Q50 Rear Diff Brace Installation AND Test | Z1 Motorsports

  • Unbelievable! I was NOT expecting to FEEL this diff brace as much as I did. You will see in the video clips that some movement in the bushing remains, even after the brace is installed, but the "feel" of the car is completely different.
    The installation of this brace is pretty straight forward, but I have to say that with the car on ramps, it was impossible to get all bolt holes to line up and or bolts to thread. Something seemed way off.
    I then put the car on stands and let the rear wheels hang. That allowed the differential to shift a little. The holes still did not line up all that well, but I was able to tweak things enough to get them started in each hole. Slowly tightening them each a little at a time, I was able to get the brace secured into place and test it on the road. Again, although there still appears to be visible movement in the bushing, the rigidity this brace adds and the change in the feel of the car is VERY clear!
    Stay tuned for further testing!
    In summary--if you're rear diff bushing is badly warn/failed, you may experience some difficulty in installing this brace as mounting holes may not line up properly. Try relieving pressure from the diff by using a floor jack or by getting the diff bolts started first.

    What method and percentage of tail light tint did you go with, (shown in thumbnail), I’m looking to get mine done on my 2016 Red Sport. One shop does spray tint, can’t make a decision on that due to it being permanent. I’ve tried two methods of film, (cut outs and a large strip), neither of those worked well enough for me to do it.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  Před 2 lety

      It’s sprayed. 4 coats VHT. Wet sanded with 1500 grit. 6 coats clear. Wet sand 2000 grit. Polished and sealed. You can always sand through it to remove it. I prepped spray because you can get it much glossier and you can determine the level of tint

      the welds on the other brand were less of a problem than the tin foil it was made from. the other diff brace is too thin and flexible with an inferior mounting solution. that part was put out with little thought or understanding of how it needed to function.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  Před 2 lety +1

      This brace, in combination with Z1 subframe collars, will have a huge impact on how the car feels and transfers power to the ground. I was quite surprised how snappy the car feels after install. You can feel the rigidity, but the tire response to the throttle seems much quicker as that energy is now not being absorbed through the rubber bushings quite as much.
