Thank you very much for the video, it saved me a ton of time and money fixing this myself. Instead of breaking the plastic piece that houses resistor I drilled out the rivets (one on each end that holds the resistor base plate to the plastic housing) and worked it apart pretty easily, but I got that idea from watching you breaking the resistor piece our of the harness connector, that is a good idea and it's something I wouldn't have thought of. I would have definitely broken the clips so thank you! Also, my electrical terminals were really corroded so I put conductive anti corrosion grease (the stuff they use when making connections with aluminum wire, it's available in several brands) and used a tiny jewelers flat blade screwdriver to clean out all the terminals in the harness. I didn't clean them good enough the first time so had to do it again. Everything working now thanks again!!
Great video! I was trying to break away the pieces of the resistor and the whole harness fell apart. They welded themselves together. So I replaced the harness and the resistor. Back in business with 4 fan speeds!! Helpful video!
Spent $10 on the part and installed following your instructions. You saved me big time!! It works great!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching. Please let us know how the repair comes out!

Had exactly this same problem with my 99 F250 super duty. Video was great, but I had same problem as Duane C with the male connector leads disintegrated. I also bought this connector, cut old wires and spliced in those from the connector pigtail. Somewhat tough to get at, but all the speeds on my fan now work!
I've been trying to figure this out for months. No more frozen toes for me. Barnabas. Thanks guys
You may want to check the blower motor resistor to see if it's working correctly.
Great Video Guys Awesome Job. We find out that it is easier to disconnect AC drier connector to be able easily remove those 2 small 8mm bolts.
I found that drilling out the 2 rivets on top and prying out the contacts was a lot easier than nipping away at all the plastic. Once the contacts were pulled out, the plastic came right off.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. It made the operation pretty easy. My luck is that I will have the worst possible situation... I have big hands, so getting the bottom bolt out was a little tougher, used a long extension to get to it. When I got it out, the board was fried, corroded and the connector was burnt. Tried to save it, but wasn't possible. Ended up buying another connector and splicing it in. Everything works like a dream on my heater/AC now on my '00 Excursion. Resistor $25, Plug with pigtails $18. Not having to go to the Stealership and have them do it for a couple hundred bucks... that's priceless.
Thank you for watching!

Had the same issue but blower motor still won't come on. You think the blower is toast?
On my 2000 F350 the blower quit working a few times for a while (wouldn't work on any speed) and then it would come back ON and work fine for a while. Following your guidance here, I unplugged the blower; checked between ground on the battery and one terminal -- got a light which means the hot feed is good (key on; blower swtich on) and checked between the positive terminal and the remaining plug terminal -- also got a light which means the ground is good. Read somewhere to tap the metal hub (lightly) at the center of the blower. They sometimes get stuck . . . and ours started turning right away! This, of course, means the blower is on its last leg (no surprise after 266,000 miles) but it's working for now. Thanks for your excellent assistance! :)

I have pretty much the same problem. Before inrepalced anything I unplugged blower motor and pulled back in and it came back on. But went out after a few days and a few taps brought it back to life. So if I have replace the resistor and a burnt out connector that I discovered and the blower motor still isn't engaging. You think the blower motor is toast?
Grease is not a good conductor, use die electric grease and an electrical cleaner, clean up the wire spades or replace them.
thanks for taking time and showing us how to DIY. worked for me. 25.00 fix

Great. Might want to use contact cleaner for the connectors and dielectric grease for the grease though. Thanks.
This guy has control! I wouldve been cussing so much this wouldve been R rated
nice work,thanks for the tips
Just want to thank you. All four speeds in my blower quit at once. Replaced the resistor and back in action. Gotta have that AC hear in Florida.
Thank you for watching!

