In the last few years, especially as new updates have come to the game, Matpat's ideas on the lore of the world have been revised a few times. I think it would be really great if we could see a current summary of his ideas about the full story of the Minecraft world

Someone should make a mod that makes this theory-series (theries, if you will) feel even more obvious. Maybe journals in structures that tell you about the old builders, or maybe crafting recipes that are based off of the things we learn here.

I like the idea of Illagers not actually being evil but just trying to bring back the ancient builders because they miss them

What if instead of using the different portals to try and escape the dangers of the over world, the ancient builders were trying to cling to the final words of the hosts. “There are endless worlds out there.” The ancient builders started to search for them after praying and hoping to them didn’t work. They decided to take things into their own hands

The theory that lapis contains souls which it uses to enchant is further backed up by the fact that you need experience points (gained by killing mobs) to use the enchantment table ALONG WITH lapis
lapis also gives you a decent amount of exp when you mine it so you might be on to something
Probably experience points are substitute to souls or experience orbs are essentially the soul itself, which explains why excavated lapis ores work to use despite not mainly exposed to
Even player soul doesnt drop other soul(every player always drop 7 exp and even lv 130 exp still drop 7)
There are other ways of getting XP than killing mobs. Some of the most effective XP farms are just from smelting mass quantities of cactus and then removing an item to get dozens of levels at once.

Another explanation for why hostile mobs turned on the player is because they hate you (as they recognise you as one of the ancient builders) and are angry that you destroyed their world (we know from their willingness to fight the piglins that they are very protective of their world) so want to kill you before you extract too many resources and enable the world to go back to how it was (there's a reason not all mobs attack villagers imo as they have no reason to be angry at them compared to you)

@@fizzy69o.0 on the contrary, that is the point. all of matpat's theories on minecraft are basically self-consistent, not contradictory. a new, fully revised version would not only present the entire argument (making it less confusing) but would also fill in all the previous holes or mistakes. this channel's minecraft lore theory is grossly under appreciated and is every bit on par with pixar theory--if not even more well founded.
You know, in that first theory, it's also possible that the heroes didnt immediately become uncaring jerks once the story ended. Building on your other theories, instead of hunting whole species to extinction, it seams much more likely they started domesticating and providing a singular home for said animals, near their own homes, which would definitely be within sight of a very angry and powerful wither what's running around exterminating all life on the surface.

Based on the last theory, it seems likely that The Hosts just abandoned the world they once resided in. But I see it in a different way. A way that makes it seems like they were conducting an experiment. And what I mean is that they had abandoned countless worlds after their chosen heroes they summoned defeats the piglins.
After all, their new adventure could just be them doing something just a tad different in the world they go to. But with the result remaining the same no matter what.

ssems like they abondoned the world cause they realized that it's just another world like infinite others, some are broken some are peaceful and that its just how it was meant to be and it's pointless to try and save that world in particulare when there's worst, it's wouldn't change much after all

The lapis theory only gains more credibility once you consider enchanting. To enchant, you have to use two 'seemingly' unrelated things: lapis, which you find underground and in chests, and experience, which you primarily get from killing mobs. When you infuse the lapis with the experience gained from those dead mobs, you are able to invoke some remnant of the power that the ancient builders were given by the Hosts.
Unrelated, but I find it hilarious that the gods are called Hosts, like server hosts. Made me smile :)

12:52 Fun little fact: you can also find prismarine stuff (both in Sea Lanterns as well as standard blocks) in some of the Underwater Ruins, which further connects them to the Monuments. Buried Treasure can also contain Prismarine Crystals, which connects them (and, by proxy, the Underwater Ruins and Shipwrecks, since those are where you find their maps) as well.
Why is no one talking about the Orb or Dominance? I think it's also related to the Minecraft lore.
MatPat is the only person who can take a simple game and complicate it beyond our understanding

Thought it would also be worth mentioning that the Well of Fate also has the same rune that appears in the entrance of Ocean Monuments, confirming it even more that they are connected.

