Ever put those foam vents in a trailer with a metal roof?
Same dinky toys r us trusses..
And i have insulation right against the metal roof and no vents..just a block inbetween the trusses at the end over the wall..
And im adding 2x6s like you so we can put up drywall..but i cant figure out how to add venting and keep the insulation against the metal so it doesnt rain condensation drops in my attic..
Any experience with that?
Any info would help tons
I love that you do things properly and donât cut corners! Thank you for your vlogs God bless you đ
I think wood smiles at you because it's going to be so happy and pretty when you are done trimming him to perfection. We need so many more men like you. Ashley you are truly blessed with such a clever husband. Just be careful not to hurt yourself.
Man, Doug - you're not letting any grass grow under your feet! Work work work. You guys are amazing!
You are such a perfectionist Doug. Personally, I love it. That sounded like Belle practising her new instrument in the background!
Yep, she has been loving practicing her ocarina and she's doing great.
I think you're doing a fine job. Too many of those "I would do this" comments
You do great work. My brother-in-law has pretty much rebuilt the entire mobile home he and my sister live in. He even added an enclosed heated porch big enough for the laundry and the big freezer. It's also nice to store heavy winter clothing and hunting clothes. They live in an old mobile home that was supposedly the best of the best, but he too discovered the shell was built poorly. Also the manufacturer cut plumbing holes big enough to be super highways for rodents. Thate all been fixed. Thanks to him, a great carpenter.
Love hearing your daughter play the background music
Aaaaaand , another Master Class by Doug !!! I love watching you work . You are crazy smart !đ€
The purpose of those vents are to prevent the insulation from blocking the soffit vents. The soffit vents allow airflow through the attic. In the summer, it cools the attic, thus keeping the trailer cooler, and in the winter, it keeps the attic space (unconditioned space) cold, so that the snow on the roof doesn't melt from underneath (because the water will flow down, and when it hits the overhang, it freezes, causing an ice dam. The ice dam would then prevent more water from flowing off of the roof, and standing water on the roof will eventually cause leaks.
I was subbed to many homesteading channels, but have unsubbed to most. Because they were no longer âreal peopleâ. You guys are, without a doubt, my favorite Homesteading channel. Please keep being you â€ïž. Basic is what I like
We appreciate that.
I will agree with you some have stopped working, have gone to click bait and tons and tons of ads some are ok but 5/9 is a bit much just makes me find them as unreal and untrue.
It will be really interesting to compare utility costs in a year.
Very smart on the plywood floor. Unfortunately I didnt think of that when doing some remodeling on different rooms in my house and I have the exact problem you are going to avoid.
Ashley is so lucky to have a husband that has knowledge and does this stuff for her. My husband dont help me do anything. His excuse is he don't know how. So I have to do it myself. I don't know how either I just go take a CZcams lesson and try.
Beatrice Bee... I made the same mistake. Married someone who didn't want to do these things. I had to figure it out, but it made me stronger and later, I flipped a few houses. Go figure how life gives us lemons, but we make lemon aide. lol
Ladies , well done , I would say that you both unfortunately have husbands , with cant do it , wont even attempt to try it syndrome . Other men would at least , try , to make some kind of effort . Its the only way to learn guys . Just saying .
Learned what a crown is and how to calculate pitch. You really have a way of taking something that seems complicated, breaking it down, and making it clear and simple. Thank you.
Thank you too :)
Kathy Hegert
Genius, teacher and workhorse all rolled into one! These two blow me away! So young too! Amazing!
Doug! That looks great. That house will be solid and more energy efficient. I LOVE watching you work. Good job as usual.
HGTV on OITC!!!
Your channel is every bit if not more interesting than any show on HGTV
Thank you!
Agreed!!! And they are actually nice, REAL, down to earth people who regular folks like most of us can relate to. They also keep realistic budgets. I love this channel.
I agree, I love watching them work!
Excellent job! Going to be fun watching the whole job!âïž
I like how you always do your work the best way possible making sure it is done right.
You did an awesome job figuring up ur angle for your pitch, i would of probably never figured that out as clean as you did before a buddy introduced me to an "angle finder" you can pick them up very cheap "$5" at all building materials provider and helps a ton and makes life super easy finding angles and transferring to multiple joists like you did. Hope this helps in the future
That looks great, Doug! I cannot wait to see the drywall go up and you and Ashley have your own room to yourselves. What a fantastic job so far. I could hear Belle practicing with her Ocarina in the background. :) Say hello to Maverick. Ashley, you must be totally psyched about the master bedroom coming together so quickly and so very nicely. Take care, little family.
