Rip all the mothers who died at the start of the movie so the main character could have trauma 🙏
Amen 😂
Good point!
like Bambis mom? :(
All I can picture are Disney movies lol
For real
Carrie's mother was beyond traumatizing. It made Carrie so much more sympathetic.
The other mother in Coraline would’ve been in the stay away from me tier 😭 she manipulated, murdered & kept these children’s souls. She is irredeemable
I came to the comment section for this 🥹
The whole "she wants something to love, or maybe just something to eat" puts her straight in the stay away category tbh
Didn't she technically groom coraline? I'd definitely put her in the lowest tier
@@petscopkid yeah I think she love bombed her, big ass NO NO lol
I don’t think the other mother was actually a mother to begin with, she was a the bedlam, a malevolent being who lured children, snatches them and eats them
Toni Collette in Hereditary will forever remain the most iconic mother in Horror movies simply for her "I AM YOUR MOTHER!" scene
We all are her children ❤️
Every scene she did was iconic. Biggest award snub i’ve ever seen in my life.
Toni Collette really gave one of the best performances in a horror movie with just that one scene and the academy still snubbed her smh
that's still one of the scariest moments in the movie for me. if I was on the other side of that table, I would have withered up and passed away 😅
I felt terrible that she just lost that battle. She was genuinely decent in a foul situation.
I was so shocked you didn't include Jess from Triangle! For me personally, she goes straight in Call CPS. Loving your child doesn't justify abusing them.
YES omg
Rachel (from The Ring) is the mom who you can stay up late with hanging out doing investigative research on some unknown mystery, but then at like 11pm you look over at her like “…wait, don’t you have-“ and then she sprints out of the door because she just remembered she has a kid🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha
Can you imagine a sitcom with all the horror moms living on the same block. Just, you know, Wendy Torrance saying "good morning" to Mama who is floating around with her baby stroller, waving 'hi' to the mother from Barbarian and Ellie just vomiting blood all over her freshly baked cookies to welcome Red into the neighborhood.
You just described Desperate Housewives
This idea for a ranking is SO iconic I love love love this!!! Could you do one for fathers as well? There are sooo many gaslighting and absent fathers in horror movies...
Yes! she could bring her husband in for that one! Get his insight😂
@@tygrizzly4405 LOVE the idea 🤩
The father in Quiet Place=goat
finney and gwens dad in the black phone immediately comes to mind
Graham Hess from Signs is such an interesting one. Oh I'd love this!
one of my all time fav horror moms is ginger and brigitte's mom in ginger snaps! pamela was ready to kill her husband and leave town in order to start fresh with her daughters, accepted them for being different and never gave up on them. we stan pamela fitzgerald !!
I’m surprised you didn’t include Norma Bates! In stitches over the inclusion of The Mother from Barbarian. 😂 Definitely an interesting Mom Group
You talking about "the mother" from barbarian was hilarious😂. I felt bad for her too...but, dang shes scary.
it was
not even a woman :P
Man, that one was a surprise. I had no idea what to expect from that movie and it delivered.
Additions: Rosemary (Rosemary’s Baby), Chris (The Exorcist), Diane (Poltergeist), Vera (Dead Alive), Katherine (The Omen), Laura (The Orphanage), Katherine (The Witch), and Ripley (mother figure, Aliens).
Don't forget Kayako Saeki (Ju-On)
Norma from Bates Motel is a little controversial, but I love her 😭
👀
Hahaha whoa
Vera was amazing in that role!!!
Chris MacNeil is an underrated mom for me! The fact that she’s a single mother and a movie star and doesn’t seem to be completely neglecting her daughter is just something weirdly wholesome out of that movie.
My favorite mom: Evelyn from A Quiet Place 1 & 2.
She balances out nurturing with kicking butt.
I wished A Quiet Place 2 would've featured her more as *THE* main character.
Best performance by an actress playing a mom: Essie Davis as Amelia in The Babadook.
Her performance was as great and memorable as Jack Nicholson in The Shining, imo.
i was waiting for rosemary woodhouse to show up in this video because rosemarys baby is one of my favorites and i love her as a character. shes a great mom and personally i would have her join my mom group
Whoa yeah Rosemary top teir
I was waiting for Rosemary Woodhouse and Chris MacNeil
You should totally do a father version of this video!
