- Complete review of the Motolug Motorcycle Trailer SE in the United States. I show the step by step process to assemble the trailer and talk about the many benefits of the trailer. Excellent product for those who like simplicity, ease of assembly, and the ability to easily disassemble and store the trailer.

From the looks of it, this man drove his car and bike to some commercial parking lot, unloaded and disassembled everything, and then reassembled the trailer and reloaded the bike in order to make this review. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this review was filmed mid-roadtrip. That right there is commitment, but also a testament to how easy this trailer is to manage. A+ content.
The company should be PAYING YOU for referrals from this excellent video, you did a great job (I'm probably going to order one). :)
Agree with Robert Tate: this is a very nicely done, clear and concise presentation without unnecessary bull and/or wasteful 'filler'. The sound level is a bit problematic, but it's a small matter balanced against the overall authority and illustrative nature of the video. Wish more CZcams presentations were this good. It would have been helpful to cite a few of the basic trailer specs (such as GVWR, etc.) so that the trailer's rated capacities are known. Otherwise, very slick and timely.
Your instructional video was incredibly thorough and informative. Looks like a GREAT product too. Thank you so much. PS: I have a "Trailer in a Bag." It has served me well, but there are aspects of the Motolug that I like better.
Clear and precise, thanks for the great video!
I use the little Harbor Freight trailer with a wood plank. I can disconnect the trailer with the wr250 on the trailer and move it around with ease. The plywood deck I put on it holds my extra gas cans. This one looks so refined that even you're grandmother could use it.
I think this is a pretty neat trailer. Could be stored on a shelf when you're not using it. Don't forget to add a safety chain to be DOT compliant. It's the first thing that Patrol officers look at your trailer to make sure it's hooked up properly. Also, if I buy this trailer, I will add plugs at the rear tail lights so that I can load the bike before I install the assemblies. That way I don't have to step over them.
Smart, Informative, To the point, No bull-shit, understandable, clear...... Great Video. Thank you.
+Robert Tate You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
Robert Tate I agree. This is a high quality video. Amazing job Brett Thank you!
Thanks for a detailed video man. Very helpful
Seriously wanting one after your video. Thanks
you left your boomerang. Great trailer.
Awesome ! TY I only have one bike! Similar to yours and see this as a more compact option as oppose to a bigger trailer (and needing to put it somewhere when it’s not being used ) that seem to be what normally available!
Motolug would recommend the 10" wheels if you tow ball height exceeds 16.5" from the ground to the centre of the ball. If you have 8" wheels on a higher tow ball, when you come to tilt the trailer towards the ground you may find that there is a large gap between the floor and the rear of the trailer (same if you have the 10" on a low tow ball). The benefit of the 10" wheel is that over the same distance travelled there will be less rotation reducing wear and tear on both tyres and bearings when compared to the 8" (but this is minimal).
Great job, dude, on what appears to be exactly the trailer I'm looking for. Thanks very much, well done.
Damn thats so cool. I had to get rid of my truck and now i only own a car. Ive been needing something like this.
I like to put my LHS lights on last, saves trying to step over it when loading.
No safety chains?
very informate, no bs. thank you
Considering one of these. I believe this is the version with the slightly bigger wheels. For a normal car the smaller wheels are recommanded so that the back touches the ground when loading and is sits more straight aswell.
Thanks for the demonstration. I may need something like this in the future.
Simple and informative. Great video thx. This video must’ve gotten plenty buyers. It got me. Im gonna google this Particular one to buy
why not using crane lifting straps (cargo slings ,round slings) ,these hooks damage,s painting and metal on the bike
8:44 to 8:48...right..so how do you keep the bike UPRIGHT without either an extra pair of hands to hold it while you secured it down with straps or since there is no side bar plate in which to lower the kickstand onto?
Great reviewer!
Awesome video, very straight forward! The only the a little sketchy is the bike load. I guess you just have to be careful. 2nd or 3rd gear would be good probably. Love Utah, great place to ride. Thanks again for this very informative vid and the extras you threw in.
As far as loading with such a low approach angle I would have just pushed the bike, (probably very easy finding a slight downhill to load and unload it making it even easier than a perfect flat surface) I think would reduce any accidental clutch engagement and accident.
very well done... thank you...
Good video,,
Obviously you drove the bike onto the trailer, over the raised wheel chock to locate bike into wheel holder.
I imagine getting a big bike off not too easy getting over the raised wheel chock.
That’s pretty nifty 👍👍 maybe install the left side light assembly after loading the bike👌🏼
Perfect.. just what I'm looking for..
same here
Great vid! Thanks!
Was it difficult to get a registration and license plate for it?
what average speed did you maintain on your 2500 mile trip?