You sir, are a craftsman. We am so enjoying watching your old videos when we get a minute or two (we have a farm and are extra busy right now) and will be so sad when we get all caught up.
There's always more coming :)
@@diyfferent yes but then we have to waitđą. But really, thank you for taking the time to teach and share.
This house is going to be a home real soon. Better than it was originally. Blessings đŠđș
Iâm amazed at how knowledgeable you are and so impressed with your teaching skills. You make it seem like anyone could do it because you are so detailed in your instruction. Love to watch your how-to videos.
I am impressed by your knowledge and carpentry skills, Doug.
You are helping me so much. After watching you accomplish so many projects I have been doing a lot of "pending" jobs at my place and it's getting cleaned up nicely. I am about to go and sort out tools and hardware...nails, screws, etc. If I know what I've got I won't double-buy...who knew the laptop could get my enthusiasm going again. I'm a senior. All that praying paid off
Awesome job Doug Be very proud of the work you have done !
Good job and the explanations are excellent
A novice will be able to understand and follow
Love what you do you will get to the nice and simple life
Finally! A use for all that high school geometry!
Thank you . You are an EXCELLANT TEACHER. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY..
CHOW FROM MICHIGAN ALSO.
Hi :) Thanks
Your narrating is so easy to listen to and to learn from. Always learning something from every video! I cant wait for warmer weather to really see what your going to do with the farm and house! God bless you and your family! #livingthedream
Doug you have a talent for BUILDING or carpentry. What a gift from GOD this is have you & Ashley ever thought about starting your own business. I'm amazed how easy you teach us about each step.. GOD'S BLESSINGS & SAFETY ALWAYS.
You are so precise. I could watch you work all day. I wish I could clone you! đ€Ł
IKR?! Do you have an older brother??? lol
Yeah I was heartbroken when they moved to Michigan đ I was hoping I could hire him sometime. They're too far away now.
Excellent and thorough work, I love seeing a plan come together seamlessly what I hate is when the "video's" come to an end. :) Have an excellent Sunday you guy's & please say hello to Bo and Tundra.
That was an excellent video. I loved the fact that you showed the details of your job.
That is to say !- You told us what the situation/concern was. 2-You then told us your solution. 3-You showed the measurements on the tape measure and on the square. We got to see your your "Thought process" and your "How too" but did not have to watch all the sawing and cutting. I told my husband that your trailer will be built better that some houses. May I ask are you a carpenter by trade or something else? It is clear that you are smart and think logically about every decision before you make it.The part about the extra wall.... then the old wall coming down is just Brilliant. Another job very well done. Many continued blessings to y'all
We just learn as we go using the gifts that we have. Thanks!
đI love these videos. Doug is a great teacher!đâ€ïžđ
You are doing a great job. You guys gather the information that you need to learn how to do a project and that's awesome. Can't wait to see the final results.
This is so interesting and exciting for a city mouse like me! I love your channel.
Beautiful work, Doug.
Thank you
Doug, you always seem to amase me with your work ethic and skills!! Did you ever work in construction?? Is your home a trailer or modular(pre-fab)? Missed Ashley in this video!! The two of you work so well together. I'm impressed with Ashley also, a woman not afraid to get her hands dirty!! You go girl!!! Can't wait to see your next video!! _Gimpy_ (Gimpy is my new nickname, as I slipped and fell on black ice in Nov 2018. Broke my hip and femur. Had a titanium rod placed inside my femur. I now have to use a cane to walk, and have a significant limp, hence, the nickname "Gimpy"!!!!
Sorry to hear about your fall. The home was brought in on a metal chassis so I would say a double wide. I have personal experience in construction, but not so much formal.
I learn something ever time I watch you guys. AWESOME. God Bless
I can hear Belle playing her ocarina!! Love it!
She's loving it! We've been practicing every day :)
Haha I kept stopping the tape trying to figure out what the nose was.. My dogs kept barking at it..
Itâs getting quite exciting now that you start to work on the inside of your home. I love watching, keep up the good work, best wishes to you both from đŹđ§
Thanks!
Thank you for patiently showing us each detail. This is what i love most about you, you dont just throw it up and say its done. You teach people how you get from a to b. Thank you
For SURE!
I like how you take the time to do an excellent job even if it requires extra work and money. Seems like many people only want to slap up something that looks pretty on the outside to make a sale. Itâs been fun watching you remodel your homes. Looking forward to your next video.
Love how detail-oriented you are. Super job!!
Its so good to see young people using their head. Now your have something that will last.
GREAT job, Doug!