I love that you invited The Mother from Barbarian to the mom group. Just make sure mom group remains chill and positive and quiet, and we don't have to worry lmao.
I actually want to write an essay on Barbarian and how it subverts the ableist tropes of the genre, with how The Mother is written and portrayed.
I am a special education teacher and also a huge horror buff, and sometimes it becomes difficult for me to watch a lot of horror when the killer is intellectually disabled because students like mine are so often misunderstood and misrepresented.
Barbarian, while it initially utilizes this trope, actually attempts to totally subvert it by portraying The Mother as a kind character deep down. She absolutely means zero harm to Tess and goes out of her way to protect her (or at least in her mind). All The Mother has ever known is pain, cruelty, and abuse, and the only moments of comfort she ever had were in that mom video tape. It was also the only socialization she ever had, so it's all she wants and knows.
Her character is the true victim of the film, and I really admire that Zach Cregger took that "big scary r-word" trope that our favorite genre is rife with, and turned it on its head to tell a heartbreaking story about abuse, one that's incredibly empathetic toward its "monster."
Here's a few more!
Erica Sayers (Black Swan)
Beverly Sutphin (Serial Mom)
Sarah Connor (Terminator 2)
Karen Barclay (Child's Play)
pamela was in the video😊
Girl lol barbarian mother made me LOL but you’re so right. Gotta add that flavor to the friend group lol
omg I love the lil slip when you called Judy Greer's character "Fern" instead of "Karen" when talking about Laurie Strode's daughter. Love a good Jawbreaker reference!
haha my daughter’s name is Fern because of that movie 😬
Wendy from The Shining is the definition of nice, but boring to me. All she did was scream and cry, gosh
Your tier list videos are always so fun, ranking horror movie moms feels mildly chaotic and I'm so here for it 😂
I watched Mother when I was pregnant and I think that's the reason I have postpartum anxiety now😂
Cole Sear and Danny Torrace would be one hell of a playdate.
eta: Dee Wallace with Cujo and Critters
I would love to see cps try to take down the Beldam.
THE MOTHER FROM BARBARIAN HAS BEEN VINDICATED! We love her!
I was rooting for her by the end of the movie they did her so dirty! 😂
5:25 Sarah: "The mom in 'US'... OK, I'm not going to spoil the movie..."
Also Sarah: accidentally spoils the whole plot by calling the mom "Red" instead of Adelaide 😅
LMAO I’m sorry at least there was a lil warning 😅
One of my favorite horror mothers was Laurie Strode's adoptive mother in the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween. It was shown that she treated Laurie as her real daughter instead of adopted one. Plus, she was played by Dee Wallace and I can never hate anyone that is played by Dee Wallace.
Grace from the Others def deserves calling CPS.
I'd include Sarah from The Descent. Her losing her child is a big part of her character. Same with Tuffy from Feast which also loses her child. Oh and definitely Ripley who you definitely had a mother child connection to Newt.
Go slay gurl, I already know this vid is gonna be fire
Mom groups really intimidate me (super introverted and it’s hard to find other moms that like horror and video games) but this is one I’d definitely join!
Horror+videogames... why couldn't my mom be like you!🙉
So true
One of my favourite horror movie mothers you missed- Diane from Poltergeist
I'm shocked you didn't include Diane Sherman (Sarah Paulson) from Run! She definitely fits in either Calling CPS or Stay Away From Me.
When I saw “the mother” from barbarian I was immediately like “MOM GROUP!!!”
Love your list.!
Where would you rank Mia farrows character in Rosemary's baby or Ellen Burstyns , in the exorcist?
Two of my faves .❤
the most entertaining video i've seen in a while I loved every second
Thank you for Wendy Torrance, people find her annoying, and I get it but is just a character, she is a good mom and did what she could to get both free and out of the hotel.
i absolutely love how considerate you are with each ranking hahaha it feels like you have each mom in front of you and have to tell them your explanation and ranking to their face
My sister was taken to see Mother while she was 8 months pregnant! That was 5 years ago and she's still mad about it.
