Good morning Ray. I’m sure you were aware that I couldn’t wait for you to post this video. Sorry that back cover is a pain but I knew you were the right person for the job. Can’t wait to see Part 2. Always so amazed at your work. Thank you again for doing such a great job on my GF Lexus. Actually shipping it today to her in Chicago. I’ll see you soon with my Truck! Have a great day!
I always wonder if people get to watch Ray work on their cars. It has to be a good feeling to know that your vehicle is in good hands!
Yes Tim, normally I would be checking up on the mechanic but I was cool as a cucumber knowing Ray was working on it. Great feeling!
Did you opt to do the timing belt at the same time ?
Hi Dean. What sort of fuel consumption do you get from that car 🇬🇧 ?
I like DIY jobs on vehicles.. but holy hell watching Ray do this job was like.. DAMN glad its not me trying to do it at home.. I would totally see paying someone else to fight all that process - Older cars spoiled many a people in how easier they was to "fix" in a garage or front yard/etc lol these newer ones are built like they want it to be as complicated as possible to do what should be simple jobs (like replacing spark plugs) -- just insane the amount of stuff to remove just to do that.. let alone everything else he had to do..
What a pain that back cover is to put back. You make it look so easy and with that wonderful attitude. Good Luck to You!
The amount of intake components covering the rear bank of these Toyota transverse v6 engines is a great selling point for the four cylinder models.
It's not that bad. Being able to watch experienced techs on YT helps. Once you dig in, you have confidence in yourself. I was ready to do another spark plug job a week after I did my first.
Still though...even as someone who works on em...I'd much rather own the 4cyl.
Especially if I want to entertain thr idea of pulling the tranny some day.
I love how you manage to keep your cool even in the most annoying situations (broken clips for example)
I don’t even remember how I found this channel but I love it ❤
Your ta-do-ti-dos are a coping mechanism. Please continue with them. Enjoy the videos with your passion for loving your job.
My back hurts just watching you reach Ray Ray. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Ray. Love your videos. I want to teach you a little secret when it comes to wobbly bits that will change your life. I learned it from our mechanic where I work. If you wrap electrical tape around the wobbly joint, or even better that cloth tape for wire harnesses, it will keep it stiff enough to get on your bolt without it flopping all around, but has enough flex still to do its job. I'd love to see you try it out in a video. Hope you have a great day.
Ray wielding (not welding) his spanners once more, good start to the day!
I love in the opening shot of the odometer the LCD display to the right show the some kind of electrical distribution for the driver of the car and I swear I've seen less complex flow charts on the design of a radar system.
Given today's average driver requires idiot lights and actual verbal notifications that something is wrong with their car I can just see the average soccer mom or soccer dad looking at the display and having their eyes roll back in their heads. Lol
you win the internet for today mate
Good day to you Ray from all your friends in the UK 🇬🇧😊
Good afternoon from Scotland! 👋😄
Good Afternoon from the North West of England
Ray, I end up buying a new tool every time I watch one of your videos 😅
When Ray takes things apart, pipes electrics I think how does he remember where they all go? I’m an electrician and when I disconnect complicated stuff I take a pic. Clever dude.
Thumbs up ray. Your skill and attention to detail is top notch. Keep up the great work
At the dealership, we bend the tube seal tabs with needle nose, then punch them back down vs cutting them off. Removing the seals, we hammer a flat blade under and remove with twisting motion. They come out in 1 piece. Then we use the old seal to hammer the new seal in to prevent damage. I enjoy the videos.
I'm halfway through this and I can't help thinking this is more like a crime sentencing than an enjoyable task. You are amazing Ray! This should motivate me to put my front pads and rotors on my Kia and be thankful. Been putting it off for a few days. Good day to you sir.
They don't give a rip about after-the-sale repairs. Ray has a lot of patience and a great attitude when approaching these complex projects.
So glad I stopped wrenching on vehicles other than my own.
Watching repair videos like this makes my body scream. To much stuff jammed into tight places.
