In a very similar situation and will probably do the same thing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Sounds like fun, I really enjoyed framing in this ceiling. Framing is my favorite! Happy to hear the video inspired you.
I’m going to be doing the same thing in the near future. Thanks for the video.
Hi, I have the same design and issue for the garage.
The garage door opener caused the ceiling joists to be pushed up about 4 inches and now I have an uneven ceiling for me to finish with drywall. And due to this, now I have a barn still interior for me to drywall.
If I don’t use 20ft 2x6 can I add 2x4 parallel to the already 2x6 ceiling joists? I would only be adding like 4. But I am trying to find a way to avoid buying 20ft anything for 4 ceiling joists.
Trying to do this to my garage, how much all this cost ? Joists, drywall wall insulation and fan ?
John - I'm trying to do something very similar in my garage but I'm running up against the issue that 2x6s don't support a 20' span (my roof rafters are 24" apart). I also don't have the room above my top plates to fit them. Any advice? How are you getting around the span limitation? I'm in a similar area to you - Long Beach, CA.
Hi, you are asking a loaded question witch creates more questions. Here is what i did! After i installed 18' 2x6's i also blocked them all down the center of ceiling and then i added webbing (1x4) vertical supports connecting 2x6's to the existing roof rafters. This stiffened up the ceiling joists nicely.
@nicklocking I’m currently doing this project as well and my garage measurements are 20X25 so yes you are correct to California framing code it needs to be 2X8 after 18’span if your garage is 18 or smaller then 2x6 shouldn’t be In issue
How did you make the template?
I used a speed square on the existing rafters and then i took a 2' section of 2x6 and scribed it against the rafters. Simple to do when you have an existing structure.
Now this is where I should have a CZcams channel and do reaction videos. I give this video a 👍👍 2 thumbs up. I understand the working alone mindset but do not fuck up and land on your back and skull.
Thank you ladies man 44242
How did you cut your legs?.
Great video btw
Thank you, By legs are you referring to the 1x4 webbing connecting the rafters to the joists?
Yes
@@renatochiarella4750 I measured and cut the webbing (legs) by taking the 90 degree end of 1x4 and butting it against the roof sheathing in the spot i chose. Then i just took a pencil and scribed the ceiling joist end. Then just nailed it to rafters and ceiling joist.
Pfff...duuuh. of course!.
Thank you my man!!
John you are so cute! Next time take your shirt off, please. 😇 you should make a video to show your exercise routine and how you stay in such amazing shape. Cheers!
Oh no you do not want my shirt off, my boobs sag now a days!🤣
@@Therealhomeinspectionauthority omg, no you don’t! You are hotter now than you’ve ever been. Just loved your chest hair in younger days. Especially with the cute smile. Congrats on your business success, love the channel!!!
