when you poured the tin bronze at the beginning, after pouring the anvil you didn't have any more bronze left. Unless you poured something else before that, this means that you only made 900 units of tin bronze. However, the most efficient ratio for tin bronze is in chunks of 500 units, each costing 8 cassiterite nuggets. Assuming you used 15 nuggets to make 900 units, at the optimal 8% ratio this means that you could have made 937 units. Basically, you wasted a third of a tin bronze ingot. If you had used 16 nuggets then you could have poured both an anvil and a pickaxe at the most efficient rate.
You've got a good eye for detail, I most definitely only made 900 units of tin bronze.
This likely won't be the last time I forget to do the math for alloy optimization, but I'll use this as a reminder to run the numbers before throwing nuggets into the crucible in wasteful ratios lol
@@Solstin This may be asking a lot, but if you get a chance could you please quickly explain to viewers the right ratio (8 nuggets to 5 ingots)? Your videos are really good so this will encourage other players to also not waste their tin. This is especially important because bronze anvil + bronze pickaxe is the bare minimum to get into iron age, and it lines up nicely with the ratio.
I think there's also an alloy calculator somewhere that can do the math for them, so maybe show them that too.
@@someonerandom704 Not a bad idea. That would definitely be a topic covered in an eventual Temporal Institute episode but I can bring it up in a future Eisenholm episode if the moment feels right!

I wish I could put out a video more than roughly once a week, but with working full time and my other obligations outside of work it doesn't leave me with a whole heap of time each week...
BUT I'm trying to figure out a more efficient schedule to hopefully give me a bit of wiggle room to get either a buffer of a couple episodes or even just more time in general to upload more frequently!

Also! something interesting you may or may not be aware you're doing: you are actually following the same sort of pattern that's seen in a lot of old Anglo-Saxon homesteads in England! When the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes began to settle in Post-Roman Britain, they started with simple pit houses, usually not more than one room, and with a central hearth. Over time, though, the more permanent houses were established closer to their farms and fields, and the old pit houses began to be used more as storage sheds and workshops. Does this have anything to do with your pit house-to-regular house progression? Probably not, but I thought it was neat!
Oh that's really interesting! It wasn't intentional at all, it just tends to be my natural go-to in any survival game, but it makes a lot of sense why that would've been done historically.
Guess I'm unintentionally following in my ancestors' footsteps!
(Also, isolation isn't causing the insanity, it's been inside me the whole time :P)

Haha yeah there's some silliness in the animations like that. There's a blacksmithing mod that adds smithing gloves which make a bit more visual sense lol

Also if you're interested in integrating storage in chiseled furniture you should check out the mod called QP's chisel tools, it allows you to do that and many other things!

I've played around with the doors and ladders functions quite a bit, but the chiseled storage containers will be new territory for me. I don't think I'll use it for the kitchen cabinets, though, at least not until after I've tested if the countertop would still be usable as a surface after being made into a chiseled chest.
Oh well, now that you make me think of it I just remembered that I tried the same thing, and no the chiseled storage doesn't act as a surface unfortunately...I hope the author of the mod will be able to do something about it

Well I used to do anime fandubs back in the mid 2000s before getting a university diploma in acting for stage and screen, so maybe it's about time I start auditioning for indie game VO work lol

Clutter you once get as an Item can be placed and broken for ever! Just the First time decides if its breaks or not
Is that a recent change? I've broken plenty of clutter after trying to pick it back up a 2nd time, but maybe that's only with specific items
You should change the dirt to stone in your cellar. It'll help preserve the food even longer
When I build out the proper cellar I'll definitely be lining it with some kind of stone for aesthetics, but mechanically dirt and stone are both equally viable for cellar preservation calculations!

Unless it's intentional... did you know you can craft 2 "single" chests to make a large trunk.
Yep! I was keeping them as single chests so I could move them around with the CarryOn mod until their place was solidified. I do turn them into trunks in a later episode after the kitchen is put together :)
@@Solstin aah that's smart... I haven't dabbled with mods yet so I'm always going for big storage asap lol. I never thought of thinking of each chest as a different resource "backpack".
Just a question: can you chisel a rock and then mine it? You used to be able to do this. Basically just touch it once with a chisel to render it as a microblock and you can pick it up by just mining it. You can't use those rocks in crafting but you can get a stone block with one chisel tap and one pickaxe durability instead of digging 5 blocks around it plus however many to get to them
You still can, absolutely, but I needed to be able to turn the chert and claystone into polished rock so I had to do it the hard way lol
