  • The Colorado Avalanche used a five goal 3rd period to run away from the Winnipeg Jets in Game 3 of their first round series, 6-2. The Avs now hold a 2-1 series lead and look to take a commanding 3-1 lead on Sunday in Denver.
    The Avalanche have continued to beat Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck and their lead leading defense has yet to find a way to stop the potent Avalanche offense. Can it continue in Game 4?
    We break it all down in including the very ugly ending to Game 3 that left the ice in blood. Why it wasn't necessary.

    Love how chessmaster Bednar adapts in real-time to the Jet's responses. He's keeping them on reactive rather than predictive hockey.
    He didn't tip his hand to them during the regular season, either. Sticking to the rope-a-dope theory here :^)

    Some additional intangibles. First is that playoff Lehky is in full force and dear lord, probably the most clutch player in the league this time of year. Second is Parise moving up the lineup with the injury to Drouin is working out nicely. Was concerned with him being out when the series started and have almost forgotten about it now. Third is that Val has stepped it up and maybe that final regular season game woke the sleeping giant. If he doesn’t play well, the Avs don’t make a deep run so incredibly encouraging. And yeah, Mitts looking like a legit 2nd line center is massive as he’s making the guys next to him look great as well which is what good centers do. Was a little worried about Sammy G being rusty but he looked great. And loving the energy and contributions from the bottom six. Everyone just playing very inspired hockey right now and this team is radiating confidence throughout the lineup. This version of the Avs can beat any team in the league. Only concern today is the start time. Avs haven’t been good in most early start games but it’s playoffs so I think the intensity will be there this afternoon. LFG AVS!

    I think the team immediately rallying around Georgie after he just had maybe his worst performance ever, really settled him mentally. Hes back to the relaxed, smooth Georgiev that looks like hes having fun again. Also Hellebuyk aint Vasi lol Vasi can truly be a teams defense single handedly if necessary

    It is interesting that goal wise...georgiev is as of game 3 the better goal tender. as georgiev has let in 11 and helleybuck has let in 15. So good for georgiev. And given that georgiev has tightened up I expected helleybuck to tighten in game 3 for a clap back but he didn't and if he doesn't in game 4 and georgiev keeps it up then i think the avs can take it in game 5 or 6.
    Also apparently the jets have never come back from a 2-1 deficit in the playoffs. Not saying that wont change but its an interesting stat if true...
    Plus i thought georgiev's recent play got even better in game 3 because i had a hard time blaming him for either goal. As the first was just really unlucky, like if that puck was an inch in any other direction i don't think it would've went in. But dont get me wrong i saw him shoft a bit expecting a pass but even then i understand why he'd do it and i thought he made a good recovery when he realized. And the second one was a tough screen on a power play. And I also thought that the defense could have challanged the jets a bit more and possibly prevented that shot from being set up at that point but thats imo.

      @matambale valid, and I'm not saying the altitude doesn't play a factor, but it's a slim factor at best. If it was a massive advantage to the home team, then you'd think historically that all major Colorado sports teams would be dominant juggernauts versus going through the same ups and downs that all franchises face.

    Man is nice seeing the avs string some wins. Georgiev getting his playoff vibes. Tighten up defensively and give winnepeg no room to tie the series. Let's go AVs, hopefully Dillons hand isnt a major cut. Looks pretty bad.

  • @qp2044
    @qp2044 Před 16 dny

    So far the avs have been able to force Winnepeg to play the avs game. Maybe not for all 60 minutes, but enough to keep the jets from finding a groove while the avs get the goals they need.
    As far as penalties go if that is any teams excuse they dont have much hope for a long season. The major and delay of game were clear cut. Interference calls just arent happening, and the trip/hooks seem to come in pairs. One for each. Special teams execution is the real difference here

  • @ryanjulian4148
    @ryanjulian4148 Před 17 dny

    Biggest difference I find between the playoffs this year, last year and regular season is Avs overall defense. Georgiev was amazing last season, how much of last year's loss to Kraken did he put on himself. This year I think that guilty cause him to try to do too much at times, especially knowing Franky would not be returning. Last year if he was in position especially down low he was going to make that save. Just like last year playoffs the Avs had key D out for stretches at a time or playing injured this year. The backend is the backbone on how the Avs wanted to play for the last 4 years.

    I’m pretty ambivalent towards Dillon. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I knew that with a big, bully team, they’d start the goonery. Furthermore, the Jets were pretty chirpy and cocky earlier in the series. Interesting. I think this series still goes 6-7. With Georgie being up and down, it’s still too hard to say who will win.
    Go Avs.

    This team is looking better than the 2022 team especially considering the star players have not even hit their highest gear. If georgiev keeps playing like this I don’t know of any team that can stop the avalanche. Helle has looked really good I don’t think he is playing terrible that’s just what happens when you face the avalanche offense. The avs are super good at taking the best goalies in the world and giving them a wedgie (I’m looking at you vassy) I think Vegas will be the hardest team but I think the avs can take em for sure

    7:24 nah you HAVE to blame Georgie for that. I’ve been very vocal about my disdain for his inconsistency ALL season. But I thought Georgie was fantastic last night outside of that toffoli goal. He was tracking the puck better than I’ve seen him in a LONG, LONG time. As soon as the 1p horn went I turned to my dad and said that might’ve been his best period of hockey as an av. And to get back to the togfoli goal I agree with edzo. It looked to me like Georgie expected the pass bit early and gave a little light between his pad and post on that one. And I totally expected that one to begin the snowball effect but to Georgie’s credit he focused back in and was solid the rest of the night.
    The boys putting up that 6 spot in game 1 REALLY helped him mentally I think. He finally realized “oh wait, I don’t HAVE to be perfect. I can make a mistake or 2 not let it effect the rest of my game and my team is good enough to pick me up”. Maybe it has nothing to do with it but I think having that little bit of confidence that 1 mistake won’t cost you the game is a HUGE boost. Hope he continues to play this way, with the way we’re scoring no one would stop us if Georgie can turn back into the guy we thought we were getting when we snapped him up before last season.
    Edit: with the return of mikail sergachev (insane recovery time from a broken leg) it restored my hope that we might see the captain if we can make it to the 2nd round. I don’t expect it, but a boy can dream
    Edit2: mikko has been pedestrian for his standards in these 3 games. I hope the concussion isn’t slowing him down at all. As a Yankee fan last season we saw a concussion turn Anthony rizzo season from a career resurgence to a near career ending disaster. Hopefully everything’s good w mikko noggin
    Edit 3: 36:18 I really don’t think hellebuyck has even been that bad. The Avs are just absolutely fucking relentless. That kiviranta trenin cogliano line is playing unreal hockey for a 4th line. Zach parise had 4 goals in the regular season he’s scored in each of the last 2 games. Brandon duhaime is the most hated person in winnepeg right now. The depth is playing outrageous hockey right now and the jets seem to be on their heels. The shot margin is insane after 3 games. Avs are putting up 45 a night
