In the sea there stands a tower,

This style of music - a typical Medieval European singing style but with typical Arab-style rhythms - was probably quite common in the Middle Ages in Spain and Portugal after the Moors conquered much of the Iberian Peninsula but before the Spanish Inquisition changed everything.