It makes me happy you seem more upbeat and less stressed in this video. Hope things are going well for you 💕💕
Your list was spot on. And Thank you for giving Wendy Torrance love! Everybody I know rags on her, but she is a great mom, even if a little neurotic (but in a lovable way). This actually required more time, thought and reflection than I first realized. Here's my list:
Psycho 1960 Mrs. Bates (Tier 4)
Exorcist 1973 Chris McNeil (Tier 1)
Poltergeist 1982 Diane Freeling (Tier 1)
Cujo 1983 De Wallace (Tier 1)
Christine 1983 Arnie’s mom (Tier 2)
Sleepaway Camp 1984 Aunt Martha (Tier 4)
Child’s Play 1988 Mrs. Barclay (Tier 1)
Omen 2006 Julia Styles (Tier 1)
Halloween 2007 Sherri Moon Zombie (Tier 3)
Funny Games 2007 Naomi Watts (Tier 1)
Last House on the Left 2009 Monica Potter (Tier 1)
Conjuring 2013 Lily Taylor (Tier 2)
Orphan First Kill 2022 Julia Styles (Tier 1)
Halloween Ends 2022 Corey’s mom (Tier 3)
Knock at the Cabin 2023 Adrian (Tier 1)
The mother is mothering 💅🏼
Sarah, have you seen Troll Hunter/Trolljegeren? It's absolutely one of my favourite movies ever, documentary style. I think you'd love it
Would be curious to see a Dad list for horror? Do they have equally standout roles as moms? 🤷
The one that comes to mind for me is the dad in A Quiet Place. He was just as awesome as his wife
They are usually far worse tho like it would have to be changed cause the bottom tear would be filled
What about the mother in "the orphanage." I feel so bad for her. 🥺
i was thinking of her as well! same
I’m obsessed with your tier ranking videos!
i love your tiers! they're so iconic and fun to watch
Idk why but I feel like this is the funniest video I’ve seen in a long time. Sarah, your sense of humor is top tier!
The mom from Ginger Snaps. She will literally do anything for her kids. I feel that. I don’t have a mom group either, let’s be friends!
Thank you Sarah, for another awesome Tier List! As always well done!
Omg as a mother as well this is now my favorite video youve posted. I cackled thinking about the barbarian mother in a mom group 😂 please do a part 2
I’m so happy The Mother from Barbarian made top tier because I loved her so much! Poor gal deserved better 💔
And Wendy! Talk about another poor gal who deserved better! She was always one of my favorites because she reacted to everything the way I probably would. She’s not fearless and obviously terrified and struggling to keep it together to save her kiddo- I’d be a crying, screaming mess too, let’s just be honest here. Wendy wins the badass award for fighting through it all to protect Danny
This video made me so happy, so thank you for making it! I’d love to see one for the horror movie dads at some point too
So glad you’re back! Missed these videos ❤
Love the tier list videos!
Coraline is a horror movie!!! 🙌🏻 yes! I laughed because when you said “look at her in the eyes” I totally wasn’t and didn’t want to look 😂
I'm going to have to go with Amelia from Babadook. Holy, that movie has such a good depiction of PPD and trauma. I recently became a single mother to a threenager. Its so hard.
I love Shelly Duvall she'd def be a mommy bestie.
This is easily one of the FUNNIEST videos you've ever done (although nothing will ever top the review of Moonfall!) Love that you included Coraline as a horror movie (absolutely!)
This is a really good video! So entertaining. I love your tier lists so much. Keep up the amazing work
not exactly horror movies but Tilda in a) We need to talk about Kevin, b) the deep end and c) Suspiria
Nancy's mom from Nightmare on Elm Street, and Rosemary from Rosemary's Baby...Personally would love a ranking of classic horror mom. Would also love a ranking of "b" or campy horror movies!
thank you for putting their names on their pictures! i get annoyed with some character tier lists when i don't know every character and get confused when there's no names.
Genuinely one of the funniest concepts for a tier list that I've ever seen
I've gotten two minutes into the video and would like to formally invite you to my mom group (it's just me with a 1 1/2 year old and pregnant with my second) and I guess I could invite my friend who's pregnant but she doesn't like horror movies 🤣
This was fun!
that nancy loomis ranking & opinion cut deep😭 i just shed a tear! Just kidding but i loved nancy & her role / character & i enjoyed the actress’s performance!