The ancient builders were trying to recreate themselves (for some reason) and that's villagers. But then they made one more successful attempt that could actually build like them, and that's Steve.
Look at the eyes, the allay shares many of Steve's feature, but Steve looks more like a midday between villagers and the allay

Video idea: This idea is about the lore surrounding the connection between Dark Dome games. Some of them are connected and you find it out once you've finished the connected games.
Minecraft lore reminds me of an apocalypse everything looks and seems so bright in games like legends and dungeons compared to vanilla minecraft it just looks so much more dull and feels like your alone no cities only small towns that can go extinct very quickly if you don’t help protect it

The ancient cities have steve-colored wool blocks, too. I saw a patch myself. It looked nearly identical to the piles in the mansions. I'll leave that to you, MatPat.
Mat, something you should know is that in the new 1.20 Trail Ruins, the music disc "Relic" has the same theme as the Well of Fate and other leitmotifs in MCL, and one of the Trail Ruin's armor trims is called "Host." I think the Trail Ruins were the villages you see in MCL!
Yknow, this might also tell us who the two voices talking in the end portal are. They could be two hosts talking about the player they summoned into the world that was destroyed by the ancient builders.
And Steve or PC, player character, are resurrected to right the wrongs of the past
The voices in the Credits for Minecraft are definitely strange, but for some reason get me thinking of the Minecraft Legends hosts. Though there are 3 of them and only 2 voices, I'm certain he'll find a way to connect them.

This also ties in with the theory of the builders worshipping the warden at first- maybe they thought it was one of the Hosts coming to save them from the Wither
What if the warden is the stone host but he has been corrupted by sculk?

A few things to think about:
- The little cube atop the Well of Fate resembles a conduit, and both structures use power from prismarine blocks, so they are in some way connected. Maybe conduits are small, man-made versions of the Well?
- In the minecraft dungeons hidden depths DLC, there is a huge wall with murals on it that shows that guardians were created after a meteor struck the ocean and wiped out an ancient civilization. This means that guardians are not man-made after all, but rather come straight from the magic of the ocean monuments themselves. This is also backed up by the fact that guardians look very similar to a block of prismarine, which might mean they are prismarine blocks infused with some sort of powerful magic.
Something that confirms this theory even more is the fact that in treasure bastions there are magma cube spawners, showing they do, in fact have the power to create life and are actively experimenting with it.

In all honesty, it seems the “gods” in Minecraft, are the real bad guys. Instead of continuing to observe, and maybe help the ancient builders that they summoned, they just straight up leave, without having any thoughts that the aftermath of this war was gonna have fallout.
Not to mention that the end credits shows blue and green text, which could possibly be those gods, or maybe someone else?
Another thing to notice, is that in Minecraft legends, we don’t see enderman, but we see them in Minecraft dungeons, then vanilla Minecraft. This lines up perfectly, because this shows that MC Dungeons must be taking place after legends, and before vanilla Minecraft.
I think it's very likely that the blue and green text is 2 of the Hosts speaking to us.
I always enjoy lore that has gods as villains, especially "benevolent" gods, because despite having the power they lack the foresight of what their actions will cause.
I think that the text and the poem is supposed to resemble the hosts. My personal thoughts on it are the hosts left the Minecraft world and traveled to this one.
The last thing a failing world needs is someone from the outside trying to fix it. Even though the world died out a lot, we see lots of evidence of life continuing on. The only reason they came back is probably to deal with the invasion of other dimensional beings (the piglins).
To be honest, Dungeons probably takes place after Vanilla, the Ender Dragon is dead, and don't try to use the "But the Ender Dragon can be revived!" argument. We also see the Illagers being unified in Dungeons, unlike in Vanilla. There are also Endermen in this game, meaning it can't take place when the Ancient Builders were still alive (personally, I don't believe that Ancient Builders are Endermen). There are lots of other pieces of evidence too.

Here's a theory for you, What ARE the cave sounds? Why do all of the Minecraft cave noises or at least a majority of them, sound artificial. And I don't mean the fact that they are sounds in a game. I mean the fact that they sound like they're artificially made. One of them, is literally a train whistle or something very similar to it. How weird is that, what exactly are the cave noises? Could they be ghosts, a residual hunting in the caves and mineshafts of the world? Or are there something else, who knows?
We need a SCP-3008 video!!! SCP is a video game of multiple versions and on different platforms. It’s about being trapped in an infinite IKEA and attempting survival inside. There’s different games, CZcams channels and websites of information about SCP-3008 and I would absolutely LOVE a game about this!
This adds a new interesting layer to the ancient builders making portals.
They were either trying to track down the hosts themselves in other worlds or trying to escape the over world like previous theories.