Re: Digital Torque Wrench. Got to be honest but the satisfying ‘click’ of the standard wrench is far more rewarding than the incessant beeping of proximity and the rapid beep of torque achieved. Plus you have to reset it between operations.
I'm in absolute AWE over how much engine knowledge you have. Bravo, my good sir, Bravo.
Seeing all this work makes me truely appreciate my lil 4 cyl Toyota engine. So much easier to work on
Just had my first ASE Certification test today at school. I'm now ASE Certified for brake systems!
Outstanding video. Thank you for the graph visuals and easy to understand explanations. Hadn't heard much about the lumber industry since the prices shot up during the pandemic, so it's great to hear an update.
Great job! It’s nice when the customer is supplying dealer replacement parts, normally they are they best thing to use.
These older Lexus engines seem to have so many little pipes, bolts, nuts and brackets all over the place. I don’t know how you remember where each one of them goes when it’s time to put it all back together. Great work.
Video to help reassembly
The Toyota trik here is ..........
They're all the same & ......
There's lotsa them......
Experience
If I was doing this job I would end up breaking all the connector clips for sure☹️
Try the 1mz-fe from 96, a whole lot of vacuum lines.
I love it every time Ray says "alright" reminds me of quagmire 🤣. Ray quagmire loves fixing cars gigging gigging 🤣 .
You know, Ray, I’ve been following your posts for some time now, and I echo what many viewers have said, marveling about your absence of temper in what I know is a very frustrating trade. I believe that I know part of that puzzle: I think that you must sense that you are never really alone in your work. I think that you know that we are there with you, experiencing your frustrations and your victories. Keep ‘‘em coming, Ray. We enjoy the instruction and the companionship.
Always amazes me how he remembers where all of the fasteners go
never to take away from Ray's expertise but a lot of it is that the wires and hoses have 'memory' in them already.. you just let them fall where they want to as you reassemble, and then match up the fastening clips/bolts/nuts/etc in your memory. BUT I've seen Ray go back to stuff after a day or more in-between.. now that's some super memory right there.
I mean he has it filmed 😉
I think he uses a system which bolts goes where it was a few videos ago (months ago)
Yep!
If it's the same day, remembering where everything goes is not as hard as you'd think.
If it's the next day, same same.
If it's been a week... Now that's when you start to struggle and keep having to take things back off because you put them on in the wrong order.
If it's been a month plus... well...
Then you just have to rely on your knowledge of which bolt is the most likely candidate and more often than not you end up with one or two that are too long to go in the hole.
They just get donated to the bolt gods and the vehicle becomes a performance vehicle... lighter= higher power to weight ratio.
I was holding my breath waiting for plugs to strip out the cylinder head. So glad they didn’t. Thanks
Thank you Ray. You brighten my day with your videos. I feel can at talk with the Mechanic Shop intelligently now.
Wonderful work rainman love 💕 watching the professional way you do stuff, thanks for sharing your day. Regards from Australia.
Don't worry Ray, we're always interested in what you say.
We knew you like to rhyme, cause you do it all the time.
I never thought when I was a technician back in the day that there would be celebrity technicians with their own show and fans 🤔 👍🏻
Reach-around @ 9:00, great wobbly bits exhibition @ 17:25, taint at 19:12, and lots of nuts and screws. No one makes it rain like Ray.
Ray you will Never Run Out of Space Cause it's So Vast!!!; )
AMAZING- TRUE PROFESSIONAL WHO ENJOYS HIS WORK.
SO NICE TO SEE IN TODAY'S TIMES... THANK YOU FOR SHARING
thanks, ray, for all the hard work you do entertaining us every day, i love your videos have been watching you since the beginning and will watch you forever
Throughout all eternity? That’s a commitment.
@@deeeyewhy5949 well yes I'm eternally grateful after all 😁
Hello, Ray. Love the intro in this vid for one thing but also, I wanted to say thank you for a lot of not only all the mechanical tips that you give in each of your videos, but also all of the examples of professionalism that you display in your videos. They inspire me to do the same in my work. Don't forget to have a great day!