I sold & installed flooring for the majority of my life. I installed carpet, vinyl, laminate countertops, but my specialty was tile. My favorite grout to clean after it's been installed is Laticrete Spectralock, & it's not as difficult to install as some people would have you believe. I'm 5'2 & weigh 128 lb, but I did have powerful rotator cuff muscles for a woman, according to the masseuse who told me so. You never have to seal it & I had white grout for 16 years & 4 people took a shower in it almost every day for those 16 years & it was still white. If I would have known about the Schluter Shower System in '96 It would have lasted a lifetime. I have had many a DIY customer come back time after time for information. I am very familiar with the Schluter Tile Systems. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Also, the videos that are on Schluters Website is very informative. Anything thing you want to know that I can assist you with just ask, I enjoy your videos I would love to help if I can.
Thank you for the info and the help :)
What did you use to clean it? My grout in my kitchen is discolored and I canât find anything to clean it short of acid which I am afraid will get on my appliances....
@@sherrysearcy1409 I used Epoxy Grout, to begin with, which is non-porous so no grime can get into it begin with. More than likely your original grout was regular sanded grout which is very porous and requires resealing once the sealer stops beading water, the only way I have found to successfully revive the grout is Aqua Mix Grout Colorant, it's an epoxy paint that coats & colors the grout & it looks great afterward. The grout will clean much easier and is available online. It costs around $30 to $35 & worth it. My Customers loved it.
It will make dry walling so much faster, not to mention more convenient .
Great Job Doug! remember when hanging the rock to stagger the seams with full sheets. meaning> avoid butting 4 corners together.
Thanks for sharing , I learned a lot. I heard Belle practicing, I think! Made me smile
Yep, she is loving her new ocarina.
Wow, so much involved, so thorough a remodel. That house is going to be awesome!
Outstanding work and reasoning. Congrats, Doug and Ashley. Because of your knowledge and work ethics, you are basically building a custom home that will last forever and be very energy efficient in such a cold climate. Blessings.
Grt math skills there, figuring your angles old school. Inprovision is a necessary part of diy. Looking forward to the next step.
Such fun to watch, happy you share it all !đ
This may be a little late.... I use to be a closet designer and just wanted to add that when building out your closet that you need a minimum of 24 inches for adequate hanging space.
Love your channel and your children are adorable. I was very impressed with all the video shots in the car with how well behaved the children sit while you guys talked.
You guys could really have your own HGTV show.
This would be the perfect time to run extra wiring for a separate ceiling fan switch and recessed lighting. You also might want to think about home network wiring and even wiring for a wall mounted tv. You may not have a need or want it now, but later its there if you do, also an added value if you decide to sell the property in the future.
I hope I can find a contractor even half as good as you when we finally build/remodel our house.
Its going to be beautiful guys!!!!
WOW Doug I can tell your a carpenter! Awesome đ job! Can't wait to see the finished product đ. I wish my husband was handy like you, Ashley is a a lucky lady. đ My son's though are like you and love to build, they're picky too about their work. Everyone needs a Great handy man/ carpenter and auto mechanic in the family these days. Saves tons of money! LOL
You are teaching me all kinds of construction knowledge!
Loads of info!! Work ethic on point!! Mad math skills wow.!
Love seeing it come together..
I was wondering what you were going to do with the smaller boards and you even addressed that...đ.đđđđ..God Bless your Familyâ
Any day i which I learn something totally ne is wonderful. You made my day with your approach to upgrading framing for your ceiling.
Fairly new to your channel but I'm loving it. I always look forward to your next video. I love that your trying to do it right since so many people have an attitude that mobile homes aren't worth fixing the right way because they think they won't get it back out of the property. It's also about making it right for your family while you all are living in it and when/if you have to move on later, you can know you did your best and be proud that it's a solid house. Good job. God bless your efforts, you & family and animals.
Thank you, that is exactly how we see it.
Good job...my goodness, this re-do is looking great...lots of info, thanks for showing...hugs from Kennebunk Maine
Absolutely love this mobile home remodel series! I am glad I subscribed, keep it up!
Believe it or not I discover Rafter vents through this video.. we don't use Rafter Vents in the Philippines. Our building codes are not as strict. and Filipinos always go for cheaper solutions.. watched your 3 recent videos and then I realize I should start on home renovation #1 and now I'm here. Glad I did I'am learning so much! Thank you! đ
Brilliant with figuring out the angles!! You always do your homework and put a lot of thought into your projects. Like the little work platform thing. Larry's oldest daughter bought us a folding Gorilla platform last year for Christmas and we have found it extremely handy for our basement project in process and we use it for a portable table for the miter saw when doing outdoor projects.
Good stuff Doug....everyday is a day closer
We are re-doing a trailer house. I am learning from you. Dang you sure know what you're doing. Thank you for taking the time to document and show us.
