Tech support has you try simple things.
Tech calls for a tow.
Tow takes key from customer.
Tow submits key and tow ticket info sheet
At key drop after hours.
Then service manager or advisor writes a repair.
If tech requested a repair it would not be written till the vehicle was actually present. Til then it's a scheduled appt.
If it no shows???
That means no key drop with tow sheet or tickee.
It is ALL bECAUSE of the TOW.
That tow guy still has your key.
What is his story?
The vid ended without telling us.
We saw the car drive to the ramp truck.
A month or more from now?
Who will have a key to your Tesla?
He has a family, not a single guy. Pretty sure his other car is used by his wife, and or has to be used for their kids.

Happened to me, ordered a replacement charger port on eBay and replaced it myself. Unfortunately I had to wait a couple of days for an update to become available, but everything worked after that. The part on eBay cost around $100
Lesson: Always check with the service department and confirm they've received delivery when you have a car towed in for repairs! The tow truck driver should let you know when the car will be dropped off.
Just Bend the charger a little,, trust me it works with my iPhone charger all the time

The problem is as technology gets more and more advanced we tend to see more issues only certain dealerships can fix. Which means big money on the consumer end. Thankfully yours was still under warranty but I would've asked them what the total bill was if you weren't.
Tow truck drivers have done this twice to me before. Luckily I’ve recovered myself giving them the key and vehicle for prof.

@@Closeoutracer You are right; that's a massive problem. A car costs much more than an iPhone. Rich from Rich Rebuilds talked about it a lot. Hopefully, Tesla will change their stance on repairs before 2020, when the number of out-of-warranty Teslas will increase dramatically. I say 2020 because the Model S came out in 2012 and typically has an 8-year warranty.
@@wecsam Comprehensive warranty is only 4 years .. 8 on battery n powertrain. It's not "Tesla's stance" that's the problem .. No free market service centers means you pay Tesla's price whatever that is.

I anticipate some people defending Tesla by saying that their mobile repair service is better than having to take the car to a shop, but I don't see why third parties couldn't do mobile repairs as well.

I'm curious as to how much a repair like that would have set you back had the car been off warranty. Judging from how quickly the repair center was to look up if your car was under warranty or not, I'm guessing it would have been a prohibitively expensive repair job.
Lesson learned, call the next day to check in and make sure they know that your car is there and what their schedule to fix it is. Always assume there will be screwups.

I bought my plug-in hybrid to avoid this type of problem, I also have seen model X can’t close its rear doors many times in LA. I feel in a few more years, the electric car designs in general will be perfected that issues like this won’t arise anymore.

Working for a tow Company in St Louis Missouri that is a Tesla Service Provider, when I tow a Tesla to the service center I fill out the night drop envelope in full and put the key and Invoice in the night drop box. That is the proper way a operator is supposed to drop a vehicle at any shop .

I took delivery of my MX on Thursday, brought it home and couldn't open the door the next morning. Tesla towed it back to where we picked it up, almost 3 hours away. It's Monday now and still no word from Tesla as to what is wrong with my car.
I have the same issues with my Tesla s but it not covered under the warranty

I wonder if Tesla changed the key code so that key is either blacklisted or was made incompatible with the Tesla
princess slinky Yes. I’m sure they deleted that particular key from the vehicle’s memory. Tesla can run what’s called Key Diagnostics and look at every key that has been paired to the Model X and then see which one was last active based off the ping(which would be the one the tow truck driver used to tow the vehicle with).

I noticed in your previous video that you used portable battery pack to try to charge your tesla, could this be the reason the charge port was damaged? using an irregular charging unit, u only got 1 mile from hours of charging, maybe this caused the charge failure? would you agree?
Dude as a service manager, keys get stuck in the night drop boxes all the time! Sometimes you have to take the box apart to get them!

Yes you CAN put it on the failure to do the key drop.

But when you call for tech on the phone, you are not talking to the dealer service.
It's locally owned.
If tech says tow it there and notifies the service dept.
There's no auth from the cars owner to write it till they see the car, the tow sheet, and can call you.
Where's the key?
They call the tow, based on the tow sheet in the night drop. Without those things , it was on the sched. But can't do anything without your written and verbal auth.

What if your Tesla charge port won't open? Most of the charge port doors are motorized (you can open them from the touchscreen, fob, and the charge door); however, if it freezes and won't open, you can use your key to open the charge port while simultaneously apply minimal pressure to the hinge side of the port door.
