The best part about Dark Riku is that his voice lines really exemplify what he is: an incredibly edgy 14-year old.

He even fights like he's being controlled by a human player. Attack canceling, blocking to prevent punishment, switching from offense to defense. Even his stun animation is the same. This fight was a nostalgia trip for me!

I also thought he was the most convincingly real fighter. Even though there is a pattern to his movements he is probably one of the smartest A.I.s in the DLC. Ironic seeing as he his canonically one of the weakest Organization XIII members all things considered.
Yeah, it felt more like a duel between two fighters than a boss fight

I kind of like how this fight incorporates elements from the many Riku boss fights through the series. He's got his original Dark Aura and energy shockwaves from KH, the Helm Split attack from Chain of Memories, the barrier and Darkstrom from 385/2, and his tendency to sent out dark mines in circles mirrors Data Riku's danger block attack in Coded. It's like a mix-and-match of gameplay from hell!
PD: I also like that his boss theme is simply the remix used for his cutscene with Xigbar, a song fans have been asking about for quite some time.

Actually Ansem has won. 100 times until you find an outcome that you finally defeat Dark Riku against all odds.
The benefit of him being such a berserker is that he doesn’t actually change his fight patterns after losing half his health, unlike the other data fights
Also, something to note
He’s actually vulnerable each time he does his big multi waves, even during his Dark Aura attack
So you can actually interrupt Dark Aura

The worst thing about this fight are the unblockable red sparks that shoot out the ground
I love how this fight looks, especially how Riku feels like a player with his dodging and shielding, but damn do I have trouble reading him.
Also his DM is the bane of me.
can it even be called a 'desperation' move? The bitch will pull it out even when you haven't done a single point of damage to him.
Its a bitch right? I can block it consistently though you just have to remember to dodge roll/ Ariel dodge as soon as u guard the hit that comes from above you as the Red unblockable bits will appear and fuck u.

I went against Young Xehanort first and thought "there could be nothing worse than this." Now I'm fighting Dark Riku and I can't even get one bar off because of this very reason. Just when I think I found an opening, his lightning stops me or he barriers.
Okay..this was definitely KH1 Dark Riku on steroids!
And human growth hormone.

Fun fact: you can block his counter, meaning you can counter a counter with a counter.
Counterception
The timing is SUPER tight and won’t work in most cases.
This only works if either…
A. Sora uses counter kick to I frame tf out of the entire animation then guards immediately after the animation. (Little time to react be cause by then the attack bubble will disappear)
Or
B. Take a gamble at the keyblade phasing through the shield but still plays it’s swinging animation then block into counter. A minor bug is that sometimes the keyblade will sometimes just phase into the wall but still leave sparks and sparkles behind like it hit the wall which usually leads into an parry/attack deflect or a wall clang.
This won’t hurt Data Riku but will buy you time for a guard with almost 0 risk.

Giovanni Benoit I'd actually disagree on that. He looked like he was having some serious trouble fighting her during the exam, and that's part of why his darkness flared up, fear of losing. plus there's the whole beating Terranort thing.
@@Aqua_Wren Xehanort was already interfering with the exam to push Terra's emotions. Terra is naturally stronger than Aqua. Aqua is more gifted in magic and Ven is the fastest.

This gave me so much nostalgia from all the childhood memories of dying contently to this guy in vanilla KH1.😢😭😨🤕

Nothing is more exciting than seeing an absolutely relentless onslaught from both Riku and Sora to this OST.
They really outdid themselves with these bosses. They're incredible.

yea it surprises me because i though he was not going to be that fast after i beat vanitas
and i was wrong, vanitas was way slower compare to him
Actualy was the esyest for me but i only fought saix youn north and larxene up until now.
And yet every website i have seen said that dark riku was the easiest. What the hell? I have easier time defeating xigbar, young xehanort and marluxia compared to this fast little shit lol

FrozenYoBurt same here, he just has so many attacks and shit can go south real quick if you miss one block or dodge. just seems like a million things come flying at you that you have to keep your eye on, and his patterns always seem to throw me off.

This Dark Aura it’s finally back thank you 😊 and he added more things oooooh my it’s my favorite attack in the series
Amazing per usual, Will. Always satisfying and entertaining! But I’ve got a challenge for you:
In the future once you’re bored and you’ve bullied the other bosses, perhaps we can get a pure “KH1 style” rematch with the Kingdom Key? Not just that, but:
-No Shotlock
-Minimal Air Combos
-No air dodging
-No formchanges
-Limited Magic(one cast every two seconds for best effect unless using Firaga)
Doesn’t even have to be a “no damage” run. Just fighting Data Repliku as if it was KH1/1.5.

The only boss so far that actually dodges around and shields (Xion doesn't count for dodging that's just her dashing to attack like KH2 Roxas). Feels like a mild level player actually playing the Riku Replica.

Sometimes I doubt if Kingdom Hearts was actually a good game series or not, but it's stuff like this that points out that its gameplay was top tier.
The most difficult of fights are impossible at first, winnable with experience, and perfectable with study.
I hope Kingdom Hearts goes down in gaming history for its fun gameplay at all levels and not for its convoluted plot.