I'm in awe!! Lots to know ..I sure couldn't grasp it all, but it sure works!! You're work is exceptional!
Thank you :)
You're doing a great job! Something you can be proud of forever!
Very proud of you. Your skills impress me. How did you learn all of that?
A little FYI here....a friend of ours ( who built our home we still live in, 40 years ago) was just diagnosed with lung cancer. He never smoked, his specialist in Seattle said it was from inhaling all the particles during his years of construction.
I know masks are hard to wear but something to consider.
I'm just in awe of how you get into this. Did you do construction before becoming a Homesteader? Or are you just winging this? Goodness, I can't imagine all of this having to be in my brain. Great job!
So informative and not boring loving to see the end product, we lived in a mobile home for three years, I love the way you explain all the proâs and conâs you definitely have a wealth of knowledge.
đđ. Glad to see plywood roof decking. Your house is better built than people think. They need to research the history of the manufactured home industry and regulations. There havenât been âtrailersâ manufactured in over 40 years when the US Congress passed the Mobile Home Safety and Construction Act in 1976. One of the easiest ways to differentiate is, crank out windows were banned from new construction when the 1976 Act was passed due to fire hazards. In 1980, more safety and construction regulations went into effect and the name âmobile homeâ was eliminated and replaced with âmanufactured homeâ.
By the time you are done with this upgrade and remodel project your house will be every bit as sturdy, maybe more so than any site built home. Youâre doing a WONDERFUL job!!!! Thank you for sharing your journey đ
Looking good! Thanks for sharing!đ
Great job . Like how you think things through first and how you have a plan. Things are coming along very well. S!owly but surely it's all coming together. You guys are hard working people.đ
You are extremely awesome, thanks for all the info you definitely taught me quite a bit today. Another great video đ Be blessed
So excited to see the room finished. seems like you just get into it and the videos over, man good job
You do quality work! Have a blessed day! đđđđ
Tile the whole house. Is very clean and durable. So easy to sweep and mop.
Looking good guys!
Thank you!
Good job. Suggeestion for the rest of the house. You should also glue the new joist to the old when sistering them. The old ones are so flimsy that they may split under any stress. This will also add additional support to the new ones, not that it is needed.
Gosh, I am learning so much about how to do home repairs and building properly. I am so excited for you and Ashley. Keep up the excellent work.
Iâm learning eventhough I may never have to do it myself knowledge is always a good thing. Enjoying the thought process. Thank you for always sharing!
Nice rebuild, go Doug, we love watching you work! Ha,ha !
yes he is patient and so his remodel will be fantastic!
Smart and talented young man ...lucky wife
Hi Doug! Great video so enjoyed this. You are a great teacher also. I am always waiting for the next video. Hi Ashley Belle and Maverick miss you all!!â€Oh yes the animals also! đ Enjoy your Sunday! â€
Yes, I was thinking that he is so patient with us.đ
This is a great video. I have an older mobile home that I use the living and kitchen area for my taxidermy shop, the small center bedroom for storage. It haa a full bath and 10 x 12 master bedroom. This is for visitors. A tree went through the storage room. Laid over 90 feet tall . I had to rebuild the floor, took out what was left of outside walls and HaI'm as well. I threw a tarp over it. Have to rebuild walls frame up roof and ceiling. Tour video has given me some great ideas!!Ok I had to come back in here and correct typos!!!
love the solid concept for the home
Reminds me of growing up and all the renovations. Glad to see this going so well. God bless you all.
I am following your home repair to your mobile home. I live in NJ in a 1975 mobile home with a sagging ceiling...Thank You so much for all this info & step by step instructions!!!
I am almost overwhelmed with how much I learned in this single video. Ur a great teacher. Love love love watching u guys.
I enjoyed watching and listening. I learned a lot. So much to think about to get things right. Good problem solving skills too. Thanks for sharing.
Always so good to see how you are doing things, my ex husband is a contractor by trade, and I helped him many times building houses, so when you were talking about the crown on the wood, I was like 'hey, I understand what he is talking about' lol. You are just so clever in your knowledge of building, and I am fascinated to watch your remodel. I know when you are finished it will be such a beautiful home for your family, thank you for sharing it is always fun to see the progress and I can't wait to see your next video. Bye for now.
You're like an encyclopedia ... full of knowledge. I always forward your diy videos onto my hubby. Thanks so much for sharing such great info with us. đ
Great job, this is about the same way we did ours. Thanks for spending the time sharing:)
Great job you're doing Doug:) I'm lovin each video, can't wait for the next one! Going to be a beautiful home when you're done. Wishing you and family a blessed and wonderful evening.