Nice trailer! You might won't to leave the light assy off the kick stand side of the bike while your loading it though. It would be easier than stepping over it and wouldn't have to worry about getting tangled up in it if anything went wrong while loading the bike.
great, the only thing i think it needs is a bit of suspension as it can be very rigid. thanks
What’s the maximum weight capacity? I have 3 motorcycles and a scooter. One of my bikes is a full dresser and weighs close to 960 lbs. would this handle a bike that size? My two other bikes are 515 lbs and 480 lbs. my scooter is 410 lbs.
good job on the video
I am likely going to purchase this trailer if it can arrive in 5 weeks or less. How long was the shipping?
How does it handle on a rough road and high wind
very well made and informative video but idk if I want to be loading my 825 lbs. Harley on that trailer, its nice if you're 6 foot tall and the bike weighs 400 lbs. but what about for people like me that are only 5'3" and the bike is over 800 lbs.?
I would dissamble brake/turn signals before loading a heavier MC. Then reassemble lights. It appears awkward to step over those light stems when loading. Just sayin', not bad.
Yep. In fact, Motolug themselves suggest this and since its held by two pins its very easy to do.
Me too......
Nice video - But I would not trust one tie down per side - do another from the handlebar to the trailer each side just in case.
Great job, very instructive. One thing: I would like to have seen how the front wheel is released by the front wheel clamp when unloading the bike.
I've tried contacting the company to ship over to USA, they won't respond. Anyplace I can get it in the USA ?
Nice review. Did you buy it directly from UK? Is it still holding strong?
cbr500r ; one of my favorite bikes
I like this idea because I can take it apart and put it in the suv while i'm out riding my bike in the wood . You can also use it to load up your bike and take it to the garage with you to get your truck worked on for a few days and put the trailer in the back of the truck out of the way and not get stolen from the shop .
@Brett Hoffmann, have you ever experienced any swerve due to higher center of gravity? Also, have you used the trailer on uneven roads with pot holes etc ?
No, I’ve never had any swerving issues. I used it once on an uneven road where the highway was being replaced and one lane was higher than the other. Everything worked fine.
have you ever replaced the trailer tires are they hard to find here in the states? Thanks
Nice thank you
very nice
Did you purchase another 4 way connector with wiring harness, or did you crimp/solder? I really want this trailer but I’m stuck on the wiring aspect for the US
I took the entire electrical system that came with the trailer off and replaced it with a complete system bought in the US.
Well done.
Nice but I keep noticing with all of these videos endorsing trailers ,they are all loading sport bikes. My bikes weigh 650 lbs dry weight
You should be fine. The load limit for the trailer is upwards of 770 lbs
Good video presentation . No bullshit
I think you should put a referral link in the video notes and collect commission. Great vid.
How did you handle switching the lighting system for the United States? What was your process?
Basically I took off the original light fixtures, installed the new ones (had to drill a couple holes for the bolts and to get wiring through the lighting plates), and then used the cabling which came with the trailer to make all the electrical connections between the lights and the 4-flat connection to my car. Simple electrical work with some wire nuts and electrical tape.
Hi, can you tell me what brand name straps are those that you are using? Thanks!
+Naot tsaab I believe they are Husky brand.
Brett, Where did you get the 7 pin round to 4 pin adapter? I just assembled mine and see that I need an adapter. Thanks.
I wasn’t able to find the adapter you’re referring to. I ended up removing the lighting system that came with the trailer, purchased a standard trailer light kit from Walmart for around $20, and then installed it.
Thanks.
you highly mecromend i check it out?
Old video but this is perfect for me to transport my little ninja 400 with my car.
That's a great idea. How would I load a Harley Davidson Road King?
Yes, nice idea but was thinking how I was going to load my Harley. Its 600 lbs . I'm small and its heavy as hell😥
Hey Brett, I noticed that you did not use that black plastic license plate bracket that came with the light kit.. Now that I have my plate, I think that black plastic might be a little flimsy, blowing when the wind hits it..
I changed with a aluminium plate.
Did you buy this direct from motolug or a reseller? Did you have to pay VAT or any import duties?
I just bought direct from Motolug. No, I didn't pay any VAT or import duties.
I have one of these. I do not need the additional ramp extender you made.
Offer the bike up to the ramp and the trailer will dip sufficiently to run the bike up.
They are a excellently engineered and fabricated trailer. They do 3 different weight carrying capacity's AND a 2 bike conversion kit.
MOTOLUG UK
This seems ideal. What's the longest wheelbase that this could accommodate? I have a Harley that I would like to take with me on a trip.
I think it’s 1650mm.
That's a little under 5 feet 5 inches btw
What is the maximum weight for this trailer?
you still have to register it? thought it was small enough to avoid
+MrSweeper In NJ at the time, yes. I had to register it to get plates.
Curious if he had any high speed issues (bouncing, unstable) with bike on trailer?