This is really fun to watch and overall a very cinematic bossfight (as they should be in my opinion), it's a shame the main game didn't have fights like this. Moreover it's very difficult to no damage it, so congratz!
I really like when you do fights with out restrictions, I love seeing you use formchanges and magic.
Great videos! Quick question though. What is the purpose of healing when you are at full health? Also, why does your air dash go so much further than mine does even though I have all three base air dashes equipped at level 99?
cure converter, basically I earn forms faster from curing. I took off aerial dodge so Sora uses air slide instead which is much better
Pro tip: You can easily guess his next attack by paying attention to the dark triangles he cast. There's 4 type of attack here.
This is not a precise guide, I need to replay this fight since I already forgot his moves, but here's a gist for example:
- Vertical triangle (Looks like a path) -> He'll jump away to do a slashing shockwave, and then another jump for a slam. Guard the slam, and proceed blocking his combo. There will be an opportunity.
- Circular triangle -> He'll slash you immediately. Guard.
- Circular triangle (After combo-ed) -> He'll jump at you and put red lasers on the ground. Guard and dodge to avoid lasers. He'll cast shadows and throw red blades at you, dodge. He'll then continue casting another triangle, pay attention to it.
- Stairs-like triangle -> He'll warp and do a faint-block. He'll warp again to throw red blades and dash towards you multiple times. Dodge the first blade and block immediately, you'll have your opening now.
His DM is also pretty easy to figure out:
1. He'll start by doing a slash wave from the middle and charge at you soon after, block all.
2. After blocking, he'll cast lasers, dodge them
3. He'll dash again at you, block, he casts laser, dodge.
4. He'll dash again at you, block, he casts laser, dodge.
--- End of first set of attacks ---
5. After his 3rd (Or last) laser, he'll jump to at you, so block immediately.
6. Step 1 + 2, then block his jump attack and counter guard to stagger. He'll also cast multiple lasers in this last part. You can counter guard and he'll stagger, but I suggest escape immediately (Unless you have form change) despite the opening just in case you're unlucky with the lasers.
Imo one of the easier fight since there's preparation before his actual attack, unlike many other bosses who just slashes at you without warning.

It's so unfair that Dark Riku gets to have the barrier guard AND he can move while doing it. All I've ever wanted to do was move and guard at the same time. I guess that's what the power of darkness can do for you lol

This used to be my least favourite fight because it was that hard I'd just die in 3 or 4 hits. Then I stopped blocking and switched to dodging more often, and the difficulty was way easier. Now this is my favourite KH3 data org fight. It's chaotic but fun to dodge all the attacks

And this one really makes me question Xehanort's recruitment criteria. I mean, this was just a copy of a kid who destroyed it and grew up to be a vastly more powerful warrior. He would be canon fodder at best when compared to the rest of the roster.

@@vadandrumist1670 no one remember her, but Vexen's record proves that she has connection to Sora. They need a heart that is connected to Sora for whatever reason. They did not think that she had memories with Sora's Nobody, Roxas. They did not count the possibility of her betraying them when she regain her memories.
Vadan Drumist The norted thing didn’t really make sense anyways since apparently just smacking keys together is enough to make part of the x-blade. Xigbar was “half-Xehanort”...but what does that even mean? Why would MX only half nort him?
As for Xion, in Re:Mind, the Org discuss how MX doesn’t really give a shit who the 7 lights and 13 Darknesses are, he just needs numbers. I guess he could have just split himself into a heartless and nobody if he really was hurting for more numbers.

I'd love this fight more if he couldn't do his DM almost right away. I've had him do 1 short combo, that I couldn't even get an opening in, and he went right into his DM only 60 seconds into the fight. Way to go though man! Your fights are as epic are always. The skill level I aim to achieve one day on these data battles, you make these look like child's play.

I found out one thing about this battle. If you hit him while he is doing the guard thing, wait till he does the counter and then hit him as fast as you can because he will be staggered. That’s how I was able to win against him. That and sheer luck and this video helped me out a lot.

I learned in most instances where he teleports close to you if you time it you can interrupt him before he attacks
You should make a video on some advanced techniques. When is the best time to switch keyblades mid combo , gauge management, and canceling animations with jumps, dodges and blocks. 👀
I remember chain of memories of this Riku Replica, and he though he had the upper hand. Now it’s Grown Up Sora’s turn to “wipe the floor” with him xD

I never really understood where they got those Darkness Hourglass Bombs for Dark Riku. But they DO do a very good job of simulating the claustrophobia of his KH1 stage. Like, oh no! Suddenly you're stuck in a tight circle with this energetic Darkness Boi flying around, nostalgic.
Ansem also had those and both of them reuse the ground trap from Anti Black Coat, I think they're supossed to be common darkness abilities

Swag Yolosmith Same. Tbh Dark Riku and Saix are the ones I had to just dodge spam because there movements were too inconsistent for me. Dark Riku gives me chills because he just does a bunch of stuff at once it’s hard to figure out what to do. Saix just spams unblockable attacks but Dark Riku was just a nightmare to fight.
