3:15 they used this song in all the ads for the Georgia aquarium performance
They also played it during that performance too.
Let us take a moment and appreciate the work of Nick John, the band's late manager to whom the album, and this song especially, is dedicated.
In interviews the band says they wouldn't be where they are without him and he worked hard behind the scenes because he believed in them.
RIP, Nick, thank you!
Troys voice is like velvet at this one. Best mixed song yet.
When that high octave back up vocal comes in with Troy singing the chorus!!
Dirty B. Hinds putting that stank on the solo, as usual. 🤘🤯
Sadly no lyrics about trains in this one xD
Those bends are a sooo painfully good. Solo is emotional as fuck
All of their new material is transcendent. You really don't hear music like this much anymore. An album of this caliber is really rare.
How can I give more likes man? So true.
You don’t hear cus you don’t look for it tbh
@@eastofwarden tbh I came here to share in how great this new album is. But if you just want to shit all over that with your elitist attitude, go right ahead.
I completely agree man. This album is in a different dimension
@@eastofwarden nah bud we don't hear it cause it doesn't exist. Mastodon is the apex of music
Liked that synth sound, reminded me of Pink Floyd's - Welcome to the machine.
Me too.
Ghost uses it really well too!
Reminded me of the tone/octave from Floyd's "Dogs" too!
Agree man straight thought on ghost, actually sounds like the intro Ashes
bro it really caught me off guard
Brann's backup vocals in the chorus are masterful. Beautifully haunting. The level of talent, musicianship, and songwriting ability between these four dudes is unfathomable.
RIP Nick
Mastodon with another amazing album added to their catalog. Once in a lifetime band.
They’re batting 1000 as a career band
[Verse]
You Reached Two Hands Outward
Two Birds Spreading Our Wings
Today's Arms Turn Numb
When I Turn It Inward
We Live And Breathe
All Your Thousand Words
Now You Sleep
We'll Finish Your Work
[Chorus]
To My Detriment
To My Detriment
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
[Verse]
You Painted Us With Effort
Always Praising Us High
The Day Has Come To Face The Storm
As Lightning Strikes Me In Two
We Live The Dream Onward As It Were
Endless Days We'll Carry On As One
There's No Doubt Of What We're Herе To Do
You Laid It Out
A Promise Of Yourself
[Chorus]
To My Detrimеnt
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
(I Forge Ahead Unscarred)
To My Detriment
sounds to me like Nick John is getting massive respect from the band in this song
That chorus, holyshit
@@henriqlima23 It hits hard doesn't it? 🖤
Hard AF
Thanks for the lyrics ❤
Если говорить об альбоме в целом: господа, вы создали шедевр.
I'm on my lunch break on my own in the staff room. I hope nobody comes in because my eyes are welling up. Wow this band gets better all the time. Stunning work
this song going into teardrinker is so perfect
That’s something I don’t think everyone is talking about enough. This album is sequenced perfectly.
@@tylerjacobson8012 this album really shows their skills not just as songwriters but album writers; they've always been great at it but this one excels!
The Beast + Skeleton of Splendor + Teardrinker
jeez, the tracks' order is perfect! they just flow one to each other like a river
This song kind of enhanced my liking of teardrinker
This is back to Crack The Skye level. Even beyond. The vocal melody in the bridge is so haunting. This is it.
Actually, I briefly assumed it was a CTS song after hearing it live
It's definitely the best album they've put out since Crack the Skye and I think it's better personally. I don't know how well Crack the Skye has aged, but this album feels like timeless, classic rock.
3:16 mind blowing. I love this part so much. This is definitely one of the gems of the album
Sounds similar to Pink Floyd
YESSS this part gave me goosebumps bro it really hits hard
It is the gem of the album. It’s such a dynamic atmospheric song. I legitimately think it might be one of their top 3 best songs. I put it up there with The Czar and The Last Baron.
