move and don’t get me wrong it works for 10-15 lap stints on F1 or Forza but the angle you sit in the chair compared to the pedal deck just hurts your ankles after a while. I’m looking forward to this new set up and see how it changes my driving experience

  • @michaelwhite6461
    @michaelwhite6461 Před 5 měsíci +2

    looks like they've solved the pedal issues on the playseat challenge x logitech version - both pre-drilled plates and they've profiled the tubing so that the tightening screws sit in dips, rather than just relying on friction alone. They've made it a little wider around the knee area and the straps have gone in favour of locking clamps (which may make it a little fiddlier to set up and put away, but only by a few seconds - it does mean you only need one velcro strap for the pedal frame though...so it probably works out about the same amount of time for stowing it away). I'm seriously considering buying the new one, even though there's nothing essentially wrong with the one I have. They've basically ironed out the small flaws that were there......with the exception of one little thing......the angle of the head rest area. If I could adjust that slightly, it would be damn near perfect....it's especially relevant when doing a VR session. I use a cushion placed at shoulder blade height to create a little space at the moment, but some way to adjust the angle would make the playseat challenge a complete and utter no-brainer

    • @michaelwhite6461
      @michaelwhite6461 Před 5 měsíci +3

      Just as an update I bought the challenge x version and it is actually possible to mount the headrest area backwards to angle it away from your head a little (much better for VR :-)). Everything else seems like a substantial upgrade, feeling like a jump in quality over the original. However, while assembling the chair, one of the hooks that fasten the pedal tray to the chair snapped (it takes a large amount of force to click them onto the frame), so I'm waiting on a reply from playseat about replacing it. I don't dare remove the one I actually got onto the frame, for fear of breaking that as well.

    Cool review Kireth. For those that are handy with a hammer and saw, try building your own. I picked up a very comfortable, fully adjustable bucket seat out of a Kia from my local wreckers for AU$50. Using some 19mm particle board and pine for the framework (all scraps scrounged in my shed) i managed to build a robust cockpit that can be wheeled out whenever I feel like playing. Kids can sit in it with a pillow under their bum, right up to 200cm giants can slip right in. My pedals can lock into 3 different positions in seconds making it super easy to swap out drivers. The TV sits on top of my "dashboard" and the playstation is built into the dash under the TV. A coat of matt black and it looks the goods too. Thousands of very comfortable hours of racing for less than $100. It doesn't have to cost thousands, it just has to be functional

    Great review mate. Quick question. I see you have the back/lumbar strap over the arm rest velcro strap instead of under it. Any reason for that? And does put any extra stress on the fabric wear it meets the metal bracket?
    I had to replace my first playseat after 3 weeks as the fabric was pulling away from the cutouts on the head rest. I’m not a large guy, so this shouldn’t have happened. They way you have yours set up looks as if the lumbar strap is helping with load bearing (that’s the best way I can put it) I’m just worried that having it set up in that way might damage the lumbar support or the fabric. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers for the helpful video :)

    You literally read my mind as I was just about to ask for a video like this 😂
    What I am not completely happy about is the position of the headrest. If I adjust the seating position to sit a bit more upright, the headrest pushes my head forward into a very unnatural and uncomfortable position. But on the other hand if it's in a more laying position, I have to reach out quite far to the wheel, almost having my arms straight, which is very uncomfortable when doing long races.
    Did you ever notice anything like that? Could you give some advice about how to adjust the seating position properly to fit your needs? Possibly in another video?
    And also I was thinking about upgrading to loadcell pedals but my biggest concern was exactly what you mentioned that the two plastic screws would not withstand the force applied when braking. How much kg were you actually applying?

    I have an copy of this made by XR (not sure of the name as I bought it used) it's pretty much the same but the pedal deck uses square tubing. My G29 pedals fit perfectly between the plastic that connects the tubing and the bar on the end so I don't need to use the velcro. One issue I have is that the velcro that adjusts the chair dosent stay done up but I'm using cable ties untill I find a better solution

I agree that the seat is really comfortabel!. Not sure I understand the whole problem with the brakepedals. Never had problem with the brakes goes away with the plastic screws :D If the brakepedals are not wide enough, you could always use some kind of MDF tree plank to put under hte breakpedals. This seat works perfect with the logitech force gt pedals anyway.

    If you have larger thighs, it can be a challenge to get comfortable, now I am, it’s great, I even do movie watching, controller gaming in it these days, but at first it was quite painful. Some additional padding might be necessary for some.

After some reviews I found that Logitech 923 or Pro are good options (like top options of middle class equip), but there is no wheel for F1 from Logitech 😕 Should I better consider Fanatec DD1 or go for Trustmaster? I have one too and I like it a lot. My main thing was the foldig which I thought I should use a lot but it turned out it was so compfy I use it all the time now.
    I do some racing but my main gaming is in FP shooters so I made a lapboard (baically just an MDF board fully covered with a large mouse mat) and now I use it for both the racing I do but mainly for FPS gaming AND when I occationally work from home. The main drawback when using it for other things than racing is imo that the pedals are somewhat in the way when I want to sit 'normally'. I have never had any issue with the pedal board but I'm on entry level pedals (G29).
    I also get in and out as you do here and a word of warning about 'opening' it is that it is easy to cut off any wires with such a 'scissors action'.
    Another drawback is that it is a bit 'narrow'. One cannot really do a 'manspread' for some circulation in the 'below regions'.

    Great seat but the pedal mount is utter shite! I've had mine a few years now and have made a few mods and tweaks over that time. Biggest being the pedal mount.
    I ended up making an entire 'floor' (a pedal mount that goes right under the entire seat) that hooks onto the front legs and a block under back legs to prop it up for a more upright seating position. I got an extension cable for the pedals so it now has a break in the connection near the board for easy detatchment when folding away. All this faffery was triggered by installing the TrueBrake mod on my G29 causing the seat to wheelie every time I stamped on the brake (because of how much harder you need to press). But all the faff was worth it in the end as it is now way more stable (side to side stability also) while in use and now that the pedals can be completely separated/untethered from the seat itself, it is much easier to fold and stow, either together or apart. The floor board is similar length to the folded seat itself so it doesn't get much bulkier when stacked together with the folded seat. But I got really short legs so...