Not one bit. Had it up to 90 in Wyoming racing Buffalo
Good day,
The website offers a 10" wheel kit as upgrade, is this recommended or the stock wheels will do just fine? What's the 10" wheel kit for?
You’d probably be good with either one, unless you’re doing a lot of cross country hauling. The 10” would probably be more suited for that.
@@melonking1 tnx. Have a good one
Just ordered my 50mm Ball and riser. That little .8 difference between the 2" ball and the 50mm ball, is enough to stop the whole thing from locking down.
Wow. You should have no problem then with the 50mm ball. Should fit like milk n' cookies.
Now I'm just concentrating on proving that I had all needed documents submitted for registration. The second you mention that it came from overseas, the MVC turns you around, thinking that you don't have the needed paperwork and duties paid. So the next time I go down there, I have to find someone to actually listen to me.. I tried to explain that I physically have the trailer at home, meaning that I already had the needed paperwork done, and paid needed taxes and customs already. (Since they would not release the trailer without that being done).
+VideoBoat2008 what state are you in?
Same place you moved from.. Actually, not that far from your starting point.. :-)
Dood. I had to send more forms to Trenton today. Still trying to get this thing registered. What a PITA.
Hi again Bret its been a few years, I hope all is good with you and your family. I'm writing you to ask a question about your video. Your creation of this video is what helped me make a decision to purchase the Motolug trailer. I too was looking for a trailer that was assembled with only one person, no tools, and can be loaded and unloaded by a single person. Also, because it breaks down, it made storage, in a bedroom closet possible. Because of downsizing and job loss, I may have to pack up and move, I'm now looking to sell my bike, trailer and others items I've purchased. Out of all the videos I've seen, your's was the most informative and it helped me purchase an, awesome trailer I've really only used it twice, to attend a motorcycle rally in PA It held up really well with my larger 1991 Yamaha V-MAX1200. My bike weighs about 636 lbs wet, and the trailer worked flawlessly. Having to wait for DMV to finalize everything, being that it was purchased overseas, it was a bit nerve-racking getting so close to the date of the Rally, but it worked out fine.. At least,, anyone purchasing it now, won't have too deal with the shipping and other stuff we had too :-) . I was wondering, if it would be OK to ad your video link as an add-on. to any ad that I might post for the sale of my bike and trailer. There wouldn't be any action needed on your part, and after the sale, (whenever that happens) I would look to send you a little monetary thank you, just for leaving that video up and running. I don't know if your sill have my email address, If not, you can reply to this post and we can work out a communication method, for the transfer of funds. Thanks again for all your help.. Take care bud.
Yes, you can link to the video for your advertising. Good luck!
@@melonking1 Awesome.. You will be stated as the driving force as to why I made the derision to purchase that trailer. I'll send you the link once i'm ready to list the items.. Thanks again.. Take care.
Where or what website was the motorcycle trailer purchased? Would that be strong enough for my big v-twin cruiser, it weighs about 900lbs.
I purchased directly from motolug. I think the capacity for the trailer in the video is 800 lbs…motolug might have bigger trailers to fit your bike. I’d reach out to them.
I see your NJ plate... how difficult was it to get titled-registered?
+Maier Yancov It was a challenge, to say the least. A lot of planning involved and extra work. I was able to get a "non-titled" trailer and still have a registration.
11:11 hey come back, you have left some stuff behind
Nice video BTW
Hi! Very nice trailer! It’s showing different modifications ( HE, SE, ,,,, which is yours?
SE
11:10 "Dude, come back! You forgot your drink bottle!" ;)
great video review. one suggestion though. purchase some soft straps to put on your bike so the metal hooks wont scratch up the paint.
Right ......
How do you like this trailer after using it a while and did you have it shipped from UK?
John Snyder it’s a great trailer and yes I did have it shipped from the U.K. I’d like to sell it now
@@melonking1 I might be interested. What's the best way to reach you?
Hi, were to buy and how much it will be? Thanks
Maybe leave the left side tail light assy till last for ease of loading the bike....
Is this Trailer need to be register
Where can I get this trailer? Been looking for a bike trailer . Much appreciated
I was just imagining the whole thing going up in flames as he drove off. Lol...jk, actually looks like a great setup. Not sure what part of the bike you’d strap to tho if you don’t have passenger pegs. Probably only option would be a canyon chaser on the bars.
Hi do you still have this trailer? How can I buy this?
Can you purchased this in the United Kingdom without
tail lights
I am not sure. You would have to email MotoLug and inquire with them.
Hey man 4 year later you still have it? How is it holding up?
Looking to purchase one to transport my 2006 Honda CBR600RR
It’s been great. I’ve had it sit in my closet for the past few years, and want to sell it. Email me if you’d like more info.
@@melonking1 how can I contact you?
excellent video, but for the first part an hardly hear. GOOD JOB SIR.