So was your ac clutch engaging and nothing from any speeds? That's what mine is doing.
Getting ready to attempt this in my boyfriends 2002 F450. Much different than the replacement in my 04 F150 but I'm confident. Have the part from Advanced Auto. Hope I can get it done for him :D
Update- Success! But- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT trying to chip away at the resistor end of the plug. I cut the wires and replaced the other side as well because the wires and plug came with the resistor. MUCH EASIER. Good luck to all with this. I said some things while trying to do this repair, but within an hour, a newbie got it done. Thanks!
Exactly what I was looking for!!
Thank you for watching! Glad to be of help. Please let us know how the repair turns out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Hello, I watched the video and changed out my resistor, Blower works fine at all speeds and on Auto, My problem is that similar, to my original issue, The cool air is Intermittent, it blows Cold at times, then switches to hot air, I should say Ambient Air, then goes back on to cold air, when it feels like it !!! any suggestions for my next course of action would be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!! Thanks, keep the great content coming !!!!
10 minuetes to swap out a new blower motor. Worked perfectly.

Thank you so much for your video.
I have a 2004 excursion EB 6.0. I am not getting anything from the front fan. My resistor looks different than the one on my f250 but they have the same engine. I am not getting power to blower. How many volts should I be getting at high speed? Also, i can't get the lower bolt of my resistor off without taking Freon cylinder off. Any information would be greatly appreciated and thank you for the videos.
Di-electric silicon grease. Gives good connection with protection and lubrication. Better than axel grease.
Btw this is only for the manual controls not the electronic hvac.
ive got nothing on speed 1, 2nd speed on 2, 2nd speed on 3 and high on 4th.. replaced resistor, so that leaves the switch, right?
Thanks!!! Very helpful.
Dielectric grease when putting back together a good idea or no???
mine does the same thing did the resistor fix work for you?
Honest repair🎉🎉🎉
i have an issue and maybeyou can help me, on my 2001 7.3 excursion the blower motor connector is hot, and the blower still working fine, any idea?, i dont think this is normal
Thank you
Thanks
Never used penetrating oil in a conector buy some DeoxIT this one removes rust, cleans and protects connector terminal for better current flow .
Is there a way to test if the resistor is bad?
I replaced my blower resistor about two or three weeks ago and it worked great. However, It recently stopped working on the lower three settings again and I was wondering if you had any clues on why it isn't working. Thanks for your input.
You may want to check the fuse and also the power going to the blower motor, to see if there's power going to it when the switch is on. You could use an ohm meter or a test light to do this.
Is there an inline power relay for the resistor? I had my resistor and motor replaced now its acting like the resistor is out again. Do you have a link you can post for the schematics? I drive a 2001 F250 W/ Triton V8/ Thanks BTW your vid was very helpful. Keep up the good work sir. @@1AAuto
I replace my on 2005
Ford f350 checked all the fuse still no go you
Used to work only on 4 speed but now nothing i changed blower resistor still no sign you think the motor is burn out?
Anyone notice that the #2 and #3 speeds sound the SAME ? That's my issue. I have off /lo/med/med/ hi. Positions 2 and 3 seem to be the same.. A defective resistor or not?

+kickstartbuddy Thanks! We do not have a schematic. Double check your connections and your fuses that they are intact.
Wow, that sucker was on there! Thanks.
thank you saved me fifty dollars!!!!!