Ray thank you for all the hard work you do to bring us these video's everyday. 😍🔥
I love that the vehicle owner arrived prepared.
That Lexus looks super clean for 185,000 miles!!
Usually how it goes
@@mysticgaming1730 No, I have saw Lexus with far fewer miles that are in much worse shape. Someone took care of this one.
@@stephenhood2948 no doubt someone took real good care of this one.
Part 1 was good look forward to part 2 gotta love when the engine is turned sideways makes everything just a wee bit harder @Rainman Ray's Repairs
It’s called Transverse when the engine is sideways
Ray loves his auto maintenance therapy as do his viewers
You say "I like this wrench" about the same time I was saying "wow, that torque wrench sucks.". Clicks work just fine, and are more clear than all the beeping and faster beeps.
It is fascinating seeing how putting the engine into its bay when building the car, really puts a bind in getting to the various parts of the machine to repair it. Great video. Thank you.
These engines are essentially rolled backwards to make room for the intake plenum. The front three cylinders go up and down and the rear three cylinders go back and forth. I have one and working in the back is a nightmare.
This has been a neat video, it's nice to see all the different things you had to overcome and adjust to.
I like the way you show broken connectors, it really highlights the fact it isn't your fault.
The only way that I can see how Ray, or anyone else, can remember how this all goes back together is to watch his video in reverse. The real miracle is that there are no parts left over.
in the film 'Doc Hollywood' the local mechanics are repairing his crashed vintage Porsche, and taking their sweet time on it. The first time it's finished he goes to see it and the mechanics say 'There are a few nuts and bolts left over, but don't worry, there always are...'
Excellent, as always. I was having a chat with a neighbor about shops here in town and who the go-to guys are and who are the crooks. Ray is one of the stars here, with a few other shops. If you live somewhere long enough you learn these things. Talk to the locals if you're new. Reputation speaks volumes.
Totally enjoyed this video Ray and you have a great day!!!
I am doing the rear valve cover on my 00 Rx300 this weekend. This helps a lot.
Hi Ray! I'm looking forward to pt 2. Gosh those spark plug seals are a real pain. Great work as always. Cheers!
Thanks for taking us along on a Hybrid job.
I bought a couple of those little mini pry bars. Those are great. I used to carry a slotted head screwdriver but these work a lot better.
seeing what you have to first remove to fix a simple rocker leak really would put me off owing such a car (but we don’t know this when we buy!) wonder what your labour (& contingency) is worth on this job. i admire your stubborn resilience to tackle such a job. my worry would be: 1) causing secondary damage to components & 2) forgetting assembly sequence, both of which could greatly extend overhead time. but you are quite undaunted. your advantage is you have every tool imaginable (love the trusty Milwaukee driver!) & always have right one on hand at right time. and you work so fast! amazing learning experience from one who will prob never do such a job himself (thank god).
thanks again for such a professional production & always looking forward to nxt video. Interrupting CZcams ads are annoying, but watching experience makes up.
There are no ads when watching through the internet browser instead of the YT app.
When I Wake up every morning! I watch ray video first thing
Dude, love your work and love your channel 👍🏽
Thank goodness the plug tube seals on my 97 isuzu 3.2 V6 aren't that bad, WOW! Although my tube seals fail more often I am sure. This will be the third time I have had to replace them and it's a real pain in the aZZ to do. Damn, putting the back valve cover gasket on...seriously difficult for you... sorry man. Thanks so much for the video Ray... your the man!!!
Great work and a lot of patience
Gotta say I feel like I'm watching myself when I watch you Ray. You even say the terminology I do which is so cool its creepy! Coping mechanism for the phone is a definite result of mechanical stress I do heavily concur sir! Keep the Spanish references up too they're awesome! With love from Chicago!