@@tylerjacobson8012 whew, the last baron is up there for me also, this song just keeps creeping on me it’s so fucking good. And the production is CRYSTAL CLEAR.
@@user-uu9ln8kh5i exactly, like Welcome to the machine!
This album is dynamic and mature. Love this evolution of the band. Little bit of everything masterfully woven together
3:16 ❤
What an outstanding album.
'Skeleton Of Splendor' is a brilliant song, peaceful and calm, i always love that kind of songs into a Heavy and Crushed album. In love with this new 'Hushed and Grim' record. Again... Great job guys!!!!
3:15 Gave me goosebumps!
You really owe it to yourselves to hear this song live. It is absolutely massive and an incredibly spiritual experience.
That guitar solo is perfect.. Not too much and not too little.... Just the perfect amount of fucking awesome..
This album takes me somewhere really special every time I listen. It's a masterpiece.
So godlike. Been listening since Crack The Skye when I was in middle school. Glad to see the boys are still going strong with the sound no one else can provide.
This record gets better and better once you get to fully digest it
The band of the moment right now for me. Not only the best album they've done but the best vocal performances they've delivered. 🎶👍🙏💫🎉🌠🍾😊
This is my favorite song on the album after one listen through. The “to my detriment” hook is just so good
This ones absolutely haunting
I can't get over that keyboard lead in the bridge. It's really mind numbing and reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd's Animals album. It really makes Mastodon great.
Pretty sure the guys said they listened to Animals a lot during the making of this album
The emotional weight of this song almost crushes you. Fantastic stuff 👏
Dude…. That guitar solo is phenomenal
Best album since Crack the Skye. I love this so much
I have listened to this album in its entirety so many times. Each time I pick up something new and wonderfully engaging. Such a masterpiece. The quality of this creation is superior and should not be minimized, it is a work of art!
Man... Those synth sounds. Very Pink Floyd and very, very goosebump inducing.
This has to be one of my favorites on the album. Such intense feelings of nostalgia despite being a new track. This is an experience.
Has alice in chains, aperfect circle and soundgarden 90s vibes but prog.
Every song has moments Mastodon has never taken us before. Troy really showed in this how amazingly versatile he can use his voice. Love it
I've been waiting for this song ever since I heard it on that Aquarium concert trailer.
It's like they are singing into their music, hoping someone, something will hear it and understand it.
Troy’s vocals are amazing on this album
Troy's vocals really remind me of Testament's Chuck Billy here. Amazing work.
Masterpiece Song and Album
It's been an amazing 20 years for this band--never afraid to grow and expand their sound, and we as listeners have been lucky to be along for the ride.
Turn it up all the way with headphones on. It will change your brain waves. Enhance your spirit. And DESTROY your nerves. Amazing band
3:15 oh I finally found the part that I heard in the ad for the Atlanta aquarium concert!! Lol
Thank god people are still writing awesome music
Now this one's very different for mastodon, i dig it. and then the synth kicks in, yo!
One of the greatest hard rock albums of all time?
I prefer Crack The Skye but this is pretty close, honestly.
I think this may not be one of the best metal albums (per se), but it is one of the best music LP's of all time. If that makes sense.
@@aleksandarradovanovic8496 I mean I'm having trouble following that logic lol but sure. All I know is that I've been on this constant journey of music discovery for 30 years now, everything from Roy Orbison to Infant Annihilator, and this is probably in my top 10 favorite albums ever. I love Crack the Skye too, but this album just has a musical maturity to me without losing any of the trademarked Mastodon song structures and emotional grandeur. Even the last track, with it's simpler, more straight forward nature is a fucking masterpiece to me. Idk just love this album and it's been on rotation since it's dropped.
@@aleksandarradovanovic8496 ??
Great song. Mastodon is the best stoner metal band!!
The music of Mastodon, brought to you by the agony of love and adoration. Beautiful tribute boys. Much love.