Hi :-) Thanks for the video. How do you get the bike off the trailer?
+Dave Brown All I do is tilt the trailer up, and roll the bike off. It's really that easy.
but the wheel chock ?
+Dave Brown The wheel chock pivots on a pin so it "accepts" the front wheel when loading and "releases" the front wheel when unloading. Towards the end of the video you can see me load the bike and the wheel chick pivot. The opposite goes for unloading.
You can't, have to leave it there forever...
what are those little cast seat supports rated at ?
Don’t know. Probably not much since they’re plastic
Brett, if this trailer is still for sale, I'm in NJ and can come get it.
I sold it a few months back all the way on the west coast.
man looks awesome but out of my budget maybe in the future
Will it be able to work with my Honda VTX 1300c being it’s bigger than yours???
I’m not sure. It depends on how heavy your bike is. I don’t remember the max weight the trailer could take but you can find that out from motolug
Brett, are you still using this trailer? Have you had any issues with it? My bike is 550 lbs. and I'm planning a cross-the-USA trip. I'm wondering if the wheels will hold up at interstate speeds for long periods. Thanks.
No, I’m not using it anymore and am wanting to sell it. 550 lbs would do just fine with this trailer. I didn’t have any issues with interstate speed or duration, I was very impressed with how the trailer handles. Utah speed limit on the interstate is 80 mph and it had it up to that speed for 6+ hours with no problems.
@@melonking1 Thanks. We'd be interested in buying it. Can we discuss further outside of this youtube comments section?
@@melonking1 have you sold this trailer Brett? I am interested.
Steve Lee Not yet Steve, it is still for sale.
@@melonking1 Good morning - How do i get in touch with you please?
Hi Brett.. Hope all is well.. Can you tell me if you were able to get your registration and plate dealing with your local MVC office, or did you have to submit paperwork for a foreign title to Trenton NJ? Also, If you did have to submit it to Trenton, how long did it take to get everything done? I've called Trenton 3 times and they have my paperwork, but I'm not seeing any progress on this.. I'm getting close to the time when I'll need my trailer. Any advice would be great.. Thanks again man..
+VideoBoat2008 I was able to do everything from my local MVC office. My suggestion would be to look at njmvc's website on different ways to register the trailer and determine which way is best for you.
Thanks Brett.. I've checked that site multiple times. Since I've been trying to do this the regular way (for over 2 months now), and not getting anywhere, I'm now thinking about going to another MVC and having it registered as kit.. Since legally, it is just that, A Kit.
Hi Brad. Still trying to get a plate. I really think the Motor Vehicle Commission in Lodi NJ, directed me down a path that they never should have. I just came back from getting even more paperwork completed from Customs and Boarder Protection (CPB) agency.. The CBP officer and his manager, thought it was funny and asked why was I there. They said that if the trailer was ALREADY DELIVERED to me via UPS (or any other US Carrier that collects import taxes for the CBP agency), I should not have had to anything more than get a simple registration completed. CBP stamped my papers for me to sent to back to Trenton anyway. Also, they said that all the paperwork Trenton asked me to have stamped, is for Motorized Vehicles,, Not Utility trailers. I believe that workers in Lodi NJ, are not trained properly to work with purchased made overseas. Not to mention, Motolug sells overseas all the time. If everyone has to go through my nightmare, business from Motolug.com to the USA would be abandoned. Brad, can you tell me.. (I don"t need to know any actual numbers), If the VIN on your trailer matches the one on the registration card, or did MVC generate a new one for you? Thanks man..
+VideoBoat2008 sorry to hear you're going through all this trouble. Maybe try registering the trailer with another agency, as you suggested. You might be able to even do it online and have the plates mailed to you.
Hey Brett, did you get a chance to see if your Registration card matches your Trailer's VIN#?? Sorry for the name mistake on my previous post.. Not being able to sleep lately makes your eyes go buggy at 5AM :-)
where can i buy this in USA??
I think if you got the 8-inch wheels instead of the 10-inch ones, you would not have a gap from ramp to ground when you lower the trailer. See the FAQ on MotoLug's website.
5 years later..... where did you purchase the trailer from? The motolug site doesn’t seem to have an option for adding to cart.
I bought it from motolug 5 years ago. Maybe they don’t sell to the US anymore.
URL: motolug.com/ From here, do not click Add to Basket right away but click on the product first, then click Add to Basket. After that, check your basket.
I don't know, it doesn't look very sturdy to me. What is the speed rating on the trailer?
Dunno, but it was solid as a rock at 80+ mph
The maximum legal speed limit for any open Motorcycle trailer in the United States is 65mph.
Since its made in England are the tires / size available in the US?
I am not sure, it was definitely a European tire though. Didn’t look like anything here in the US.