The two horror Moms I commented on your IG post were Diane Freeling- Poltergeist and Lucy- The Lost Boys! Would love to know where they'd fit here for you. Also what about Norma Bates...
Absolutely loved this idea for one of your ranking lists. So much fun!!
YESSS
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA FOR A LIST
this is both hilarious and so real might be my fave tier list ngl
Re; the woman in Quiet Place, I was just thinking how selfish and irresponsible it is to get pregnant during a global apocalypse where your children could die at any moment. I am deducting points from her just for that.
Yeah I remember really loving the first one when it came out but they don't age well in my opinion.
Idk about hanging out with Red honestly, she’s kinda scary once you know why.
I do love Rachel. The ring 1/2 (remake) being my favorite horror movies, it was the only horror movies I was afraid of when I started watching horror movies at a very young age and I still can barely take a look on Samara now that i'm 26, but I LOVE watching it with my friends who never saw them. I know nowadays people think it's crap and not creepy but to me it's really enjoyable. Her going with samara to save her own kid was really brave as she could get stuck in there and never see her son anymore, but he was more important than her own life. Maybe she wasn't the best mom overall but she proved her love. I'm not a mom but I guess this is how every mother should be 💕
This list video is so fun!! And I can get behind these choices 😊
This tier list was so much fun!
This is such a fun idea, great video😊
bummed Li Ronan from Incantation wasn’t on here! she was such an interesting character
I have to say Poltergeist mom she went through some crazy stuff in movie and outside of movie
Love all your tier videos
Your videos are always amazing love them
Never stop the tier lists I love them so much they literally are my therapy, if you run out of ideas tier list your favourite animals like I’m not even kidding 😂
Keep Margret away from me for for her own good 😅
I have needed a new PBH ranking!!
Listen Toni Collette as Annie in “Hereditary” is LEGENDARY! She deserved Best Actress at the Oscars. Her performance is just immortal it’s up there with Linda Blair and Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. She put everything into that role😢.
She should have been nominated. Oscar has no love for horror.
@@A_CZcams_Commenter man she gave the performance of the decade.
I'm so ready for this !!!!!!!
Hey! Loved this video! It would be fun to see you do a ranking video on siblings in horror…..or would that be dumb? 😊 Or tier rank friends. I like that you did something more character based. Oh also…. Have you done a latest top favorite movies of all time? With all the movies that have come out in the last year I would love to see an update!
Probably not that well known but I loved the mom in “Housebound” her lines were so funny
Thanks for the post love the rateing for the horror moms 😊😊
I just wanna say I love these tier lists! Also when I saw your post on Instagram about moms i was thought you should make this video. Also can you make a video on movies you used to love or like but can’t watch after having a baby?
Pamela and Margaret are my go to murder mommies.
Putting Mama in nice but boring is wild 😂😂 I would add Marge Thompson from Nightmare on Elm St. She did a lot to protect Nancy but definitely not enough. Plus the alcohol. Would deff put her in Call CPS.
This is a 10/10 tier list!!! I definitely agree with every tier lol! With the new Insidious movie coming out, where do you think you’d put the main mom and the husbands mom on the list? :0
It's been a while. Good to see u again.👍
I've been in a few mum's groups, and it takes a while to get to know everyone, and figure out who you'd actually *want* to be in a mum's group with. So, I'm imagining a scenario in which *all* of these mum's start out in a mum's group together, and gradually begin to learn about each other. TBH, I don't think there'd actually be much more than the drama you'd get in a non horror movie mum's group. They can go pretty off the rails.
love this idea!! would love to see a fathers ranking too 🥰
Can't wait to watch this one!!
wendy with her cigarette I love her
Honestly would love a “Real Housewives of” spin off with that mom friend group (even if they’re not all wives lol) 🤣
chris macneil is arguably one of my fave moms in horror, and im kind of disappointed shes not on the list :') i also kinda want to include millie's mom from freaky in the 'bad' mom list, with the knowledge that shes grieving her husband and going through her own shit. however, the fact that she didn't notice that anything was wrong with her daughter frustrates me lol