I love these Minecraft theories and I have been thinking about some stuff especially regarding the sniffers who made those guys go extinct? Was it the same builders? But what would they be hunting the sniffers for? They don't drop anything unless something is sniffed out so that would be a waste of killing an animal

At the start of the game foresight tells the hero that the flames of creation are used to call upon your allies, this implies that you cannot use spawners to create mobs, but only to summon the ones that already exist. (This is also stated in the in-game description of the flames of creation)
Ik Matpat probably won't read this, but there's been something wild going on with CZcams shorts recently. I'm pretty sure it's an ARG involving a bunch of content creators like Johnny Razer, Royal Pear, Danno Draws, etc. It's really cool and I'm so confused and I'd love a video on it.

A supporting theory: as mentioned in theory no. 2 of this video, illagers are trying to summon creatures like the ancient builders. Ever seen those iron golemns in cages at outposts? Maybe they arent captured, maybe they are created.

Hear me out, instead of it being the prismarine temples the warden looks alot like the gods design. The ancient city's have burning portals. What if the warden is a god gone rouge or a discarded last call out to the gods that was left denied?

Minecraft Legends had never made sense to me until I watched game theory's video on it. Hope others found it helpful too.

This game is more like a legend BASED on ancient lore of minecraft, not litteraly the way the events went about
There is a vedic undertone to minecraft legends and i'm going to prove it:
villagers and all other mobs are at peace -> satya yuga
piglins attack the overlord, ancient builders arrive from another world to teach the villagers the ways of violence -> treta yuga starts
piglins are defeated, "peace" starts, and ancient builders milk the world dry -> dvarpa yuga
ancient builders die out, we, the players spawn -> kali yuga
as we milk the world dry, the gods call us to help their world with piglins, we disappear from our world, our world gets deleted and the cycle starts in another world, with us, becoming the new ancient builders
. Minecraft legends is both the future and the past. The only way to get to the spiritual world, escape the matrix, and stop the cycle, is to literally just turn of the game and do outside to touch grass. We are in this world because we wanted to be our own kings, and not be subjects of a higher power.
The idea that the illagers are the descendants of traumatized war veterans (and the religion they built) is great world building.

Matpat, what is the world border? Why is it there? Who built it? My theory is some ancient builders got left behind,(like they traveled in packs) Eventually they got the wither to somewhere far away, somehow the build a wall and hand themselves over to the wither, that wall is the world border.

@zo0m524 I mean lapis is pretty much the mineral of life, so you get some from mining it, both coal and redstone are composed of some carbon, which when animals/humans die we release carbon into air, water and soil when decomposing, so our soul/life could be trapped in some of the coal and redstone therefore giving us xp.

It's like Minecraft is about the after math of a destroyed civilization ,
And we as a player is watching the environment healing itself , animals once extinct are coming back , life depraved Netherlands growing trees , camels came back.
Maybe the updates are like how much healed is the world .
i think in the next minecraft theory you should maybe try to find a meaning of the pottery shard, see some shards are structure specific and cant be found any where else witch would be perfect to get an idea of the struggle of the ancient civilization,
i find it really cool that matpat basically predicted the ocean monument and villager mansion thing way back in his first minecraft theories... it's honestly kinda eerie how they hold up today and how it feels like legends is filling in the missing puzzle pieces and giving an explanation to everything....

Story Mode cannot be before Main Minecraft
Story Mode litteraly take place in a Server that was abbandoned for so Long that when the Admin Returned in S2 everyone didn't know/remembered what an Admin was

I Have a theory. maybe minecraft dungeons is after vanilla, and in the echoing void scene, the endermen say "back to the beginning." if the endermen are the ancient builders, maybe that means they want things to return to the way they were in Legends. This is what I have so far might come up with more to add.
I know that this would be difficult, and possibly confusing to follow, but I think it would be interesting to have a video that weaves all the individual theories together and create the complete story of Minecraft’s lore