Finally I found you! Thanks for sharing
Just completed the same procedure on a Toyota Avalon 3.5 liter engine. Removal of the cowling/wiper motor box was necessary to access those rear valve cover bolts. Adds a little more time, but saves the trouble with removing/reinstalling those spark plugs. Spent about an hour cleaning off baked on oil/grease.
Always enjoy your videos
Great video Ray
I liked. Always good content from Ray.
Listening to Ray say debris as Deb-riss unlocked old Chris Farley moment in my head where him and David Spade were saying roads different ways because of them being stoned.
Kudos to your workmanship!
Love the videos Ray can't wait to see the next one
I really enjoy your content thank you for that
Never heard of a easy out socket. The day wasn't a total loss I learned something.
another great video,thankyou Ray,,👍👌
Glad to see I am not the only one that has trouble with the spark plug seals on the older Toyota.
Learned so many tricks just watching for a few weeks now. 😅 Bells on! 😄
I never in my life imagined battery operated ratchets. Sometime in the 80s I bought an air operated Husky ratchet. The hose was just too much trouble.
About a year ago, I bought a Ridgid impact and drill set. After watching Ray, I ordered the socket adapters from Amazon. Made some wheel chair work go rapidly. Don't tell me anti-tippers and locking attendent brakes can''t be fitted to theis wheelchair. They can, and with parts left over.🤣 See if anyone gets the joke or at least understands it.
morning Ray
i love your work Ethics and your attitude
Morning Ray - Watching from BC, Canada
:)
They're listening some really good music there. I like it.
The phone ringing HAS become part of your personality, and I'm glad. It's a nice part, embrace it.
Wow, had no idea how much work is needed for a proper reseal of the spark/coils and valve cover gaskets. Not looking forward to paying for that in the next couple years on my Lexus RX350. But cool I've seen a lot of the work now...sure the hybrid might have some extra stuff or less stuff depending...but the job is similar. Plus it's fun to learn/watch/listen to your cool repairs!
Very similar process for the 2002 rx300 with a metal intake, doing the knock sensors in the valley of the engine without removing the cowl sucks (specifically the intake support bracket on pas side)
9:06 - "The reach around treatment" 😆
When it comes to old and brittle plastic connectors, use a tiny micro-torch on the lowest setting at a distance to heat them up first, DC the electrical connector, and then bend the tab back into place before it cools. Doing this will also help to soften the plastic enough to ensure they don't break during reassembly. I don't know if anyone else does this, but is something I came up with on my own back in the day and have always used since.
Dang that's a good idea, even just a lil with a heat gun makes interior plastics less brittle so it makes total sense to try that
Great idea. I had never thought of that.
This is just reminding me that I still have to perform the spark plug service on my 17 Santa Fe and I am dreading doing the service since the upper intake assembly
Great songs playing in the background 👌 😁
Ray always makes something that looks hopeless, look doable. Good video!
Nice work
Can you use a little bit of spray tack to set those VC gaskets
U always get the best jobs ray
Nice work!!!
Great Job , Good Morning from UK
That’s an extreme amount of work to access the back of that motor. I’d never trust most dealers to do that on my vehicle. You I’d trust! Another excellent video, Thank you. For what it’s worth, that external ringer is always irritating as all hell in that shop. 😂
"Do-de-do-de-do" - highlight of any Rainman Ray video.😂
Dark Storm, you are número 1, congratulations. Morning to you!
Always love the part two's
Hey ray, brother I miss you shooting your super long videos in HDR please continue to shoot all your videos in HDR they look so beautiful and it’s very much enjoyable when shot in HDR,Keep the good work up
GJ Ray, you Da Man!
Yep! I was doing the cursing for you on those plug seals. When you want it all to go smooth, poop happens.
Very good stuff 🤠
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO
Debris be blowin' cause da hurricane be comin'!
Love your content I've never done that with an ev either
It’s great that you can supply your garage with your own parts could never do that over here garages to busy hiking up the price (UK