Perdi a mi abuela esta semana.. y vaya que este disco me ha ayudado en el proceso de sanar..
Asi va ser. El ciclo purificador de la vida donde todo en algun momento no someteremos. A disfrutar de la buena musica 🙏
I love the keyboards. They add so much of a mood. Then Dirty B. comes in and rips and makes the sadness beautiful.
3:43
chills......
That jam in the middle is the absolute best!..Awesome talent!
My buddy introduced me to these guys in Afghanistan...been a fan ever since.
Unbelievaly good album, their best work so far
Good album...but not their best work by far.
Wayyy back when I was 16 and just learning what music was...THESE guys come into my life with Remission....and so started my trip into one of the best bands ever...a band that showed me through good times and bad times.....a band that moved me so IMMENSELY that I am a fan to this day......I'm proud of you boys
It's always been there but it seems like an old mate love tapping me on the shoulder. With you thick n thin n grim dudes. Perfect cathartic timing. Here's to Rock City back then x
Aye, well said.
Un pur chef d'oeuvre ..quel voyage! Merci 🙏❤🤘🇨🇵 can't tame my excitement seeing you live ..
I recently Found mastodon in jail and has helped with my resentments and patience and general well-being they have great riffs and the drummer is on that danny carey neil pert level hell they all are great. I havent hardly listened to music in years cause of homelessness and drugs. I am a better person for this band mastodon thank you for inspiring me to listen to music again and to grow...
To my detriment... I forge ahead unscarred 😎
i love this so much! Waited so long for this song! Trully life changing material!
that bridge! that fucking keyboard! yes!
It’s ok, to let the tears out.
rasta destroy all on keyboards
Alcohism has kept asleep in the deep. And I've awakened to this gem of an album. I thank God I've been allowed to live to experience this amazing piece of art.
So haunting, love this song!
Vocês são inacreditáveis! Que música mais absurdamente transcendental. Obrigado, caras!
Beautiful! 🖤🖤🖤
diggin the MOOG solo
This song is really something special. Troy has really improved as a singer!
Sweetness and emotion.
This song makes me feel so peaceful 😌🌷 Troy's voice is so soothing! 💜💙💚
This album continues to blow me away.
Incredible song. Just amazing.
Resembles in musicianship, what we now consider to be classic albums. So too will this be considered in years to come. 🤘🏻
This one got the tears flowin.
Ethereal and unreal, how do Mastodon do it!
The album is soooooo good !
That solo...😍😍😍
So beautiful
blown away
Wow. Speechless.
very cool track, thanx guys, you are true rockers
Does not get any better then this. Fantastic song from yet another fantastic album. I commend you guys 💀👍
Very beautiful metal!!
Love this entire album, but this cut is a favorite.
Just brilliant
Shivers!
This and "Had it All" are two instant stand out tracks from this album imo. They're just so beautifully crafted it's unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, i love the rest of the album too...but these two are just on another level for me
More than I could chew is in there for me
God I love the sound of those guitars in the intro of this song then Troy comes in and soothes us all.
Alot of aperfect circle vibes. The doomed, talk talk, vibes.
Fantastic
Bill is a Workhorse
Troy is the Leviathan
Brann is blood and thunder
Brent is cracked in the skye
Art
Troy killed it.
Capolavoro assoluto beautiful epico grazie mastodontico
I really dig this album. Its like a hybrid between three most recent albums; compositionally I get a lot of similarities to The Hunter & OMRTS and with the bigger sounding production that was featured on Emperor of Sand. Great job Mastobois!!! Btw that synth line at around the 3:10 mark is completely orgasmic.....
best song of the album
Omg!!!!! That is where that song in the commercial from the aquarium show ad was from!!!!!!!! YESSSSSS
Finally we get to hear the teaser track from the live stream from the aquarium. That synth bridge is from another universe
I forge ahead unscarred. So epic can't wait for the tour.
Between this and The Sparrow...hard to pick a favorite
