Battle of the Q50/Q60 Rear Diff Braces | Do they even work?

  • Head to Head comparison of Z1 Motorsports and Pride Rear Diff brace for the Q50 and Q60 platform. Let's see what they're made of.
    I don't believe everyone has wheel hop, but those that do look into these brace videos before making a purchase. I get asked all the time if the braces make you go faster/quicker. These braces will not net you a quicker time UNLESS you suffer from wheel hop. Other than that they are a supporting modification.
    One thing I forgot to mention is that the Diff Bushings comes with 5 bushings. It does require more labor as well. It’s really not for the average DIY guy.

    Great video. I have had the Pride V1 for about 6 months and have been very happy with it, but recently bought the Z1 brace because I liked the mount points better. Only issue is I find my Fast intentions exhaust is very close to those mount points and makes installation more difficult. I'll have to watch out for stripping bolts when I try to put it on, if I even bother now that you have shown there is no real noticeable difference. Thanks for the great info.

      @@soled24 I'm AWD... it looks like it will be tight, but should fit. Will be very little clearance between the top of the subframe bolts and the exhaust pipes. Will probably have to remove exhaust to put the Z1 on. The Pride one goes right on without all that work.

    Just installed the Pride V2 diff brace on my Q as well. So far, so good. The flex is reduced and no NVH is a plus. The rear end on my Q is slightly stiffer. I'm not sure if this is a placebo effect, but its shifting response is much better. Before installing this, there are no wheel hops during hard accelerations. With the brace on, what is wheel hop anyway?

    v2 certainly looks to be a better design than v1, I will give them that. But the overall design and engineering goes to z1. The single mounting point of the pride brace is less than ideal and the construction is no where near as durable as a solid cast piece like Z1s. If you have a fresh diff bushing, you won't notice a massive difference in flex, especially if awd where the rear is not taking all of the torque. But the welds on the thin material and the single mounting point will become an issue if you are making significant power and getting any amount of grip--especially over time.

    • @ZillaFullBoost
      @ZillaFullBoost  Před 2 lety +4

      I do believe the design is better with Z1, but in terms of durability I’ve put the Pride to the test cutting 1.49-1.55 60 ft’s many times over on drag radials. I haven’t had issues. My diff bushing has 64k miles on it and I’m RWD making upwards of 540 RWTQ.

    This should be informative if done right. Will be interesting to watch. I had this question too but have not wanted to spend the additional money for the Z1 brace to compare. I drive a white 19' q50 3.0t. I have the PA V1 with the additional sleeve. Been on my car since late April 2021. The downside of the Z1 is the fitment hassle plus more $ but the upside is it looks fancier.

    • @GettingthruLife
      @GettingthruLife Před 2 lety

      From watching the scenes multiple times, it appears the Z1 produced less favorable results, slight more wheel hop and traction loss. Could just be due to many different variables and not the braceitself but it looked like the Pride Auto V2run provided the best results. When I reinstalled mine after receiving my PAuto steel insert sleeve, I purchased two steel washers of different sizes. I put the larger one between the diff brace and the subframe outter wall and then I put the smaller washer as a precautionary measure just inside the bolt head. Also shopped for higher grade/strength class bolt but could not find an appropriately sized replacement at stores around me.

    • @ZillaFullBoost
      @ZillaFullBoost  Před 2 lety +1

      Yea I like the idea of adding the additional washers. Overall, the Pride brace held up with all the abuse I’ve thrown at it. I see it as affordable insurance.

    Great video but the weld itself is not going to be stronger than the base material. It depends on the filler material which would be the weld and it depends on the basement material itself for example hsla 65. Usually in process or in service failures or discontinuities or defects happen at the weld due to its potential weakness. Now something that is casted as one solid piece does have areas of potential weakness usually where you have changes in geometric design or sharp angles. It all depends on the shape and the use of the casted piece of metal as well as what it is cast out of. I just wanted to put these things out to you to help other viewers and maybe you understand the differences between the two components a little better.

    • @ZillaFullBoost
      @ZillaFullBoost  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the info. Not sure what filler Pride uses, but I can verify it has hundreds of launches under its belt. Cast has pockets which makes for weak points as well. Makes sense for it to fail on sharp or stressed areas. Again thanks for chiming in 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

    running a drag radial automatically reduces the chance of wheel hop. on all three versions on the street, you can hear wheel hop. you can still see the pride auto V2 mount wiggling around at the top bolt. it WILL wallow out over time, no thanks. the diff brace isnt how to stop wheel hop. it will help but not much. that doesnt mean the products are bad, just the mount alone isnt the cure.
    all 3 times you hear wheelhop, you can see the IRS cradle moving all over the place. that is what needs to be addressed. the mickey mouse inserts dont count as filling the voids does nothing for the super soft durometer rubber bushings. the Q50/60 needs poly inserts for the IRS cradle, that would be FAR more beneficial than ANY diff mount.
    something else that would be IMMENSELY beneficial would be better toe links. take a vid of your rear tire on a launch, they will have A LOT of toe change on stock links. any arm that uses rod ends will be helpful.