Do you have a video for the third gen f250? Unfortunately my 2011 has this problem but it doesn't look like this under the hood--the battery is located in that area. I'm not finding much on the web trying to find out where the resistor is and how to get at it!
+Matthew Smith We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
One forum(which I believe is correct) says you have to remove the whole dash board to get at the resistor. Hoping you could show an easier way. There is no definitive info about this on the web. Without the factory service manual whats a poor boy to do?!
wish I had watched this one first. destroyed the plug removing it and will now be replacing.
Once I finally got the resistor off. The connector was burnt out. Replaced both of them and still no blow action. Got any other suggestions to troubleshoot?
clintgardner69 I just read online that the resistors can burn out because of high resistance in the blower itself. May need a new blower too. Then I suppose you’d have to make sure the new resistor hasn’t burned out again.
if high is the only speed that does not work. what might that be the blower speed switch?
+J Hetz It would be hard to say without seeing it, but that sounds like it could be a problem with the fan resistor. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
I can do the same procedure on a 1999 ford f150
I have a 2000 F350. My AC stops working randomly and none of my AC/heater settings or fan speeds work when starting my truck, but you can feel refrigerated air easing out of the vent if you stick your hand up next to it. It will stay out until I hit a speed bump going at a decent speed or hammer on the gas from a dead stop...almost black smoking it. Then, it will work normally for a week or two until it stops again. Do you think that is the resistor or the entire blower itself?
+Kendall Thurn Usually when you loose the fan speeds it's an issue with the blower motor resistor. You may also want to inspect the plug end going to the blower motor resistor to see if it is heat damaged, which could cause an intermittent power situation. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts Changed the resistor myself and it’s still acting funny. Connector looks fine to me...think it’s my fan motor then?
+Kendall Thurn You could try to replace the blower motor. Inspect the plug end that goes to it to see if it's heat damaged. We carry new blower motors on our website. Here is a link to them if you need to replace the one that you have. goo.gl/AzvJY4
So I replaced my resistor and even the harness since it was burnt up and melted. Still have the same results, blower fan only works on high. Any other fix for this or what else may be the issue?
+Devin Manning You may want to test the switch too.
test the switch
How do you test the switch?
I know this is old comment but for others since it was burnt the contacts and/or wire harness can be open. You can buy a new connector which has about 6" of wire lead. Use butt connectors and heat shrink for your splices. If not I would suspect the switch. You should be able to see damage to the connector. Wire insulation might be blistered.
my a/c in my 2003 f250 seams to blow weak. i can turn up the fan speed and i hear it working but very little air comes out its like something is restricting the air flow and i cant seam to find the problem. any suggestions short of taking it in?
Hello. I have the same problem in my 2001 excursion 7,3. did you found out what is was?
+Robert Pemelton It sounds like you need a new resistor for your blower motor. Have you tried swapping out the old one?
Check your vacuum system
It’s probably best to just replace both the part and the harness in a kit.
So what is the reason this blower will not turn off with the ignition off? Yes I have replaced the relay but it is still buzzing as well.
+TJ Tew We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Instead of WD40, how bout CRC electrical contact cleaner? And instead of wheel bearing grease how bout dielectric grease? Right item for the right job.
might have been easier to break with some large pliers.
WD40 is a silicone base product . it is an insulator. Use contact cleaner and electrical grease.
My Ac is no blowing some times but I can hear the fan blowing but no feeling any air come in out

Use the right chemicals for the job! Contact cleaner and dielectric grease on plugs and connections. It is like saying any trans fluid will work. Yes it will. For a while it will for a while then...
+inmt42003 Thanks for the tip!
I have '98 econoline F-250 and my heater stops, after five minutes of working while I was driving. And when I turned Off and On the heater/ac switch it's still doesn't work. Please tell me how to fix this issue. It's freakin cold inside a car when I'm drivin with a dang broken of something :
You may want to check the wire plug ends going to the blower motor and to the resistor to see if they have been heated up and damaged. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I didn't necessarily hear a change in 1, 2 or 3
Not the same for the 07 lariat.
Hey leave my short extension outta this video.
I just have to say hallelujah praise GOD!!! Keep doing for the LORD using your special gifts amen!!!! He will save and change you if you trust in him!!! GOD is so good amen hallelujah praise GOD!!! He has what you need amen!!!
Now I have a slightly different issue. When i turn the key on you can hear/feel the blower working strong like it should then after a few seconds its blowing weaker any thoughts anyone?
+John Leniczek Unfortunately we cannot really accurately diagnose that. We would advise you take it to a trustworthy mechanic in your area that can look at it in person
The blower does not go to max. 1999 Lincoln town car. Replaced motor, resistor set, and switch in dash.
